Ok, I enjoy all of your Prince videos or postings or whatever these things are called but you didn't mention or discuss anything WE ALL didn't already know. I thought I was going to hear you say something new, something original that wasn't already known?
I say a lot of stuff and I strive to educate but if you knew everything I said that’s awesome! Means you are already on that level! Pat yourself on the back. Maybe the next video will be more enlightening for you. Cheers!
that kind of attitude can be a double edged sword, sure it can give your the courage to stand up for yourself, but it can also make you an insensitive dick that no one wants to hang around.
If you spend time worrying what other people think it can hold you back and it's a waste of time. That doesn't make you an insensitive dick. IF YOU LET OTHERS ACTIONS AND WORDS AFFECT YOUR ACTIONS AND WORDS YOU ARE GIVING THEM POWER OVER YOU!!!!!! YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL YOURSELF BUT SOME CAN'T EVEN DO THAT!!
Prince wasn’t perfect, he had his moments of hurting people and pitching a fit when things didn’t go right but he has a higher purpose, I respect him so much for sticking to his guns and putting up the good fight with his record company to own his music. At the end of the day, making great music and pleasing his fans/friends was all that really mattered and that he did so very well. RIP Prince, you’ll never be forgotten.
Eye still think he's the most talented and smartest artists ever. Just look at his fan base now and how many thousands of new fans there r because of his music and his rep doesn't matter.
i can only imagine! i completely understand how my comment appears, i can dig it. always great content on the purple yoda. i remember when prince had us all click on a webpage with ‘feel good feel better feel wonderful’ as the only content in response to his internet litigations and i think why the musicclub was gone. like a straight boss! that blew me away how slick that was. still a top 20 fave tune of mine in prince’s catalogue.
Prince was in the fight for his career, his independence and most importantly ownership of his music. So he had to do things to some extreme to be heard and to get what he wanted, it took him all his career to obtain ownership of his music, he scarficed dying to have his music. God bless him and Inthank him for paving the way and setting an example to you artist to own their music.💜
I've been to 7 Prince concerts, 2 were free at Tower Records (God rest it’s soul in the US) & no matter what...there is no one better of a musician & artist than the incomparable Prince🤩
In many regards, I always viewed Prince as a sort of a child star, but a brilliant one. A calculated one. He was literally growing up before our eyes and with so many albums, we literally got to experience the transformations as they happened....I've always seen him the way I would see a child - vulnerable, shy, sometimes immature, innocent, insecure, kind, generous, authentic, guarded as well as free, mischievous We saw it all from "the kid"
@@tc6664 the similarities are undeniable Both grew up in the midwest Both were in the music business early in life The daddy issues The shyness, the loneliness The perfectionism Ect
Tavis Smiley's very first Bet interview with Prince was the start of his " Freedom" journey to be a TRUE artist.💜 He was a musician's musician. He was well ahead of his time !!! Perfect analysis.
I loved when he said "Real Music by real musicians " because he always picked quality musicians to play with his bands .That is one of the things I enjoy about Prince music always tight and well rehearsed togetherness .He knew we the purple Family would follow him whatever he put out .All the different Types of music he could play .Yes from the beginning it was his way or NO way .Cant blame him for that ,he could do it all himself so didn't need a producer etc etc .This may have made him awkward to work with ,although this gave him the very Prince sound .Noone else could hear the sound he had in his own head . He was one of a kind I don't think he cared about reputation ,just getting the music put down that was his joy .Thank you for another great video PF.
An important point: I think he was so protective of his work (he said it’s not just about the money; it’s about respect) to leave an example for other artists to follow. I don’t think it was mostly for his wallet; I think this was his way of setting a precedent to show others who might fall into business traps how to operate. After all, that was one of his main goals musically in helping others.
I agree with “M” , is was not just money but respect of musicians all. Lots of ripping artists off back then. U R right he never sucked. Loved P always 💜
Yes Prince knew exactly how to Market himself he did the strategically and he did it very well and it suited him to his image and what he wanted to have us view as his image. He was way ahead of his time in all aspects of his career and it's a shame that they killed him well I believe they killed him nevertheless he was the greatest artist that ever lived in this life and the next thank you princess friend I couldn't agree with you more
I bet Prince wanted to overthrow the entire music system which is looking like it's very chaotic internet has better music while the mainstream radio just plays the same old same old garbage artists every 2 seconds.
