  • In this video, I am going to show you how I saved $275 on Japanese A5 Wagyu Steaks. I went on MeatnBone.com and purchased a 3+ pound wagyu ribeye roast. I then sliced it with my breaking knife and it ended up saving me lots of money. I was also able to cut it in any thickness I want. Traditionally the wagyu ribeye steaks you get form these online sources are cut very thin in order to keep the price manageable. When you buy in bulk and cut it yourself you can save lots of money.

UPDATE 2024: Butcher Wizard Knife Collection is now available. We have a 10” breaking knife and a 6” boning knife.
    Check it out at butcherwizardshop.com
This is the same style of the knife I used in this video. Over the past 6 months, I have worked hard to make my own collection of knives that everyone who takes on these big butchery projects must have in order to be successful.

I saved twice that by buying chicken instead.

If you saved only twice that buying 3lbs of chicken, you got took worse than he did 😅.
I understand what you're saying, just messing with you.
I now know what I want for my last meal, and that whole 3lbs roast is it 😋. $12 bucks an ounce?!!!
P.S. The brisket on that cow would have to be amazing. How much for the whole cow?😊

I bought a 12 pound Japanese A5 Wagyu from Costco for $880.00 That comes out to $4.583 per oz. I let it thaw just enough that I could force my breaking knife through it cutting 1/2" steaks and immediately vacuum packed it and put it back in the freezer. Like you the end cuts were a bit wonky but nothing goes to waste. We grilled it on a table top grill for Thanks giving where everybody could cook their own to their liking. For Christmas I cooked it on my Komodo Joe. Seared it on an open flame for a bit then put it on the cold side and let it come up to 120 degree's and it was golden. The only thing I put on it was salt and pepper. Like eating a cube of compound butter. Everyone at some point in their like needs to try this wonderful steak! 12 pounds is a lot. we will be eating it for special occasions for at least a year.

I’m sad I don’t see these at my local Costco anymore they’d be $100 for 2 ribeyes and sometimes cheaper when they’d have sales.

I just did this recently. Bought a 4.8lb loin for 410 bucks, trimmed it a bit and got 4.3lb of usable meat. Then separated into 3 steaks. Thought I was a genius, until I realized you made a video on the same thing 3 months ago lol. I will say, by doing this, wagyu is actually "cheap" enough to be a once-every-few-months experience rather than a once-in-a-lifetime experience

I'm sure I'll never buy a piece of steak that costs that much money. I can't say that if someone gave it to me I wouldn't love to try it, but that's too much money for food. I like the videos where you are actually telling us how to save money... like the pork loin videos. I actually bought 2 standing rib roasts and broke them down recently. I got 15 1 inch steaks, about a quart of beef tallow, about 4 lb of ground beef, and 160 oz of beef broth out of it. The steaks are so so... the broth is great. I've fried french fries in the tallow once and wow... what a crispy difference. I'm making burgers this evening from the ground rib roast. I actually bought a 2 lb chuck roast on a good sale that I ground with the ribeye, so... not a perfect ribeye hamburger, but it's going to be good I'm sure.
Keep doing these videos. I've bought 2 pork loins so far. We've been eating pork chops, pork roast, pork... you name it. It's really great and the savings are very real. With the 2 standing rib roasts, I calculated a $65 savings from what was produced at the price I bought it at vs the cost of comparable product... not to mention that the rib roast sold for $8 per pound less than the same ribeye steaks that they were selling - at the store, on the same day! I paid $6.99 per pound. Boneless Ribeye steak was being sold for $14.99 per pound. Yikes!
I brew my own beer, cut my hair over my sink, NEVER use a credit card, have a 10k solar power plant on my roof, have a solar water heater, refuse to pay any interest - EVER. Your videos are right up my alley. Save the best ways that you can and eat well in the process. Learn to cook and be happy.

Costco sells 11 and 12 pound roasts that are on sale periodically. The question I have is what happens to the quality when you have to thaw it to cut it into portions and then refreeze? Because you're not going to eat all that at once. Have you ever done this?

I can appreciate how good it is. Food porn. This would be a nice, planned spurge meal. Generally, beef over $6 a pound isn't even considered for our table. Most times its between $4 to $5. And that needs justified for a special occasion when whole turkeys can be had for .99 cents on sale. And chicken breast is $2.68, skin on thighs is sub.$2. But it nice to see things like this.

yeah we both tried the wagyu a5...2 ribeye's were 186.00 and I cooked it up the best possible way, fearing the whole time thinking to myself , ""OH man, please let me not f**k this up!"" we both had the exact same thoughts about it. WE DID NOT LIKE IT AT ALL...too soft, almost like eating gelatin, too fatty tasting as the meat flavor was too over powered by the stuff that makes wagyu...wagyu! A little crusted around the cap is awesome on the prime or choice cuts, but throughout the meat, definitely not, and we really wanted to say, ""we tried A5 wagyu and loved it"", but NO! We just didn't and would never choose it again.

Makes 0 sense. We buy steak and bitch about too much fat cause you're paying for it and not going to eat it, but we love a little marbling in our ribeyes. Then they slap wagyu on it and list it for $100 an ounce and suddenly I'm supposed to trip all over myself to eat at least 60% fat... nah.

Its more of an experience thing. I had a legit A5 Wagyu Ramen in LA and it was out of this world in flavor. It cost $50 but it was so worth it. I can't say I'd have it all the time though. It was far too rich to be a seasonal thing let alone weekly or daily. I'd for sure get it again though.
