- The comics in order are, Children of the Atom, New Warriors, Star Wars High Republic and Gotham High. This is going to be the last negative comic book video I post for a while. I'm going to focus on the good things in life. (Final Fantasy VII Remake.) I am severely disappointed in a lot of comic book writers. I honestly have no strength left to react to the trash content they are continuously putting out there. I could be completely wrong and the series could all be fantastic but I feel like each comic book writer has completely missed the point. I feel like they are upsetting a lot of long time readers just to try and put their point across. The comic book industry is suffering and I honestly can understand why if this is the path they want to take.

"this character has a tick tock. This character inherited a backpack. This character is nonbinary" You've just told me absolutely nothing about these characters. What do they want? Why do they want it? What do they fear? What are their obstacles? What obstacles are self inflicted and why? Why do they want to be heroes? Who are they really? That was my take. This is all going to be dated as hell in 5 years. This is just pushing buttons that might speak to certain young people who may or may not care about comic books. It’s a desperate, scattershot attempt to generate revenue for the here and now with no regard to establishing something long-term.
Snowflake could have easily been a reference to her power, but no it has to be a stupid internet term.
This is literally in the video, they don't care if it will get dated. Also, everything is dated and most of comics are dependent of their context, althought people fail to understand it.

The fact that they saw Bruce Wayne, a guy who's filthy rich but has severe trauma after the murder of his parents and has lived inside his manor with no parental figure further than his butler for his whole life, that's been completely oriented towards enlargening his business and his idealistic view of justice, and said "yep, this guy fits as the cool guy in a public high school rom-com"
To be fair, a huge part of his early image was a fake "irresponsible playboy philanthropist" so it kind of fits
@@frankfranklin7002 That was after he started being Batman to cover up his identity. Practically until he was an adult he spent his life depressed in Wayne Manor
Here's something that always remained in my mind since high school. Whenever me and my friends (female, black, hispanic or w/e) would talk about comic books we never talked about race, sex, ideology.....we talked about the CHARACTERS or the STORY. No one was concerned about the character's gender or nationality. We all bonded over what we thought was cool about the character or the fight scenes in the comics or a surprising revelation or w/e. And talking about this stuff made us all great friends and made for great debates about which characters were the coolest. Who had the coolest super powers. Who had a cool look or cool suit. Idk why ppl are so obsessed with identity politics. All you need is great characters & great stories. None of that other shit matters. Anyway thats my take.
agreed, i'm a huge comic book fan and i'm never interested in this political woke crap, i do love representation and i do love diversity but not when its forced and shoved down our throats. my favorite example of what a correct written person of color character should be written like is wanda maximoff because she was romani and it was important to her identity as much as her character as well being tied down with a mutant as well because she faced discrimination for being BOTH. thats relatable, but this woke tiktok crap??? a characters pronouns, race, gender identity whatever is not what makes them relatable or good. i'm just glad there are still good marvel and dc comic book writers who still care about the story such as the 2021 moon knight run that was good, it had diversity but it wasn't a bunch of woke crap.
I didn't abandon comics. Comics abandoned me.

Honestly, I now understand why some people say “Just don’t shove it in my face”. This isn’t representation, I’d more so like if none of the characters were LGBTQIA+ than this. Is this honestly what comic book writers and older generations think we like? They are so obsessed with being relatable that they forget to actually make them feel human instead of a sad excuse for a trendy character.
Fr,like this is my main issue with usual comics these days,we don't need LGBTQ characters or any of that, what most matters is a good story, you can add pieces and everything but making a well flexed story and interesting characters that feel relatable instead of a annoying political agenda, but you know that's just my thoughts, but ye good comment👍💯
@@SpookyHost ok but that isn't fair. You may not need lgbt representation becuse you aren't lgbt but not everything is meant to appeal to you. There are real lgbt kids that would love to finally see someone that is like them. A big part of comic book heroes or characters in media in general is they're most of the time supposed to be relateble. I still remember the first time i saw a piece of media that had male same-sex relationship that weren't either one-sided tokens for diversity or the butt of the joke from their straight peers...i was 16 when i experienced that. While i've never had problems consuming media made by and for straight audiences, it does bring that extra oomf when the characters in question are relateble with a big part of your psychology and identity. Lgbt youth deserve that in the form of lgbt characters. Heterosexual and cisgender characters are everywhere, so i understand why alot of people don't understand the need for lgbt representation but cishet people would feel the same as lgbt people if almost every single character was lgbt. Im not saying the writers of these stories are doing good by making the stories like in this video, far from it. Lgbt people also do not want half-baked tokenisms of characters. We are not 2 dimensional beings with a sparkly label. What the writers are doing wrong is they're making them caricatures rather than characters. If you're going to do this, you might aswell not try to write queer characters. And if you still want to include lgbt people regardless, do not try to write lgbt unique experience like coming out and facing homophobia/transphobia if you do not know how to. Just make it so that they're viewed exactly the same as straight people but with an opposite sex partner and viola, easy gay character. Leave the more emotional and granted more realistic parts of growing up/being lgbt to people that know how to do it. Im not saying make every character gay ofcourse. But for the lgbt being about 10% of the population, there's a serious lack of us in alot of media let alone ones that are well written and not just a token side character. It doesn't help that content created by lgbt people revolving around lgbt characters are pushed against in alot of companies and media and outright censored in alot of countries.

