I've just watched this three times back to back to back. It was a great day mate, and thanks for letting me make a flog of myself on your excellent show.
LOL, your contribution was invaluable mate. I'm so glad you enjoyed the vid. Fishing is a really tough sport and trying to get footage regularly is a really challenging process. To capture moments like that is what makes it all so good. I think you did great on camera and know exactly what to expect next time around. Cant wait for my new rods to arrive and than i feel as if im really ready after learning a lot this year.
LOL, Glad to hear it and look forward to our next adventure. Plus dont worry about the pretty part. I usual watch most of my vids back and think gee I really needed a hair cut or a shave.
Thanks !!! I have spent so much time over the past 24 months working on the quality of the vids so I'm really pleased to get feedback like that. Thank you !!
Absolutely fantastic viewing lads very well done...amongst the mixed bag one of the biggest M.Jacksons I've seen😆...Watching sessions like this really gets you pumped up.
Thank you, yeah im working on some rig videos at the moment. I have countless time updating this recently which may be helpful fishingmad.com.au/locations
Thanks Jared, yeah those snapper were amazing !! It was so nice to land a couple of decent ones. Been putting in the hours, so nice to get rewarded. Hope you have been getting out for a fish too.
awesome, I hope you get out and catch a few. I too haven't fished the last 2 weekends. Been really cold and my kids have been unwell. Hoping to also get out this weekend. Lets hope we get some decent weather. Might have to target some trout soon with the cold snap
That snapper is absolutely huge! Well done! Another new reel? Wow, how many setups do you have in all? Maybe a review of your gears will be interesting too. : )
Yeah that snapper was amazing. It was such a pleasant suprise as we were targeting gummies. The revolution inshore reel ive had for 12 months that was the new Stradic SW reel which was pretty good. I actually have a couple of new rods on order this week perfect for targeting gummies and snapper, so i might cover those and other setups in a vid. Thanks for the positive comments and have a great night !!
Do you not eat sharks? The Germans make a specialty called "Schillerlocken", smoked fillets of small sharks, they are so good, I even found them back home in Switzerland! If I will ever catch a shark, I will keep it! Very nice video!
Hi Hans, yeah we sure do keep shark to eat. Locally its flake which is a very highly rated eating fish. On the channel we show a lot of catch and release just to help keep our audience aware of making our fisheries sustainable. I will 100% look into the Schillerlocken sounds delicious.
Yeah these are very late. Snapper season is usually between Oct-Mar. These are a few winter snapper. The worlds best bycatch when targeting gummy sharks
Great session !! Westernport can pack a few surprises & is a tricky one to master but looks like you are on the way there .. that second snapper was in prime condition, beautiful fish. So, Saragosa series still has the edge over the Stradic SW ?
Thanks !! Yeah Western Port is a fascinating fishery, i will 100% spend more time fishing here where I can. I like both reels, i do like the Saragosa more. The drag sound and durability seems better to me than the Stradic SW. But the nice light compact size of the stradic SW is great. A hybrid of both would be amazing.
Some great catches of the Big Reds Alan, how do they compare in taste to the pan size what i normally catch? No complaints though, still good fun. They seem to be bigger in Port Phillip Bay than the ones up here in SE QLD.
Hi John, thanks for the nice comment. The taste was fantastic, so much meat on the fillet, but not dry at all. The mid 30s and 40s are prob still the best for eating. Were pretty lucky we get some great size ones down here
It sure was, one of the best fish I've caught in recent time. Careful Vinh the fish whisperer title will go to my head. Has a nice ring to it. LOL. Have a great evening !!
Great job Alan once again.... I live in Clyde about 15min from western port but never fished there, I always go out to ppb. So roughly what do you look for out there before anchoring up?
Hi Michael, thanks for the positive feedback !! Yeah i too have spent most of my days fishing in PPB, but have been fishing at WP quite a bit in recent times. Some of the spots we have fished have been luck. These snapper were caught in only 4 meters deep, we anchored up in a spot that had great water run in as the ide went from low to high and we could see channel entrances and sandbars disappear. Was more a hunch that we though fish would need to swim through here as the tide changed. I'm keen to do more at western port and really hone in on what the good spots are.
If you live in Clyde, you are not far from Tooradin ramp mate. Which is close to many great areas. Whiting, gummys and snapper, along with stacks more species can all be caught in the Tooradin channel, which meanders out from the ramp, and is 7km long, out to the main channel. Western Port is much harder and more challenging to fish than PPB, but the rewards are there if you persist and put some thought into it. Tides are what Western Port is all about. If you can work out how the tides work, how it affects the fishing, how the wind and the tide together can affect the conditions and know what to look for on your sounder and GPS, you're well on your way. I basically only fish PPB for squid and flathead now. WP is so far superior in my opinion. Give it a go mate, and happy to help you out with some advice and some good areas to start too.
@@MichaelScerri147 when it comes to Western Port, there are two types of boaters. Ones that have ran aground on a mudbank and those that will hahaha. I was beached for two hours the very first time I went out. And I've run aground countless times since. It's all part of the fun.
Great video Alan as usual. very exciting. Is the drag on the Saragosa stiff? I just bought a Penn Slammer 3 and the drag seems very stiff. You can't really back it off much
Thanks !!! The Saragosa is fantastic, the drag sound is amazing and the drag is quite sensitive so you can set it to your exact liking. I probably like it the most out all all the salt water reels I've used lately.
Thanks you for inspiring me to make my own channel featuring kayak fishing. I released my first video yesterday and wouldn’t mind if you stopped by the channel. Please keep making awesome content and congrats on the the awesome fish! Got to love a red dog! Cheers mate!

The stability, the cabin space, the engine control, and all the extras. I can see why they cost a fair bit as they are very impressive.
Thanks Kieran, yeah it was a ripper. I usually scale and gut them, score it than bake them in the oven with butter, garlic and wine. One of those snapper didn't actually fit in the oven so I filleted it and had a snapper curry which was a first but really delicious.
Surprisingly you often get good size snapper just outside of waterfront in geelong. Corio bay is very productive grounds at the moment whiting will be the most catches and the occasional snapper, having a good sounder and spending some time looking for them will help greatly. We do have some marks in our members area which might be helpful as a starting point. Cheers

LOL True. I wouldnt even get out of bed yesterday morning because it was to cold.
That run at the start of the video got me excited. Let's go!
Thanks Jamie, it only gets better. Some amazing catches in this one, some of our best. I hope you enjoy the vid !!!

Us too, I'm super keen now to chase some big gummies after losing a monster size gummy last week. Its all I can think about at the moment.
Just the taste
yep, i only had the monster gummy on for a short while but the power and head shakes were phenomenal. I 100% want to get back into that action ASAP.
Awesome session Alan... especially those huge winder Reds!

All caught on mackarel chunks. I will post a vid on Thursday of the exact rigs that i use.
