- Size is often a topic fans of Smash tend to talk about when it comes to who can and can't become a playable character in Smash Bros. For the longest time, it was Ridley that was constantly put on a pedestal for being "too big for Smash Bros", but now that he's looking to be a permanent addition to the Smash roster, the sky is seemingly the limit for what's possible.
As a result, I feel it's only appropriate for us to take a look at yet another massive Metroid villain whose size dwarfs even that of Ridley. That's right, today, we're taking a look at the Brutal Muscle of Brinstar, Kraid!

This. THIS. This was a really fun concept, trying to make a character that pushes the boundaries of what's "normal" in Smash by playing up the most ridiculous aspect about them. Sonic with his speed, Kirby with his aerial mobility, Kraid with ridiculous weight, it's those kinds of concepts that really gets the creativity and inspiration flowing. I'd love Kraid to be our first example of an "ultra-heavyweight" or "hyper-heavyweight" or whatever you want to call him. Maybe he could even be our first example of one of those "giant" characters from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?

The idea of playable Kraid being the mini Kraid from Super metroid is a wicked concept!
I love how when it comes to Metroid, the characters who would make sense to add to Smash are almost ALL villains
New Metroid Good Guys: Anthony Higgs, I guess? Adam's reputation is too ruined and I can't think of a good guy other than Samus or those two that are major.
New Metroid Bad Guys: Kraid, Mother Brain, Raven Beak, Sylux, I bet somebody out there wants the other hunters or an Omega Metroid.

@@celerity910 Only somewhat viable good guy I can think of, and this is SOLEY based on popularity, is Rundas from Metroid Prime 3, but he's dead and hasn't appeared in anything since then despite Revival being possible.
@@celerity910 I'd prefer a Zeta Metroid, as it would scale better with Samus and leave room for the Omega to be its final smash.
There’s not really a lot of “good guys” in Metroid besides Samus and Adam, now that you bring that up… and even then, Adam was an AI who did the government’s bidding before he started working with Samus

I unironically want this. You did a clever job making this colossal beast work in the game. Since he was originally tiny in NES Metroid (obviously because of hardware limitations), shrinking him down is undoubtedly more weird compared to Ridley, but Smash has broken logic in half countless times, so no one would mind.
I want him more than any other Metroid character. He feels like the closest thing to playing as a full-on boss full-time in Smash.

I like to Imagine that Kirby with the Kraid copy ability wouldn't spit up globule flames but instead small stars that do the same thing but are covered in fire.

Just like Mother Brain, Kraid would be a cool character in Smash ngl and you made a great moveset too but I think if a new Metroid character happen it will be either Raven Beak or/and the E.M.M.I from Metroid Dread or Sylux from Metroid Prime: Hunters because of Metroid Prime 4 and the fact he will most likely play a role in it.
In my opinion Kraid would be better as a boss fight for smash but I would be lying if I didn't say this is a good and creative moveset. The model used is really good and the changes for smash you made are fitting. You included every possible idea I had for the character including the extra damage to the head gimmick. Only thing I'm a little bit iffy on is him clipping through platforms all the time, he definitely deserves to be the tallest character but I think this would look a little silly then again if anyone could do it, Kraid can. A slow power grappler that's the epitome of a tank character is an interesting playstyle that would be unique for smash. Can't wait to go back to Galar next vid and see who the character is.

Recovering by causing a geyser of Brinstar acid is a really cool idea I never considered before! How would Acid Rocket work in the air though?
It would create an acid-filled rock below his feet that would explode and launch him upon impact. It's hoaky, but it's mainly for convenience's sake. It could even be shaped like a destructible block from either Brinstar or Kraid's Lair.
I bet Kraid could be a fun character to play as in Smash.
And I'd imagine that Kraid will have super armor during his smash attacks and special moves, belly super armor like King K Rool's, and also the Tough Bulwark trait that is similar to Bowser's Tough Guy trait, only much more powerful and has a much greater damage threshold, and Kraid's belly super armor is unbreakable, pretty much complimentary to his Belly Bulwark.
I can also imagine him in 8-player Custom Smash with Mega size, Metal, Reflect, Rocket Belt, Tail, Bunny, Screw Attack, also Giant size setting in fighter selection, and Giga Mushrooms included to make him super giant.

At first I always felt Kraid wouldn't work but over time I realized Kraid would work and bring an archetype that hasn't really been.. truly repped in Smash yet
K Rool and Bowser technically act as your big bodies but they don't feel truly like something that's a menacing giant

Well, Bowser is also a tank and King K Rool is also a bruiser, and Kraid's a giant thick fat bulked up bruiser tank.

Okay I mean: I play Smash since the N64 and I also liked the "Ridley is too big" meme, most of the time he was but not always. Kraid on the other Hand is at least 3 screens high...

Kraid originally was the same size as Samus. Plus mini-Kraid is a canon creature. So feel like a Kraid inclusion would be fine.
Been coming back to this just ask a question that's been bugging me lately since I've rewatched this but a question that I always forget to ask: What would happen if your Kraid fought while being in his stage? Would he just be replaced with another Metroid monster? Would it be the Kraid from ZDR (even though we don't know for sure if it's a different Kraid but he's heavily implied to be)?
nah, see, *you* play as fake kraid. y'know, the little ol' fake kraid from metroid 1, zero, and super. plus, given that smash bros tends to like being a walking advertisement (byleth, pyra mythra), it'd get people wondering, "two kraids? is that a thing?" then they buy the metroid games.
