HOW TO SET UP & USE NIDECKER SUPERMATIC BINDINGS

- Available Fall 2022, the Nidecker Supermatic bindings are the first snowboard bindings that offer automatic entry any boot and can still be used as a single-piece two-strap binding.
In order to get the most from Nidecker Supermatic step in snowboard bindings, it's important to set them up correctly for your snowboard boot:
- Start by locking the heel pedal all the way down with the highback in its upright riding position - listen for the clicks as you do so. Loosen the strap on both sides and place your boot into the binding.
- Align the ankle strap so that it sits centrally over your boot. Lock the inner ladder into place, then adjust the ratchets so that it’s snug, but not too tight. Do the same for the toecap strap.
- Now attach the middle ladder and fit it so that there’s a slight gap between it and the boot. Its function is to keep the straps in place, and it’s important that it’s not tight or sitting against the boot.
- Once the straps are fitted, click down the Locking Slap Ratchets to keep them in place and save your settings. If you can see the red markers, the ratchets aren’t secured yet.
- Finally, remove your boot from the binding by pressing down on the release lever, raising your heel and sliding your foot out. Now you’ll be able to slide your boot back into the binding and lock it into place. The Slip ‘n’ Grip plates on the footbed and highbacks, as well as the heelcup roller, make this easy in any snow conditions, and the ExoFrame straps ensure that snow doesn’t build up in the binding.
- If you want more heelside response, you can add forward lean to the hiback by using the mechanism on the rear of the hiback.
- To use the Nidecker Supermatic step in snowboard binding, just slide your foot in, toe first, then press down with your heel, and the hiback will lock shut automatically. There are three points of engagement in the mechanism, ensuring it will lock shut securely. If there’s any snow build up, you may have to clear out the area underneath the heel pedal, just as you would clear snow out from the footbed of a traditional binding.
- When you’re on steep or uneven terrain, or in super deep snow, you might prefer to use the bindings like a traditional two-strap, which is perfectly possible using the ratchets as normal.
- Whilst you’re skating or getting on a lift, it is best to fold the highback down towards the toe edge of the board. Then when you want to get back into the binding, simply flick the highback back up and put your foot in as normal. - Спорт

Malcolm. Please review them, I'm 50 this year and have some back issues, these could be perfect but can you get them nice and tight? I prefer pow riding it I have the chance. Also, I can't find how much these will be in the uk.
Currently ride the Warpig with Ride LTD bindings. I like the bindings but they are on the heavy side.

This is actually what SNOWKITERS have been waiting for... Got Flow and Fastec, and it's still so cumbersome to secure your bindings with the kite above your head. Really hope this is the answer to that!

WOW !!!! That's dare I say... An industry changer :O Makes everything in the market look unnecessarily specialized or obsolete... All universal, all the benefits of a traditional binding, none of the known drawbacks of any existing step in/on/rear-entry... Bloody well done.
Only concern might be there are a lot of components and moving parts. So durability and rigidity of the mechanism over time will decide it's future.
Fortunately we now have a review of someone who's been using them for 6 weeks, almost daily I believe. Check out Malcolm Moore's review of these. Seems like the future where you won't find snowboarders sitting in snow at every piste start is coming sooner than expected.

I have old school k2 similar to this except like flows you really needed to strain to open and close them. I like the lock on these which my k2s always loosened up.
Waiting for Angry snowboarder's review. Like he said, this isn't going to be for everyone, but it will help some people enjoying snowboarding more.
I have been riding Burton Step On's for 3 years and they made snowboarding painless for me again. Really excited to see innovations for snowboarding, no matter where it came from.

@@WaterfallWhispering How would you say the stiffness is compared to traditional strap-in bindings? I’m stuck between these 2 because I heard the supermatics have a soft-medium stiffness while the clews have medium stiffness.
@@jason2live190 honestly once your in them, I could tell a difference between the clews and my old burton bindings. They feel the same. Just faster to get in and out

Can they accommodate size 14 boots. Ride tried telling me their bindings would work and soni bought them and found out they arent ideal.
Great design, but how long the moving parts are going to last? Moving parts are easier to break...

just got these, excited to finally have step-ins. These things are ideal if you put them on only on flat terrain or of you have a very narrow stance. The binding will hold you in place. But even with a week of practice, everyone in my crew was sitting strapping in, and ready to go before me. I don't recommend these to anyone.

I think they’ll work. Just a different way to get secured into a binding. Some will like it, some won’t. I like my flows for the reason I don’t have to get on my ass. But do often get on one knee. Trade offs…

How is this compare to sp slabone?
My only concern with these is the height of the binding, even with the high back tilted forward. Looks like it will snag on lifts with little clearance? I have Flow NX2 Hybrids and these look like they've taken the best parts of that system and refined it. Can't wait to try them out
They are no higher than a standard binding when folded down :)

Depends on the boot volume...12 is over the recommended size range for the L. You'll probably best off waiting until Fall 2023 for the XL size.

