    I own a 214ce dlx. It will be a forever guitar for me. I love everything about it. With that in mind, I am 50 yrs old , and when I retire hopefully at 60 yrs old, my dream is to be living in Florida, with a top of the line Taylor, preferably the Taylor Koa with all the bling on it, ( the $9,999 model) sitting on my deck looking out to the beach playing it until the good Lord calls my name..Thanks for the video, I subscribed. Thanks Jerry

    great video, thanks! My personal opinion after trying different ones at local store, that there is no much difference in sound for my ears between 100 and 200 series, I find the differences more esthetic, 200 series look more beautiful. However if you climb up to 300 there you see significat improvements in sound compared to 100 and 200 series. I am about to pick my first Taylor today, second hand 110e.

    Have a 2008 DN3 (now 3 series) and a 517e Builder's Edition WHB. They are both great but incredibly different. The DN3 is big, easy to play and produces a ringing top end and boomy bottom. The 517e is warm, round, focussed and a tad more difficult to play (C shaped neck) - it was much MORE EXPENSIVE too. You must try them before you buy them, they are so different.

    I must add that the Taylor adjustable neck was originally designed and hand built by Monty Novotny of NBN guitars in the early 1970's. They were based out of Longmont, Colorado. Monty is never given credit for his innovation.
    They built guitars for people like James Taylor, Leo Kottke, Paul Simon. They put their neck on a dobro own by Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young). You can see that guitar on the back of one of Stephen Still's albums.
    The word goes that Still's girlfriend at the time got pissed at him and smashed the dobro guitar on the bed and broke the neck.

Andy Power would probably be made a Lord for producing more from a guitar that anyone this century. Thank you for a most informative look at the Taylor range of guitars. As a side note I have been playing guitar for over 55 years and owned many different makes, including Maton and Ovation, and none could match the playability or comfort of the Taylor neck design or the tone of Koa.

    Paid good money for a 150e 12 string but I live nowhere near an authorised repair person and since most Tailor guitars are not correctly adjusted and necks need re shimming .. guess what ? They refuse to provide corrective shims. Have tried everywhere but only received condescending dismissive reply's from Taylor and links to Australian repair techs closest 700kms away and I wont mail my guitar. I am perfectly able to do the repair and the maths to set up shims neck and saddle but they wont help at all. My action is 13/64 at the 12 fret, guitar kept in perfect humidity. Am gutted as I look at my $1400 au wall hanger. Don't buy unless you can afford expensive hidden costs and egotistic help people.

  • @MOAB-UT
    @MOAB-UT 2 роки тому +1

    You failed to mention that V class bracing absolutely kills mids and low base. You only highlighted a few characteristics like intonation and sustain. Why is this- are you sponsored by Taylor? Given how you used their own marketing soundbites, my guess is yes (even if you won't admit it.) FYI, the 110e uses the old and superior X bracing. It holds it's own very well against their top models. It is the best values out there.

    • @MOAB-UT
      @MOAB-UT 2 роки тому

      @Rob B Hi Rob- Forget V bracing (most Taylors since 2018) if you like mids and lows. If you plug in, you can adjust the EQ and it will be better.
      There are numerous A/B videos in YTube that show the difference. Type in "Taylor X vs V bracing." Even the pro's were like- hmmm where did the base go? By making the top super strong, they will probably save $ on warranty claims for cracking however the tone suffers big time. I really wanted that 714ce but could not stand the tone. I played about 10 of them at 4 different guitar shops so it's the design and not a one off thing. They sounded like Ukulele's- very clinical and trebly.
      The 110e still uses the good old X bracing. I just bought one this week. I compared it to about 10 other guitars in the store and walked out with it. I walked in prepared to invest in a Martin D-18 but the 110e sounded as you said, boomier and brighter- a nice balanced tone. I also compared it to the Deluxe version 110e. The satin finish sounded better. Gloss finishes inhibit tone.
      The action is very easily adjusted on all Taylors. They use a bolt on neck and shims. A good tech can dial it in quickly for you. I found the fit and finish in general superior on Taylors. I heard they stand behind their warranties better too vs. Martin.
      GC has 15% off right now so you can grab that 110e for very little. You have 45 days too if you don't like it so it's a no brainer. Another good guitar to check out is called Larrivee. I also bought a LV-03e which is slightly smaller and has a cutout. They are hand-made in CA.

      @Rob B Ok, so again, if you like Boom- you will want to avoid any V braced guitar- go with fwd shifted X bracing and a dread shape. I would not get a new 618 or 818.
      FYI, the first # is the series so 600 or 800 series. 18 is the wood so Spruce top over Maple. 28 or 628, 828, 3etc. gets you Spruce on top and ROSEWOOD back and sides. Personally I like Mahogany (14- so 714 814, etc.) MOH emphasizes mids and keeps the highs and lows in check. It's best for blues and single note runs. Rosewood is good but it highlights the highs and lows. At first it sounds good but the mids are scooped and the overtones can be a bit much. Ideally have 2-3 guitars for different genres or type of playing.
      You can watch the interview with the V brace designer- called The Real Story. He sells it well but when you play it, it just lacks for many...myself included. If you read the forums, it is a common complaint. If you like treble, go for it.

      I have the 324ce and it has all the sounds you claim are lacking. It’s an all around amazing guitar and the v bracing actually brings out more sound on this type of guitar with the solid mohagany top. And black wood back and sides. It’s amazing.

      @@R.L.Humpert I never specifically referenced, or played a 324ce. Also, the specific tone woods make a huge difference. Solid Mahogany and blackwood is a unique and very nice combination. Maybe that is enough to overcome what I consider shortcomings in the "new" V bracing system.
      You have a beautiful instrument. If I recall right, I don't think it has a heavy gloss layer on it- which could be another reason you are hearing relatively nicer bass tones. I have A/B'd various Taylors and those without gloss finishes just sounded better. Also, if you are playing your acoustic through an amp and bump up the low EQ, it will sound much better. The V bracing does offer some advantages but unplugged, they were not enough "for me" to buy one. If you love the way your sounds- that is really all that matters.
      I stand firmly behind the fact that I have tried over a half dozen, newer (2018-2021) 314ce, 414ce and 714ce and 2, 814ce's (from 3 different stores.) Every single one noticeably lacked mids and especially bass as compared to their pre-2018 counterparts. Keep in mind that I very much wanted to like them. I was all set to buy the gorgeous 714ce but it was just to tinny.
      There is a video online in YTube called "Taylor V vs X Bracing - Is Taylor's New Bracing Better?" Watch it and listen carefully. These seasoned players very accurately comment exactly on what my experience has been.
      Bottom line- if you have a guitar you love, that's great. It doesn't matter what anyone says. By and large however, the newer Taylors with the V bracing, while nice guitars to look at do lack some of the tonal qualities that many players like (bass and mids.) I would encourage you to visit a GC and try one of the 314, 414 or 714's and see if you notice it. By contrast play the equivalent Martin. Sound is also subjective- so get what you like. I ended up buying a new Taylor dreadnought this month that has the old X bracing. It sounds great and has plenty of bass. I also appreciate the fine craftmanship that all Taylor instruments offer. I even like the on-board ES2 electronics.

      I totally disagree with you,You either can't afford a Taylor or obviously don't know what your talking about,I own many different brands of guitars and Taylor is the best of the best.
