Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and gene Pitney are the three greatest “singers” in contemporary music of the sixties. Without a doubt, perhaps even the greatest pure singers of all time. They will never be forgotten.
Hi Frank. I would just like to say that, Gene Pitney wrote songs, as did Roy Orbison. But, according to the information I have been given, Elvis Presley wasn't able to do that. Good singer, good rocker, good looker and a good entertainer. But I don't think I have ever heard him harmonising or changing key. Of course, I'm open to correction on this but I just can't recall any of these things happening. Thank you for reading this. John. Saw Gene live 6 times in Birmingham & Wolverhampton between 1985 & 1990 . The power of his voice was electrifying, he sang every song with the energy as if it’s the first time he’s sang it. The best live singer ever full stop.
Fell in love with Gene when I was 15, am now 64 & still love him. I saw him 4 times in live concerts & was ready to book for another concert when I heard that he had passed away, I was heart broken. Watch him nearly every day through UA-cam , there will never be another Gene Pitney😘
Oddly enough, I was unaware (busy with family) when Gene was on the scene. Cute when young, I find him much more attractive as he aged. Voice was always great! Sorry I missed his hay day, but love him now! I'm almost 80, the power of music is ageless.

I'm in my late 70s, been a fan of Gene most of my life here in my country, New Zealand. Gene had a rare and unusual sound which no other singer ever had. I'm getting old now and I often listen to Gene's performances here on You Tube. He will always be one of my favourite male singers, he's up there with Al Martino and Englebert. God bless Gene Pitney.
I like Al Martino, too -- Spanish Eyes -- but I think Pitney was in a different class, because he wrote hit songs. Also, Martino predates the rock era but also had a long career; Pitney coincided with the rock era and went beyond it.
Just incredible! I'm not certain that younger people today will ever appreciate the talent and genius of this remarkable man!! Taken from this life so young with so much left to give. Rest in Peace Gene, you're one in a million! !
Although that is very true, I'm fifteen and I have been loving Gene Pitney ever since I first heard "It hurts to be in love" on a 60s compilation lp that I got a while ago. However, I'm sure that not many people that I know are likely to feel the same way. Take care and keep loving Gene.
Pitney's tunes haunt me to this day. 12 years old when I first heard his vice...in 1961. Andy...you are too cool forever. Thank you for all of you who enjoy his music and voice.

The very first LP I ever bought was THIS IS GENE PITNEY when I was maybe 15 and I played it for decades and even after I went through 8 tracks and cassettes I could not part with it. The jacket fell apart. After I was able recreate all the songs from the list with my DVD maker, I found a picture of the original jacket and put it in the plastic. I LOVED that man's voice. I never got to see a live concert but here I can enjoy one anytime I want to. Here I am 68 years old but when I hear that voice; I am 15 once more.

Examiner I do not believe fame and popularity or lack of it adds or lessens the talent of anybody though he did deserve. Fantastic voice is the exact word. He did leave us too soon. At least he did not suffer and died without knowing.
Earlier this year I bought an old LP in a thrift shop for 50 cents and it is Gene Pitney Sings World-Wide Winners. I was born in 1965, so only knew Liberty Valance and Town without Pity. Now I find I'm shedding tears watching and listening to him here. I would go out on a limb and say he's my favorite artist, thus far.
When I have time to relax and enjoy Gene Pitney performing live I come back to this video. When I need to get some work done I listen to a posting by Patrick Teater (Gene Pitney - Musicor 45rpm Records - 1960-1965) which is 1:43:29 of Gene Pitney's gems, songs such as 'Every Breath I Take', 'Town Without Pity', 'Just One Smile', 'Only Love Can Break A Heart', 'Liberty Valance', 'Take It Like A Man', 'Cornflower Blue'. 'Tower Tall', 'Walk', 'Alladin's Lamp', 'Lonely Drifter', 'Blue Color', 'Born To Lose'. To anyone just discovering Gene Pitney - you will be blown away by this legend's versatility.
I remember seeing gene Pitney with my beautiful mom and brother in Birmingham England he was just fantastic his voice was gust as great as ever which he never lost he performed in Cardiff 2 days later then the terrible news broke he had died like everyone we couldn't believe it losing such a talented singer songwriter but I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to have seen him I will never forget that night bless you gene

When Gene sings Only Love can break a heart, tears flow down my cheeks with fond memories. His songs will forever be in my heart. Thank you Gene Pitney. You are missed. ❤
I consider myself very lucky to have seen Gene before he died. Just without compare, as so many people have said one of the very rare entertainers who genuinely give you goosebumps!
My two favourite singers were Gene Pitney and Roy Orbison , they both had a completely different approach to their delivery of their songs , Roy Orbison would stand on stage and hardly move and often his mouth would often not open very much but his voice was very strong , powerful and distinctive, Gene Pitney would move a lot on stage and his mouth movements were very forceful and often his mouth would open very wide with his powerful voice and distinctive voice . Both singers died of a heart attack , like many famous singers , maybe being a top singer is more stressful on the body than it looks .