I very much admire that from our beloved, he never looked at himself thru other people’s eyes.. He was entirely in connection with himself, and couldn’t care less what whoever thought of it. That is the reason his music and everything he created was so special and pure and unique away from corruption of money and other distractions, straight from within, he was pure love 😍 O(+>
Prince is a Rock Star He lived His life in the eyes of the people There’s no way to please everyone so please yourself first Prince lived as it Pleased Himself He Did it His Way He tried to give everyone their due respect but no one is perfect He did His best to Do unto others as He expected them to do unto Him He weren’t looking for or asking for no more or no less than He gave BOTTLINE PRINCE LOVED AND RESPECTED EVERYONE EVEN IF AT TIMES HE DID NOT COME ACROSS THAT WAY IF YOU TRULY KNOW PRINCE YOU KNOW IN HIS HEART HE LOVE AND RESPECTED EVERYONE THAT WAS IMPORTANT TO PRINCE FORGIVE THE MAN IF HE SLIPPED A FEW TIMES p.s I feel relevant when I have Haters
Most of us are governed by outside forces, manifested as fear of what other might say about us, fear of loosing our jobs etc if we don't conform to the culture. To me Prince was always governed by his inner beliefs. They could change and therefore many of his actions seem paradoxial. In my opinion he searched for his true self his entire life. In this way he became a modern sage as you have pointed out. Like Faust in Goethe's "The Divine comedy" he walked the paths only the brave among us dear to follow. Most of us Accept the role(s) given to us by our parents/community/society. Prince never let himself be defined by anyone other than himself. Even the JW community could not define him - he clearly moved on in his last years. I admire his creativity, his skills and work-etics. But most of all I admire his courage to explore and change as a true follower of Appolon. On the gate of his Temple in Ancient Greek were the Words: "Know thyself".
Artists with integrity are few and far between. As the Englishman in Hangzhou has pointed out, Prince 'never lost his integrity'. Because of that, he never lost that rare God-given creativeness. He honored his creative spirit within and was creatively-alive 'til the end of his earthy time. Few artists can pull that off!
When Prince first hit the airwaves, I thought of his music as something different, over the top and way out there! However, as his rep grew and his music went from one thing to another, I started to dislike him for his jumping around and not staying true to the music. WRONG! I discovered that his talents were vast as well as his style, hair and complete chameleon-like appearance that showed off his many layers of being human and into life. That was when I began to really listen and quit being subjective about what I thought he would be better doing. Prince had a style of his own that no one can recreate or come close to ever doing- at least not in this millennium! That was something that I knew right then and there that he was a man into his own. A man into living a dream. A man surprising the world with a combination of being both man and woman, but altogether a person with high qualities of talent, style, and perseverance. I envied Prince because of his style, unique appearance and altogether "'Don't Give A Fuck What the World Thinks about what I do', but hear my talent as it ranges from Hard rock to classic blues and psychedelic rhythm that involves both the listener and the world. Prince drew in the listener, the world, nature, and all around emotions that touched each and every person in a special way. Although there are a lot of songs I don't really get into, there were those that really touched me in such a special way that it couldn't be recreated. Prince was a man of uniqueness, a man of honest quality, a man who knew how to hit those right moods and nerves. But he was also a man with a foresight to knowing what to do with music, style, and persona that he held the world in a continuous hypnotic state. I could go on and on about Prince but it would end up being a very long novel that would eventually become stagnantly monotonous with a very cool and uplifting ending. There will never be another like him. And, don't think there ever will be. Thank God! It would be like these Michael Jackson look-a-likes and Elvis impersonators. He could never be imitated, copied or brought down to the form of holographic illusion-although that would scary! He is the best, will always remain the best and most talented, but a man with a true vision of what a dream was meant to look like!
I am so glad Prince was versatile musician. That is what I love about him. He was always changing. Granted he made mistakes and decisions that may hurt his reputation but I think he knew what he was doing and wasn't that concern. I love music that is different in sound. There is a lot of music out there that all sound the same and it is hard to know who the artist is. I am old school I when it comes to live music and bands. Thank you Prince's Friend for the information.
Imo, I never thought he put his reputation on the line.. He IS music, no one will ever take that away from him. Prince fought long and hard for the rights to his own music and I think if it was just about the money, he would've said screw u to the exec's(which he basically did anyway) and did what he did- which was make music! ✌💜
All truly great figures of history buck the system, and Prince was no different. He followed his inner compass and didn't really cater to what was popular, he fought hard against conforming and I LOVED HIM FOR THAT. Very few artists put out music that is truly distinctive and comes from that deep well. I always thought Kate Bush had a similar attitude and trajectory, they were born within a month of each other and entered the business as teenagers hitting the charts in 1978. Both were shy, eccentric, utterly unique, self-contained, stubborn, theatrical, trail-blazing, beautiful other-worldly creatures (genius). They entered music while punk rock was going strong, maybe the DIY (do-it-yourself) attitude of that generation was internalized.
When I first heard Prince when I was 14 yrs old. I dismissed him as a flamboyant MJ pop wannabe. I only heard 1999. Then, Under the Cherry Moon came out a friend of mine was playing album tracks that were not on the radio. Within, 2 weeks I bought every album Prince ever made, he became and is my favorite artist ever..
Prince started all of it in the pic of the 70's with the Egyptian Anhk necklace Or using the Marcus Garvey flag in the America Video. Prince even despise the Motown sound. Rip To the Purple Yoda
He has been a musician/singer since he was a kid, released his first studio album in 1978, starred in three popular movies, wrote songs for other singers and aspiring singers. He recorded 39 studio albums, many live albums, compilations, movie soundtracks, etc.
