I had the privilege of seeing him on this tour (his farewell) and I was seated in the 8th row. it was magical! The man was 73 and had the spryness of a man half his age.
you probably dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend lately =)
+Lauren Faerber Same here. My wife and I saw this in Boston in what turned out to be Topol's last performance. He was fantastic. As I recall, the touring cast was mostly performers with not a lot of experience, and I recall thinking that overall, the production wasn't quite as good as when we saw it on Broadway (with Harvey Fierstein playing Tevya). Topol was great though - he really carried the show.
John Mac He's the only Tevye for me! I was so happy when he did the shaking bit in If I were A Rich Man. I was very happy haha. I was just like: "Yay!"
He was great, for sure. I have to say though, I was pleasantly surprised by Fierstein. I thought he did a great job capturing the lighthearted, comedic elements of the character. Though I must admit, it took a few numbers to get used to that voice!
I had the honor of seeing Topol in his last tour of "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Orpheum in Memphis last year. Yes, a little older, but he was still funny and fantastic!
Hi there, how can I watch the full musical. I do not mean the film. After 51 years, I have discovered this film for just three months :)). You are so lucky, I wish I could see hım. I am his new and big fan.
Just got back from the show. It was amazing and a wonderful time at the theatre! Topol is one of a kind and makes Tevye easily the most loveable character ever written for the stage. Bravo!
I love this musical! I will be playing Fruma Sarah in my school's production of "Fiddler" and I cannot wait for opening night (this weekend). I'm fortunate to say that our Tevye follows Topol's techniques within acting!
Such a wonderful performer. I saw him on his last tour and now he has passed away. I am so sad, but grateful to watch your video. Thanks for sharing this.
I would have LOVED to have seen this wonderful staged version of Fiddler!!! I absolutely LOVE Topol and the music in this. I saw the movie when I was a very young child and it was my first introduction, so to speak, to the culture of Jewish life, not just back in those days in Europe, but to the traditions of the Jewish people. Judaism is so much more than merely a system of religious beliefs. It's a way of life, complete with its own history. Ever since, I've always searched to understand more...the culture of the people behind the religion.
This was the last year Topol played Tevye on stage. From Wikipedia "On January 20, 2009, Topol began a farewell tour of Fiddler on the Roof as Tevye, opening in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. He was forced to withdraw from the tour owing to a shoulder injury, and made his last appearance as Tevye in Boston, Massachusetts on November 15, 2009. (Theodore Bikel and Harvey Fierstein, both of whom have portrayed Tevye on Broadway, replaced him in scheduled appearances.)"
Yeah - sometimes it's part of the royalty agreement for this show that use you the original choreography. In our adult production, the bottle dance brought the audience to their feet. And we could not convince them the bottles were not fastened in any way. 9 shows, 0 bottles dropped!
I was so happy to be in my school's summer production of this. You could say that we followed in this shows production, because i got to play Fruma Sarah.
I know this sounds crazy, but I just saw this tonight at OCPAC and after the audience clapped for him, it was SILENT. Whenever that man spoke, every single person was just fixed on his every movement. This particular scene was so perfect, I ended up crying because it was just so simple. I LOVED the show. absolutely loved it.
Oh, thank you for sharing this. I was debating over whether to see it when it comes to Seattle this spring, but now I know I've got to go. What a treat! :0)
Omg I saw this at the golden gate theatre a few weeks ago but a different guy was tevye he had a rough voice the one I saw and I just finished being in it a lot of fun!!
Goodness, actual video of the actual West End show. Surely no mobile phones then. How was that done? I saw it. My dad played flute and piccolo in the orchestra!! Great to hear him again - sadly passed 12 years ago.
A theater company I’m in just announced there doing this show next year I can’t wait to be in it . The role I am going to audition for is Chava if I don’t get her any of tevias 2 younger daughters . If I don’t of them one of the daughters or any of the other lady parts besides yenta
@michee67 It's not one of the daughters. I think bethnee9989 is saying the character Miryla who is one of the villagers. Tevye's 5 daughters' names are Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava, Shprintze, and Bielke.
No. its not a character the last time i checked (i could be wrong). but the daughters are tzeitel(pronounced zitel), hodel, shpritza, bielke (pronounced bee el ka), and chava (pronounced hava)
My school did this one just this year. I didn't have a role, but I was playing as a violist in the orchestra. It was really fun, but next time, if there is any chance, I want to be the fiddler next time (I can play the violin) !
+Larry Gott This is the 2009-2010 North American Tour. I am 100% certain as I was in it. Looking for footage and just saw your question now. Hope this helps!
RIP, you wondrously talented and wonderful man. 3,500 performances of Fiddler on the Roof, from 1971 to 2009! Forty years!
I had the privilege of seeing him on this tour (his farewell) and I was seated in the 8th row. it was magical! The man was 73 and had the spryness of a man half his age.
75 actually! I saw him in San Diego on his farewell tour!
Same here. Him walking out, doesn’t even say one word, the WHOLE theater claps! Was magical. I’ll never forget that. Rest In Peace Topol
When the whole audience claps on beat to tradition gave me chills.
you probably dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend lately =)
@Holden Barrett yup, been watching on instaflixxer for months myself :D
@Holden Barrett yea, have been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself :D
uGh its always so satisfying when the audience is on beat
I hated it lol
So happy I got to see him live. It was like watching the movie! I love Topol's verison of Tevye

