    Thank you so much for the video. You saved me probably $250 for a call to a repairman. My dryer was not quite like your, but your information about the cause and greasing up the bearing did the trick.
    thanks

    Thanks much for you informative vid. The whining problem w my dryer began a couple weeks ago when my wife inadvertently wife dropped two ant traps down the lint trap. My guess is there has to be a turbine at the bottom to throw lint onto the lint screen. Well, these plastic ant trap were sitting against the turbine and the whine was incredible. Of course I did not know the prob was that and I took the entire dryer apart to track down the source of the whine. Well, your good instructions helped me disassemble and reassemble the dryer, the first in my life, and after removing the ant traps and a couple-three handfuls of the worst piles of dirt and dust I have ever seen in one spot the dryer is back to running and sounding like new. Again, thanks Ed. Couldn't have done it without you.

    Also, good shot on rerouting the belt after reassembly. That was MOST helpful.

    My dryer is squeaking badly. I think cleaning and re-greasing bearings usually doesn't last nearly as long as new ones. I think I'm going to the parts store before I even take the dryer apart and get the kit that has both support rollers and the tensioner pulley with the bracket. I'll probably find only one bad part out of three. I'll put the other two that are still working on the shelf in case the replacement set ever goes bad. But I'll probably be in a nursing home or dead by then.

    Well done Ed! Finally someone shows the machine running before and after repair,genius! Curious why idler puller is moving at all really,shoudnt they pretty much not move back and forth?Or just compensating for pulleys and rear seal movement as a design feature? Anyhow,Im going to tune up my machine,belts,pulley's,idler arm,seals and must say,yours is a good resource video.Thank you!

      In this case the main pin should remain stationary. It is inside a metal sleeve that rotates. (Lubrication should be applied between the metal pin and metal sleeve.) That metal sleeve should be fixed with respect to inside the plastic pulley. The metal sleeve moved. (It probably got hot due to lack of lubrication.) That allowed the plastic to bind against the metal bracket locking down the central pin against the sleeve, producing the squeak.

      As I can't repair my squeaky dryer myself, what should I tell a repair man when I call them. I want to show them that I know what is wrong with it without them telling me its allot of other problems.

      Keep in mind, on some review of parts, especially on Amazon,...there are lots of poor quality parts, and people were doing the job again just 2 weeks later! So I bought good quality parts and they weren't cheap!

      I'm going to have service my dryer soon I have a minor noise developed oh about a month or so ago it's more like a small chirp like squike it's so low at this point you can hear it over the dryer but if the washer is running and door to laundry room is closed you cant hear it so at this point in waiting.
      Serves 4 people plus any guest that come over 3 - 4 beds a week plus any blankets used on the sofa I like clean fresh bedding if it can go in the wash it gets washed
      I have washable floor bath mats and shower curves and mats at front and back door also washed weekly
      Plus laundry from everyone in the house. So I can do anywhere from 10- 20 loads a week. I also have family members that have a washer that went down or don't have a washer at all and instead of going to a laundromat uh the thought of dirty machines. I let them use my machins.
      So my machins have high work load.
      I have a new 2017 speedqueen top loader replacer a 2000 maytag washer and I have a 2010 whirlpool cabrio dryer replaced a maytag dryer.

    We replaced our idler pully, belt and two of the rollers. Removed the other two and removed the hair and lint that was causing them not to run smoothly. The dryer still squeaks/chirps. So annoying. Do I need to grease the rollers or maybe the felt seal is too worn?

      My noise was coming from the metal pin rotating in the metal bracket. The pin must not rotate.

    Hi Ed. Great video. I also have an old Kenmore dryer that refuses to quit. I would be very curious to know what model# that you have. I think mine was manufactured in 1981 or 82. Thanks Ed.👍 It looks like your dryer was manufactured in 1970, where mine was from 1982. Boy, these were sure built to last! I still have the original idler pulley, if you can believe it. Sorry I took so long to update my comment. Have a great day.

    Okay, thanks, great vid, very helpfull...the first thing l usually break is the first thing l try...how do you get the front access panel off the dryer without breaking it so it replaces at the finish?

    • @EdHumble
      @EdHumble  5 років тому +1

      aaron4wilkins
      The lower front panel should open just like mine. Two springs clips at the top corners. If there is no lower panel, you’ll have to open the top, then the front. I’d look on the parts sites for videos of your manufacturers dryer. Appliance Parts Pros has lots of such videos.

      Obviously I can't say without seeing it, but use a piece of thin cardboard about 2" wide to locate the TOP retaining clips. After you locate those, use a medium blade flat screwdriver to pry out just below the clip.

      I already had these from doing a transmission job. $28.00 each. This method works without a bench vice.
      Lineman's Pliers will work when used in a bench vice: www.walmart.com/ip/Eclipse-9-1-2-Linemans-Pliers-902-307/25061912 $21.77
      The snap ring pliers are a specialty tool I had to buy to rebuild a transmission. The average home owner will NEVER use this tool. It is a highly specialized tool for Industrial and automotive use.
      Every home owner should have Lineman's pliers.
      Here is the part repaired in the video: www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-Whirlpool-Maytag-Kenmore-Estate-Admiral-Dryer-Idler-Pulley-691366/121828258025?_trkparms=aid%3D555019%26algo%3DPL.BANDIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150817211623%26meid%3D5874e511353640e7a4bfde5bc74c90be%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D121828258025&_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226 $6.57 +$2.00 Shipping

    Poor maintenance on done here. Cleaning out the lint and dust is very important otherwise it will trap on bearing. If cleaning the bearing doesn't work install a new one and use motor oil. No wd-40

    • @EdHumble
      @EdHumble  2 роки тому

      The “Bearing” is just the plastic wheel on the metal shaft. Your point on maintenance is totally valid, but it is a rare person that thinks to do this maintenance. I wound up replacing mine a year after this video was made. It’s Been running quiet ever since.

      But yes, take it out, clean it up, check for wear, lube it and reinstall. If it still squeaks, order a new one from eBay for less than $10 and you’ll be all set for another 60 years.