It is also true that they tackle ideas in a different and in some many cases bizarre/blunt ways. (closest examples in mind are: Berzerk, Baki, Re: Zero, and any manga by Junji Ito).
@@VaughanRoderick This dude doesn't read enough american comics and it shows, there's a lot of American titles that are just as worse sometimes even worse than Manga. I can even name 10 off the top of my head. Manga is just gaining popularity in the west will it stand the test of time? That remains to be seen because Japanese culture is currently a trend. I've been reading manga and watching anime since the 90's and while it's at the biggest in popularity it's been in recent history it's a bit of a stretch to say it will stand the test time. Outside of DBZ Manga/Anime has no iconic characters known globally.
There's also more to horror manga than just junji Ito.
@@VaughanRoderick Goodnight Punpun is ridiculously good, that manga is life itself and that hurts.
This is extremely relatable! Thank you for addressing this!
I'm glad this video popped up cause I wanted to get a new warriors comic until I learned about those new young characters. Hate them like safespace? Really?
One of them has a TikTok, one of them has a fitness insta, one of them is basically the moderator for the mutant subreddit-
Ok but what’s their backstory? What’s their personality like? What’s their goal, and what drives them to accomplish this goal?
Their goal maybe beating up woke twittard villain

EXACTLY!
“I’m not starfire” a new joke has added
And they wonder why manga sells more than comics. Comics now is basically a woke agenda that they are pushing to the people who dont even read comics. Like you will see people defend I'm not starfire haven't actually read comics and I can bet that they will never buy that comic.
Well, for once, I’m not Starfire is not a comic. It’s a graphic novel, non canon and no related to any major storyline in the Dc universe.
Also, I don’t like the plot and find it extremely boring and uninteresting; but it is not Canon so, I can’t get angry for that. It’s a novel for teenagers, geez. Let it be.
Liam R3d I don’t care it is a graphic novel or not as long as a good story is written that what does matter. See how DC turned off the comments on twitter and UA-cam and it is just a graphic novel for teenagers. Can DC just think little bit before deciding to publish it.
Roshaan Hasanat it is a graphic novel. But still good point what you said
@@talxxn the thing is that for these teenagers I can bet u rn they would rather read manga cuz it's free and they dont have to pay and its easily accessible. That's why I say that they are selling to the wrong crowd. Like if you want to gain a new audience then do that no one is hating but when your methods of gaining the new audience is gonna make you lose your current audience then there is a problem.
It's not just comics going down this road but also movies series and games and I too am just over it this garbage needs to stop it's ruining so may good things 😞
what tf is "experimental internet gas" lol
The dumbest thing they could've done is naming the Non-Binary character "Snowflake"
I just can't process the fact that several people designed that character, the name, the idea, etc and all collectively agreed that "yes, this is a good idea" 😭😭
@@beec6837 This is why old people ( no offense ) should don't do stuff targeted for younger people.
Why is it dumb?
@@crushersbutlessedgynow Because calling someone snowflake is meant to be an insult. It means you're sensitive and weak, and people who say that often direct it at LGBTQ+ people, so the fact that they named one of their first non-binary characters that was a horrible idea.

"It's OK, I'm over 21!"
Neffariousnyc My first thought as well.
These comics already don’t understand or explore the concept of vigilantism, the pros and cons of it. This guy doesn’t even understand what it actually means.
It's bullshit. Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider before puberty hit him.

"He doesn't have friends,he has followers"
that cringed me
That's incredibly depressive
look how they massacred my boy
That could actually be a really interesting element of characterization to explore. How having followers instead of friends impacts the character mentally and emotionally, how the need for likes and upvotes have corroded away the lines between the performative self and the real self leading to a sense of unfulfillment and desperate need to be accepted.
Maybe that could be the motivation to be a hero, only to realize it's ultimately the same thing, a performance and mask to gain approval of people they don't have any meaningful connection to. Over the course of the story they make real connections and the motivation changes to a desire to protect their new found family. It could be a whole growth arc.
But I doubt any of that will be in it.
Cool, so he's an asshole
i been buying up and reading 60's-90's comics, its been so much fun! :)
Good stories come from a person with unique personal experiences from their own life who takes their own history and transforms it into something new. So therefore, we get diverse art from encouraging everyone to tell stories, not by trying to tell shallow stories on everyone else in the worlds behalf. Forcing people to try to include everyone and everything in their art gives the opposite result, and we as artists end up including no one.
They literally named these characters characters "Snowflake" and "Safespace". 💀💀

👁👄👁
Them trying to “diversify” the XMen when they have ALREADY been a symbol for the outcast and the mistreated since day 1 was so fvcking funny to me what are they even doing
isn't that exactly why they _should_ diversify the X-Men??? obviously with better characters, but those were just concepts
@@ashcommittedarsonbutinasexyway maybe i phrased it wrong, nothing bad about being even MORE diverse but just.. create characters that make sense
I wondered at that, too. I loved the New Mutants (X-Men 2nd gen.) because Ororo was such a strong leader; Wolverine grew on me, but it took years. Nightcrawler was QUITE different, being small, "black" German, and having a tail. And he was so tender and perceptive! But I HATED what happened to Angel, when he lost his wings.
They have to be XWomen
To be fair, Claremont, possibly the greatest X Men writer ever, made the good point that the original X Men team being an all white team that was supposed to represent diversity, was a bit of a problem, and that affected a lot of his writing decisions. And Claremonts run was GODLY, probably the greatest single X Men writing run.
