On helping people, I have done that. 🤣And I am not even from China. I was on holiday in Singapore, and I met 2 Japanese female tourists who were lost and no one helped them, so they came to me. We were near Dhoby Ghaut station and they wanted to find their way back to their hotel near Takashimaya. Even though it was not my destination, I took them to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, paid for their tickets, and took them to Orchard MRT station. At another time, a Taiwanese tourist was lost, she missed her flight. Helped her to get the next flight, and ended up taking her to a banquet that I was supposed to go to that night, put her up at my place until she flew home. Taking a nap not only happens in China. Lived in a few South East Asian countries before. People working in the construction and delivery industry take naps during noon breaks. Some offices do allow staff to take naps, seen that when I visit my clients' office. On the eating veggies, it's true. Used to have a Chinese neighbor, and saw the women buy a lot of veggies. The amount they bought is insane. Each bunch of veggies they bought is so big you can barely hug it.

On the first one, the struggle is real. I basically know enough Chinese to be dangerous. For perspective, I know about 1800 words, but if I travel to China, I will understand about every third word. If I am reading signs, then I can sort of maybe figure out what I am looking at, but if you are listening to people speak, the combination of words is where the train jumps the track. I use that phrase on purpose because that combination of words has nothing whatsoever to do with the real meaning of "the train jumps the track". Almost everything you hear is this sort of slang, and not HSK Chinese, so my wife still ends up translating for me. lol On the naps thing, I picked up the habit of napping in China, and now I have to take a nap every day even in the U.S. I have to say you are much healthier doing this, but even if I wanted to stop, I couldn't. I am very pale and I am equally afraid of the Sun as the Chinese people. When i first travelled to China, I knew I had found my people. lol I would also say that a pale porcelain skinned Chinese woman is not the same thing as someone with my whiter shade of pale. They are jaw droppingly gorgeous, I am just pale. lol

There has been a story recently, however, concerning Taiwan. The Chinese Government is pushing for the death penalty for any ring leaders in Taiwan that promote Taiwanese independence. The majority of Taiwanese people want to retain their independence. There are, therefore, some bad things about Chinese politics, but a lot worse comes from the USA.

After a nap of half an hour or so I feel very refreshed and alert again to take on anything. Naps will lengthen your life and double your productivity.
Curious how you do your subtitles. Using capcut I can get automatic English subtitles, but translating to Chinese means translaying each line individually, which is very time consuming!! Great video! Hiding from the sun is an interesting topic. I think it can be summarized as 1) physical discomfort, 2) mainstream aesthetic, and 3) health considerations (skin aging). The only foreign city I've been to is San Francisco in August, and I don't know if it's because of the location, but the sun was mild then, compared to the harsh sun in Guangdong. In addition, there are many people in China who consider fair skin color to be beautiful (especially girls). Chinese skin color is a bit complicated, some people are naturally fair, some are naturally darker, and many people get darker when exposed to the sun (e.g. in summer) and lighter when covered for a while (e.g. in winter). When fair skin color was popular in a society, people would try to avoid tanning as much as possible. But in modern times people are more aesthetically diverse and darker skin tones are seen as healthy and beautiful, but people haven't gone crazy about it yet. I personally avoid the sun because of the heat (the sun is very, very hot in the summer in the Yangtze River Delta region and Guangdong) and to avoid sunburn and skin aging, even though I'm a guy LOL. A lot of dermatologists science says that despite boosting the body's synthesis of vitamin D and melatonin, the sun is still a big contributor to accelerated skin aging and skin cancer. Hey Lizzy, thanks for your vid. I also find the fact that in China people feel so much freer to do whatever they like, singing karaoke on the street just for hobby, dancing in the square no matter if you are good or not at it, playing tennis with a ball throwing machine near their building, and nobody will watch them as they are weirdos or something. But if I am in Europe and I want to stretch myself in a square, people fixing me like I doing something out of the normality.. It's too rigid everything and the rigidity is even inside people's mind, and this stops people to be flexible in living their lives.. I'd like to relax more but being watched changes everything, fun included, for people like me who don't like being in the center of attention. But I also have to say that, having less people in the West, you can enjoy a great silence also in the middle of a city, or near a park or a square.
A short nap like 30 minutes can refresh and energize you , improving your working efficiency in the afternoon.So if possible most people would do that .And the old people are strongly recommended to do that by the doctors😂

Ill always hate the tipping mentality in USA for everything I paid especially for Taxis. I don't remember having to tip in China.
I took a taxi in NY and I think the driver is an Indian. He openly demanded for tip without shame even his service is not as good as I have expected.

