Another great video rob 👍 I like these videos as I’m looking to come over to the U.K. possibly next season for my first pheasant day so I need all the advice I can get I’d be looking at the Devon area
One phrase I would mention is "Wood-to-Metal, and not Metal-to Wood" i.e. the method of closing your gun, as taught by coaches, is to lift your stock up whilst keeping your barrels pointing to the ground rather than lifting your barrels as is often seen on clay grounds ( where there should be an absolute safe no-person zone. ) The reason being that in the event, however unlikely, of a broken/stuck firing pin the gun is pointing at mud a few feet in front of you if it fires due to the fault rather than anywhere to your front - where there could be someone within shot. Being seen to be safe shows other guns that you are thinking safe, just like opening your gun as you unsleeve it / close the gun as you sleeve it.
@ thought you where a high pheasants extreme guy they killed grouse really well on the beaters/keepers day I originally got them for and still using the info try other brands admittedly but see to go back too the zeniths
As a novice just starting out, i enjoy your videos and am learning lots from them. Would you be able to do a video on lead, shooting various targets, clays, wood pigeon etc? I either find myself too far in front or just behind even though i run the gun through the target. Appreciate any thoughts on this Cheers Mike
Brilliant to hear your starting out bud and glad you’re enjoying the channel! 👍 I did one video a while back which was about how much lead when shooting corvids which might help but I will plan to do a more in depth one to try and help you and others 👍👍
I would suggest that ,as a novice ,if you want to shoot safely you get some tuition on safe gun handling - the BASC does some excellent courses. Methods of gun handling in this video are unsafe
@andrewshilton I know safe gun handling, ive been around guns my whole life as my dads been shooting 60 odd years. I'm only a novice in respect of shooting itself.
@@mikeygti8930 glad to hear it .I can only manage 50 odd years of gun handling , and some of the things you see on UA-cam these days are frightening, and seem to be coming accepted as normal. I hope you enjoy many safe days game shooting -there is nothing quite like the feeling standing on a peg n a crisp autumn morning waiting for that first bird. Good luck
Another great video Rob, very informative. Been clay shooting for about 2 years and considering getting into game shooting so the information is very helpful. Out of curiosity how many cartridges do you normally go through on a game day? Cheers 👍
Offer to go beating a few times to get an idea of what happens on that side before taking a peg. You will be less of a newbie and will appreciate the basics of the day more.
I have watched all of your videos, I can see how passionate you are about fieldsports, you do a great job keep it up👍👍one thing that i cant help noticing is that you have put on a few pounds! Is it all the shoot lunches you eat or too many Colin the Catippilers? Or is it the famous air fryer lunches at Coombe Farm Sporting?
Great informative video, had my license about 2 weeks applied after watching your videos and some other UA-camrs. That was a stew with a lid though, not a pie 🙊😂
🤔 not keen on your comments about tipping Rob. I've been keepering for almost 40yrs now. Every shoot day is the culmination of a year's hard work for the keeper. Yes, we all have good days and bad days but that's game shooting. I've shot on many days myself where I've been either out of the shooting or had a day where I couldn't hit them ( we all have them). Would never enter my head not to tip at the end of the day.!
Please don’t get me wrong bud, I’ve had days where I’ve been out of the shooting or the birds have been too good for me and I have tipped well because I’ve still had an amazing day! One day I had out, we didn’t see a single bit of game and there was no hospitality even though we was told there was so I didn’t tip.. which I think was right to do and I’m sure many others would have done the same! Wasn’t going to mention tipping as I know it is a very controversial subject but I’m sure many beginners will appreciate it. sorry to be the man to talk about it Paul, didn’t mean to offend anyone 👍
@fieldsportswithspeed quite agree, if you'd paid for a day and saw no game then that's ok. Just for the record, I wasn't offended, but thought another point of view would be worth a mention.
We selected the best but we need to support shoots on selling early days or game shooting will end 👍 all the birds still go into the food chain but appreciate your point
@@napalmhotdog4365 it all comes down to time and money unfortunately.. if the birds are in earlier they will be more expensive to shoot and the shoots won’t be able to shoot as many birds later in the season as they need time to rest or else they will fly rubbish. It’s a hard balance
Sorry, but I had to stop watching this video at the 5 min mark! Because I saw two cases of this presenter shooting over and towards other pegs! On the shoot I beat on and shoot on, I would have been red carded and asked to stop shooting.
Then your shoot doesn’t sound much fun.. The teams I shoot with agree to shoot each others birds if they are more sporting and safe. Completely agree if you are shooting with guns you don’t know as good etiquette 👍
Well done Rob an excellent representation of real world game shooting.
Well done Rob, a lot of nice crossers over the trees, like you say it’s about enjoying the day, not how many you bag . 👏👏

New subscriber. How do you know which bird to shoot? Love your videos.
Making it look easy Mr Speed 👍🏻
I’ve been using the 30g 6 vip game.
Just fantastic,well done sir.

Thank you Nigel!👍👍
I switched to the zeniths a few years back and they are my go to carts I currently have some 34 5s too try but all so use the 32 5s and 30 5s
They are certainly a great cartridge bud, I’m very impressed with them 👍👍

Rob great video, what shot camera are you using ?
What gun you on Rob? Is true left hand? Looks a nice chunky gun for those decent high birds?

Not sure on this episode 👎Too many young birds with very small tails
