I love seeing your autorama videos because then I know Cleveland autorama is around the corner and this year I have two go karts entered and I can't wait
That's awesome.... I assume the past two builds. I'd like to make it to the Cleveland Autorama one year. I'd like to enter my Trikeabout one year also. Do you enter with a club or group of like minded people, or just by yourself?
@@OldCarAlley yea the two most recent and that would be cool to see you at the show one year and I believe your trike would take first in it's class and I've been entering alone
Tnank you for the video. I used to drive past the "Golden Pontiac" everyday on my way to work at Pontiac Motor. It sat at the corner of East Blvd and Mt Clemons street at a Standard gas station. A for sale sign in the window for $1600. In 1964 that was about half the price of a new Pontiac. I believe it was owned by a Larry Thaxton at that time. Wish I could have afforded it. Gary Oliver
I haven’t been to Autorama since 2001 , that year my boss , Kemps Rods & Restoration, had his hand formed all aluminum ,in bare aluminum , roadster parked front and center at FORDS display , Dan knows how to make noise , and his car was Perfect ! Very few impress me , Dan was impressive ! Plus my George Barris autographed shirts , still tucked away , in safe keeping , Good Time ! Dan paid for everything , nice guy ! A Real Fabricator !
Thanks for taking us along Howard. I thoroughly enjoyed that. I have the same liking for the flat head Ford engines. In 1964-5 my mate and I fully reworked a 5 window, 35 Canadian Club Coupe engine down here in Victoria. It had the original Ford aluminium heads and intake manifold. We hand sanded and polished those heads and manifold to shine like glass. Took us months. That engine had the sweetest sound that you would ever hear.
Yea, I think the Ford flathead is one of my favorite engines. I love the look and sound of them. They just scream cool, especially the built ones. They're hands down my favorite built for performance engine.
What a nice treat to look at these beauties on a winter day. I especially liked the Chevelle SS 396 wagon and the 62 Catalina and the bronze 67 Coronet R/T and the black Charger, and the 59 Pontiac "El Camino", and the 59 Rambler Rebel wagon. What a treat to see the 63 Impala low mileage survivor from Lambrecht Chevrolet. And looking at the 56 Mark II, what a contrast to the one that Scott & Jim are resurrecting up at CWM. And as a fan of Malaise era cars (once so common & gutless and unliked, but now so rare to see), I liked the 1974 Pontiac GTO, that was behind the 1950 Ford shoebox convertible.
Yea, that 396 SS wagon was sweet. The 67 Coronet R/T's paint was to die for.... it was perfect! The 59 Rebel wagon was a complete and total sleeper..... I loved it! I would love to own a 56 Lincoln Mark, I have a soft spot for Lincoln's. The NOS 63 Impala is a perfect car to see how they rolled off the assembly line, if you're doing a true concourse back to factory restoration..... I end up over restoring everything, so it still will look good after years and many miles of use. I like a lot of the emission era gutless wonder cars too, like the huge GM tanks of the mid 70's..... All my 70's and 80's era cars were really good reliable cars, buying them already as high milage cars and driving most well over 200,000 miles on their odometer..... Most of my everyday cars were Ford's.... but did have some GM and Chrysler products. The 70's era cars were rust buckets, but by the 80's the rust was not as big of an issue it was in the 70's.
Looked like a great Show!! Philly used to have a great Custom Car show back in the 70's, wish they would bring that back!! You should have overdubbed the silent parts, the best part of the show is your commentary and uplifting stories!!☻
I thought about dubbing over, but just seeing what I was videoing I thought was good enough. I can't stand UA-cam's music clips, so I'd rather have silence! Whenever I'm watching a video, and someone puts in UA-cam music, I hit mute instantly.
I enjoyed the Auto show. I worked in and around Pierce Nebraska where Lambrecht Chevrolet was in the early 80's. You could look in the windows of the dealership and see a few old cars. There was a lot across the street that had a few old vehicles. I remember a 1963 C10 pick-up with 3 miles on it. It had sat outside for so long that the wood in the bed had rotted away. One of my coworkers told me that there wasn't any use to ask about buying anything, because they wouldn't sell anything.
A friend on a road trip, back in the late 80's found Lambrect Chevrolet, and took photos to show me. On his return threw there, he tried to see about purchasing a vehicle or two. They wouldn't sell him any of them. We were both dumbfounded that a car dealer wouldn't sell their used cars. More money is made on used cars than new ones. Very odd. The auction was really hyped up, driving the prices above market value. At the time I drove a car transport for a company that made paddy wagons, ambulances and wheelchair vans. I delivered them all over the country. My boss was awesome and let me load whatever I wanted to bring home on the transport. It was rare I came home without a car or two. I could have brought a few cars back from Lambrect no problem. I had a list of cars friends and acquaintances wanted away from the rust belt. If I found one on the list, I'd buy it, bring it back and sell it to them making a little extra money for myself. If they didn't want it after bringing it home, I'd put an ad in the local paper.... it would be sold in quick order.
NO old cars are cheap! What I was getting at, is that every show, cruise and car event I go to, I see many 57 Chevy's, a ton of Camaro's and cars alike..... I get it, people want, recognize and like them, but I find them boring, because so many are out there. I like seeing things that are not common! The more unusual, the more "I" like it.
Hey Howard I want a Sick BBQ hot dog! I thought the same thing about the '60 Pontiac. I thought it was an Oldsmobile. Thank you for bringing us along. Haven't been to the Autorama since Covid. Didn't realize it was on. Just getting back from the Keys. I can't remember if I told you that my Belair was going to be presented in the current Hagerty magazine. Let me know if you are able to look at a copy. We are now both in print! I've talked with the owner of the '63 Lambrect Impala. He's got a lot of money tied up in it. I mention to him about my Belair too.
Working on my Mark five right now. Howard thinking of you? What would you do? Enjoyed Autorama immensely like I was there. Thank you for taking the time to do that. What a beautiful, historical heartland city you live in. Best regards George from the south west.
Yes, that 59 Pontiac El Camino looked totally factory.... it was amazing. I remember watching the auction at Lambrecht Chevrolet. That New Old Stock 63 Chevy sold for big bucks as I remember.
@@OldCarAlley The Pontiac/ElCamino is perfect. Hope it won. That Lambrecht auction was baffling, some of the cars that sat outside were major projects and people were paying like they were perfect. I wonder the fate of all of the rest of those auctioned cars.
@@tomp1612 I was watching a UA-camr that was restoring a blue 59 Bel Air four door, that was the mechanic for Lambrecht. He was doing a full frame off restoration. He had all the rust repaired and did an amazing job..... then all of a sudden just stopped working on it and putting up videos. For what most people paid, and the cost in getting them back on the road, without a restoration, they all exceeded their value.... you would have had to want the particular car or just own a Lambrecht Chevrolet to keep, because you were going to make zero dollars of the car!. I have seen some resell on eBay for less than what they paid at the auction.
