Well, Darcy, I would like to call you an honorary Aussie, we get teased for our penchant for abbreviating names. From Coconut, to Coco, and now Coces, you’re there. Even seasoned sailors need inforamation and lessons concerning how and what to cook while blue water voyaging vs anchor……etc, as well as how to provision! You’ve got the passion and like to have fun which is very appealing! Keep up the great work!

To open mature coconut just tap along the about a quarter way. Down (not too hard ) with large knife or machete a couple of times then it breaks away perfectly use a fork to scrape the coconut meat out (don't scrape too hard) so as not together the dark part of the shell better still buy a coconut scraper from a local. How do I know about scraping coconuts well I spent 5 years in Papua nu Gini. Cheers n beers Marty Qld Australia 39:22

Also, for pineapple, closely slice off the outer skin with a sharp knife. You are left with juicy outer flesh with the "eyes" of the fruit. Those eyes have a spiral pattern from top to bottom. Withe a knife, make a v-shaped cut, following that spiral pattern from top to bottom cutting out the eyes in that one spiral. Repeat for the remaining eyes in several more spiral v-cuts. What reamains is most of the fruit with little waste. Cut from top to bottom in 4 or five wedges and, optionally, slice out the fiber core from each wedge. Hope that helps. Also, a tiny bit of salt sprinkled on pinapple wedges improves it's sweetness and flavor. Enjoy!

Shredding an a coconut of its white flesh--- my wife is from the Philippines and they use a cheap to to make shredded coconut. A 16 inch length of 1/2 in steel rear for concrete. Bend one end down 3 inches from that end at a 90 degree angle. Sharpen that bent end to a point that will be hammered into a board later. The other end, hammer it flat so that end is circular. Grind the circular area to be thin. Use the grinder or saw to fashion sharp steel teeth. That is your tool. Hammer the pointy end into a seat with the round teeth pointing out parallel to the ground. Take half of a ripe coconut and scrape the white flesh on the teeth of the tool. Repeat for the other half of the coconut. Hope that helps.

It's called a "Chi Chi" if you use vodka! Also, yummy, but rum is superior; Pina Colada. You'll want to add something sweet like coconut syrup (when available). there is a simple reason why mono's and cats swing differently . its the windage compared to depth of the hull , cats will almost always point into the wind and mono's will point into the current. never anchor to close to a mono cats being lighter will always take worse damage in a collision.

    • @sailing.supernova

I prefer not to spice hummus, or use much oil. I think those should be used when serving it. It's really nice when oil is just on top as distinct taste as are the toppings which you can do to your taste. You could ise same hummus to do multiple flavors.

@@sailing.supernova Thank you for that. I've been looking for another good heavy duty machine. I will have to look into that machine; it looks really nice. I have a Singer Imperial 7005 from the early to mid 1970's. It will run right through up to five layers of nylon webbing straps as long as I can slide it under the foot and get the tension set proper.

@@sailing.supernova It appears that my reply disappeared. Anyway. Thank you for that information. I will have to check out that machine. I've been looking for another heavy duty machine. I'm not a fan of the ocean, but I love your channel.

To break the coconut in half easily, after husking, use the back of a cleaver and crack it all around the middle. If done properly, it should crack like an egg. @ontheendzadventurecooking5329 has a short video on how to open a jelly coconut with a swiss army knife. He also shows how to clean a pineapple. Cheers.

Very sorry we missed that, not sure how, He made it so we could see our AIS targets on our chart plotter. We had been trying to do it for a while but we could not get it to work, John got it down in about 7 seconds haha. We talk about it a bit more in the video from 2 weeks ago when we were sailing back to the dock :-)
Sorry again for our mistake of not showing it.