Great video, I think the way in which Prince downplayed his own image could be connected with his religious views, maybe he recognized that he shouldn't be an idol, one that is always held to a high standerd perhaps; i'm not sure it's just a thought. Either way, I love how he was always ever changing. It certainly makes it more interesting for us discussing his music haha! Love and peace always purple fam!
Prince's awareness and consciousness of many things EVOLVED as he grew as a man and he wanted to make changes. Many people do not welcome change and they want an artist to remain as they knew him. It appears Prince kept his self-integrity regardless of the consequences so we have to admit he was a strong man who did not succumb readily to what others expected him to be, do or say. So Kudos to Prince for being true to himself and what he determined was of paramount importance. Sometimes evolution requires the destruction of your old reputation/image especially if you are trying to promote something new or different and this is due to the resistance. One of the best ways to bring attention to an issue or promote change is to be, do or say something controversial or something strikingly different. In many cases this is what Prince did. I don't believe Prince was trying to hurt himself or anybody as much as he was trying to bring about changes but in his attempts, the results became double edged swords.
after internet artists got to struggle to make money, we can find any music on the internet for free, Prince didn't have proper people to take care of this for him...I imagine his stress
Arguably the greatest and most misunderstood Gemini ever. The era majority of PRN media was prohibited from this site is what helped me discover a lot more of related music, uber rarities in top quality which I no longer have thanks to thieves.in.the.temple robbing my 5tb hdd😢, but I've got the exciting memories. Honest story I lose my personal property (HDD housing endless irreplaceables) at the start of Feb... by late April Prince was gone....On that same evening, the girl I felt I'd marry called my phone to breakaway... This was the worst combination of emotions one could dream to bear in a short span. tbh I was in ways still mourning Michaels death when I lost the Harddrive... nursing myself of the stolen harddrive when we lost Prince, then she crushes me more after waking up to Prince on FB. Safe to say I was in to get 2016 behind me thereon. Prince's art seen me through a lot before '16...so when I anguish at the battles he might have faced for his final 25 years, I hope the art helped do him a similar justice personally.
Prince swung on a pendulum. Sometimes he was cool. Sometimes he was mysterious. Sometimes he was weird. He was willing to experiment and change and break norms and all of these things will turn off a certain percentage of people at any given time.
Love your summary..Yes some of Prince’s decisions did work against him, especially at the time of the Symbol, when the media took full advantage of him and were constantly saying stuff like his name was was “Squiggle” and calling him weird etc Prince being a true Gemini, and a genius, disliked being a “cookie cut out” for record companies...who wanted to mould him and limit his creativity, for the sake of lining their own pockets. He loved and was motivated by his music, other musicians and by fams, who loved him and his true creativity. Prince fell out with every record company he worked for, because he wanted them to work with him. In later years he came away from Universal who were collecting the money for his royalties, and he was losing a great deal of money. His issues appeared to stem from his issues with the record companies.
Well. I get it what Prince was trying to do and what he had to sacrifice to do it. It was the right thing to do. And he's the only one who had enough BALLS TO DO IT!!! Pardon my french)... He went his own way. Did his own thing. Didnt care what anyone thought about him. And i respect that.. Now hurting others to get what you want. I dont agree with that. However .. mad props to Prince. I dont know of any other artist who actually did it their way...
Being yourself goes with paying such a high price. Uncle Prince wheeeeew , no words just love for that effort and how we are blessed to witness. It was when I turned 44, that I honestly and with no self hatred, envy or reservations could thank Prince for the beauty he shared, whilst in much loneliness. Being who you are in this world is heavy, only the very few can do it, in the midst of fame and white supremacy/racism even less. He had a difficult time and reacted just like anyone else. Imagine the music he plays now. Uncle Prince helped me to really appreciate me and be better to others, from depth of my depression. May he be blessed no one has ever touched my heart more than that personality and his music, and I listen to plenty deep and beautiful music.
I think people fail to put themselves in others shoes. And they often marginalize or discredit the struggles of others. Thanks for explaining this all 👏🙏👍
Though he was a sweet, gentle, and a sensitive soul, but he did have a secret IDGAF attitude towards his record company and to others in all the right ways and didn't care how his rep turned out. If only I could have the same thinking as him. No matter how people don't like him, how hurt their feelings are, and judging the book by its cover, and all that, I still love him no matter what and no matter what he did as long as he did good deeds. He was a lovely man with a lovely complex soul. 💜
I never leave comments but truly PF you are a true prince friend I didn't even acknowledge prince till they said something on the radio this past April never really listened to his music the only song i really remembered from him was cream and that was because of the music video on MTV. I have recently become the biggest prince fan ever and it's so great to have someone like u to watch and just learn more and more about him. It's awesome for someone like u to keep sharing and hopefully he will always be known for what he wanted to be.... the music
Seems he didn't want people defining / controlling him and later expressed significant distress about not owning his music, and feeling owned by the label (a slave). Being a symbol meant taking control of his art/life... 'Acknowledge Me'. Prince was also an artist in the true sense, in that he followed his muse. 'For You', a complex, layered vocal harmony, isn't a typical rock star career kickoff. Yet George Clinton called Prince the epitome of a rock star. 'Come' is a great album... and 'Solo' more of that divine acapella :) Prince was never an average pop/rock star.
