I thought I had heard every Pitney song. "Take Me Tonight" came as a complete surprise! What, no "It Hurts to be in Love?"
Nobody could sing a tear jerker like gene Pitney. He was the best. Miss him thank god we have his music RIP and thanks for the memories
I listen to a lot of music but Gene Pitney is the only artist I keep listening to again and again... Never tire of that phenomenal voice and just love who he was. So missed.

Love his awesome voice. Been a big fan of his since I went to a concert in 1963 in ch.ch nz. I still love him and am so sad that he passed away at such a young age 😢 RIP Gene

the most underrated music talent of all time. at the age of 19 he was already writing songs like " he's a rebel" for other groups. "I gotta be strong" is still one of my go to songs when I am down
That "underrated" comment is so tired. Gene Pitney had a long, successful career. Now, he's dead. Why would you think at any time in his life he was underrated?!?

@@Marcel_Audubon He was underrated in the US, he was much, much bigger chart wise, in Europe and his concerts in the UK were sellouts. Even in the 1990's I found it difficult to get a seat to his concert in Cambridge. Had to settle for one behind a pillar. :/

I love Gene Pitney. His songs are so emotionally charged. His voice. Marvelous! He wrote so many romantic songs.
I moved to France in 2011, and trying to become familiar with my small community, I went to an international food products open air market. So surprised to hear "24 Hours From Tulsa" playing at that market in France. It brought back memories of swapping spit with my high school boyfriend, while listening to Gene Pitney, back in 1967....I started listening to Gene, regularly, after that.
Always missed and love by many fans. Thank you for all the joy you left. May you Rest In Peace Gene.
I play "just one smile and I'm right back at the dancing in my local town. Fifty odd years ago .I close my eyes and just listen and I'm there again MAGIC

I have been a fan from the first day I heard him sing. He has the most wonderful voice, unique to say the least. He'll always have my heart.and I'll always be a loyal fan
That's what was so special about him. Absolutely nobody sounded the same and his singing was recognizable almost from the first note. Greatly missed.

I saw him at Royal Albert Hall, London. His performance was perfection.
Such a lovely, lovely guy. I often wondered how someone who achieved so much could remain a really ordinary guy - nothing starry about him at all. Probably the nicest guy I ever met.

Gene Pitney my father used to listen to him I used to play records but I must have been about 11 to 12 years of age and the love songs what very strong something that I've been looking for all my life strong emotional great price and very passionate I love his lyrics are very they make me very strong and and it's fantastic

Man! I had forgotten how his voice use to make chills run up my spine when I was fourteen!!!
I was 12 years old then and totally in awe of his voice, I was completely blown away even at that age. Know all about those chills, will always love Gene. RIP
I was 14 and my older sister would say she remembered me sitting by the old stereo listening to Gene Pitney songs - they're still great 50 years later.....
Loved him when I was young. Still love him and I'm old.
I was too young to know about him when he was at his prime, but because his songs are still played now, I grew to love his gorgeous, good looks and that unique, angelic voice. RIP Me Gene Pitney. Truly missed. X

Back in the 60's my brother and I would skip school and drive to Rockville to Hammond Street hoping Gene might be home...he never was...but it was a thrill just to be on the street where grew up on
During the 60's Gene spent a lot of time in London, whilst you were hoping to see him in Rockville, he was in London staying at the hotel where i worked, so I saw him often - sorry about that ;)
I love his music, seen him in concert 2 times & it made me love him more! R.I.P. Mr. Pitney, miss you😢

Great Selection. Thankyou. I was 10 years old when I first heard Gene Pitney on the Radio in Adelaide 1960. Saw him perform in Adelaide, South Australia in the 1980's. Great live Performer.

Couldn't agree more with everyone's comments. Gene was amazing talent. I was lucky enough to see him in Australia, not all that long before he sadly passed away.
I had the good fortune of seeing him live three times...the thing about Gene that impressed me most beside his voice was his going out of his way for his fans. I've seen him jump off the stage and sing to the fans and shake their hands which drove the Security team crazy...One concert was at our Colliseum and we held horse shows there...they had a wooden stage and walk up made of wood for his perfaormance, the rest of the arena was muddy. He walked to his fans waiting by the fence and shook hands while he sang...I loved him for that and have ever since.

A much missed artist -who I had the good fortune to see in concert in Nottingham way back when. A very distinctive voice and a much underrated singer - but one of my favourites. Best song undoubtedly "Every Breath I take" for my money. RIP Gene a true great.

My 71 st birthday yesterday my husband got me the only lp i havent got with melba Montgomery i love this guy i saw him in Cardiff the day before he died i was heartbroken rest in peace maestro
I cannot imagine what a shock it must have been for you to hear of Gene's death just the day after you saw him in concert! I think Gene fans everywhere were devastated, I know I was . :'(

From the first time he started to sing until his last song his songs were sung with deep feeling and the love with each word it’s was magical, never find another GENE PITNEY so sorry all of our very best singers have been and gone but it is always to go back and listen to their songs and and hold onto every word, the songs that they sing today are nothing like our yesterdays HEROS❤❤❤❤❤

I'm so sorry that I never had the opportunity to see him in person. I grew up with his music and his songs of unrequited love stole my heart in my teens. I've rediscovered him (thank you, Alexa (Echo)). I could listen to him all day. The song, "I'm Gonna Be Strong" tears me up every single time I hear it.

I saw him at the Hyland Theater in Halifax with Brian Hyland and Kenny Chandler in the early 1960,s hosted by Frank Cameron and wished he had come back years later. A wonderful performer silenced and missed.
Great job with the music and amazing pictures of Gene. I remember where I was when I heard Gene had passed. He was my favorite male singer growing up. He sang with such emotion and at times pathos. There were also a number of great Bacharach (now gone too!) tunes that Gene did. I still regret not going to his memorial service in Conn. which was not that far away. His music lives on !!

Wow! I sing several Gene Pitney songs, but none of your favorites. The only one I've even heard was the last one. But when I was in Jr. High I thought these songs were really something, 24 Hrs from Tulsa, Last exit to Brooklyn, I must be seeing things, I'm Gonna be Strong, Maybe these are not, for the most part songs he wrote, but they were the ones played on KIMN 950 Denver. When I saw him on Shindig or Hullabaloo, I was blown away with his dramatic performance and over articulation. I was surprised to see that he wrote Hello Mary Lou.
