Honestly T100 is the hardest triathlon circuit if you're not a front pack swimmer. So for you to do these races again and again is really impressive and honestly super motivating. Keep pushing and one day you'll get at the front too!
Look where Sam Laidow is today and where you were at the Collins Cup interview - life is a journey that is not to be taken for granted. True to your trade!
Both Sam and Lionel create content, I don't see Sam and Lionel even remotely close in comparison. I can't follow Lionel, he's a complete self doubter, Sam's positive mindset is complete opposite and knows he belongs on the podium, as he should. Alpha yo yo yo Sam in 2025 !
Damn dude. I didn't catch the post-race interviews and I'm so grateful you included yours in this video. Insane respect for you being vulnerable like this, and then choosing to show it on your channel. This moves people more than you know, and I think your rawness and boldness to show up in this way is one of the best things you've given to the sport yet. Thank you
Sam, I love this! As a low tier pro who has to work a full time manual labor job, I've always operated on the assumption that I could be world class if I didn't have to work... but the grass isn't always greener on the other side, I've always admired what you're able to do with your swim deficit. it's probably ignorance that leads me to think what i think about my abilities... We (your fans) all know how hard you work, lack of effort and time has nothing to do with the lack of front pack swimming. It may always be a battle and it's hard to know the reality of whatever it is that makes amazing swimmers move through the water the way you can move on land. But I want you to know this video solely is helping me digest and accept that I've done what I can with what I have and to be happy with whatever indian wells brings me as my swan song. I loved to hate you for a while when you were fresh in the sport, but I've loved to cheer for you even more these last few years as I've gotten to know what glimpses of the man there is behind the athlete. Keep the mind strong and do what you can with what you have, the universe will give us back what we put in. #yoyoyo
@@trilife93 let’s go and yes sometimes no matter how hard we work and how much focus we put in we don’t get exactly to where we want…but hopefully with continuing to experiment I can figure it out
You’re an excellent role model, proving that if you grit your teeth you can still pull it through, no matter what happens. You admit your weakness (swim) and are working on it. You’ll be on the podium before too long.
I’m just a 56 year old age grouper - used to swim competitively when I was young and so the swim is my best event. However I stuck at running and here is where I loose places. You can’t be a good swimmer by being swim fit - you have to feel the water and get that click with the technique. This takes time and perserverence. You MUST focus on this now whilst you’re still young. I echo all of the wonderful comments that have been posted. I love your passion and determination - showing emotion shows you care. Jan advised you before the race to swim, swim and then still swim for the next few months. Like Lionel this would do both of you soooo much good if you could bridge the gap on the swim. I hope you follow this advice now when you’re still young and have many years still ahead of you. For Lionel it’s too late but not for you. Enjoy the off season. Best wishes!💪💪💪
Just be thankful the rest of the field can’t bike run like you can. Keep on grinding that swim! We love watching you race. As a struggling swimmer myself, you provide me so much inspiration in the way that you battle out there.

I watch your races Sam and have never commented but wanted to say you have been fantastic to watch race. Even your T100 interviews are amazing. Excited to see you podium and win even more races. You’re a legit weapon.
Sam, u r one of the best in the world. I see it quite plain: Ur capacity has clearly a victory in disguise that u showed not only but in particular for me in Singapore. All the rest was achieved inspite of fatigue that built up quite heavily on u over the course of the season. This fatigue hits all of us so differently. The swim was always one factor yet didnt hinder u to do the great Singapore. Thus, imho, if u could manage ur recovery a bit better - maybe less is more and def not looking at others' programs - and rised ur swim a notch over the winter and in the next season, which u will but take ur time, then ull grap the trophy, promised. Kudos on a great season! It was a great year for you. You know where the issues are…. You also know that it’s not a 5 minute fix! I think a long season converged with a long travel and a tough race experience here. Brutal schedule. Refresh yourself… rest, get your swimming prioritized and start working on it! You are primed to get this ready for next season! No injuries, strong run, strong bike - and you got time to work on the swim. You should be stoked! I can’t wait to see what you do next season!

Hey Sam. You did really well this season and ending 6th is an achievement many, or actually most, can only ever dream about. That said you might have bitten off a bit more than you could chew with the number of races this season, possibly not allowing the physical and not least the mental recovery enough time to bounce back where it needs to be. I hope you make the most of the off-season and find the training and racing spirit within you, and the motivation, and the love for the sport, and get ready for a smoking hot 2025.
Hello Sam! It was very hard for me to watch the beginning of this video recap... I was happy to read a lot, a lot of positive comments from your fans around the World. That says it all! It was so good, well not good but at least I was heartwarmed, to see the emotions in Dubai. You did so well this year and when you find a good swimsquad you will even be better. You know for sure now, you (and Lionel) have to swim better next year! Come on!!
If you would’t have that mentally you would not be the athlete you are. Cheer up, be thankful which sometimes is hard and get back to work on that swim. Hey Sam! I'm certainly not one to give advice but here's a crazy thought - what if you only did swimming for a full year? No tri racing, only swim meets. (Obviously with a good coach) And forget about the two other disciplines for a while, not quit doing them altogether of course, but no competitions. We often hear about athletes that are injured for a full season that bounce back the following year, so I don't think your fitness will be super hard to repair. And then maybe you would come back into the game with a new confidence where you discover that you are in the mix after the swim. Not necessarily front pack but in the mix. That would presumably give you a completely different feeling starting your bike and run. (Maybe difficult to keep sponsors this way, I dunno, just a thought.) Regardless of what your next move is, we will continue to follow your journey and root for you as you are one of the biggest inspirations out there!
I have found your approach and energy brilliant for the sport. You’re doing great - have a fab off season, take a real break and the lessons for you will come automatically… Thanks for the vids

