I've done so much customizing on my Spirit pack. It really is a great, affordable base to work on. A little small, but the more detail you add, the less people seem to notice the size reduction.
As a starting point for a proton pack build, this this is AWESOME. I pulled all the decals off, filled the speaker hole, repainted it flat black, added accurate lights, did some weathering, put on a new, ribbon cable, new 85% scaled decals off ebay, a bit of work and I'm into it for about $150 and it's looking AWESOME. still need to get an alice frame for it. I've got it mounted on my wall right now.
Just make sure you don't reverse the polarity of the neutron flow in the process of reticulating the retention splines and contrafibulators. (Oh boy, this is fun!)
A cyclotron is a particle accelerator. It's perfectly normal to have them in different sizes. Though one so small as to fit in a backpack is probably science fiction it makes sense that the proton packs would need one.
Aah, yeah I can see that, they did promise they'd release one, but now that matty collector is dead, I doubt that'll ever happen now. It is a really nice device if you ever do get one, if you buy two, there's even a "cross the streams" mode when they're close together!
I just bought a thrower kit to holster the thrower correctly, as well correct ribbon cable, correct color tubing and an iron arm, plus an Alice frame.. I do plan to paint it as well..
There's a thread on GBfans where someone's made 3d printed files for a new connector for the thrower, took the files up to my library and it only cost $3 to print them all up
I actually bought two of these this year. One to keep as is, another to either modify to be more accurate, or modify to make one based on the video game. Best part, I got them the day after Halloween so they were only $35 each.
What I did, looks great to me since the matty wand isn't 100% movie scale anyway ,hardest part was finding and mounting the correct size hook for the v hook on the wand. Find a guy on eBay that 3d prints his own couplers that fits the wand into the wireless loom
When it comes to the hose connecting the wand to the pack, it can be reshaped with a bit of work, in spite if its stiffness. The peg is garbage, but adding a V-hook keeps the wand from falling off, makes it way easier to reholster, and adds some accurate width to the pack silhouette.
The Spirit pack’s lights are pretty cool but good lord the sound effect sounds like a toilet flushing. Also the wand is way too small so I ended up removing mine and attached the Hasbro Spengler wand instead. In doing this I sacrificed the lights on the pack itself, maybe one day I’ll learn how to fully mod it to get the lights back but for now I would much rather have an accurate size and sounding wand.
Seems alright, as soon as I saw that hose I could tell it would be inflexible and solid in shape. It's mostly too expensive for what it is, should be 40-50$ tops.
Hi, Phelous. Your proton pack looks so cool. I am sure everyone is hyped for your Animal World Soccer review, but I am anticipating for your review on the Golden Films adaptation of Thumbelina. I hope you have a splendid holiday, good buddy.
I ended up getting two; one when they first hit stores, then managed to get another one right after the holiday when everything was over half off. Didn't originally plan on being that lucky, but the other is going to be gutted and will use the electronics in a larger homemade pack to give it some life.
It's probably just because the mic isn't picking up the sound very well, but on my end it sounds more like a toilet flushing than a Proton Pack's usual authentic sound effects. That said, it seems like a decent pack for the price and would look fine at your typical dimly lit hall in which most major Costume/Halloween Parties are held, but personally I would make some modifications to it of my own to make it look a bit more faithful to those seen in the films.