It's funny because a LOT of people who I have spoken with about Prince make the same points u make in this video. For me the way he was about his reputation was one of the things that drew me 2 him
Prince, never sucked! Prince was spiritual later in the years, as we all change some point in our lives from life lessons. He was caring, compassionate, loving, classy, a humanitarian, a great entertainer, agian with much class, professionalism, private, knew what he wanted, hilarious, kind, but most of all, he truly was, The Beautiful One. I'll always love and miss him. Out of all the celebrities I love, Prince is the only one I dreamt about more than five time. Why, I do not know, but it was like we were true friends in every dream. Love you, Prince, and may you forever rest in peace. (RIP)🙏💜🙏
One thing about me I'm from the old school. I never turned my back on the Prince because he had legitimate complaints. Was I ever angry? Never. Because he was in control not me. Not us. But he.... I bought his music for years and faithfully listened to his music. I saw his movies. Now I'm not saying that Prince was perfect. Nope he never was. He touched my soul from the moment I heard his music. It kills me everyday that he's gone. RIP Prince.
Too bad he wasnt known for the truly unbelievably giving soul that he was💜,once he passed, and stories started to flow of ALL the money he donated, and things he gave to others,I wonder how many people felt bad for judging him at all?...who here can say they gave close to what he gave? And,he gave in so many ways its countless!! In the end, that's what matters, he gave us much to speculate on who or what he was for sure, and he did it on purpose...genius!!!
Prince was known to be very stubborn and his way or the high way but he also wanted a image of bigger life... It's probably why it destroyed his career in terms financially. But also his life waiting so long to get help for drug addiction more than not he didn't want it to get out that he had a problem :(
Prince was someone who not only loved music but was a seeker of "Why are we here"... though he always loved God it was part of him... sadly once famous his friends were left behind he isolated himself and died alone.
True geniuses don't think like regular people and are misunderstood oftentimes. Prince was operating at a high level, and did not let people take advantage of him. He had every right to control his music however he saw fit. The "free" music environment is really unfair to artists. Free things aren't really appreciated, I used to save up for CDs and then run down to the record store to get music. It was amazing to get something really good and put it in the CD player. It was a ritual and special, if you got something really amazing it was just the best feeling to sit down and listen with 100% of your attention. It was a cherished item. I loved his little "rebel" self.
im a very proud Prince fan since 1988 (i was 10 or 11) and lovesexy was the cassette i bought as a blind buy and i knew the single alphabet street. good video. u shared some great point princes friend. im gonna look at your patreon page. id love a shout out mike may u live 2 see the dawn bro from canada eh
Prince was always evolving. He kept mystique and this made him sexy, mysterious, and edgy. I love that he was so real, he said what he meant with no apologies! RIP Prince
Prince was Prince. Unique, very talented, and highly intelligent. Not really interested in maximizing his profits or being popular. Unlike many other artists… And by some people known a bit weird, or at least different. Just interested in exploring his musical talents. Extrovert on stage and introvert off stage. Fighting for artistic, (and fair financial rights) for artists. Both Prince (US) and George Michael (UK) deserve more credits for their fight with the big record labels. But being famous from an early age (17) has a downside. Almost impossible to do normal things. Money and fame attracts terrible people. Thrusting people becomes very difficult. And all he really wanted was making music. So he more or less created his own world and rules. And those where different than in the real word. Suing a mother who’s baby was dancing on Purple Rain for a video on UA-cam, is definitely not considered normal. Same goes for recording at night. Wearing high heels at all times. Living in a recording studio… Etc. A smart move to place his world, Paisley Park, in Minnesota. His home ground where he knew the people and environment. Far away from Hollywood, paparazzi and other bad influences. Also a better place because he wanted to keep his private life private.
I was at a concert in the early nineties, and than my music taste changed even though I did listen to his music here and there, but kind of lost track of him. When I heard that he died, that made me really sad. I started listening to his music again and read a lot about him. Found out that he evolved a lot and became very spirituell. He was really wise, smart and of course always so talented. Now I am a huge fan of him. Well I became more spirituell too, so maybe thats why I resonate with him now more. So sad that he is no longer with us. One thing I wonder, did he ever got a plastic surgery? Or do I just imagine that his nose looks kind of smaller later on?
