This car was the monster of 1970, almost untouched. This car still kicks many new cars asses, wonder how it would be to go back in time and know you were driving a car faster than 99% of the cars on the road
Good God,that was THE CAR in 1970 when I graduated High School. It was and still is my favorite. My Buddy had one ( They had money ) we cut class one day and went down the shore. The NJ turnpike never saw anything like this car when we came roaring down it! What a ride!
I thought the saying was "There's no replacement for displacement." Either way, great car and as always great video. Would love to make this my third purchase from Chicago Cars Direct. Keep up the good work guys!
I'm not sure why You are getting bashed here. You obviously were not around when this muscle car was born, but did a very nice presentation anyway. Excellent selling video. Jeff
KerryInTheNameOf I have the answer for u sir and it's actually quite simple. The cowl flapper door was operated by vacuum so only under high vacuum levels would it open aka foot to the floor cuz that's the only time it was needed. The thinking was that no one would full throttle a 396 or 454 chevelle in the rain on skinny bias-ply tires so it stays closed and no rain gets in. If you were brave enough to do so you'd have much more to worry about that getting rain in the filter and carb. Lol.
@carsbyjeff Hi Jeff good to see you here. I watch all of your's and Tony's videos and they are the best. Your enthusiasm and passion really comes through. You guys look like little boys weilding 44 magnums when you talk about and drive the cars. BTW what is the song in Tony's videos?
Now does this dude have A JOB or what.. I envy you you lucky SOB.. :D Once you´re at it Chris, do a review on a 69´ or 70´ Mustang Mach 1 or a Boss even if you can get your hands on one. That would really make my day and propably yours too for that matter.. :D Thank you for my favourite car reviews!
how much would it cost to restore a chevelle's body and engine? i love these cars so much.....you americans really know how to make epic cars (and that's coming from a porsche lover :P)
Yes they where 402 and they still badged them as 396’s. These engines are far from a 396 truck motor lol. The SS 396 badge needs to go down and to the left a bit and I doubt that a 1970 Chevelle came tuxedo black with white strips and was ordered with green interior. The steering box is worn… and watch that temp. But it’s a very nice car. Good luck
That it is...that it is. It was designed to stand up to the gobs of power in GM's larger engines in the late-60s. The stoutness of this unit brought GM to switch its transmission supplier from Borg-Warner to Muncie until the mid-70's, when muscle cars disappeared and horsepower figures wimped out.
Okay guys, I have a question to anyone who owns one of these cars. How do they do in the rain? It seems like the cowl induction hood would allow water to get into the engine. I know this might seem like a stupid question, but I can't find anything information about this potential issue online.
tbh if i had the money. I'd definitely make it a daily driver. well during the summer and fall that is. Would use truck for winter/rainy spring days. These were built to be driven, not kept up in the garage.
@mageac idk man, i drove my dads svt, new 392 challenger, and his 78 volre roadrunner edition and my sister got a 00' prelude with a jdm swap and i got an 08 mugen si sedan and a 93 gsr. i think the hondas r more fun but the sound of the muscle and the sheer size of the motor and power. but the weight throws me off. my mugen beat the volare 318. only cause of corners, the svt doesnt turn it just drifts maybe only the 392 does, but i like how the imports handle.
Im currently restoring 1970 chevelle ss 396 and by the looks of this video i cant wait to finish it. Thanks for the video.
This car was the monster of 1970, almost untouched. This car still kicks many new cars asses, wonder how it would be to go back in time and know you were driving a car faster than 99% of the cars on the road
I love these cars... classics just perfect and the sound is just.. wow
After I saw a Chevelle for the first time I instantly fell in love with it. It is such a beautiful car.
Good God,that was THE CAR in 1970 when I graduated High School. It was and still is my favorite. My Buddy had one ( They had money ) we cut class one day and went down the shore. The NJ turnpike never saw anything like this car when we came roaring down it! What a ride!
Dam, this car is beautiful.
I love the front and back the wheels and everything.

I have a 1970 chevelle and its its been my daily driver since 2005.

Sweet American muscle. I've seen a few of these at the car shows I've been too. Awesome car. Cool video.
I can see where he's coming from. I have 70 GTO and there's endless torque in 4th gear! Those were the days of REAL cars.
I'm not sure why You are getting bashed here. You obviously were not around when this muscle car was born, but did a very nice presentation anyway. Excellent selling video.
Jeff
This car is a rebuild? With mopar, etc .. ?
The car is a dream.
The vacuum drops when you open the throttle. That's why you match your power valve to your idle vacuum level to keep it from dumping fuel at idle...
this was the best looking year for the chevelle.
very sweet looking SS
Excellent video Chris!
Jeff
I think anyone who calls themself a true car enthusiasts needs to own a 60's/70's muscle car just once in their lives.
omfg this car is a beauty and a beast.

One of my dream cars. I would cut off a finger for it right now
i would literally kill for this car..
@44magnumbr It has lapbelts edgar allen bro. These cars didn't have shoulder straps. So comfortable. Not so safe. My '65 Mercedes has lapbelts :D

This is very nice.
The line is 'there's no replacement for displacement'

There is no replacement for displacement
Amazing ... Chevy power ... sexy car right there .... i think I hit thumbs up twice lol
Can you tell me in detail what year is better for the chevelle ss 69 or 70? Which is faster, better sound? overall better?
I dont get why people are hating on Chris, it must be plain old jealousy, thats like a dream job, depending on the money :) Nice car how much???
say'n you "have no clue" is the only honest part of this
He also mentions that in the video..
Dam I like this one alot
certain models yes. my mother had one. a chevelle malibu which had hte 454 in it.
Okay guys, I have a question to anyone who owns one of these cars. How do they do in the rain? It seems like the cowl induction hood would allow water to get into the engine.

I want this... NOWWWW
@ahot427 - Wow. Now that's a cool story. Never heard that one...
Jeff
Great car.
Your videos are ofcourse awesome, but you really need that mic for clear sound.
"Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packing here...."
Why are there speed bumps in a more or less rural area? They make some sense in residential areas, but out in the middle of nowhere?
How much do these run for? I would really like to get on :)
i would love to have that car its such a fucking beast
This video kicked ass. No shitty music, beautiful OEM Chevelle (the way all muscle cars not actively racing *should* be restored), 720p, just sick.
tbh if i had the money. I'd definitely make it a daily driver. well during the summer and fall that is. Would use truck for winter/rainy spring days.
These were built to be driven, not kept up in the garage.
@chicagocarsdirect
lol, is this chris moran the guy in the video?