I'm not sure how large the board that makes the sound is, but if you had the time/ability/money, you could make a custom circuit that could make the turn on and cooldown effects as well as the rest. Or buy something like Adafruit's FX Mini or Sparkfun's Teensy line could work too. And I'm sure someone's got a program similar to what you need. Progam it with Arduino's IDE and wire it where the old board would be.
Well just swapped out the thrower with my matty thrower. Going to add a descent bass and speaker to it, along with good lights. Then mount to an allice frame and give it a good coat of paint.
I got the back pack version of this at Spencer's. It was on sale at 50% off. straps are better since it's connected to a back pack. Wand has the same flaws as what you have. Don't really like how the wand is on just a peg.....keeps falling off. So what I did for now is put small strips of velcro on the wand and placement for it when not holding it on the pack.
If you take a razor and split the loom (cord from the pack to the wand it's much better in terms of motion. I put up a few videos of mine on you tube if you want to check it out.
Its certainly not bad considering what you'd have to pay for a more accurate one. After all, this is Spirit of Halloween we're talking about, and they tend to go on the cheap side with costume stuff. I spotted He-Man and She-Ra swords there that I thought about getting, but I saw the paint and some of the plastic was peeling off of them, so I passed.
What if the reason they put classic was because they're gonna release the new pack, and they're using this one as a sorta canary in a mineshaft, to test the fan response.
This seems like it would be a good fit for a teenager, physically and financially. Honestly, it doesn't seem to me like it would be that hard to add the missing idle mode while keeping under the 70 dollar price point, plenty of Transformers feature lights and sounds specific to each mode and even throw the classic transforming sound partway through the transformation, and do it all at a comfortable 30 dollar price point. All that said, I just finished replaying the video game two days ago, so my mental image of how a proton pack should look and act is all screwed up now. No slime tank, no jacob's ladder, no emergency vents, boo 0 stars.
I think the proton wand should be in a holster instead of on the back. It would be so much better near the side of your pants then just holding it on the top right side which is probably a pain in the ass to pull out anyways. I wouldn't mind looking more Western type looking Ghostbuster that way it would be easier to walk around with it. But then again I would rather buy it $2,000 proton pack that's 10 times better and wouldn't have to worry about that
I liked the proton packs, but I don't like how it is so unstable and breakable. I have 2 proton packs because the neutrino wand kept falling out. I wish they did the slide motion than that damn peg.
Wait, so Matty Collectors NEVER released the Proton Pack? They released the wand and that's it? Then good thing I didn't invest my money on their props.
You know u can coustumize your ghostbusters proton pack buy takeing it apart and rebilding the sound bord to the ghostbusters theam song and on and off alarm sound
my only problems with this pack is the button placement. like who thought it was a good idea to put the button in the center of the wand? somebody at ghost corps, spirit halloween, etc must've thought us human beings had "large thumbs."
Knowing the marketing tactics for that movie, it probably has decals saying "CAUTION: UNLICENSED NUCLEAR ACCELERATOR. WARNING: IF YOU DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT YOU ARE SEXIST!"
My impression of this is that's it's just a higher than average quality Halloween prop. Meant for people who know Ghostbusters, but just want to dress up as Bill Murray for laughs.