Prince was a walking definition, portrait, image of bravery. If Frank Sinatra said do it my way, Uncle P really did. Talk about skating on a icy lake in the early spring. #rebel
I never expected then or now for artists to work for free. It's his work, his choice and if you don't want to pay for it, you don't have to. You can't live for free, why should he have worked for free. He made things affordable. Not too many today, except maybe Kid Rock, care about that. #RespectPrince 💜
Prince never Sucked he wrote and produced and made his music he should get paid for it I completely understand and get where he's coming from if other so-called artists would try and follow in his footsteps they will show the industry where to go but instead the industry has all control over them but Prince wasn't going to have it and he didn't it!! 💜💜⚘
As a friend I love the fact that he's against popularity and doesn't want anything 2 do with fans that R not fams. I'm kinda tired of the whole Purple Rain era because of Hollywood realm. Glad that Funk was never Hollywood in the 1st place. Glad I have the album Camille because it's not even Hollywood especially Exodus. Pop is pretty much fake wether they made R&B fake or Metal fake. Pop will always be fake. Prince is not fake nor a Pop star. I'm glad that he's just a musician, a per4mer, a songwriter, and a representative person when it comes 2 clothes guitars and any other instruments that is a fashionable statement and feeling Sexy is freedom. He is,was and always will be my hero. Thanks for the post my friend. I really appreciate U. One love!
I loved it. Lol. He knew how to stick the knife in Warner Music, as well as Sony and Columbia. He hated internet because it was easy to bootleg and harder to control your music. His legacy is winning the lawsuit against the music industry over control of his music was at the heart of his self destruct mode and i applauded it. Prince never did anything without intent. A black singer who defeated an entire industry and its practice.....think about that! He is definitely a Legend!
Great video. Loved it almost as much as I love Prince. I think it was only fair that he wanted to be compensated fairly for his labor or, as Prince said (metaphorically) his children. That wasn't to much to ask while living, in light of how many are benefitting monetarily after his death. Thanks for your informative vids.
I love the way Prince stood his ground loved this about him Love your t-shirt love Prince. Happy Saturday to you hope you have a great blessed day 💜💜💜😀😀😀
A lot of the topics that bought up did hurt his career I thought. I also could not understand why he would not support his own releases. The fan sue attacks were a really hard thing to understand and the magazine and website start ups a disappearances were not good things either. But I love him and his music just the same.
Excellent job BROTHER!!!!.........his fight with Warner bros was the reason I left my previous job......one way or a another WE ARE ALWAYS SEEN AS SLAVES......I always knew I was worth more than what THEY THOUGHT!!!!!!!!
❤I don't think anything he did really worked against him because what others thought wasn't the most important thing to him. He wanted to be True to himself & those who were Loyal to him. He changed his name to his symbol to no longer be called Prince to avoid working for WB & promoting only HIS current music & taking songs already recorded in bulk & giving them to WB to put out their own "Prince" albums to satisfy the remainder of his contractual obligations to WB. When that was done he reclaimed his name! His goal was to not be robbed & to own his work. I believe Prince loved us & if we Love him we would've wanted his Freedom more than anything. PRINCELUV4EVER!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I lived this era. I’m almost 50. Prince never sold out like Michael Jackson did. MJ was wholesome. Prince was on a whole different level. To some it seemed like Prince was arrogant. However being sure of yourself and your craft is not arrogant. Incredible Brotha!! I am so glad to have seen him live and in person at Paisley Park (I live in Minnesota) I even got the very last tweet from Prince on my Twitter. REST IN PARADISE PRINCE
Comedian Marvin Howard how did MJ sold out???? I am lost. Both men were themselves one just was respected in the media more than the other. But leave it to Prince fans to compare him to MJ.
Prince's Friend I used MJ in the reference because in that era.....Prince was always compared to the success of MJ. Prince was always considered controversial. The clip you used of Prince refusing to sing We Are The World. We were all reminded how Prince refused to be on the song. His song “Hello” answers what happened.
First, I like your T-shirt. I have a similar one from 90's. :) I really, really respect what Prince did with ATWIAD. I was first disappointed that it was not Purple Rain Vol 2, but I soon realised that Prince is a real artist, and the songs and the musical directions in ATWIAD manifested exactly that.
His reputation sucked, but as far as his music was concerned, it was savage and ahead of its time!! I really cannot judge him on a personal level though, never had the opportunity to meet him.....
Nothing personal, all business, Prince was an business man, that's it, he did all his own music, he didn't have an team of writers and producers doing his songs, he did all that himself, so of course any distribution of his music legally he should be paid for it
You know at the beginning when all the "established " stars wrote him off or thought he was a joke he stuck to what he believed in which was himself!! He didn't care about what the Quincy Jones or the Rick James or the Michael Jackson's were saying...he did it his way, like they did. He brought a brand new funk, a brand new sound which challenged the establishment!! Then when he blew up BOOM, and everyone was on his sh-- he still didn't change. Now, everyone wanted to know who is the cat, who is this dude and he had the BADDEST IDGAF ATTITUDE!!! Cuz when yall was dissing me I kept telling you "I'm good, I'm bad..but now that I've proved it...yall ain't ready for me"! That's what I loved about him!! Peace!!
