Oh, you're so very kind! We appreciate and love you all so much. We love exploring this beautiful country and making so many memories. Thank you for your love! 🤍 Jess x
Love, thank you. I truly live it here and just get so excited to get out and explore. I have found my happiness exploring and sharing it with you all. It makes my heart so joyful to have such a wonderful opportunity. Thank you for your kindness. 🤍 Jess x
Castle Rising looked great, particularly in the autumnal light. I like to imagine the people that once gathered in those halls. The large square holes in the walls were for the heavy beams that supported the floors, so back in the day, the castle would have been even more complex. I suspect that the high rise around the castle was spoil from excavating the moat. An incredible feat of engineering. Stay safe.
Thank you for coming along with us on our adventures! We love being able to share with you all. Love how things were made. I love imagining stepping back in time. Thank you for sharing your time with us like you do we appreciate you! 🤍 Jess x
Lovely video. Another nice day for exploring Jess and Chris. I love the boards on all our castles, showing how the layout would have been, and telling you all about the history. It’s definitely something we do well here.
Friend, I completely agree with you. I love the history, information, and preservation the UK does foe it's history. I appreciate and love your support! 🤍 Jess x
I'd like to suggest a visit to Colchester Castle which was built on the foundations of the Temple of Claudius, the first Roman temple to be built in Britain. Colchester, known as Camulodunum to the Romans, was the original capital of Roman Britain but was sacked during the Boudican revolt of AD63. Camulodunum was subsequently rebuilt, but the capital was moved to Londinium. There is a major exhibit about the Boudican revolt and the destruction of Camulodunum in the museum which is now housed in the castle.
Oh Wowww, Castle Rising. Great video. Here you both are exploring the UK and paying a visit to the castle my 26th.GGD built and I haven't been as yet!! William's wife, Adeliza, was gifted Arundel Castle in W.Sussex on the death of her 1st Husband, Henry 1st. William became the 1st.Earl of Arundel. If you can make it to Arundel, I am sure you will be impressed, or have you been already?.
When I was kid I loved exploring castles (I still do) and would drag my parents to any castle near where we were on holiday. I live near Portchester castle (at the top of Portsmouth harbour) which has Roman walls and a keep from the middle ages. My wife grew uip in Portchester and the castle was her playground. I would recommend a visit, especially as it so close to Portsmouth and the Historic Dockyard with HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose. Close by is the D Day Museum in Southsea. It would be worth a weekend away and you could fit in a visit to Chichester and Fishbourne Roman Palace.
It was even Philadelphia for a while, in the late 80's!! Ok, it was just for the movie, 'Revolution', but it really got the town buzzing for a few months! I was an extra, when they were filming in the Kings Lynn area!! Great experience, terrible film! 🤣
You really had everything, castles, earthworks, silken skies, sunset gold skimming the land and autumn leaves. It really doesn't get better. So pleased you're enjoying the abundant history and pretty villages and market towns! Happy Halloween to you all :)
Oot an aboot wi' Chris n Jess. Anyone else duck their heid when going under those stone archways as you were navigating those passageways 😂😂😂 just me then. Nice wee jaunt. Thanks for taking us along. A' the best Rob
Denise, It was so amazing getting to take you along with us as we learn and explore such history. We're so thankful for your love and support! Hope you're doing well. 🤍 Jess & family x
Great castles, I loved the earthworks at castle Rising. Amazing to think some blokes with shovels must have done that by hand nearly 1000 years ago, must have taken months if not years. Thanks again for a great video.