You are so authentic Sam! We all love that. Take a rest and love on your family. Next year I’m certain you’ll find a way to stay in the pack during the swim and then those boys are in big trouble. Super excited for you!
Was nice to watch you race live in Dubai Sam. You are big inspiration and motivation! Keep it up! Wish you fast recovery after season and some quality time off with your family. 😊

You are an inspiration Sam. So much to be positive about. Don't beat yourself down. We know you have the highest standards but you should be proud of yourself. Can't wait to see the package you're going to bring to 2025
Sam, what a great season ! I wished to have your strong personality during my time as an athlete. You managed to finished half way with the best athlete! Amazing Sam, stay healthy and enjoy family and time off. Happy Holidays!
I am a 52 yr old that’s just learning to swim, my tri mates allways said you should do triathlon because my bike and run is so strong and i allways said i don’t float im crap at swimming BUT 12 weeks ago i decided to try, lots of you tube lessons and 5 days a week in the pool before work now i can do 1.30 pace and feel like i’m jogging, will i ever keep up with lucy CB probably not but i can see a way to getting faster yes you have inspired me and probably so many more big love believe and strive for your best !
Great performance all around, hard to stay up and positive, embrace the low and understand that your body/mind/soul all need a well deserved rest. Stay away from social media during your rest. Not sure what to suggest to help with the swim but maybe reach out to M.Phelps coach and maybe they have some suggestions. Also maybe ask what strengthening ideas they use for swimmers. Just a thought, wishing you, Laura and Leo many blessings in the new year. Happy Gobble Gobble, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We love you cause your human, enjoy the off-season and i amount the tens of thousands of Sam Long fans can’t wait to see you back on coarse on 2025 Yo Yo yo❤
Have a good rest it was well earned. I think you have to decide between T100 and Ironman Pro Series next year. It will be very difficult to excel at both. You will place better in my opinion in the Ironman Pro Series. If you don't come out with the front swim pack in the T100, your chances are slim to do well as the swim pack is large enough to stay ahead on the bike. You're already qualified for Nice so 2 half's (Oceanside, Eagleman) and 3 full ironman's (Texas, Lake Placid, Nice) is enough in one year. Don't burn yourself out. Take some good time off, enjoy time with your family and come back fresh next year. Don't over-race.
Thanks for showing us the rough parts of the sport. It inspires us all to keep trying when it all feels so hard. Did you have any support crew there for you in Dubai? That always makes it harder when you are alone. Knowing you supporters are there on the sidelines keeps you going. Enjoy ur off season and family time 😊
Sam, you will figure it out! Imagine Sam Laidlow coaching Sam Long on the swim. This is the best sport. Triathlon brings out the best in one another regardless. T100 will make you a better triathlete in the long run.
Strongest man on the circuit! Real men cry, that shows true passion and grit!!!! Certified Champ always !
Honestly T100 is the hardest triathlon circuit if you're not a front pack swimmer. So for you to do these races again and again is really impressive and honestly super motivating.

You are such an inspiration for all of us!! Keep pushing!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Pro athletes in triathlon are great personalities as well as incredibly dedicated and focused sportsmen. This sport definitely has a great future!!
Thank you for being real. You are an inspiraation. 😊😊
Much love, Sam!
You and Laidlow still owe us some memorable battles! Maybe go on for pool school to La Casa de Laidlow ... couple of weeks working on that swim! 🙌🏼

Brother is not your fault you don’t have a swimming background. I know you’ll breakthrough. You’re amazing dude.
You are an inspiration Sam. Would it be a great idea for you and Lionel to swim together with a coach for the entire up coming season?
Awesome season , man!
Enjoy ur off season and family time 😊
We love you Sam.
You had a great season. Congratulations :). Wow Leo is growing fast.
Sam, you will figure it out! Imagine Sam Laidlow coaching Sam Long on the swim. This is the best sport. Triathlon brings out the best in one another regardless. T100 will make you a better triathlete in the long run.
keep with the good work and the grit, the rest will come.
I surpased about 600 guys in an IM this year on the bike. I feel You.