Exactly! I love these dives into why people don’t like Prince and bursting those bubbles. These types of things Prince did purposefully to root out the people not worth his time. His true friends stuck around. Cheers!
There are certain stages of exploitation that comes with landmark recordings that he wouldn't allow a very powerful company. Believe it or not, this can be very dangerous.
I think that people didn't understand who Prince really was. He was truly ahead of the times, almost as if he was psychic. Look at how many predictions he made in his music that were right on the money, and how he encouraged other musicians to take control of their masters - and they believed him and followed his advice. Every person has a right to their privacy and I feel that celebrities have that right as well. The "rags" exploit them hoping that we "the gullible ones" will believe it and say "Prince Sucks." Great video (as always) and insights into the GOAT!
Dude, channel looking so good! Graphics and everything! We are the world was kinda lame, but for a good cause. That one's a tough call. The rude talk about rap, edm, whatever, was... regrettable, but, no one, not even Prince, especially Prince, is perfect. Feuding with the label, youtube-- might wish he'd have gone about some of it in a different way but otherwise, dude had absolute points. Religion, conspiracies, more of the same. There are lyrics that bother me (some Rainbow Children stuff, etc) but i dont have to love everything Prince to LOVE Prince. Sure, i wish he'd have been the Funk-Pop-Rock Messiah of Interracial/Intersexual Freedom and Justice, but, that's us projecting on him. Everybody gets mad when Superman is late or Batman stubs his toe or Spider-Man gets web in their hair or, turns out, Iron Man cant swim. "Heroes" arent perfect, maybe just for one day, if we're lucky. We need to extend our love to each other as much as we do our "heroes." As Prince said, United States of Division. As Cream said, we're going wrong. Even in our solutions we find conflict. The real rule, do no harm. Well, sorry, tangent. Prince, for those that couldnt get passed the stances, fashions, phrases, conflicts, turns and twists-- y'all missed out. But, these are all opinions. Love4 1another.
I lost a so called friend when I played her the parade album ,and she didn't like it, because it didn't sound like purple rain, I was such a fan I felt rejected, and we mutually started to curve each other 😃 that was in 86

The thing I admired about him was that he really stuck to his guns and didn't give a damn what anyone thought.
that kind of attitude can be a double edged sword, sure it can give your the courage to stand up for yourself, but it can also make you an insensitive dick that no one wants to hang around.
He was a rebel and a dick, I guess that’s a Gemini ♊️ for ya
If you spend time worrying what other people think it can hold you back and it's a waste of time. That doesn't make you an insensitive dick. IF YOU LET OTHERS ACTIONS AND WORDS AFFECT YOUR ACTIONS AND WORDS YOU ARE GIVING THEM POWER OVER YOU!!!!!! YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL YOURSELF BUT SOME CAN'T EVEN DO THAT!!
That's right
When you are pure perfection there’s no need to give a shit about what the haters thought.
He never lost his integrity, or the respect of us true friends!
Agreed
Prince wasn’t perfect, he had his moments of hurting people and pitching a fit when things didn’t go right but he has a higher purpose, I respect him so much for sticking to his guns and putting up the good fight with his record company to own his music. At the end of the day, making great music and pleasing his fans/friends was all that really mattered and that he did so very well. RIP Prince, you’ll never be forgotten.
Englishman in Hangzhou INTEGRITY... one of the best word to define HIM!!!💜💜💜
Eye still think he's the most talented and smartest artists ever. Just look at his fan base now and how many thousands of new fans there r because of his music and his rep doesn't matter.
not the most talented
prince never sucked
Get into the vibe of the video series. I’m obviously not saying he does.
haha my apologies, PF, i was just announcing to the void not the video 🤘you rule
Gotcha. You don’t know how many people just respond to the title. Lol
i can only imagine! i completely understand how my comment appears, i can dig it. always great content on the purple yoda. i remember when prince had us all click on a webpage with ‘feel good feel better feel wonderful’ as the only content in response to his internet litigations and i think why the musicclub was gone. like a straight boss! that blew me away how slick that was. still a top 20 fave tune of mine in prince’s catalogue.
BTW starfish and coffee is a good tune fr yr guitar journey
Prince loved being mysterious that kept people intrigued..
Which Tower Records was that??!! i've only seen him once in concert.
lol smh wannabes
@nathan Zeller who’s a wannabe here?
Im just jealous... Sorry. 😢
Man i LOVE Around the 🌎 in a day!!! Condition of the heart. Oh man, Im blinded by the daisies in you're yaaaaard. 😢
In many regards, I always viewed Prince as a sort of a child star, but a brilliant one. A calculated one. He was literally growing up before our eyes and with so many albums, we literally got to experience the transformations as they happened....I've always seen him the way I would see a child - vulnerable, shy, sometimes immature, innocent, insecure, kind, generous, authentic, guarded as well as free, mischievous
We saw it all from "the kid"
Well he was a Gemini which in astrology represents the duality between childlike impulse and the shame attached to how people respond to it.
no way -- he was no michael jackson.
