I have a 13 year old Granddaughter who wants to learn, she sings beautifully so imagine my happiness when she just told me she wants to learn guitar! This is a very well done video that explains things so even someone who knows nothing about a guitar can learn! Thank you! You do seem to love your art!
The guitar i want: 0:33 String type- steel string. 1:37 Body & shape- Jumbo. (It has that cowboy string sound) 4:08 ToneWoods- Spruce. fingerboard - ebony 6:13 Construction Techniques- HPL High Pressure Laminate. 8:22 Added Technology- Tuner build in.
When I bought my first acoustic the sales guy said to get one with good action. Meaning how high the strings are off the fretboard. If the setup is bad it can be hard to learn on and get discouraged and stop playing. Also not knowing how to play can intimidate some people when buying their first acoustic. Ask the salespeople what they would buy and ask them to play the guitar so you could hear how it sounds. 26 years playing myself and I thought the $500-700 Martins sounded awesome and play so smooth. My friend has a $1200 Taylor and my hand was cramping after a minute of playing it. So the $$ does not always mean much. And to those who want to pick up a guitar. It is possible to play anything you want. Just keep playing. Rip off all you can and then make it your own..
Looking to start lessons and scratch a long held itch to learn the guitar, this is a brilliant explanation and aimed at the total beginner like myself. Great content with basic language, no jargon and no sales pitch. The presenter sounds like a true lover of the instrument, and not a salesman. Top stuff 👌
People say you should learn on an acoustic first, ( which I didn't) but I was afraid of the care it took for my goofy climate here in Maine. Settling finally with the Taylor 214ce. It's supposed to be a nice acoustic within my price range and it's a lefty which are almost impossible to find with different manufacturers. You hear me Yamaha? I was looking into them until I found they had just 4 lame options. Martin had the 000 series, but months to deliver and no returns if I don't like it.
Going out today to buy my first guitar. Really glad i watched your video to give me some idea of what i want. I will definitely be having nylon strings. Thanks for a very good video and advice.
Very good job of covering all the various aspects to consider. You really can’t go wrong getting any of these guitars and it is only after you have one and have played it over time that you will have a better idea of the type you would prefer.
45 years old and I just bought my first guitar and bass (both Ibanez and both electric/acoustic).I can only pick out a couple of memorable parts from a few songs, probably not correctly, but it sounds close. Gotta start somewhere.😁
I’ve been playing guitar for a while, but have been playing on a crappy hand-me-down acoustic that doesn’t really sound good, so this was very helpful for getting a new one
I’ve never learnt anything related to music at all and I would love to start with guitar. I’m 20 years old and I know it’s bs to say “it’s too late to start” but really I am afraid of judgement of starting out late and from zero, when everyone around me has at least some musical knowledge. Thank you for this video I understood guitars a bit more
I know this is a month late but I hope you did it! Screw what people think. I’m a few years older and picked up guitar this past winter. It has been an awesome journey and feels so satisfying learning something I always thought about doing. The people that will talk negative about something like that are often the people who are scared to start something new themselves. Most people I’ve encountered are thrilled to share there passion with you and help you out.
If it makes you feel better I'm 56 and just decided I'm going to learn to play guitar, in the process of figuring out what guitar I am buying to learn on
I had absolutely no idea what I was looking for or know about guitars but this video really gave me everything to look for and what to buy! Thanks mate you’re a legend ! Best video on explaining everything
Been playing guitar for 25 years now. I’m 36. In and out of bands. Solo stuff as well. Had a lot of good guitars and crappy ones but never a really great acoustic. Well, my fiancé just informed me she’s taking me tomorrow and buying me the Taylor 214ce I’ve been wanting forever. I’m so stoked I could cry. Godspeed
I'm going to start to learn guitar after a year and a half of teaching myself piano, and this purchase will be the closest thing comparison to a wand from Ollivander's😅
After 20 years of playing ok guitars I finally got my Left-handed Gibson J45 a few weeks ago Wow took my playing to the next level with having a solid sounding guitar
I had the means for a Gibson J45 as my first acoustic guitar. But given that it's a Gibson, I worry too much about carrying it around my house. In the first week I had it, I slightly knicked the edge twice. It's a good thing it came with a case. I'm wanting to downsize though. Considering an Epiphone, since they are Gibson's lower tier, but might look at Fender and Yamaha as well. Definetly want one with Electric Playback to connect to Rocksmith.
you will get knicks in any guitar if you bump it into something. The name on the headstock doesn't mean a thing, especially if it's sitting in a case a guitar is meant to be played.
Breedlove and Seagull both make very good guitars at multiple price points. Most important points are whether the neck is easy to play for your hands, and body size is comfortable for your build. If either is uncomfortable, you will not want to play enough.
This was a great preview of buying a guitar. It helped to broaden my selection process as far as the kind of sound and tones I resonate with as well as all the options to choose from. I'll review it again before I'm ready to buy. Much appreciated!
not sure what guitar center this guy works at but I can tell you which one he doesn't work at....G.C. Manchester CT. He is kind, not condescending , and doesn't somehow be pushy while also ignoring you !
Too bad you are not top result, when you should be . Good video editing skills, good hd sound, nice mellow presentation without the typical youtuber bullshit. Great job, you earned a sub.
I have short fingers..ridiculously short..so for me an ideal guitar would be one that has vertically small and short frets and a thin neck so my fingers and arms wouldn't strain easily as i play especially when barred chords are involved
Thank you for a great presentation, one of my children was very curious about a friends guitar at our last o ernight in a cottage and I was always curious myself. This helped tremendously with how to go about choosing one we could both learn on.
im a taylor fan but dont got taylor money. tone woods are super important! traded in a martin x series composite 'koa' guitar for a yamaha trans acoustic with sitka spruce top and indian rosewood and that 700$ guitar compared to 1400$ taylors and i love the effects it has like a mini amplifier in it! name brand doesnt mean too much there are quality guitars. just pick what feels and sounds right within your budget. tonewoods tho
If I have a steel string acoustic guitar, could I switch only the strings to nylon, still using the same guitar? The bridge seemed to be different for the two styles of guitar in the video.
No. You can't. If the guitar has already steel strings, it should stay with steel strings and if the guitar has already nylon strings, it should stay with nylon strings. Because it could damage your guitar due to the different pressure of the string. Hence why we have a classical guitar (Nylon string guitar) and an acoustic guitar (Steel-string guitar)
@@junchristophergutierrez2148 I found out from several sources that you can switch to nylon if you have a steel string guitar, but you cannot switch from a nylon string guitar to steel strings. If the guitar was designed for nylon strings the tension placed on it by the steel strings would damage the nylon string guitar.
No. Nylon sting guitars and steel string guitars are completely different instruments in almost every way......no no noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
I’m about to buy my 7th guitar and found EVERYTHING in this video helpful!! I think I only knew the difference between nylon and steel string prior to watching 😂
3:53 for anyone who wants a acoustic guitar throw everything he has said out the window and buy that Martin 000-18 in the glass case over his left shoulder 😊
Love this choice tutorial! Very informative and interesting. I'm going to rewatch now, but this time take notes. Thank you for providing such essential & important information!
This is the most in depth and professional guitar buying guide I’ve seen!
Ikr! I’m a noob. I really found this video helpful on all sorts of levels!
Good information
Well, not a word about the sizes (width/thickness) of the neck. Very important because people's hands are different sizes.
So which guitar do I buy for the first time ever playing
Agreed.

I wouldn't ask a salesman....they all have their biases....pick a customer in the store who plays well and get him/her to demo for you.
I bought a cheap guitar, now suffering because it has terrible action