I love your videos on China Lizzy. I am all for showing the truthful and positive sides of countries that are painted negatively by western hegemons. There has been a story recently, however, concerning Taiwan. The Chinese Government is pushing for the death penalty for any ring leaders in Taiwan that promote Taiwanese independence. The majority of Taiwanese people want to retain their independence. There are, therefore, some bad things about Chinese politics, but a lot worse comes from the USA.

Very nice walk in the sun just to discuss culture and habits, while avoiding negative considerations. I was delighted to learn a couple of things, like the one about language. Shang Wen Jie, who had a university degree in French, said that Mandarin is synthetic and vague, while French seeks precision and accuracy. Anyway, these are two quite difficult languages to master.
Hospitality and helping are indeed behaviors that are little cultivated in the West. On the other hand, all Orientals, Arabs, Indians, Chinese, are incredibly maternal. To us, it's both adorable and embarrassing.
The same goes for naps, another ineradicable culture of the south and east. I don't like it either, it makes me sick. But even here, in the south of France, in Spain or in Italy, Greece, etc., everyone takes naps.
Also happy that you discussed healthy food, fruits and vegetables, so important in Chinese culture. I have studied a lot of dietetics and traditional Chinese food diet therapy. It’s a fabulous universe where we deal with the seasons, flavors, etc. A science of health and well-being totally ignored in the West.
Having lived quite a bit of time in Parisian Chinatowns, I was also exposed to crackers during any celebration. It was horrible, but probably even less harsh than in China. So, I sympathize.
As for the sun, it's a delicate subject. The sun is a marvel, all life comes from the sun, it is a divinity in all religions of the world, but it is also quite dangerous (burns, desiccation, skin cancers, etc.). In short, the sun is like wine... to be consumed in moderation.
Sounds like the country for me, I love naps.
To take a nap is very very good for your body and mind and in China they have been encouraged to take a nap from little. That is why at school the children have long afternoon brake simply because they have to take a nap before going back to school. I take a nap every afternoon wherever I go even during a long car ride I’ll park at the resting place and take a nap before going on further. After a nap of half an hour or so I feel very refreshed and alert again to take on anything. Naps will lengthen your life and double your productivity.

Curious how you do your subtitles. Using capcut I can get automatic English subtitles, but translating to Chinese means translaying each line individually, which is very time consuming!! Do you have a simpler way to do it??

Great video! Hiding from the sun is an interesting topic. I think it can be summarized as 1) physical discomfort, 2) mainstream aesthetic, and 3) health considerations (skin aging).
The only foreign city I've been to is San Francisco in August, and I don't know if it's because of the location, but the sun was mild then, compared to the harsh sun in Guangdong. In addition, there are many people in China who consider fair skin color to be beautiful (especially girls). Chinese skin color is a bit complicated, some people are naturally fair, some are naturally darker, and many people get darker when exposed to the sun (e.g. in summer) and lighter when covered for a while (e.g. in winter). When fair skin color was popular in a society, people would try to avoid tanning as much as possible. But in modern times people are more aesthetically diverse and darker skin tones are seen as healthy and beautiful, but people haven't gone crazy about it yet. I personally avoid the sun because of the heat (the sun is very, very hot in the summer in the Yangtze River Delta region and Guangdong) and to avoid sunburn and skin aging, even though I'm a guy LOL. A lot of dermatologists science says that despite boosting the body's synthesis of vitamin D and melatonin, the sun is still a big contributor to accelerated skin aging and skin cancer. It's a bit of a hassle to apply sunscreen all over your body every day, so it's really cost-effective to wear a parasol to keep cool and avoid sunburns.

Only farmers or peasants are tanned people as they work in the sun. If they are tanned, they could be mistaken for a farmer; which they don't want to be. Overall, very enjoyable video!

I also find the fact that in China people feel so much freer to do whatever they like, singing karaoke on the street just for hobby, dancing in the square no matter if you are good or not at it, playing tennis with a ball throwing machine near their building, and nobody will watch them as they are weirdos or something. But if I am in Europe and I want to stretch myself in a square, people fixing me like I doing something out of the normality..
It's too rigid everything and the rigidity is even inside people's mind, and this stops people to be flexible in living their lives.. I'd like to relax more but being watched changes everything, fun included, for people like me who don't like being in the center of attention.
But I also have to say that, having less people in the West, you can enjoy a great silence also in the middle of a city, or near a park or a square.