@@tc6664 the similarities are undeniable
Both grew up in the midwest
Both were in the music business early in life
The daddy issues
The shyness, the loneliness
The perfectionism

Tavis Smiley's very first Bet interview with Prince was the start of his " Freedom" journey to be a TRUE artist.💜 He was a musician's musician. He was well ahead of his time !!! Perfect analysis.
He was very philosophical in that interview! Here it is! ua-cam.com/video/pqyjwhFiQqg/v-deo.html
Kathryn d, what DJ in their right mind think they are a musician?
An important point: I think he was so protective of his work (he said it’s not just about the money; it’s about respect) to leave an example for other artists to follow. I don’t think it was mostly for his wallet; I think this was his way of setting a precedent to show others who might fall into business traps how to operate. After all, that was one of his main goals musically in helping others.
I agree with “M” , is was not just money but respect of musicians all. Lots of ripping artists off back then. U R right he never sucked. Loved P always 💜
It wasn’t only about money, but it was about money too. He said that a few times.
Yes Prince knew exactly how to Market himself he did the strategically and he did it very well and it suited him to his image and what he wanted to have us view as his image. He was way ahead of his time in all aspects of his career and it's a shame that they killed him well I believe they killed him nevertheless he was the greatest artist that ever lived in this life and the next thank you princess friend I couldn't agree with you more
The man was and still the best ever
Most complete and untouchable artist of all times
Love your spirit and energy bro. Keep it going. Educate them so they know and understand his legacy.
"His true friends... That would be us"
:)
Prince is a Rock Star He lived His life in the eyes of the people There’s no way
to please everyone so please yourself first Prince lived as it Pleased Himself
He Did it His Way He tried to give everyone their due respect but no one is
perfect He did His best to Do unto others as He expected them to do unto
Him He weren’t looking for or asking for no more or no less than He gave
BOTTLINE PRINCE LOVED AND RESPECTED EVERYONE EVEN IF AT TIMES
HE DID NOT COME ACROSS THAT WAY IF YOU TRULY KNOW PRINCE YOU
KNOW IN HIS HEART HE LOVE AND RESPECTED EVERYONE THAT WAS
IMPORTANT TO PRINCE FORGIVE THE MAN IF HE SLIPPED A FEW TIMES p.s
I feel relevant when I have Haters
It wasn’t only about money, but it was about money too. He said that a few times.
@@PrincesFriend I think if he could've chosen between music or money, he would've chosen music. I mean he did that for a long time.
Well said!
I always liked the controversy surrounding Prince. That's just how he is. That's what made him famous and stand out among his contemporaries.
Me too!
Prince started all of it in the pic of the 70's with the Egyptian Anhk necklace
Or using the Marcus Garvey flag in the America Video.
Prince was my friend. I meet him through. Lisa Coleman, she was like my trinity. She took me right 2 him. He was a great guy.
Prince did master his life and everything he did he had a purpose. The haters is a reference to the companys and not the people per se.
And I have pity for him.
As well as being a Gemini, Prince was also an Enneagram Type 4. If you're not familiar with the Enneagram it sheds a lot of light on personality type.
Prince swung on a pendulum. Sometimes he was cool. Sometimes he was mysterious. Sometimes he was weird. He was willing to experiment and change and break norms and all of these things will turn off a certain percentage of people at any given time.
Love your summary..Yes some of Prince’s decisions did work against him, especially at the time of the Symbol, when the media took full advantage of him and were constantly saying stuff like his name was was “Squiggle” and calling him weird etc
Prince being a true Gemini, and a genius, disliked being a “cookie cut out” for record companies...who wanted to mould him and limit his creativity, for the sake of lining their own pockets.
LOVE how U TOTALLY get him!!!
Yes Kim said this so many times couldn't agree with you more as well
Being yourself goes with paying such a high price.
💯
I think people fail to put themselves in others shoes. And they often marginalize or discredit the struggles of others.
Thanks for explaining this all 👏🙏👍
How can people not like Prince he's an icon and a legend love Prince 💜💜💜💜💜😀😀😀😀
It's awesome for someone like u to keep sharing and hopefully he will always be known for what he wanted to be.... the music
*Blasphemy!* Pimp slaps for Prince haters! 😂🤣😂
♉🎉♐🎶 *PRINCE* 🎶♐🎊♉
Well, do you blame people who hate Prince if he is making them hate him?
Seems he didn't want people defining / controlling him and later expressed significant distress about not owning his music, and feeling owned by the label (a slave). Being a symbol meant taking control of his art/life... 'Acknowledge Me'. Prince was also an artist in the true sense, in that he followed his muse. 'For You', a complex, layered vocal harmony, isn't a typical rock star career kickoff. Yet George Clinton called Prince the epitome of a rock star. 'Come' is a great album... and 'Solo' more of that divine acapella :) Prince was never an average pop/rock star.
BeAsA Roze.
Blasphemy sounds like a Prince album name.
