The roughly 11 minute version is by far the best one that CCR did. It has a truly amazing "jam session" added to the song and really highlights John's guitar skills.
John Fogerty, a California boy singing like the son of a Louisiana bullfrog who mated with a swamp alligator, lollllll 😂😅 Great way to help me start my day, Aileen, thank you. 😇✌️🎸🌹
CCR is pure. Their sounds are pretty raw, beautiful & relatable. Incredible group that is now legendary. Each member was essential to their musical creations. Others posted other songs of theirs, which are all recommended. Just good stuff.
This is such a great song. I like all 3 hit versions of this songs by Gladys Knight & The Pips, Marvin Gaye & CCR. But my favorite is by CCR. You need to listen to the 11 min. studio version by them. It is a masterpiece. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. You have a huge catalogue of CCR's songs to go through. "Proud Mary", "Born On The Bayou", "Bad Moon Rising", "Lodi", "Green River", "Commotion", "Night Time Is The Right Time", "Down On The Corner", "Fortunate Son", "Cotton Fields", "Midnight Special", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Up Around the Bend", "Run Through The Jungle", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Suzie Q", "I Put A Spell On You", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.
It wasn't their song Aileen. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for Gladys Knight & the Pips and released as a single in September 1967.
Omg there are so many actual Creedence songs you'd love. Bad moon rising, Fortunate son, Proud Mary, Around the bend, Have you ever seen the rain, Born on the bayou, Looking out my back door...
Trust me Aileen, this is one of the greatest rabbit holes (at least top 5) you will ever go down in your music exploration! Please listen and react to more CCR! They will repeatedly find their way into your personal playlist. Just off the top of my head: Green River. Who'll Stop The Rain. Have You Ever Seen The Rain. Up Around The Bend. Bad Moon Rising, etc.
CCR was one of the Most well rehearsed bands I've ever listened to. And I've seen hundreds in concert (I'm 76 years young). I saw CCR twice ('70 and '72) and they were AWESOME !! Love you and your reactions !!
I grew up hearing CCR on classic rock stations, and I was really surprised the first time I saw some of their early videos and realized how young he was when they started.
Back in the day I had an Archie comic. The story referenced the new hottest band in Riverdale. They couldn't use CCR's actual name so the band was called something like Greedence Greenwater Revival but we all knew who they were referencing!
CCR works! Can't wait to see you react to more of their songs. CCR was at one point the most popular band in the world. They have so much to listen to!
CCR was my favorite group of all that I ever listened to. John Fogerty was the lead sing, Lead Guitarist, and primary song writer. His older brother Tom was Rhythm Guitarist. Stu Cook Bassist. Doug Clifford Drummer. One of their greatest songs was Fortunate Son. But my favorite one was Bad moon Rising. A friend of my in school turned that song in to a punch line for a joke once in our English class.
Creedence Clearwater Revival became the soundtrack to my youth. Growing up in 60's Denmark we heard a lot of Doors, CCR, steppenwolf and Roger McGuinn music, puffin' on the weed and letting the free spirit roam.
They have a lot of 3 minute songs that kick ass. Green River, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Commotion, Down on the Corner, FORTUNATE SON( a must hear song), traveling band, who’ll stop the rain, up around the bend. So many more. However you should watch the VH1 behind the music episode on the band. It was great - then it all went downhill. Two brothers that rarely talked to each other again, the bass and drum player being sued by the singer. The singer/ songwriter selling his song rights to a devious and amoral conman for a very small amount of money. You should watch it. The CCR backstory is on UA-cam somewhere.
@@PatrickMersinger yes, exactly. There's a saying for that but is not coming to mind right now xD but yeah they're nonstop hits. I stole my dads best of ccr cd back in high school and its one of the few i still keep in my car, it never gets old on roadtrips and what not. Love them.
I'm remembering being a kid on a bike, with a transistor radio hanging from the handlebars, hoping this song would come on. We old folks grew up with some awesome music.
I know exactly what you mean, when the musicians have fun playing together and actually understand the songs it makes listening to them more enjoyable. Thanks for the review.
This song was written by Norman Whitfield of Motown records. The owner of Motown records Barry Gordy hated the song but Whitfield kept pushing to have it released. Finally It was released by Gladys Knight & The Pips. It was a moderate hit but when Marvin Gaye recorded it became a mega hit and a Motown Classic. CCR had many big hits many are named in other comments. John Fogerty's voice is a classic. My personal favorite is "Traveling Band" a little more on the rock side. Still hoping you do Billy Idol live version of Mony Mony. Great reaction as always and thank you.
Thanks Aileen, you made my day. Can't beat a bit of CCR, you could literally have picked any of their songs and you would have been just as impressed. Born On The Bayou is a must though.
CCR has a ton of great songs. Fortune Son, Down on the Corner, Run Through the Jungle, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Proud Mary, Up Around the Bend, Lodi, Long As I Can See the Light, Travelin’ Band, Susie Q.
Welcome to CCR Aileen! John Fogerty (lead singer) has a great soulful southern rock voice with 11 herbs and spices 😉 check out “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” next.🎸
Creedence Slearwater Rivival aka CCR are one of my favorite groups. A touch of history: "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for Gladys Knight & the Pips and released as a single in September 1967.
This is a great cover, but it's a Gladys Knight song. I wish whoever suggested would have introduced you to one of their own songs, there are so many. "Fortunate Son" "Bad Moon rising"' Who'll stop the rain" "Green river" "Run through the jungle" "Lookin out my back door" " Down on the corner" Always love your reactions Aileen!
CCR were one of the truly great rock bands of the '60's and '70's and I love John Fogerty's incredible vocals and his lovely accent ('Hoyd it through the grapevine'). Many other great CCR tracks to enjoy. 🙋♂
Funny enough, this is a cover. CCR wrote so many great songs however and many of those were covered. Best one being Tina Turner's version of Proud Mary. React to that one please! you'll love it!!

Proud Mary is Ike and Tina Turner I do believe
@@OrangeMonkey2112 Ike and Tina Turner covered the song. CCR made the original version

either that or simply Creedence

John Fogerty probably had the most unique voice ever. Never heard anyone sound like he did back then. CCR have tons of great songs
He still has a great voice.
Yes, John Fogerty was the voice of CCR, you should also listen to who'll stop the rain and Born on the Bayou
"I Put A Spell On You" is one of my favorite Creedence songs! Check that one out, you'll be glad you did!

Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye and CCR all did great versions, but how great was the cover by the California Raisins!
I absolutely love the long version of that song by CCR. I always look forward to your videos. Very positive and uplifting!

"have you ever see the rain?", only for see your face in recognition of it
Get this to top, make Aileen either really happy or really sad when she listens to it
There is SO MUCH MORE!!!!!! Don't stop now!!!!!!!!
I'm very partial to their song "Lodi." Mostly because I lived there for 55 years of my life.

You are correct. It was written for Marvin Gaye
@peteleal5365 not correct, he was just one of several Motown artists to record it.
@michaelvielhaber9342 right. It was written for motown records. Not for any specific artist.
Marvin's version is the most iconic.
None of them could perform the song like CCR did.
2:27 “So much flavor” might be the best description of Fogerty’s voice I’ve ever heard. It’s one of a kind
Finally! Now go down the CCR rabbit hole! Really enjoyed your enjoyment of their enjoyment, if I said that right.
One of The Best voices of The Rock in Roll...
It's great that there is no bitterness, sorrow or sadness in this song. Thank you motown! What a positive source of American music.
