When using a soft shackle make sure you put the knot in the middle of the span and not at the connection points to save it from being pulled apart from the tie down or strap/ winch line.
I am a crane operator and use hard shackles every day. Backing off the pin in the shackle one turn isn't really the best way. What will happen is you will end up stretching the shackle "mouth" out every time you put a bit of side pull on it (which when off roading is every time). Eventually the pin won't go in all the way. Instead use some lube on the threads of the pin and tighten it finger tight. On the off chance it gets stuck, give it a tap with anything (another shackle is what I usually use because it's handy). Your shackles will last a lot longer.
Very solid video that highlights the capability differences between the Base and the Badlands. This is a great, realistic video that shows people what a custom 4x4 Bronco can do compared with what a lot of people-who will never take their Bronco in the mud (intentionally)-will get for their money. Great job guys!
In my humble opinion the tires on the base model are fine BUT a set of slightly taller Toyo Open Country AT III and a leveling kit would work wonders , Tires are the first and most important thing to change if the rig comes with summer tires. And those AT III's would be the hot setup for a snow event. Thank You TC
Just changing out the tires for some appropriate off road tread as well as larger size would make a world of difference. - Both in terms of traction and ground clearance. Taking a vehicle off road with all season tires doesn’t really show it’s true capabilities.
Honestly, I think the Black Diamond would be the perfect trim level for what I’d want to do. I just want a mid tier trail rig to take on mountain bike camping trips! And with the name Black Diamond (like the bike trail classification) it just makes perfect sense!
But most people think they must the the loaded one to be cool or people with deep pockets still end up changing everything. I agree, black diamond is a very sweet spot.
@@davidzavala337 oh I absolutely agree. Gotta be able to flex the higher tier emblem even if you only use the extra features one single time at the Bronco Off Roadeo ha!

Your frequent content and the free Bronco swag are the only things getting me through this wait for my Bronco. Excited to see what the Base can do with a lift and better wheels, but I love all the features that come with my Wildtrak Lux package
285/75/16 mud tires and a 2 inch spacer lift will do that base some justice. Honestly not surprised at how it did. In stock form base will do best in sand.
I saw one with 33" tires no lift. It looked great and added maybe an inch of ground clearance and of course a lot more traction. The stance looked like an old land rover.
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. That base Bronco is really cool. You are the only ones that are testing out and showing the base model, that I am aware of. Keep up the great work! 😀👍
Yeah you should check out budget bronco. His bronco with the same tires as the badlands and a slight lift could've handled that course easily. And, it was much cheaper.
Pretty legit test. I look forward to what a simple lift and much more appropriate size and style tires and wheels can do to help. Yes lockers can work magic, but the base doesn't come with those so one has to work with what they got and improve in other areas that they can.
I couldn't find a way to send Town and Country a direct message... Mitchell, I just wanted to let you know, you sold me hook line and sinker. Went to my local Ford dealer where they didn't really have in stock what I made the appt. for. However I did test drive the demo and fell in love. But, turns out the cost to order is now 5K over the msrp and has driven me right out of the market. My budget was $38k with soft or removeable top, can't happen now. Your love for the product really shows. I know you can't do a thing for me... from here on out, Bronco is going to be for a wealthier person than me. Really enjoy your show!
I had thought of getting the ford bronco badlands with a hard top and sasquatch package. Would like it as a daily driver but for hunting and campting. Would the bronco badlands be good for hunting?
FINALLY a base comparison. I feel base should always be tested so people can now whats the bare minimum it can do. To bad journalists always get the loaded bling bling models. The base model is meant to be modified and first thing are the tires which make a world of a difference and at least at 33" but 35 are the sweet spot. Do a mild lift at 3 inch and a rear locker is a must. I really liking the black diamond since I believe that always buy a vehicle and add, not replace items. The black diamond has cool wheels and those 33 mud terrain are perfect for 3 years until they wear out and then you move to 35s and keep the wheels. The bumpers are steel so they will stay. It has a rear locker and those seats are nice.
That looks like lots of fun. I had a 74 bronco I put in places it had no business in. Had a 3.5" lift and 35" procomp XTerrain tires. That thing would go just about anywhere I pointed it. Would be interesting to see how far you can push the new Bronco.
I just took my Bronco 4 door Badlands offroad in the mud five days ago. The alternator is towards the bottom of the engine.Guess what? 24 hours later I lost all power to the vehicle. I was stranded. My hazards wouldn't even work- and I was on a dark road at night. It got mud in it and needs to be replaced. Its 1 month old. My markup was $8995 over. I paid it. You cannot take your bronco in the mud even though it has a mud setting for one of the GOAT modes. Oh and it's not covered under the factory warranty because I should have know not to drive through mud. It's so far costing me $1100.00 and that's after they gave me a break on the labor because they told me they cleaned the alternator and it was fine, then sent me on my way. A mile down the road the Check charging system light came on. Took it back and they ordered the alternator which is backlogged 5 days. FUN TIMES.
I'm really surprised how poorly the brake based traction control system works. Jeep, Toyota, Land Rover, Nissan, etc. all have more aggressive systems to transfer power to the wheels with traction.
Nice video fellas! Base clearly needs a little help with clearance. No big deal, that's the fun part of customizing your rig. The mud hole wasn't a fair fight for the base model. A better driver would have been able to negotiate the deep rut section. C-Love figured that out on his way down. Straddle that rut, don't drive in it. Look forward to the next video
Thank you for giving me the off-road mud review I've been wanting! All the other reviews are of rock crawling. I'm in the South I play in the mud. Thank you
The Bronco failed zero, he can't drive. Doesn't know where the ruts are, literally stops at the most difficult parts, his 9th time would be an experienced persons first
Actually for having street tires on the base model I think it did pretty okay. Just put in my order for one today. Got the base model with the Sasquatch package super stoked about it. Definitely need the lockers. Lol
If they put a leveling kit and nitto ridge grapplers on that base bronco it would be wayyyy better off road. Then really the only difference for offroad capabilities compared to a higher package bronco would be diff lock and sway bar discount. And you can add your own locking diff anyways so the bronco base really is a steel of a deal
you kept talking about lockers and him needing to speed but everytime it was his ground clearance that was stopping him both on the hill and in the mud.
your advice to loosen the pin on the shackle will cause premature stress and potential failure on your shackle. Snug it up and use a tool to loosen it up is the proper technique.
The biggest issue with the base is ground clearance, not so much lockers. That said it's great for those of us that want something to get to the ski area and better handling and mileage.
I love the front bumper & winch on your baby Mitchell. But after driving off-road in a Badlands the other day at a Ford event. I couldn’t imagine blocking that much of front camera though. you can force some of that tire spin to the tire with grip by applying about 50% brake pedal while gassing it.

Wish you guys would have done a comparison with same tires... you can put 35s without a lift that would have been a comparison.. not that this was bad but was hoping to see how the axles/ 4wd acted in a true comparison... it's basically got donuts on it I don't think it has anything to do with the axles