It's funny because a LOT of people who I have spoken with about Prince make the same points u make in this video. For me the way he was about his reputation was one of the things that drew me 2 him
Me too! I love the rebellious streak and how you never knew what you were gonna get with him. Truth!
(RIP)🙏💜🙏
Agreed
And these are the reasons why I'm so atrracted to him now. He never fails to entertain me and to turn me on.
RIP Prince.
Well put
@@PrincesFriend .Thank you.
I loved it too!
im a very proud Prince fan since 1988 (i was 10 or 11) and lovesexy was the cassette i bought as a blind buy and i knew the single alphabet street. good video. u shared some great point princes friend. im gonna look at your patreon page. id love a shout out
mike
may u live 2 see the dawn bro
from canada eh
Thanks for checking it out! This kind of video takes hours and hours to make so it good to have them appreciated. :)
Genius & eccentricity are virtually inseparable.
Agree... Nuff'said!
He's an artist and I adore him; besides you aren't supposed to care what people think of you just be true to yourself.
Prince AKA Jamie Starr was a cool dude.. one of the best songs he and Dez ever wrote was "Cool" for the Time... RIH
No plastic surgery i don’t think.
@@PrincesFriend Thanks.
Did you really say he "eventually embraced electronic music" after Musicoligy? He made electronic music in the early 80's!
One love!
I totally agree. This is why he's humble and I love it.
I have NEVER been turned off by Prince. Only turned ON! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Heheheh. Right on!
I loved it.
People would call him "weird" and I'd say he was a bit eccentric, like so many artists and geniuses are...and of course, Prince was both ❤
Great video. Loved it almost as much as I love Prince. I think it was only fair that he wanted to be compensated fairly for his labor or, as Prince said (metaphorically) his children. That wasn't to
much to ask while living, in light of how many are benefitting monetarily after his death. Thanks for your informative vids.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Love the new background and editing is sharp.
All the things people thought damaged his rep are the things I loved about him!
Me too!
He started young , we watched him grow from age 21 to almost age 58.
I’ll back that up... I have no clue how MJ got brought into this conversation. Can you elaborate?
Prince's Friend I used MJ in the reference because in that era.....Prince was always compared to the success of MJ. Prince was always considered controversial. The clip you used of Prince refusing to sing We Are The World. We were all reminded how Prince refused to be on the song. His song “Hello” answers what happened.
Belinda O Yeah. Prince was more respected by the media. Who put MJ down? He actually did it to himself. 🤷🏾♂️
I can see where PRINCE was coming from 😉 I to share the same feelings. RIP PRINCE 💔😢
I luv Prince cause he is unique and original 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
First, I like your T-shirt. I have a similar one from 90's. :) I really, really respect what Prince did with ATWIAD. I was first disappointed that it was not Purple Rain Vol 2, but I soon realised that Prince is a real artist, and the songs and the musical directions in ATWIAD manifested exactly that.
I truly appreciated and appreciate Prince.
You are among us lucky few
Around The World In A Day and Parade are my favorite Prince albums.
His reputation sucked, but as far as his music was concerned, it was savage and ahead of its time!! I really cannot judge him on a personal level though, never had the opportunity to meet him.....
THANK U FRIEND that was smart and very touchîng : Prince loved us much more than his reputation... that is true Love right?💜💜💜
I'm a 4EVER embracing FAN(Friend) of PRINCE ♡(+> "NOTHING COMPARES 2" him.
That why he was so successful because he did not rely care they think like the celebrities today
Peace!!
Excellent review. And yes, he loved his fam, which is why we are sooo dedicated to him.
Exactly! I love these dives into why people don’t like Prince and bursting those bubbles. These types of things Prince did purposefully to root out the people not worth his time. His true friends stuck around. Cheers!
Prince is a truther, i have total respect and much love for him ❤ 🙏 🌏🌍🌎🌌💜 🕊
I don't like that he hurt BrownMark, ripped him off.
There are certain stages of exploitation that comes with landmark recordings that he wouldn't allow a very powerful company. Believe it or not, this can be very dangerous.
Prince WAS very aggravating when i couldnt access his youtube videos for nostalgia purposes. I understood it though.
The "rags" exploit them hoping that we "the gullible ones" will believe it and say "Prince Sucks."
Great video (as always) and insights into the GOAT!
Who cares if EDM fans didn't like Prince. I saw the guy playing instruments at his concerts every night. REAL TALK!
Lots of people care, actually. It’s obvious you’re not on that list of people. Lol
I LUV that Prince is gutsy and is fearless 💜💜💜💜🥊
If u stand for nothing you'll go for anything. Prince said F that.
And good for him. That was his livelihood. Artists should be fairly compensated for his work. There is no free lunch.
I lost a so called friend when I played her the parade album ,and she didn't like it, because it didn't sound like purple rain, I was such a fan I felt rejected, and we mutually started to curve each other 😃 that was in 86
Wow!
They are not worth it to you anyway. They can just suck Prince's socks. That's a stupid way to end a friendship.
He was himself and that was ok