My favourite track of his was looking through the eyes of love. I know he had 3 sons and toured for over 40 years. He did like his wine as well lol. From what I've read up about him he was a really nice guy and always made time for his fans. I love his voice. Most singers as they get older loose their voice but his seemed stronger with a more richer tone. He died on my birthday of all days. April the 5th
God this man was good, in so many areas. No wonder his fans stayed loyal throughout his career and beyond. I've watched this show many times and will be watching many more. Thank you St.Louis Flashback for allowing this show to be seen by all.
I once saw him perform in Birmingham town hall and the sound system failed during a rendition of 'Looking Through The Eyes Of Love' he just carried on singing and do you know his voice was still as powerful. A sign of a true professional. Thanks for the memories Gene. Bet you're singing in the choir up there with other great singers.
Gene Pitney will forever be the musical voice of my father. To this day, I still listen and remember a childhood of road trips with Gene, Roy Orbison, and The Everly Bros. Thanks for raising me with a keen ear for melody and music with heart, Dad.
No words!! Just no words to say what a wonder and talent Gene Pitney was. So glad to have these videos and there is one almost the same as this one when he was younger. The voice was younger but this concert is just as strong even with an older voice. Amazing. He died so young.
Seen this tour this year in little old Ararat victoria Australia My dad was the performing arts centre director and took him and his manager out for dinner. Fascinating stories… In 2000 he was still getting 250k a year royalties of 24 hrs from Tulsa lol 😂
I got to see him at one of the concerts and meet him after the show. What a great singer and nice guy. Loved his music. We had so many great talents back then
The Rockville Rocket. Lived in Connecticut his whole life. Only love can break your heart was kept out of the number one spot by He's a Rebel which he wrote..
A absolute fantastic singer this man was being a singer myself will always continue to sing these excellent songs and carry this mans talent on R.I.P.Gene
This is the concert that made me a Gene fan. I had heard his music here and there and always sang along. But, this concert made me go out and get some cds. Quite the performer!!! Thanks for posting.
I was at the final show in Cardiff. It was the fourth time (I think I'd watched him perform live at St David's Hall) and for me definitely his strongest performance, very energetic. The show was similar to this one in terms of songs, concluding with a standing ovation at the end for Town Without Pity. Some songs he sang that don't appear in this video were Just One Smile, Tower Tall, The Bosses Daughter and Blue Angel. He shook as many hands as possible of those along the front line after a truly wonderful show. I miss his concerts massively, but great that his music lives on. His voice was so unique.
Gene Pitney is brilliant, always. I saw him in the Woughton Centre and Milton Keynes around 25 years ago, I walked up to the stage, totally adamant this was going to happen, and thankfully got a kiss from him, and so did my mum. Gene was such a lovely person as well as an amazing artist.
I remember seeing gene pitney as a backup for another big head liner where he came to new zealand in the 1960s. He brought the house down and wasnt allowed to leave the stage when it was time The other entertaner reconised what a talent he had and kept him on stage for the complete show. and the rest they say was history. I was proud to be at that show that nite. Gene Pitneys memory will never die.
Saw Gene in the 60's,and I was at this show....Gene married his childhood sweethearts it was appropriate that I took my childhood sweetheart to this show...
gene was one very beautiful singer, i loved his music, very much. every song of his was very deep, and he sang them with so much feeling.hes surely missed.
HOW UNGRATEFUL AND STUPID IS THE USA FOR NEVER GIVING THIS BRILLIANT ARTIST THE RESPECT AND ADMIRATION THAT HE DESERVED HOW PATHETIC OF AMERICA NOT TO HAVE UNDERSTOOD HIS GENIOUS!!
Did you know that Pitney tried Country music after his pop career waned.....but I always thought his voice was of the caliber and distinction of Frankie Laine.
WITH RESPECT TO ALL, GENE WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE 100% HE SO RICHLY DESERVED, BECAUSE, AND IT HAS TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED, PRESLEY AND A FEW OTHERS, WHO, BETWEEN THEM DIDN'T HAVE THE TALENT/ CAPABILITY TO WRITE SONGS, WERE GUIDED AND PAMPERED ALONG. YOUNG TEENAGERS SWOONING AND FAINTING ???? AND THE CAMERAS ALWAYS MANAGED TO CATCH IT ALL ! THEY WERE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE SONGS OTHERS WROTE FOR THEM. I COULD GO ON, BUT THERE'S TOO MUCH CORRUPTION TO HIGHLIGHT. ( AND I KNOW THIS personally ). THANK YOU FOR READING.
UTube is the Best. All the Memories that we can watch of our dear friend Gene Pitney...Always in our thoughts. Good to see other Friends in This video. Maurice we miss you here in the Land of Oz.
I attended the concert Gene performed at the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, West Sussex, a few days before his death was announced on the radio. I could not believe it as he looked well, gave a superb performance and received a long standing ovation 😰

