They are a really nice couple. I used to live down the street from them. Me and my mom were taking a walk when Ralph was working outside, and he invited us in to take a tour.
I’m so glad we did, bc it was gorgeous.

I love that drone footage to get to see the stunning roofline. I think this house is so beautiful and it's so nice to see a couple who are giving her their all and aren't out to remodel it.
So many have a dream to buy a cool, old house, but the reality is that very few ever get to see it happen for themselves. Enjoy Rhodes family!

What a beautiful house. I was born and raised in Wichita but have no memory of seeing this house. You must be very proud to own such a gem. Congratulations.

Interesting seeing this again. I believe was originally owned by my great uncle. I recall my father having a news clipping from a Wichita (circa 70's or 80's) that highlighted the residence.

My father Kelley Curry just sent this to me explaining that my great grandmother Hildegarde Riley (Wey) lived here as a child and her father built it. Seeing your last name, we are kin. Hello. 😀

I grew up knowing Mary Anne and Harry Gust when they owned the house in the early 80s and early 90s (for me before I moved away) They sold the house way after I left. Mary Anne was a co-worker with my dad at Boeing and she loved nothing more than to entertain my fantasies of the house and let me run amock and explore. I have been away from Wichita since 1995, so am unsure if the tradition still stands, but during Christmas they used to put on a lavish display of lights and santas waving from the balconies. I can assure you the house is only haunted by good spirits. However as a kid I remember odd marks spaced apart the size of a bed directly in front of one of the windows, dented and almost burnished into the wood floor. Mary Anne told me those marks were from coffins being mounted for funerals and wakes at the home, very customary to the time of course.
Unfortunately somebody during the early 70s or 60s butchered the kitchen and it was an awful mess, so I never saw it to it's full potential.
The carriage house is also just as gorgeous. I remember digging in the backyard and we would find old rusted tools and horseshoes scattered about and buried after all those years. I'll bet those items were probably left at the home for the new tenants to have.
Last and final note, a movie was filmed here in 1980 called The Attic. Take a look and check it out!
I am so happy to see such loving people keep this Wichita treasure alive, and on a personal note an important part of my childhood and father's friend's home alive. They cherised the mansion and knew exactly how lucky they were to have it, just as these folks understand. I hope there is a little girl right now running around and exploring the house to the fullest, as there are still many treasures to uncover.
Link to IMDB of The Attic if anyone has interest.

It’s a beautifully built home. I have tremendous reservation over the interior. Sadly it’s a nightmare of STUFF