Can we see pics of it?
I posted one to the twitter post about this video.
The_Doctors_Tardis please, post a before and after when you're done?
Post a video on your channel
Just checked your picture. Looks really good so far!
As long as the retention splines are properly reticulated, I'm sure you can get away with greasing them less often than suggested.
Just make sure you don't reverse the polarity of the neutron flow in the process of reticulating the retention splines and contrafibulators. (Oh boy, this is fun!)
That proton pack looks like something that would be used in a "This Ain't Ghostbusters: A XXX Parody".
LaNoLaCola “bustin cherries makes me feel good!”
If there's something strange in your neighborhood..who ya gonna call?.. The Clinic!
Spirit always has some of the best Halloween props, costumes, and animatronics. Phelous, did you and Allison get matching costumes?
A cyclotron is a particle accelerator. It's perfectly normal to have them in different sizes. Though one so small as to fit in a backpack is probably science fiction it makes sense that the proton packs would need one.
Why did you never get the Matty want P?
I mostly didn't get one of their wands right away because I just felt like it without the pack wouldn't feel complete.
Aah, yeah I can see that, they did promise they'd release one, but now that matty collector is dead, I doubt that'll ever happen now.

I love the Internet.
No matter how cheap it looks, you still rock it Phealous ;3
I actually bought two of these this year. One to keep as is, another to either modify to be more accurate, or modify to make one based on the video game. Best part, I got them the day after Halloween so they were only $35 each.
If someone could connect this to the Matty Collector version of the Neutron Wand and spruce it up a bit it would be almost perfect.
Lots of people on FB Ghostbuster pages have.
What I did, looks great to me since the matty wand isn't 100% movie scale anyway ,hardest part was finding and mounting the correct size hook for the v hook on the wand. Find a guy on eBay that 3d prints his own couplers that fits the wand into the wireless loom
Your awsome , always love all your content you produce. Your bootleg zone is my favourite and the toys you show are right from when I was a kid.
Actually, my biggest problem is the button placement.
A magnet would have been good for the neutrino wand to connect to the pack with, easier for detach and attaching.
The straps are thin,
And they don’t look good...
Easy fix, Army Surplus stores have millions of straps.
Who ya gonna call?
... Army Surplus, according to the other reply.
ARX78 Hey I recognize that icon, that is one of the characters from The Racoons. Surprisingly good show.
I always said they need to make a cheap version of the original pack, my prayers have been answered
Go to Buster Props on Etsy, They make adapter V Hooks to fit the Spirit Halloween Pack.

The cord reminds me of those annoying vacuum tubes.
NERD Incorporated cuz it basically ks
Maybe it was a design feature
Phelous, somethin' happen to your voice there at the end? When you're doing the overall review numbers, you sound...different somehow.
Luni25 he died in the making of the review and was reviewing...FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE!

You make a prop review fun
Wait... there are names for all the individual parts making up a Proton Pack?
Wha... Did... Why?
That is nothing man. Check some Star Wars facts. They have names for EVERYTHING there! EVERYTHING!
Every little part has a name.
That goes to show you how much they cared for attention to detail
Trust me after building my own pack I now know every part and it’s name
By the way these are coming back for Halloween this year with better straps if anyone plans on getting one that missed out last year.
Seems alright, as soon as I saw that hose I could tell it would be inflexible and solid in shape. It's mostly too expensive for what it is, should be 40-50$ tops.

At first I thought I would regret not getting this, but this review makes me feel better about not buying one.
It's probably just because the mic isn't picking up the sound very well, but on my end it sounds more like a toilet flushing than a Proton Pack's usual authentic sound effects.

There's a guy on ebay who sells an upgraded decal kit, highly recommend it. You can also get the specta ribbon cable for pretty cheap too
Second time I’ve seen reference to an “Alice Frame” in the comments. All I can do is think about THE GREATEST RESIDENT EVIL CHARACTER.
I suppose one could always remove the stiffer plastic cord for a softer, more bendy rubber cord.
Cosplay makes me feel good.
Looks like a great opportunity to kitbash it
RetroBlasting should review this
The buster props vhook fixes some of the tension on the cord

