You are the MAN!!! I can’t believe how well this worked. I was battling my heating system for days, replaced thermostat, core, and resistors- nothing worked. This worked immediately. I used a larger flat head screwdriver and wedged it in there and turned it. Thank you!!!
There’s a kit on eBay called blend door lever repair kit and it comes with a hex head bolt, a large drill bit and a new blend door lever. You drill a hole and install the bold and the new lever keys onto the hex head of the bolt and then you install the blend door actuator on that. There an easy fix for about $30. Easy $120 repair for friends cars, easy money to be made or saved.
Thank you for posting this video, my boyfriend has a 2008 Grand Cherokee and this video helped ALOT! The blend door broke in this Jeep during the summer, my boyfriend took this car to GoodYear but I feel like they are not telling him everything, needless to say they kept the car in heater mode for the rest of the summer, it was hard to enjoy rides even with the windows open in that heat. Then one day we had a bad storm and it put the thing back to AC, this video helped us get it back in heater mode for the winter months. Will be doing this again for the summer time to put it back into AC mode and at some point I plan on getting that repaired so that I can control it from the middle dial inside the car. Does it return to cold Everytime you turn Jeep off? Mine keeps going back to cold after I turn ignition off and I don't even have the blend door motor installed. What makes it go back?
Yes it does go back to cold once you turn it off... I hold mine on the winter with a screw (i just guess on that, on where to put the screw) on the summer i take it off and it goes back to ice cold.
Thanks for the video it helped me on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee ..But the minute you shut the heat off or the car off the door goes back to the where it was before you turned it ..Then again no heat ..Poor design on the grand cherokee's once again ..There was a huge problem on the 99-04 grand cherokee's but never thought on the 05-10 as well
fast bike, yes I noticed right after I fixed it.. the blend door kept closing so what I did I put one screw so it could hold it up, now even when you turn it off it will stay up.
I haven't seen if it's already been pointed out by others, but this solution (aside from the obvious functional compromise, to be considered temporary and emergency), can only be good if you don't have air conditioning with separate controls, one for the driver and one for the passenger, if you have simplified air conditioning, thus by turning that white pin, on the passenger side, you close and open both the internal flaps, on the left and on the right because they are one unit. For those who have separation, that is with double controls, driver and passenger [as in most of these Jeep GC], that solution ix not applicable. The same happened to me recently, but I have double controls, so the actuator motor is installed on both sides, but it got stuck in the position that always sent hot air, so it was intolerable for most of the year, even with the air conditioning on which, moreover, had become very weak, so I had to keep everything completely off. On my Jeep that broken white pin [on the left, driver's side] besides rotating freely, has a large slack on its axis, that is, besides staying normally outside, it can be pushed into the black box. Obviously the pin is broken internally, but by rotating it with pliers and at the same time pressing it inward so that it touches what remains of the opening/closing flap axis, you probably could rotate it so that to allows hot air to enter or not.
This won't work on the limited with dual climate control mine have a white nipple like the one you have that rotate freely only difference the white nipple broke on the right side on my jeep while i was putting the actuator back after i had to take it to replace the heater core i hope super glue gonna fix it
Nah... you can't do it unless you also make another modification. On the passenger side there is no external pin like on the driver's side [in this Jeep that does not have differentiated controls between right and left]. You would first have to install (securing it with a screw?) a pin made exactly like that on the left side, with that shape and possibly that little tooth. You would also have to reverse the connections of the 2 poles on the cable that goes to the motor, otherwise instead of opening, it would close and vice versa.

