In this video, I am going to share my 3 favorite non meat related Holiday Side dishes. Wether it is Thanksgiving, Christmas, or just a Holiday gathering with friends these side dishes are amazing. The first is a mashed potato that I have to say might be the best in the world. I would put these mashed potatoes up against anyone. I also include a cranberry relish recipe as well as a delicious Brussel sprout dish. I hope you enjoy theses dishes anytime of year but especially during this Holiday Season.

My holiday side dishes are White half runner green beans with ham bone and bacon grease, homemade cornbread stuffing, and mashed potatoes.

Those brussels look great. I normally do something similar but I like to blanch them first and then put them on a pan face down to brown and crisp up that flat face.

I cook mine. I start with 1# cranberries, add zest of one navel orange along with the juice, and boil on low heat until I see it thickening. Chill and serve. It is not sour or bitter after cooking. It is amazing!

I will be trying the mashed potatoes with my Christmas turkey! The wife might veto the Brussels, but I need to send you a jar of Wegman’s Cranberry Orange chutney (available year round!), I’ve made some great homemade cranberry sauces but for a store brand this one is phenomenal - I even had to send a jar to my brother’s MIL in Louisiana!

I bake potatoes in their skins and rake them out for mashed potatoes.

I want to try all of these recipes. They look delicious. When he drained the cooked potatoes, I didn't see him remove the garlic cloves. Did he?
Just an FYI: the Tyler Florence recipe for these potatoes was published in Business Insider Magazine January 2023 and also in "Country Living Magazine" in March 2017.

The only ingredient you used in these dishes that I do not care for is the mint. I have been making mashed potatoes like yours for years. I saw the recipe on UA-cam. And they are the best mashed potatoes! I don’t mash them until they are like a whipped consistency; don’t mind a few small lumps. Since the heavy cream provides a lot of butter, I don’t add as much butter as I used to when I boiled the potatoes in water. And sometimes I add fresh sautéed garlic and/or spring onions. Yummy! I really enjoy your channel and really enjoy chuck eye steaks. However, one of our 2 grocery stores charges $10 a pound for it. I’ve rarely seen it for $7 and $8 a pound at the other store. Fortunately, I can get 2 - 3 meals out of one because I ask the store butcher to cut them 1 1/2 inches thick. These stores usually only have them if I call and ask for them to cut them. The closest Walmart is a 100 mile round-trip for me. It might be less expensive for me to buy meat there, but not worth the $20 gas price for the trip! I’ve learned a lot from you. So glad you have a YT channel. Thank you! PS: I usually use red potatoes and leave the skins on my potatoes which gives them a consistency that I like, unless I am making them to share with friends who won’t eat potato skins.

The potatoes and cranberries look great. Is there any sort of measurement going on for the cranberries? A pound? 2 pounds?
I actually skipped over the Brussel sprouts as I am not a fan. Hey 2 out of 3 isn't bad. Thank you for the plastic wrap tip. I am new stand mixer owner so I will be using that tip in the future.

Second recipe hurts my lactose intolerant stomach to even hear. It might work with chicken broth. Same principle. And then add butter when mashing.

It does work with chicken broth or other broths/stock; I usually use _some_ sort of flavored liquid with "plain" mashed potatoes if I plan to eat it with gravy, even if it's just some herbs in an infuser. If I plan on loading the potatoes with bacon, cheddar, sour cream, and chives, I make sure to either use a low-sodium/no-sodium added chicken broth or to not use salt at all because often the amount of salt in the bacon and cheddar is enough for me, but either way, salt to taste.

I don't get the hype everyone has with Brussel Sprouts. Yeah it's easy to cook. But I never saw anyone putting cold leftovers aside. It allways landed up in the trash.

Stop blurring your videos for companies that don't send you money. It degrades your channel.