Having owned a pair of rear entry bindings, I’m pretty sure you can’t crank your straps down enough for the proper leverage needed for riding (especially if you’re on the aggressive carve side of riders). If you do tighten the ratchets with serious Freeride riding in mind for example, I believe the entry is not gonna be as easy as it looks on these promotional videos (in fact they advice you to give ‘em just a couple of clicks). If you’re an aggressive carver, freerider or even a freestyler that demands power and edge to edge responsiveness, you’ll find yourself stepping in with semi-loose straps, cranking them down during the first meters of your run, and releasing a couple of clicks before stepping out. I’m not gonna get these on paper, I’ll try and demo them next season, then I can decide.

You can find a video on UA-cam from some chinese guy and he tightened it pretty hard and the entry still seems easy
I have had the chance to use these. You can crank them very tight and get in and out. Very impressed. We’re are getting these for our shop.
You are totally on point. I have the same issue with my old model Flow binding - the strap will not lift when I open the highback. In those promotional video, if you look very carefully (99% of people wouldn't do that), the straps are very loose so they can make the entry extremely easy.
@@yanqichen2245 so if you looked closely, you'll also see that when you release the bindings it pushes the top strap up creating a bigger hole. They're not the same as flows where you'll have that tight hole to shove your boot in. It widens up for you
Hmmm, sounds like you don't ride Flows much, they aren't meant to be ridden super tight as the leverage comes from the one-piece strap design and the cable. The Nasty system has solved a lot of the entry issues. Still, that style isn't for everyone, though a lot of carvers do like the NX2 series. These Supermatics OTOH don't have the traditional power triangle cable, so I'm not convinced they'll ride the same way.
Own a pair of flow nx2 and just sprained my forearm from pulling the high back closed too many times. Super interested in these.
Attach a strap (cord, dongle) to latch for better leverage.
Wow you must be doing it wrong to make it too tight to close or not set up right. I have ridden them for 15 years and have never managed that. You are meant to push forward in your shins before snapping shut.

I bought the XL's, and have a 13 burton boot. The heels of my boots are SWIMMING in the XL which is the recommended size. It slides around in the binding and lifts out. It's too late now for me, I have to put on my old bindings and head out to CO.
Sorry you've had this issue. When it comes to other brand's boots, the recommended sizes become a guide because every brand will have a different design philosophy when it comes to outsole sizes.
Contact whoever you bought the Supermatics from and they should be able to do a swap to an L.
That is so weird, I have the XLs and an 11.5 boot and it fits perfectly. Just rode them 2 weeks straight in Japan and they are awesome. I have Nidecker boots, so I can’t comment on Burton.

My foot size is 230mm, but it's hard to put my foot in and take it out. Is there an easier way to put your feet in and out?
Have you tried on the mountain or just at home? The optimal use case is outside on snow where the slipperyness/wetness of the snow should aid getting in and out :)
@@NideckerSnowboards hi there, I am experiencing some issues too.. if I make em just few clicks. it is all okstepping in/out, but then my back foot when carving little harder is moving slightly in the bindings- so it is pretty annoying.. but then if I crank em hard. then I have real trouble getting in/out- mainly IN. any advice ? boot 41/supermatics M size. Thank U
@@jirimudrunka7995 Have you got the middle strap too tight? If so, put it on it's loosest setting.
No toe and heel side adjustment though? Also, some European lifts are so low that even when the high back is folded down, the seat might hit the high back based on the video.
There is plenty of flex. No lift I've ever been on is going to break the highback unless you have it fully upright. Also like most bindings you can place the disc in multiple orientations and it is offset - so yes you can use it to correct for heel and toeside overhang.
Can you buy one only,? I mean why carry the extra weight of having 2 when you only really want the step on for your back foot.

I have wide fit boots. They won’t slide in and the heel pedal won’t lock. Really disappointing and dangerous.
It annoys me that the model gets doesn't move their pants out of the way of the binding strap.

Not enough forward lean funny enough with Nidecker boots(older model), strap too big, heavy, release is harder especially on steep, than normal binding, step in as described

Goddamn. Over and over again.. where any highback rotation setting? Why all brand ignore it on step in bindings? Just make a two-piece highback and solve the problem...
Flow/Nidecker use to have some minimal adjustment for this, but have been gravitating towards these one piece designs lately.
The amount of steps is already a failure.
Major issues that I can see right away: 1. You have to be very gentle with them or they will break. 2. Can't tighten the straps ? WTF ? If you can't tighten the straps why do you need this mechanism ?