Hi, I live near Castle Rising. The tea rooms are worth a visit. If you had followed the road to the left of it, you would have seen more old character buildings. There is also a public footpath at the bottom of that road on the right which passes through the Howards land close to their residence.🙂
Hello to Jess and Chris my favourite castle explorers 😀 your fabulous videos have made me appreciate my history even more my friends so thank you very much. Thank you Jess for your amazing editing and facts you display which is really helpful and much appreciated. Amen for English Heritage. I think this October has been warmer than normal with above average temperatures. ⛅ Thank you my friends for all the love and smiles that you share with all your subscribers, you always give me relaxation overload, wishing you a great Thursday. xx. ♥
Stephen, You're such a kind person! We're so glad you're enjoying all of our adventures and us enjoying this beautiful country! I'm trying to learn more and more about editing myself to try and improve with each video. I just don't want our videos to lose the realism and become some big production. Because we're just two real people who enjoy sharing real things and love real life. I love sharing facts so everyone can enjoy and learn a little something new. I'm so thankful you are here, friend! 🤍 Jess & Family x
I used to live in a cottage at Castle Rising right on the edge of the moat, you can see it a few times on the video. Gorgeous place! The trouble with living somewhere like that is you start to take it for granted. I now live about 2 miles away, drive right past the castle most days & don't give it a second thought. You kinda forget what is there. Its a shame.
Wow, how lucky! I love Castle Rising. I think we all take things for granted, but we are so glad we can share our love with you all. Thank you for your kindness! 🤍 Jess x
Jess, I can imagine you as a tour guide on a coach trip you would be a perfect host! Gold star customer care. Well done on a lovely castle tour. Almost sunset, all you need now is beating retreat with the Royal Marines.
Ray, Thank you for that, sweet, though. I would definitely love to. I'm sure everyone would remember the fun that was had. I'm so glad you enjoyed the adventure with us visiting such beautiful history. The sunset was picturesque. We love and appreciate your support, friend! 🤍 Jess x
Another lovely video. thank you. The first castle included a great deal of flint, for which your area is well known. In Neolithic times, flint was traded from there, across northern Europe. As for apples, the favourite cooking apple is the Bramley, a cooking apple. Great for apple sauce and apple pies. For apple jelly (jam without the bits) I suggest crab apples, which you will find in the wild.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video. We love exploring beautiful history and learning about how they were constructed. It's so interesting how times have changed how items are made. Thank you for sharing the tips about the apples. We truly love and appreciate your kindness/ support! 🤍 Jess x
I don’t suppose you’ll read this, but I have an idea for you. RAF Upottery (aka Smeatharpe) in Devon is the airbase that Easy Company took off from in Band of Brothers. The runways are still intact but very degraded. One end of the main runway has been turned into a small oval for motorsports. They’ve got a banger cars meeting on 22nd December. A classic British event featuring races where cars race with full contact allowed. The final race is usually a destruction derby, with the last car moving the winner. Great fun to watch but dress warm!
We do read and try our best to respond to all the comments. That sounds like a great time and location. It is something we have not seen since being here, a banger race. That is a great recommendation, we will look into that to see if we can get it in our schedule, if not, I would like to see that airbase and would be worth the trip. Cheers, Chris
Hiya Jesse and Chris, "sheep, sheep,,,,,,,,and a pig 🐖,😂😂😂 another great video from you both. The outside lighting was beautiful,,,you've got to pretty chuffed with your brilliant shadow on the castle wall 😊. Take care, Tony here in the UK 🇬🇧 ❤
Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed the adventure with us. We love exploring and learning as much as we can. Also, sharing it with you all is an added bonus. I truly love animals and can't wait to have a farm. 🤍 Jess x
What a coincidence, a few years ago I called in at Castle Rising on my way to stay in Hunstanton. During my stroll around the ruins I bumped into an American lady and her young daughter who was visiting the ruins. I told her about other places in the area to visit in North Norfolk. That was on a lovely and sunny early September day x
Great video thank you 😃 I went to Castle Rising several years ago. A medieval reenactment group were performing fight scenes there, they were really good.