What about Scott walker?
Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers
Paul Anka too.
His voice is unmistakable, I love listening to him but he can't be compared to Elvis,
Gene Pitney is the most under-rated musical artists of all time. Check this human out. He is a true singer/songwriter. Enjoy.
Does it make a difference?

Gene Pitney will forever be the musical voice of my father. To this day, I still listen and remember a childhood of road trips with Gene, Roy Orbison, and The Everly Bros. Thanks for raising me with a keen ear for melody and music with heart, Dad.
Loved the Guy THE PITNEY - He loved to come to Britain - and we loved him coming here - BRILLIANT THE PITNEY RIP.
Me too 😍
Is he in The rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame???🤭😀💐
The Canary of rockkkkk💐💐💐💐🌺rollllllll🤗🟡🟡🟡🟡🟡🟡🟡🟡😁
My mom always was playing Gene Pitney in the Van during all the family commutes. Looking back on it 34 years later, I'm very grateful she did!
He was my heartthrob in the 60’s. Gosh, he still ‘has it’.
No words!! Just no words to say what a wonder and talent Gene Pitney was. So glad to have these videos and there is one almost the same as this one when he was younger. The voice was younger but this concert is just as strong even with an older voice. Amazing. He died so young.
Love him, saw him in concert in 1985 for my 14th Birthday he was amazing :D
Down to earth and humble man.
YOU WERE VERY LUCKY
Seen this tour this year in little old Ararat victoria Australia
My dad was the performing arts centre director and took him and his manager out for dinner.
Fascinating stories…
In 2000 he was still getting 250k a year royalties of 24 hrs from Tulsa lol 😂
This is a stellar performance. Gene is in excellent voice for this concert!
thrilled to have found this concert, one of the few voices ever to give me goosebumps. Amazing man x
Gene pitney was a true brilliant singer I loved him in the 6o ths and love him now God bless

Hello Karen, How are you doing?
I got to see him at one of the concerts and meet him after the show. What a great singer and nice guy. Loved his music. We had so many great talents back then
The Rockville Rocket. Lived in Connecticut his whole life. Only love can break your heart was kept out of the number one spot by He's a Rebel which he wrote..
and stayed married-well loved in Connecticut. saw him years ago in Holyoke Ma.
First album I owned. Had forgotten how down right sexy he was.
Hello Karen, How are you doing?
Wow! That was a great concert! I loved it! RIP Gene✝ you are missed
He was a great performer and he left much too soon.
Who is not listening ti Gene Pitney in 2024?
Saw Gene in the 60's,and I was at this show....Gene married his childhood sweethearts it was appropriate that I took my childhood sweetheart to this show...
I never knew he was a songwriter. Such a good one too! All those wonderful songs!

I saw him in the 60’s in Tulsa when he was on tour. He was great!
Still sounded GREAT ! Talented man... R.I.P., Gene ✝❤✝
Hello Kathleen, How are you doing?
My wife used to find me hold our first baby (Yvonne) who was asleep while I listened to Gene's albums with headphones on.
I listen to him every day loved him.
What an energetic and talented singer!
One of my favorite recording artists.. Great video !
Thoroughly enjoyed this concert!
Hello Roberta, How are you doing?

Great singer! Half Heaven Half Heartache, Mecca, Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, ... just to name a few
I attended the concert Gene performed at the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, West Sussex, a few days before his death was announced on the radio. I could not believe it as he looked well, gave a superb performance and received a long standing ovation 😰