@@tkunz1971 I have tested most bindings on the market and most of them broke. Even the most rigid ones... That is why I can't imagine how these would not break... They look too weak.
@@ThinLineMedia exactly! Bindings definitely break. Even brand new ones. There are a lot of moving parts on these guys. I definitely see some things that could go wrong as well. Again, these will work for 75% of riders who only ride two to three times a season and think pow is too hard to ride. For the others who would actually put these to the test I think the outcome will be no better than the best Flow bindings you can buy and have been able to go buy for some time. As a company I get it. Come out with something for the masses and this will sell for sure. Real riders are not so easily fooled. The feedback tech integrated in these is completely obvious. The smooth surface on the footbed is obviously from people complaining that it's difficult to get in and out of Flow bindings while ratcheted down more than "Snug". As well as that roll bar thing. All new tech to slide the foot in easier than previous Flow bindings.
@@thedude5510 I will say that with my flows you do have to keep them a bit loose to get in and out easy, but they also don't push the top strap upward like these do, making the opening bigger than my flows
@@roodiger this looks to be true with the Supermatic design. I would really have to try them. I only base my opinion off of past experience, but I am a rider who ratchets down hard. The Burton Step Ons have no real adjustment when they click in. They are 100% locked into that setting every time. The only thing I guess that could be called a different setting is if you don't completely lock in. Which in not what you want to do on the heels. That's all I'm saying. These again sound awesome in theory, just like Flows did at the time. I feel like they're just alternatives to Flows, but the Step On system is completely brand new in design and looks to actually be a true step on / plug and play that works extremely well.
That's a really weird system. Burton did the best.
@KINGDOM MT I've spent a powder week this year in Serbia, Kopaonik. Did so much freeride. Step On was my best experience ever. I want nothing instead them.
I've got 20+ days with the burton step-ons this year. It's the perfect binding for me even on powder or anywhere else.
I think this has more pros and less cons than the Burton Step ons. You have only used the Burtons so probably a little biassed in a comparison. At least these work with any boot.
Burton is Step-on is cool but none of the boots that are compatible (that I've tried) fit my foot shape. Supermatic is great because you can use any boot.
These are ill advised. They have problems with jamming up at the bottom of every run. So you saved time at the top but youre tiring yourself out at the bottom bent over trying to press on the jammed lever. I got them after hours of research vs the burton step ins. I ignored the bad reviews and should have gone burton. You wont get any help from their support either, over the course of 4 days ive received 1 email. And 3 promises to get back to me. Let them fix the issues theyre having first. Then the value will be there.
Hey, Thanks for the comment. We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble releasing your Supermatics. When you’re getting out of the bindings using the quick-release lever, it’s best to be on flat snow - or if this isn’t possible, face down the hill with your weight over your heel edge. Always press the button BEFORE starting to lift your boot out.

I know I’m late to the party but glad I saw this comment. I was considering these for my second board. I have Burton Step Ons for my primary but wanted a strap for my backup. Might just stay with Step Ons for the backup too. 😅

Bad copy of CLEW. haha
I would say it’s a pretty good copy. No need take off the piece that attaches to your boot every time you go ride and go home. It can be used like a traditional binding which is always good for back up. The locking mechanism seems more safe and easier to know if it is locked in.
This isn't a bad or a good copy of CLEW. It isn't anything like the CLEW binding whatsoever. Lol.

I just think, as with all flow bindings, that you can not tighten them. The leverage always works only when the ankle strap is not quite tight.
@@lukasshreddy1401 I get where you’re coming from. I’ve used my cousins flow bindings and it was a struggle at first playing around with the tightness. But with the flow bindings you usually use your hands to push a piece up which makes it hard. But the thing I like about these is that you just need step down on them. Yes, try them and let me know how they are. Planning to get new bindings for next season and these seems pretty good so far. I just hope they don’t break the bank.

This is obviously not going to be better than the Burton Step Ons. The fact that they suggest to you to not ratchet down too tight means a less responsive binding. Which might be great for some riders but not for more aggressive riders or people in general who like to ratchet down securely. These are Flows with a sound effect. Not impressed. If you waste money on these you're doing exactly that.
they mentioned that you can use it as the traditional two straps binding, so i think the responsive is there. Not ratcheting down too tight is for the side strap, which does't add any responsive to the binding. The side strap is for relieving the heel strap pressure.

@@keitonguan862 incorrect. That is how you set them up, and they specifically say after you lock all the ratchets and cams your settings are ready to go now. Hinting that you don't ratchet down any further after they're set. Also, if you know what these are you know that this locking ratchet system is directly off of flows bindings. Actually ratcheting or using these continuously will wear out the locking mechanism. So the longevity of the binding if used in the traditional sense (which defeats the entire purpose of the binding) is flawed in the long run. If you have ever ridden flows, the concept is awesome, but for riders who ratchet down hard these will never be able to just plug and play. Hence why these will not be better than the step ons. The step ons offer immediate response, a very locked in feeling. These are for people who would buy something like a Clew bindings or someone who is pretending these are not Flow bindings. The idea is awesome, and for the average rider these sound and look great on video. They're definitely not game changing.

@@tkunz1971 it's funny how a brain works isn't it? If you have ridden flows then you know that these are flows with a small difference. I also watched the video and it literally says to not ratchet down hard, just snug. Just like Flows, you have to ratchet down more after you're in. Unless you like to ride pretty loose, then it's not an issue. I'm not saying they don't work. Flows work just fine, and these will as well. I'm just saying it's obvious they won't be better than a system like the Burton Steps Ons where your foot is completely locked in without any option of play except for the heel if there is user error and you're not completely locked in. I know you want to think these are game changing. Nidecker wants you to think that as well. Buy them! Lol

@@Santi27Crip I do not believe that number just because they purposefully say to leave the straps kinda loose. Even if it's a stiff biding, with this system it'll be soft.