Hi Guys , lovely old remnants of the past aren't they , my nearest is Rochester Castle built in the 11th century it's pretty amazing very tall as well so as you approach from the road and rail bridge its stands out . Thanks for the tour appreciate 😊❤
Friend, I will look up that castle. We will try to go check it out. We just love all the history! Thank you for sharing your time with us today. 🤍 Jess x
I love Castle Rising, I lived in King's Lynn for many years and as a kid we used to roll down the earthworks into the moat. I have watched and enjoyed quite a few of your videos, are you stationed at Lakenheath or one of the other bases in Norfolk / Suffolk? You have visited so many sights local to the area. Apologies if you have already visited these, but as a suggestion for another days exploring, try Sandringham Estates, Blickling Hall and if it is dry and sunny, drive around the coastline of North Norfolk. Thornham beach is as beautiful as anywhere in the country, a bit of a hike along foot paths that navigate the Salt marshes but the final destination is wonderful and on a sunny Winter's day you'll capture some beautiful photographs. Have fun and enjoy Norfolk!
Just looked at your previous vlogs and seen Lakenheath, which explains a lot of the locations you visit. I used to play American Football many years ago with servicemen from Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Alconbury, happy days! So keep on enjoying the Norfolk and Suffolk countryside, hope the weather is kind to you and I look forward to seeing your adventures. When you watch reaction vlogs on where to visit in the UK, East Anglia rarely gets mentioned, which I never can understand. But we don't want everyone coming here and spoiling it, so keep it a secret! 🙂
Friend, thank you. I'm glad you were able to see. We have visited many places here in the Norfolk & Suffolk area. We also venture out and see more of this beautiful country. It's definitely heaven on earth, I say. We really appreciate your time sharing and the love recommendations! 🤍 Jess x
[ Castle Rising ] I suggested before, it used to be a school trip when I was a kid in the 70's. Castle Acre and Castle Acre Priory are closer to Kings Lynn ;-)
If you fancy going back even further in time you should check out Grimes Graves near Thetford. It is a Neolithic flint mine. There is not much to see at ground level, but you can descend into one of the pits and see how pre-historic families mined flints from the surrounding chalk.
Another great video. Amazing composition. Unless you've had training in cinematography, which I'm guessing you haven't (!), you've got natural talent, Chris. And Jess, your commentary and observations tie in beautifully with Chris' camerawork. Chris, please could I ask what you filmed this on?
Friend, thank you for your kindness. We're definitely not trained. We're just an average couple sharing our fun adventures and lives with you amazing people! Yes, sharing our equipment in the description of the videos all the time. We just use a GoPro and a DJI Mini 3 drone. We also used microphones and the GoPro Media Mod for sound. Hope that helps. We love just being your average family sharing our lives with you all. Thank you for your love and support! 🤍 Jess x
That was a great video. The sunlight and shadows adding so much. Just a thought, how many stones went into the construction of Castle Rising, each one laid by hand? Mind boggling 😮 😂
Considering the resources available at the time, those castles, cathedrals and churches are incredible buildings. Think about the logistics involved in getting the building materials to the site; no B and Q back then!
It was the perfect time of day to explore with the sunlight. Friend, it's truly amazing to see how things were made then and now. Thank you for your kindness! 🤍 Jess x
What your looking at , at the the manor house is the left over concrete that would have been sandwiched between dressed stone , the dressed stone has obviously been robbed out .
Just a bit of trivia from a Welsh expat, including ruins there are around 600 castles in Wales. When we took our children home we showed them a few,a few to many lol.The next time we went home our children said no castles please.
Hi! Looking at the moats and mounds make me wonder if you folks have ever encountered in reality, or as a concept, a Ha-Ha? A ha-ha is a hidden ditch where, to any attacking party, the ground looks as if it carries straight on, until it doesn't and the attacker find themselves at the bottom of the ditch Ha! Ha! How amusing! Bye!
Must be an extra layer of headfudgery to think that not only are all(?) UK castles older than an independent USA, most of them were built before any European settlement of the Americas. That’s proper old!
