Something that most people don't know about. It took them a little over a year to perfect that skit. Then, when it aired for the first time in 1938 they got a call at the studio from the president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who congratulated them both on a skit that was very well done.
You caught on fast! There are some who never understand and think Abbot doesn't know the names of his players. As kids back in the day we'd seen it all our lives so I feel I always knew. In elementary school we watched Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, and Charlie Chaplin in the auditorium on heavy rain days. Good memories
One of the greatest comedy teams in history. They were huge back in the 1930s- early 50s. Started in theatre and radio then went into movies. In the 40s they were the highest paid comedians in the business. Later they migrated into TV when it was just starting out. A lot of their stuff is on youtube.
It's even more genius when you realize how many times they've done this skit and it's fresh each time. Rapid-fire come backs, body language, facial expressions. No one else competes.
Check out 13X7=38 by Abbott and Costello. If you are wondering the short guy with the bat is Lou Costello and The Manager of the baseball team is Bud Abbott.
I grew up listening to Abbot and Costello and as a child these guys were hysterical, as an adult they are still hysterically funny! Great reaction young man! Thank you for letting me watch!
Abbott & Costello were one of the best comedy duos ever. You should watch some of their movies. They're hilarious. It wouldn't be anywhere near as funny without Lou Costello's hilarious facial expressions and body language. He gets so wound up you can't help but laugh.
Abbott and Costello, Who’s On First, is in the baseball Hall of Fame, runs continuously. Some considering it the best comedy sketch ever written, and so do I.
2:16 you're like enjoying this for the longest time and then you caught-on too. Then it gets from nice-enjoyable and you trip-over Funny. Nice!!.-Ernie Moore Jr.
If you like that when you got to do seven times 13 equals 28 the way they run that Costello would have made a damn great Hustler on the side of the street you know what I mean
Abbot and Costello did this skit 1000's of times over the course of their career. It is on continuous loop at the Baseball Hall of Fame. I have laughed at this every time over the past 60 years since seeing them on TV as a 6 year old.
You really should watch the complete to script version, featured in A&C’s flick, “The Naughty Nineties”. In this version, from their 1950’s TV show, Lou is constantly making “errors”, & Bud is doing a terrific job trying to get his partner back on track. (BTW… “Booby Barber” was Lou’s making fun of the man who gave him the bat & cap, whose name was Bobby Barber! Barber was a close friend of the duo, & was featured in so many of their flicks, & episodes of this series. They would also hire him as a sort of a “court jester”, to help keep their film shoots fun, & he would put himself into various scenes, creating some pretty good outtakes! (The outtakes & other version of this classic bit are definitely available on UA-cam.) Enjoy! 😁
Maybe. But I can envision some VR world where people come to watch actual people acting live, doing improv or comedy routines like this from memory, but in the virtual world. Art is not going to die, it will change. I think AI will likely bring a new appreciation for human meaning. Just watching people understand art from the 15th century shows the symbolism and meaning that you or I may be missing, and AI will never see. Which will make it a way we will likely become used to as a species, as we begin to mock, as children do, the one thing "the robots among us" will never be able to "get". They can track our faces and read our emotions and such, but will not "get" the joke, or understand the fact that is does not get the "meaning" of something. And that will make us laugh.
@@Krackonis On UA-cam there are already kids of this generation keeping it alive. They are good too but nothing beats the original. Great art never dies as you said. Thanks for the reminder.

When you really stop and think about it, its''s a lame joke, but the speed and timing of the exchange and just the way they sell it, is what makes it so great. I don't think anyone else could do it justice.
Agree, when you view this separately it's lengthy and a bit repetitious. But they didn't make it separate. It's part of one of Abbott & Costello show's half an hour episodes & it fits wonderfully there given how Abbott trolls Costello.
They were amazing! Glad you hung in there & got it. I remember one where Abbott trying to teach Costello how to drive or park, & keep sayin ‘go ahead & back up’!😆 Of course Costello be buggin out! Check Purple Rain, Prince’s movie, for a similar much shorter skit with Morris Day & his spike kick, Jerome discussing a password. Great reaction! 👍🏾

This comedic genius has been inducted in the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Unbelievable comedy from two comedic legends.
And that is the only time anything like that has ever happened. It had never happened before and it hasn't happened since - not in ANY Hall of Fame.
The sketch is on display at the Hall, played on perpetual loop.
This is so cool seeing this generation of youth appreciate a classic.
Unfortunately, some don't get it.
