Bunch of armchair contractors here. I'm a licensed general contractor in two states, I've specialized in finish carpentry for the last 10 years. I. Am. Damned. Good. I can't fault this guy. thanks for the content. we're remodeling a house and have used your videos for pretty much every project we encounter. What's great is we don't search for this channel specifically. It's just that Jeff and his son seem to come up for everything. We search plumbing, flooring, drywall...whatever...and there he is. Much appreciated!
I really enjoy your videos! We are new home owners and I found you before we closed on our house. I was looking up painting. All of my friends ask, "Why aren't you taping?" All I have to say is, "Because you don't need to if you know how to cut." And they stop asking questions. Looking forward to putting in a pocket door in what will be our nerd office! Thank you!
Great Work. Its so refreshing to see someone do the job right, explain it in detail, and when encountering issues and flaws in previously done work not turn it into a opportunity to grandstand.
I’ll admit about a year ago I was looking for a video to show me how to build a outdoor shed. I watched all 3 video from start to finish. Then every video you put out so far. For no reason really. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The trick where you cut the studs and pull them out to not damage the drywall on the other side is HUGE!!!! I have textured drywall and I was able to do this with very limited repair. Amazing! I used this in my basement bathroom video on my channel.
Honestly I am getting to the point that I think I need to put a sign out front with your name on it as an assistant to my reno job! I watch a ton of videos but it is always yours that helps the most. You always explain every step so a novice can understand. THANK YOU!
You are, by far, my favorite resource for all my diy projects. you have no idea how much you have helped me to know what's important and what isn't. Everything is straight forward and easy to understand! keep it up - oh this is 6 years old! hah... well I guess you have kept it up!
Thanks so much for this video! After watching it I was able to install a pocket door in our small water closet over the weekend! AND was able to save the outside drywall when removing studs. That even allowed me to repurpose the studs I took out when reframing the pocket door. Excellent info, very DIY/Novice friendly. After watching this, I damn near looked like I knew what I was doing.
I will say I didnt cut the stud out with a reciprocating saw. I used my oscillator with a nail blade and went behind/above/below the studs and cut the nails, this allowed me to salvage the whole stud for reuse.
Great video! Do you by chance recall what brand frame and rollers this was? The click in option seems much easier to work with than the spring loaded. Thanks

Thinking of tackling this project on a wall where I'm not sure is load bearing. I'm not as confident as you are to begin removing studs without the fear of having the ceiling cave in? Is that a legitimate fear? Are there any precautions I can take to support the wall as I'm installing the pocket door or should I figure out a way to provide temporary support while I do the install? Thanks!
We have the pocket already ,but hung a new door and seems to heavy and gets stuck a lot. Is there a certain weight door we need? Or need better sliding track hardware? Specific one to recommend? Thanks!
Some critical comments regarding safety below. First of all great video, one of the best I've seen. Safety is a personal issue. How you take on a project is up to you. The way you work I thought was very safe, not like a bull in a china shop but controlled with the right tools for the job - there is your safety straight away. Gloves were not necessary as some suggest, if anything would more likely reduce skill level and or tactileness that could lead to possible injury defeating the object. I am a great advocate of safety glasses but I didn't see any grinders going for this job so again not totally necessary with the reciprocating saw - if using a multi tool then yes you would wear safety glasses. Anyway very clear video with a good demonstration on efficiency, safe working and alround neat, clean workmanship. Keep up the good work.

Great video! I never seen you do anything stupid on your videos. I totally agree about that old header. It was probably what they had on hand when framing. Your sheetrock on hall ceiling on another video is genius!
Pocket doors...... always a receipt for woe down the road. They always fall off the track or sag and are a bear to fix. I've installed this version of pocket door and the walls wiggle and people always want to put picture hooks here and end up scratching the door. Pocket doors really require extra thick wall depth. If you don't have that consider a sliding barn door set up. The track is accessible and easy to service. Granted this might not suit the house style, but I've had much better luck with these.
I hate pocket doors!! I have one I have been fighting for years in our master bedroom.. thanks for the video. I need to do what you are doing - replace my p-door.
The large pry bar you used that looked like a wrench, what is it called? I found a universal wrecking tool that looked very similar, but I wanted to ask in case I was wrong. We put in a pocket door a year ago, but thought we should refresh our memory by watching a video. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for posting!
This video and many others are very informative thanks for adding the do's and don'ts I want to have a pocket door on a very small bathroom in a condo do you think that is possible? There is a washer dryer hook up on one side of the wall .
I'm a little confused. Jeff mentions putting up temporary bracing to support the potential load-bearing wall and then proceeds to cut out all the existing support. Aren't you supposed to put up the temporary support before removing the existing support? Was that part just not shown? I do see some studs in there diagonally later when he's putting the pocket door in. Not sure if that's it and just wasn't shown.
I'm planning to install a pocket door in a bathroom remodel between the hall powder room and the new Jack & Jill bath area. I'm tiling the floor and using the Schluter Ditra system to waterproof and uncouple. How in the world can I waterproof under the pocket door?
"we like to do things safely and efficiently" says the man who is always using power tools without eye protection, just giving you a hard time pal lol good video

I hate pocket doors!! I have one I have been fighting for years in our master bedroom.. thanks for the video. I need to do what you are doing - replace my p-door.
It's funny how the helper says "level" when is not🤣, great video tho very helpful 👊

Any suggestions as to where I might find said ‘true to size’ pocket door frame in the Ottawa area?
This video and many others are very informative thanks for adding the do's and don'ts I want to have a pocket door on a very small bathroom in a condo do you think that is possible? There is a washer dryer hook up on one side of the wall .
Great video. Thanks for the information. I was wondering what the name of the brand you used for the pocket door frame and track? Thanks again
Watching this at 0.5 times is amazing, it's like drunk DIY
lol
Ha ha. I watch them all at 1.5 times. What would you compare that with?
Spacewolf Jr. 😂😂
great video, your a realist! very easy to follow on instructions !
Question HR, I have heart wood pine on outside wall. what is your best advice to remove studs??/

I'm planning to install a pocket door in a bathroom remodel between the hall powder room and the new Jack & Jill bath area. I'm tiling the floor and using the Schluter Ditra system to waterproof and uncouple. How in the world can I waterproof under the pocket door?
Came for the door install, stayed for the comical humor. Good job
Awesome I like to use a grinder with metal blade easier to control just makes sparks so only drawback
"we like to do things safely and efficiently" says the man who is always using power tools without eye protection, just giving you a hard time pal lol good video