You could almost stopped over for tea, But bye the by @ 5:58 what your looking at is an aggregate of material, Flint(the black bits, is actually Volcanic Glass, So the stone-age should actually be known as the Glass-age, And did you Know, Northern Scotland, is the Same rock that NNE American Continent is
Lovely, how funny would that be for us to just turn up for a cuppa. We truly appreciate you all for sharing about the materials. As always, thanks for sharing your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
You've shared dozens of vlogs showing beautiful aspects of the UK countryside, and I have often asked myself how we can protect these sites without cramming more and more people into a reducing acreage of available space. In 1950 when I was a six year old lad, the population of the UK was 50 million ; in 2026 it is projected to be 70 million; in 2036 73 million. I have witnessed, seen and experienced the enormous impact, particularly on local communities, and it has not been positive. You are experiencing the remnants of a previously ultra glorious island. It is still beautiful, but for how long ? Nevertheless I love what you have found and shared. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Friend, I understand fully about the worry of this beautiful place losing and the need to protect these places. We appreciate your love and support. Hope you have had a lovely weekend so far. 🤍 Jess x
At Castle Rising which as you know is in Norfolk, you walked up a long stone stairway. It is said that Queen Isabella - the wife of King Edward 2nd, can be heard laughing hysterically on that very staircase. Isabella was - I believe - the instigator of the plot that resulted in Edward's murder when Isabella had as her lover, Sir Roger Mortimer, who was later executed I believe. King Edward was supposedly murdered by having a red-hot iron pushed into his "fundament"...... make of that what you will.
Vaudevillian, Same friend, I love Castles! We have been to Nottingham Castle but not the others. Will definitely check them out. We appreciate the recommendations! 🤍 Jess & family x
2 more places I have never been to? You must go to Framlingham Castle. By the way Jess, did you know that you have been reacted to by You Tuber, Tyler Rumpole?
Patrick, We loved checking them out and taking you all along with us. We will see if we can make a trip to Framingham Castle. Thank you for the recommendation! Unfortunately, I didn't know thank you for telling me. Hopefully, it was a kind reaction. I wish they would reach out and let people know before just doing it. 🫣 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarn Yes I can second Framlingham Castle, you could probably go see Orford castle at the same time. If I remember correctly you can see Orford castle from the walls of Framlingham. I think Framlingham was built by a private family/Landowner and Orford was built within view by the King to remind the family who's in charge. Its also Ed Sheerans home town and the inspiration for Castle On The Hill, the song by him.
@@DaydreamersBarn When you visit Framlingham castle, be sure to drive a few miles north to Laxfield and visit a pub called the Low House. It dates back to the 15th century. It's rather different from most pubs.
King Edward II was bisexual. People were not as intolerant about this back then as one would think, but the trouble was, he treated his boyfriends with totally excessive favouritism, which irked the nobles. His wife Isabella wasn't that pleasant, being the daughter of an evil French King, Philip IV. (He was the one who destroyed the Knights Templar on trumped-up charges.) In 1327, in alliance with her boyfriend, one of the most capable and dangerous of all English nobles, Roger Mortimer, Earl of March, she deposed her husband - nominally in the name of her 14-year old son, Edward III. But young Edward seized Roger and executed him in 1330. The traditional story is that Edward II was horribly murdered in 1327, but recently this story has been challenged. A letter from a Genoese merchant - the Fieschi letter - reveals that a deal with the Pope meant that Edward II was allowed to live out his days in a monastery in the Italian Alps. (Edward II would have been quite happy with this, since he never really wanted to become King.) All sorts of small details add up to me that this story is right. Edward III was quite an upright man, and I doubt he would have treated his mother as well as he did if she had indeed murdered his father. So she was allowed to have a luxurious retirement at Castle Rising.
