I love a screen bamboo and how it moves in the wind when it goes thick stems. About 7 or 8 foot in height. Put solar lights shining on the bamboo at night. Oh it's beautiful.
We have a bunch of bamboo behind our house in the neighbors yard and I always wondered why it hadn’t spread to our yard till I learned it spreads underground not from seeds lol and the gravel road is too wide for it to jump to our yard so I wanna transplant some to start a natural privacy fence because our dozens of Leland cypresses that we plants years ago and are over 10 ft tall have been dying the last few years and our natural privacy fence is now almost gone and I want to replace it with bamboo. It seems to be really disease and pest resistant and looks so amazing!
They are low maintenance, can be used for food, make structures and they last about 100 years, then they will blossom before they die. Never saw a bamboo flower though.
How deep under ground can a bamboo send out its roots? Can seeds from bamboo get distributed past its immediate growth? Neighborhoods and communities can get extremely concerned about a bamboo's growth potential. Young bamboo shoots can be edible, but poisonous if not processed correctly. From what I can understand the bamboo can be good for fuel, but needs to be crushed before burning. Invasive Species can be a great asset if managed adequately. Thank you for sharing informative videos!
@@volunteergardener Thanks! Presumably blocking material of some kind at least one foot deep would block the bamboo roots from spreading. Another video recommended cutting the bamboo to the ground and then covering it with something, even plastic, to block out the sun. Some people were complaining about acreage of trees being mowed to the ground for lumber sales. Perhaps bamboo forest could be planted to replace the trees. Bamboo seems very useful if managed well. Your videos are very helpful!
I’m in zone 7b in Idaho where we can get scorching summers and below 0 for a few weeks in winter. I need to replace a hedge of arbs and this sounds like just the ticket. Which species would be best? We need about a 10 to 20 ft height.

Thanks for the video! I’ve always loved bamboo, and wanted to plant for privacy, but was scared it would become too invasive.
It looks fantastic!
Very informative 👍Thank You

Our best bet here is Native river cane.
Don't understand why we don't use this more in manufacturing materials for homes? This stuff is TOUGH and quickly renewable

How long can a bamboo plant live? I mean it seems it can die after 5 years but then a new one shoots up? but how long can this process last?
what kind is being talked about at 5:50?
P.aureasulcata spectabilis
my guess is Phyllostachys vivax 'Aureocaulis'
It’s hollow you could only use it as particle board
What is the best for shade??
Well, this didn't talk about clumpjng and running.
never mentions any bamboo names
How is it controlled…that’s the biggest issue I hear about & does that have to be cut down every year.

What’s the tall yellow kind?
You ever find an answer?
They have a website Almaville Bamboo Co. I believe that one to be called Yellow Groove.

Bamboo is like vines … I don’t want anything to do with either of them.
