The sweetest family and people you would ever want to know. They were a true blessing to the world of music and their contributions were monumental. I met Jef at SIR on Gower in Hollywood as he was rehearsing with Box Scaggs among many other artists in 1976 & 1977. He was always running from session to session recording with Leo Sayer, Seals & Crofts, Michael McDonald and so many others. At the same time he would take time to get to know you with that classic Jeff Porcaro smile on his face being the gentleman and professional player he had become. I would have drinks with him at the NAMM Show and he was always interested in finding out more about what I was doing. He was wired like nobody else and all in a very good way.
I will never forget Jeff, or Mike, or Joe. I love them now. I will never say "loved" because that would indicate my love ended. And it is for eternity.
This is so awesome John! Thank you brother. 😊❤️🙏 *I second Rob’s sentiment about how you just felt like you “knew” Jeff without ever having met him due to his obvious humanity and humility. What a gem. Damn I wish he were still with us. ❤️🥁
This was so fabulous!! I never really was into drummers until Jeff. I absolutely loved his playing and respect him as a person and especially as a musician so much. I read and enjoyed Robyn’s book after hearing about it through Lee Sklar’s Clubhouse. Bring on another one, Robyn, if you have it in you!!
Great talk! Every time I hear a Toto song, my ear goes right to those drums. Jeff was a one-of-a-kind! Also - I love the endless good-natured ribbing about Steve from Rick. Comedy gold!
This is like a dream conversation you had in your head in a dream… thanks for making this dream come true along with the boook! I’d love to have it on tape like you alll suggested in the beginning half of this great conversation of monsters among humans! Well humans like my silly dork drummer self…. My mother dear got me the greatest birthday present this year which was signed copy it this book which was signed by Robyn and that made my 37th year on this planet just a bit brighter amongst the grim past year really made it soo soo great! It being my 37th year I began thinking jeffrey only was around til his 38th… i then Began thinking how much more work as a drummer and human being that he had done so much more than I had even to begin thinking about, that I’m almost ashamed! Jokingly in a sense right?! However if our lives could have past in some amazing dream I know jeff would have just said hey man, I’d love to hear ya play or something very humbly normal that makes jeff amongst most human of humans. Oh and then there’s like oh I don’t know over 700 records that he played on that I keep trying to get ahold of that Ill Cherish forever cus I love all encompassing anything of any Porcaro, I love it all! Thank you so much to all of you your all my all time favorites. Steve gadd being from Rochester, I’m from Rochester and have that amazing connection with Eastman etc. vinnie, one man in drumming that you can just say his first name and ya know exactly who it is, is one of my all time favs with his work with Zappa to Sting etc etc etc. and of course Rick marotta and learning all of his grooves from all the timeless steely stuff etc. and finally learning about all the others here is just a treat. Thanks again and again.
Thank you for this amazing livestream. It's amazing to see my drum idols talking about the legendary Jeff. That's so sweet and fantastic. Much love from northern Italy. Really great.
Fabulous!! Please keep them coming. This is music/drum world gold. Always learn some great stuff along with some solid yucks. Always love the Rick 'n Steve show. Planning on ordering the book soon!!
Read the Porcaro book on release good but really just a collection of all the articles and interviews I owned over the last 40 years. The only thing new was that Cher did not wish to be interviewed about Jeff. Says a lot about her
Thanks all for the great insights..cant wait to get the Book...My go to track which illustrates Jeff's wonderful musicianship is "10pm" from Larry Carlton's album "Last Night". Beautiful drum track for beautiful music.
Thanks John for posting this. You yourself sir are a very nice guy having met you at several NAMM shows over the years. Ironically, we talked Vinnie and not Jeff though, lol.
Catching up for tomorrow's episode. So glad I read the first book. A great show, John!

I could listen to Jeff stories all day long.Vinnie is a wonderful person also.
My two icons.
Bought the book (kindle format) after watching the Porcaro round table the other day…..devoured it. Buy it!!!
An audio book would be great! I’d listen to that for the rest of my life!!
Great book, Genius drummer.
Maybe rose coloured glasses but everything he touched was golden. Never got to see him live. Except on video but he shines through the screen.

Jeff and Gadd played on Mike McDonald s album in 82 I wonder if they would have hung out or exchanged ideas for the album!

Awesome John, thanks!
Joe B. Put your phone way man. ;-)
Robyn, please don't wear dangling ear rings when you're wearing a mic.
This is really, really awesome! hate to say that Robyn is pretty annoying!
Totally agree. It took 25 minutes of her discussing her writing. Would rather hear the drum techs comments since he knew Jeff the best.
The ladies mic is making this horrible clicking sound! I wished Gary would’ve talked more.
Good video. 👍