Those are some interesting facts on the history here. It is crazy how something can change what we preserved history to be with one bit of information. Thanks for the comment and information. Cheers, Chris
The gate you went through is known as a "kissing gate".Often seen crossing footpaths and public rights of way.I'll leave the rest to you chaps when you go through it again.🇬🇧🇺🇸😊😊
Norman castles. Built by forced English labour to protect the invading aristocracy from the the natives who's land they had just stolen, impose alien rule and serfdom for the peasantry . Their forced work on the Lord's land( previously their own) produced all the wealth and luxury these usurpers consumed. For the next 500 years they treated common people with the utmost brutality. Death was the sentence for hundreds of the most trivial offences while the nobles and clergy were not subject to the same laws. Unfortunately, not only Americans, but most British, who should know better, think these castles are romantic, symbols of our glorious past. If they think of Medieval times, courtly love, jousting and chivalry, damsels in distress will be what springs to mind. Not the horrific brutality, cruelty ,inequality and oppression suffered by the vast majority of the population.
@ as Americans you probably cannot appreciate our history. When travelling back in time we are fortunate, and able to see, hear and touch our historical past. Do not pass through on a time agenda, stop, absorb and touch the history. Feel the masonry, hug the stones. Common analogy of Americans in the uk. Board the coach, visit Warwick in the morning, Stratford on Avon in the afternoon. ‘ we have seen British history’. Recommend Avebury in Wiltshire. The start of early british foundations. Happy and safe travels. 🇬🇧😀
My favourite Americans, love your videos each time i watch them i realise what history we have here in the UK as we tend to take it all for granted. ❤

Lovely, thank you for sharing your time experiencing Castle Rising. It is so beautiful and the perfect time of day. 🤍 Jess
If you fancy going back even further in time you should check out Grimes Graves near Thetford. It is a Neolithic flint mine. There is not much to see at ground level, but you can descend into one of the pits and see how pre-historic families mined flints from the surrounding chalk.
Very claustrophobic, though!
Lovely, thank you for sharing and the recommendation! We truly appreciate your kindness. 🤍 Jess x
I've been to both castle Weeting and castle Rising. Corfe castle on the south West coast is also worth a visit
Lovely, we appreciate the recommendation! We will definitely try and check it out. 🤍 Jess x
Have you thought of looking at Leeds castle or Bodium? As they are not ruins. They are well worth a visit.
That sounds like a great visit. Cheers, Chris
There are similar remains of Hadleigh Castle in Essex, overlooking Leigh-on-Sea seafront. It was built in the 1200’s, you should look it up!
We will put that one on the list. Sounds like it is worth the visit. Cheers, Chris
Mind boggling 😮
😂
Considering the resources available at the time, those castles, cathedrals and churches are incredible buildings. Think about the logistics involved in getting the building materials to the site; no B and Q back then!
It was the perfect time of day to explore with the sunlight.
Friend, it's truly amazing to see how things were made then and now. Thank you for your kindness! 🤍 Jess x
Hubby is a good cameraman.
Thank you, love! I think so as well, but he's my favorite cameraman. 😉
🤍 Jess x
Trick or treat! Happy Halloween folks 🕸👻🎃❤️
Same to you. We hope you had a lovely time! 🤍 Jess x
Thanks
Thank you for your continued support! 🤍 Jess x
What your looking at , at the the manor house is the left over concrete that would have been sandwiched between dressed stone , the dressed stone has obviously been robbed out .
Thank you for spending time with us, friend. 🤍 Jess x
what a lovely couple of old ruins indeed, the Castles weren't bad either 😛
Haha, good one, friend. So goad you enjoyed the time exploring with us. 🤍 Jess x
Just a bit of trivia from a Welsh expat, including ruins there are around 600 castles in Wales. When we took our children home we showed them a few,a few to many lol.The next time we went home our children said no castles please.
Haha, I love it. Thank you for sharing. We love exploring this beautiful country. 🤍 Jess x
I have not been to this one. Looks magnificent.
Highly recommend! It's very nice. 🤍 Jess x
Bye!