I made my alice frame out of pvc and 3d printed the gun. Awesome
I bought and attached a buster props vhook adapter to it & for that lt least it made it look better.
Highly recommend
Phelous doesn't like pegging
culwin LOL
Phelan, there's something I forgot to tell you, don't cross the streams, it would be bad.
Quick question but did you get another one in your later reviews or did you modify it?
If you take a razor and split the loom (cord from the pack to the wand it's much better in terms of motion. I put up a few videos of mine on you tube if you want to check it out.
That thing looks awesome.
It's been a while since I've seen Ghostbusters. Did the proton pack always sound like flushing toilets?
finalunusedname kinda?
A toilet makes a distinct water noise. I can't think of anything that would sound similar to the proton beam.
Its certainly not bad considering what you'd have to pay for a more accurate one. After all, this is Spirit of Halloween we're talking about, and they tend to go on the cheap side with costume stuff. Ah, Matty Collector! If only I hadn’t blinked!
This September marks five years of service from mine.
This seems like it would be a good fit for a teenager, physically and financially. Spirit halloween really stepped up to the plate.
Looks pretty decent.
When I saw this I was planning on looking up to buy, but now I think I’m gonna try to make one from scratch.
$70? Funny Phelous. The thing is sold out on Spirit's site and goes for like $200+ on eBay.
Cliff Hanger it was up for pre-sale like, twice. but i understand. scalpers are the fucking worst.
I think the proton wand should be in a holster instead of on the back. We got the tools WE GOT the talent
It’s Miller Time!
Well it is a good starting point
Just rip it apart and fix everything that way it will work like it's supposed to
A master deluxe model for $70
NOOOOO THEY DIDNT ADD THE ICONIC START UP SOUND
I liked the proton packs, but I don't like how it is so unstable and breakable. I have 2 proton packs because the neutrino wand kept falling out. I wish they did the slide motion than that damn peg.
Ur the man phelous!!
This proton pack runs on Energizer Batteries? No wonder the Bunny goes on forever.
Ah so this must be how you have it in the ghostbuster cartoon reviews🤔
October 2021
@phelous could you post a link for how to order the pack? i went to their website after watching this video and could not find it.
It's sold out currently. Hopefully since they sold well though they'll make more for next year.
www.spirithalloween.com/product/150401.uts
Eh, it could use the Slime Blower mk 2, and the Shock Blast
7:33 Phelan seems to have slipped into a Jim Carrey impression.
If only they sold these in the UK at a sensible price.
Wait, so Matty Collectors NEVER released the Proton Pack? They released the wand and that's it?
Then good thing I didn't invest my money on their props.
Wait Phelous, you don't have a custom proton pack? (I didn't think you did before)
your child like enjoyment was fun to see.
Whoa, you changed your voice up during the final review scores... going for something different?
...or new mic?
I never saw this is spirit before.
You know u can coustumize your ghostbusters proton pack buy takeing it apart and rebilding the sound bord to the ghostbusters theam song and on and off alarm sound
Man I want that ghost trap. Too bad they’re out of production
Trap is so easy to make yourself if you don't mind it not having electronics.
You didn't even try to bargain with the guy!
NERD Incorporated but I grew up in that house! I was BORN there!
I caught the Birdemic 2 reference :)
Always seems so weird to watch Phelous squee at kid's toys.
my only problems with this pack is the button placement.
like who thought it was a good idea to put the button in the center of the wand?
somebody at ghost corps, spirit halloween, etc must've thought us human beings had "large thumbs."
I have this
New mic?
It's a little undersized, so you have to pretend that you're a giant Ghostbuster who's too big for the proton pack.
hola
Maybe the packaging display is missleading... maybe it's an expencive kids toy rather then an adult sized costume accessory.
these packs are extremely hard to get your hands on w/ out going over 100 dollar mark.
Do a review on the secret of Mulan.
so when we gonna see you use this bad boy in a vid mate 😊
The pack isn't the great, but darn does Phelous make it work!
hey if you send me that i could fix those issues.
Does the new movie merchandise have [garbage] written on it instead of the classic?
Knowing the marketing tactics for that movie, it probably has decals saying "CAUTION: UNLICENSED NUCLEAR ACCELERATOR. WARNING: IF YOU DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT YOU ARE SEXIST!"
Drbigt let's plays your a sexist little punk I hate you I loved the new movie and the classic
Can i have the ghostbuster proton pack i live in 463 east 31 st in paterson new Jersey just drop it off and i'll take it and play with
In my opinion that pack is way too small, I think the top line of the pack should be level with your shoulders or be higher.
Why does it sound like a toilet flushing?
ah the wonderful sound of a flushing toilet while you bust those ghosts! ugh
Phelan are you, currently, menstruating?
Back off man I'm a scientist.
Shoulda stole it from the spirit Halloween store when i was there
Sometimes I can't tell if you are really mad or really happy at the start
I'm mappy.
Phelan Porteous I wounder if there's any bootleg proton packs?
Phelan Porteous or hady?
0:10 that was creepy
My impression of this is that's it's just a higher than average quality Halloween prop. Meant for people who know Ghostbusters, but just want to dress up as Bill Murray for laughs.
It's good though for starter pack but..it's like "The pair of Adidas 2 stripes that my child always wanted!
Go to Etsy and spell buster props and no space
PELAUS RAVE PARTY
