- How to repair a ice machine not making ice. The best way to fix it is to know what the proper order of events are. Once you test to see where the ice machine is failing to properly make ice you simply check the normal common problems like; dirty condenser coil, dirty ice machine, poor water quality and restricted water filter, dirty sensors, a refrigerant leak and electrical failures.

Sounds like a relay sticking with the addition of a glitch in the programming of the board, for it to throw off binary something glitches bad , great video I love your stuff, you and Chris from HVACR videos make some really good content

Good Video ! Maybe Board is not Grounded or Dirty Ground. Loose wire where wires enter machine. loose wire nut.
board busterz repairs the manitowoc control boards. Takes us 1 day and it's a much cheaper option. Keep us in mind!

I had one acting up about a year ago after a different company changed the board. When I checked to see what software it was running, all I got was gibberish. So I shut the power off and restarted the unit, and I still had gibberish for software. I also found no model or serial numbers on the board.
I had to manually enter the M&S#s and update the software and then had no more problems. Makes you yearn for the old B series😉
I like to check programming anytime I get weird problems.
How do you update the software on the control board?

Great Job. I charge like that sometimes, too. When I want in running at 100%, I pull the charge and recharge it. You got to do what you got to do.

Kinda packed? Holy crap that was packed. Dirty condenser. That board had issues. I wonder if the that condenser fan motor Isnt working as well from the dirty condenser coil.
Where do you get those books?
From the Manitowoc school. They have them at different supply houses go online and look and see where one is near you.
The relays the boards go wacky all the time. Especially on self contained
relays, made of the finest ROHS and new prone to fail contact materials! ( chinesium)
Has it happened again? I have a machine with a new board (less than 1 year) that does the same thing. It says it's freezing but the compressor is off and the water system is on. It makes good ice until it randomly glitches.

What is all these fancy electronics in a simple ice-maker, I remember working on Monitowoc ice makers in a Hotel, things were simple, limit switches and one small harvest board. matter of

Hi, my compressor is running fine ?? Because the water is running but it’s not making ice. It is cooling inside the bin. Any troubleshooting tips? My tech guy came by and measure the pressure and recommended replacing compressor ? We can’t afford that right now. Last time I did cleaning and reset then it worked. Summer time maybe ? Most problems are water-related, make sure your water filter is clean and got at least 20 to 30 lb of pressure and make sure your coils are clean and that you ran cleaner through the machine the way it's describes. After that it's hard to say without seeing it.

You're absolutely right, generally a coil that's been neglected will get so dirty that it really won't be internally embedded like you would think.
Guess I would first question why a board was replaced before routine basic condenser and machine cleanings were done?
I know you walked into this after the fact, so not trying to knock you down, just my first impression seeing this vid for the first time and being a bit distracted at that.

Those board always give problem had a problem like that in Barnes and noble band new board install 2 days later recall had to reorder board manufacturer defect

What is the reason blue LCD screen of Manitowoc Indigo series ice machine ?
I don't understand? Blue background makes it is easy to read?
So the other tech installed the board on a Friday......and didn't check anything else....ask him for a copy of his work order with all the pressures and times for 3 cycles....
In a perfect world lol. I did call him and he said everything worked fine at that time. What's interesting is we had to go back several times later for other things which were very suspicious. The water sensor kept falling down three times in a row every week to week and a half. Very weird . I would not put it past the employees to sabotage the machine.
On a CME250AE-1A what would cause the water valve not to get power to it.I measured the resistance across the terminals and got .612 kohm is this normal? after I removed it from the ice maker
612 ohms sounds possibly normal? I don't have their charts in front of me. It could be as low as 30ohms?. I would put it in test mode and verify you've got the rated voltage going to the solenoid.

I've got a brand new manitowoc ice machine and the pan over flows with water sometimes. Its level what else do I need to check
If it's a new machine it should be under warranty? I would have a service guy check it out. Sounds like a water level sensor may not be making good contact.
HPC dirty condenser was very bad.
my machine at work doesn't make ice it's rare, it beeps we check everything and can't find the problem.
If it beeps it’s likely not a Manitowoc.

Very unusual only thing i can think of was the relay may have been stook

@@HVACRSurvival must have been a microcontroller glitch then and when you did the self relay test it fixed it

Could have been due to transient power glitch. Just enough to confuse the controller but not enough for the staff to notice.

How much did you charge for this call? How long did it take?
I don't remember, I run 4-6 calls a day so that's several jobs ago since I recorded this. We charge time and material for most jobs unless it's quoted.

I had a machine doing something like this once. It turned out it was voltage drops at the outlet where it was plugged in. Their POS machine would flicker as well..

Those mani logicators seem to take "garbage in garbage out" to heart even though the inputs are not relevant to the process
Honestly they're pretty reliable normally. that's why I had a hard time accepting a brand new board taking a dump right after another board was replaced for whatever reason.? I'm not the one that replaced the other board.

I found a few things wrong later, one of the issues was someone else replace the board and diagnosed it. I came in second and can't fully explain without creating drama.

Sounds like your at a Wendys. and yea, ive got a local wendys here thats constantly "out of ice". things that make you go hmmm especially after you mentioned they dont want to do anything to it, or proper maintenance.
I've done work for Wendys before and I don't care to do it because it's a grease pit however that wasn't a Wendy's. That's a local fast food place.