Thank you for sharing the haha with us. We appreciate your time, friend. 🤍 Jess x
Great memory
We agree, friend! 🤍 Jess x
Must be an extra layer of headfudgery to think that not only are all(?) UK castles older than an independent USA, most of them were built before any European settlement of the Americas. That’s proper old!
We love exploring this beautiful country and sharing our joy with you all. 🤍 Jess x
🤍 Jess x
You need to visit Dover Castle.
No, but we definitely want to! 🤍 Jess x
Enjoyed that 👌
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you, friend.
Oh, very interesting. Thank you for sharing that insight about Castle Rising. Really appreciate you sharing your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
Do love a castle! Have you been up to Nottinghamshire or Lincolnshire yet?
Vaudevillian,
Same friend, I love Castles! We have been to Nottingham Castle but not the others. Will definitely check them out. We appreciate the recommendations! 🤍 Jess & family x
[ switches to 4k ]
The sky at 18:55 is amazing. We get good skies in Fenland all the time, but, so few features in the landscpe.
Was filmed in for 4k the entire time.
We really appreciate your time exploring with us. 🤍 Jess x
You like Sheep & Castles then you need to visit Wales 😊
We have been a few times and quite enjoyed it! Cheers, Chris
18:00 I just noticed, you must be wearing the camera/phone on your chest. 👍
I am, it makes it a lot easier being hands free. Good catch. Cheers, Chris
Try Grimes Graves. Near Thetford.
Wonderful recommendation! 🤍 Jess x

Wonderful, recommendation! Thank you, friend. 🤍 Jess x
"Wee, ting!
Thank you. 🤍 Jess x
2 more places I have never been to? You must go to Framlingham Castle. By the way Jess, did you know that you have been reacted to by You Tuber, Tyler Rumpole?
Patrick,
We loved checking them out and taking you all along with us. We will see if we can make a trip to Framingham Castle. Thank you for the recommendation!
Unfortunately, I didn't know thank you for telling me. Hopefully, it was a kind reaction. I wish they would reach out and let people know before just doing it. 🫣
🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarn Yes I can second Framlingham Castle, you could probably go see Orford castle at the same time. If I remember correctly you can see Orford castle from the walls of Framlingham. I think Framlingham was built by a private family/Landowner and Orford was built within view by the King to remind the family who's in charge. Its also Ed Sheerans home town and the inspiration for Castle On The Hill, the song by him.
Tyler Rumpole is a fraud. He doesn't credit the original content creators. He just milks other people's content for easy money.
@@DaydreamersBarn When you visit Framlingham castle, be sure to drive a few miles north to Laxfield and visit a pub called the Low House. It dates back to the 15th century. It's rather different from most pubs.
Yeh!😊 A great day - thanks again - see yah!
Thank you for sharing your time with us, friend! 🤍 Jess x
(Edward II would have been quite happy with this, since he never really wanted to become King.)
All sorts of small details add up to me that this story is right.
Love it, thank you, friend. We go through those a lot! 🤍 Jess x
its not a ladybug its a bishy barnabee
Thank you for letting us know. 🤍 Jess x
It is understandable that there is more history regarding the castles than what meets the eyes. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Chris
Any chance of reparations from the French?
It needs electricity and central heating or they'll never sell it.
It was a beautiful place to explore. 🤍 Jess x
I thought they waved
Was on point, right!? 🤍 Jess x
Did you know Yorkshire is called God's own country😊
We haven't heard that one. But it is on the list. Cheers, Chris
Not castles. But ruins. 🇬🇧😂
They are beautiful none the less. Cheers, Chris
These castles are rubbish, you were able to storm them with no resistance. No arrows, no boiling tar, nothing!
Thank you for the comment. We enjoyed exploring these beautiful places. 🤍 Jess x
Morning all. A most enjoyable video and thank you for bringing us along. I sent you a Facebook message you might find of interest
Friend, thank you for the Super Thanks! I just responded to your message on Facebook. Really appreciate you sharing the video with me. 🤍 Jess x
