    My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Bayviews GC on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne and the Lang Lang GC in South Gippsland (both an hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
    FAQ:
    How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
    Why do you make videos for UA-cam? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
    Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
    So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
    What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
    What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
    Do you make money off UA-cam? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
    I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
    Thanks for watching!

    An enormous thank you Brian, for your input into my last 4 years of golf at Lang Lang. This input culminated in winning the B grade nett Ch.ship in November,just before my 84th.Birthday. A Birdie on the 9th was the highlight of my nett 70 for the final round. Blessings for Christmas and good luck for your next venture at Eastern. ❤❤ 😊😊

    Another great putting tip Brian on "lag putting!" Over the years, I feel that I have been a fairly decent putter. I have always set a goal of being around 30 putts per round! Your suggestion of judging the swing based on tossing a ball underhand is a good one and one I have used. I like your tempo suggestion of thinking "tick tock" when making the swing and keeping the head still for at least three seconds after striking the putt! I have been successfully using several of your previous putting tips to my advantage! Will do the same here!!! All Good! Well Done Brian!!!

    A great lesson. Will have to practice indoors as the weather is frosty one minute and raining the next. Nice wet course at present. So indoor practice.... don't want to lag behind!!

    Morning Brian,
    Another excellent video. Really enjoyed this one. I tend to struggle on these long putts. I'm guilty of the short backswing. Now I have something to work on. Thanks Brian.
    Cheers

    Great advice, Brian. What I do sonetimes is look at the target while putting. It works quite well for distance control as long as the set up is good.

    Thanks Brian, very timely, as other than a handful of warm up long putts before a round I've been neglecting the long putt practise, so a much needed kick up the ****. I'm also giving you guitar teacher brownie points for your internal tempo control matching the metronome clicks!

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  10 місяців тому +1

      Was that a pun Adi timely.....
      Well done.
      Before there were things called apps I had a metronome for the subject of music in year 8 at school.
      I used it for putting far more than I used it for music.....
      I took it everywhere with me when I played for a living.
      So I have being using it since 1978. I would hope I am good at syncing my stroke to it after all that time. I also use it for chipping (the same speed).
      I used to busk once upon a time. I was so bad people paid me to stop and move on.....
      I also had a band at one stage we called ourselves Fat Wedge and the Divots......
      We were much better golfers.
      Keep working on the lag putts Adi and now you have 3 things you can work on.

    Thanks Brian, good tips. I am sometimes guilty of looking up. I’ve found that putting left hand down (for a right handed golfer) encourages you to stay down.

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  10 місяців тому

      It sure does. Quite often when someone changes to left hand low they putt well straight away due to the better strike with the putter staying lower.

    I think I take a shorter backswing to improve striking the centre of the putter more consistently. Should I just practice longer backswing more?

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  10 місяців тому +1

      I think that would be a good idea along with keeping your putter lower in the follow through to help with a more centered contact.

      thanks for your reply mate, l do add my own line on my balls as per an earlier suggestion by you on an earlier video. Sometimes your just off the green where you cant line up your ball, or l try to find a target in the green ie a blade off grass in line with the hole but find lm a little off target must times. Love your videos and only wish you were closer to the northern suburbs of Vic re getting a lesson .

      Practicing picking a spot is well worth practicing (few people ever do this). You would be amazed what happens if you spend a few minutes just working on the skill of picking a spot. The key here is to pick the spot within 2 feet of your ball. The closer the better.
      I would love to help you at some stage.
      I will be running some special coaching events over summer so it might be worth an hours drive for several hours of coaching.
      I will be posting them on my website shortly (thegolfdoctor.com.au) or you could subscribe to my weekly newsletter and be kept informed of all of my events (also on my website).

    About 35 to 40 years ago, I was on the Practice Green doing just this - 3 Balls all about 50 some odd Feet from the Target Hole.
    This Practice Green sits directly in Front of the Entrance to the Pro Shop. An old Teaching Pro, named Puggie, walked out the Door, stopped and watched me Stroke two Decent Lag Putts, and then said, "Mac, what the Hell do you think you are doing?" I replied, "Practicing my Putting, Pug."
    He then said, "If you have Putts that F@{ king LONG, Go down to the Range and HIT your Irons!"
    Pretty much, since then I Practice from two Distances, 6-8 Feet and 15-25 Feet.
    When it is quiet on the Green, I set a circle of 6 of those small plastic "thumbtack" style Ball Markers at 13 inches from the Edge of the Hole for those 15-25 footers. My goal is to get the Ball inside the Circle and have it stop. The ones that do that, and Don't Drop In, leave me Tap Ins. 😊

      The average first putt length on the PGA Tour when they hit the green is 37 feet. The best golfers in the world.
      They practice a lot of putts between 30 and 50 feet. They average 12 greens in regulation per round as well.
      Your practice routing is great. I would just add a little more length to it.