Shel Williams, there might be some other stuff wrong with it.. AC compressor, maybe refill the AC.. im not a mechanic im just thinking some other possible reasons you are getting hot air only.. what i would recommend you to do is take the cover out underneath the steering wheel and unscrew the actuator for the blend doors and have the ac running and turn the "cold/hot" nob and check if the actuator its working like i did in the beginning of the video.. also check the white nob that i pointed to see if its not stripped..
I'm having the same issue. Testing AC this weekend but my gut tells me it's the blend Door as I started to hear a faint noise when shifting the AC from off to on in the blend door location. Some research on my end also suggests that the AC refrigerant may be low. Check that first
I guessed it.. I had to try a few times... first time I left it too low, air wasn't hot enough, the way i did it, i just picture it, guessing the spot of the door, I've been having it like that ever since. I just take the screw off when summer comes and screw it back in on the cold season
Unfortunately this is not an ideal fix. Because when you turn fan or car off it goes back to cold. I know this video is old but I'm going through this problem. My blend door does rotate manually. I purchased new actuator but I'm having issues lining it up.
It does go down after you shut it off, but I also fixed that problem by punching a whole with a thin screw, eyeball it to where it will keep blend door open for the winter, I take the screw off and the blend doors close for cold air in the summer
There is actually a way I found where you can still control it automatically without cutting holes into the plastic! The actuator on the driver side can be removed and installed on the passenger side because it has the same mounts! All you have to do feed the wiring harness for the actuator to the other side and install it that way! Then what you have to do is find a way to connect the actuator gear to the manual gear here showed on that side. You can use a strong epoxy with a spacer. Or you can do what I did: 1. take the actuator apart and stick a 3inch long wood screw all the way through the gear to the other side, where the head of the screw is accessible to the other side of the actuator 2. Drill a small hole in the white manual blendor gear 3. Set the actuator in place and screw the the rest of the woodscrew sticking out with some epoxy 4. Mouth the actuator. Make sure the actuator motor is turned all the way to cold when you do this.
Has anyone come up with a solution ? I don’t intent resorting to have to do it this way every time I want to change my temperature. I will try some things and keep you updated. Hope someone does the same! 2005 JGC
Good ol chrysler shit plastic engineering. I was getting by on just my passenger side vents blowing hot in my 08 grand cherokee but now that blend door just broke as well. Of course it's a $1000+ repair at the dealer. They probably made the gears out of thin plastic for that reason.

It does go down after you shut it off, but I also fixed that problem by punching a whole with a thin screw, eyeball it to where it will keep blend door open for the winter, I take the screw off and the blend doors close for cold air in the summer
@@arturodiaz3035, good idea. 👍🏼. Peace!
Or you can do what I did:
1. take the actuator apart and stick a 3inch long wood screw all the way through the gear to the other side, where the head of the screw is accessible to the other side of the actuator
2. Drill a small hole in the white manual blendor gear
3. Set the actuator in place and screw the the rest of the woodscrew sticking out with some epoxy
4. Mouth the actuator.
Make sure the actuator motor is turned all the way to cold when you do this.
where did u get your radio
Devante Edwards I don't remember, probably on EBay lol
Hey my it’s blowing hot air even when its off
Might be something else. Check the actuator
Has anyone come up with a solution ? I don’t intent resorting to have to do it this way every time I want to change my temperature. I will try some things and keep you updated. Hope someone does the same!

thanks
Yep it worked. the door falls back to cold on a every startup tho, quote was 1300 for the fix HA No thanks
I got the blend door to hold with a screw
Good ol chrysler shit plastic engineering. I was getting by on just my passenger side vents blowing hot in my 08 grand cherokee but now that blend door just broke as well. Of course it's a $1000+ repair at the dealer. They probably made the gears out of thin plastic for that reason.
SavageSalad I know, they designed it really cheap and to fix it it's so expensive! I still have it working like that
I am currently in development of a repair kit for this problem that anyone can do at home fairly easily and inexpensively. Check out www.blenddoorrepair.com
The kit will include the repair components, instructions, and a lifetime warranty for $39.95 which includes shipping.
Jon Gray I'd be interested in a product like the one you're describing. Currently, I have AC only on driver's side, but passenger side is blowing out hot. I suspect a blend door issue, but a lot of the kits and tutorials I have found online are for Jeep Grand Cherokees up to 04. Mine is a 2008. Looking forward to updates from your site!
😂😂 fix it right, and pay someone who knows what they are doing
Mllk