Wow what a blessing
Acting, singing and dancing all on point. And it gives me chills when a whole company can freeze on stage simultaneously and keep it.
Now Tevye is one of my favourite chararcter in movie/stage. And Topol is my favourite to play Tevye role. He is great and that voice👍
I had the honor of seeing Topol in his last tour of "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Orpheum in Memphis last year. Yes, a little older, but he was still funny and fantastic!

Thank you for sharing this! What a delight to see Topol performing as Teyve live! :)
Just got back from the show.
It was amazing and a wonderful time at the theatre!

I saw this tour at the Segerstrom when I was 20. Incredible!
I've seen the play I dont know how many times. It never gets old great movie
An amazing song! I love the flute in the background when the "daughters" sing. Topol's voice is so unique!
Where is this?
GOD. the greatest opening of a musical ever, with the quintessential actor in the leading role. *sigh* a once in life time experience.
I would have LOVED to have seen this wonderful staged version of Fiddler!!! I absolutely LOVE Topol and the music in this. I saw the farewell tour in LA. Wow. When he walked on stage, the audience gave him a standing ovation for two solid minutes before he said a word!
I was able to see him twice. He was brilliant.
I had the pleasure of seeing Topol twice! He really is amazing!

I was so happy to be in my school's summer production of this. You could say that we followed in this shows production, because i got to play Fruma Sarah.

I am from India and I also played the character of rabbi when my school staged the play. It was a wonderful experience.

Where was this performed? Does anybody have the whole show, or any other clips from the tour? Wish I could have seen him live!
Omg I saw this at the golden gate theatre a few weeks ago but a different guy was tevye he had a rough voice the one I saw and I just finished being in it a lot of fun!!

Wish video was a bit closer and clearer but this is great
@michee67 It's not one of the daughters. I think bethnee9989 is saying the character Miryla who is one of the villagers. Tevye's 5 daughters' names are Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava, Shprintze, and Bielke.

this is so good.
My word that's good!!!
So who are the cast? What production is this? A little information, please.
The man playing Tevye is Topol, the same ne who played the role in the film version.
I believe this is the Australian production starring Topol who, as dmnemaine said, starred in the film version of 'Fiddler' as Tevye the Milkman.
+Larry Gott This is the 2009-2010 North American Tour. I am 100% certain as I was in it. Looking for footage and just saw your question now. Hope this helps!
+dmnemaine Thank you.
+faeryquene thank you.
Whoa! Topol was in this!? I wish I was in this play!

Post more of him please? :3
Did you record this with a potato !??!
He puts the tuber in UA-camr.
Omg
Dude, you know that they, in general, always tell you no recording plays unless you are being paid,
we're performing this in my school :3 I made part of ensemble :D
The truth: It wasn't a horse or a mule! It was a pair of coconuts that were being clapped together!
I saw Zero Mostel in the original on broadway...wowwwwwwwwww
Does anyone know what year this was?
+Alexis Dazley I believe this was from Topol's farewell tour, which was in 2009.
Mazeltov! 😊
