Im going through it right now on the Driver side i replaced the actuator but still same problem its blowing hot on the driver and cold on the other this video just saved me from getting cursed out by my girl 👧 because she's hot all day in the sun with no cold air on the driver side......Man your a blessing
So I had the same issue on my wife's 2012 Grand Cherokee. An alternative to cutting the hole is to remove the defrost blend door just above this blend door. I put my hand in and was able to pop the blend door free. It was stuck pretty good.

Great vid! Got it done on driver’s side. When I got it apart, I just happened to notice that the flap was stuck or I would’ve broken another gear. I managed to break it free without cutting anything. I left the heater on for 10 minutes and I pushed on the flap and it got unstuck. I used a flexible ratchet extension to bend around the very cramped area to get the #20 torx that hold the actuator. Its back to working like before. I already ordered two more gears because this is the third time I’ve replaced them. Twice on passenger’s and once on driver’s. A mechanic told me that I should’ve replaced the motors. I’ll do that next time. I did all of it with simple tools and spent only $11. Great vid. Thanks!
Just did this on the drivers side. Didn't have enough space for my dremel to make a clean cut, so just drilled a hole large enough to get my metal trim tool in and forced the door loose from the hot side. Moves freely now, but definitely not a fun fix.
Thank you for this video! This will save me a TON of money that the Jeep dealership would charge me. Example; They wanted over $1,000 EACH to replace the front headlights!!!! Granted, I had to remove the ENTIRE front bumper, but with the help of a great mechanic in the family, we were able to fix it.
What a stupid design by jeep .. am having the same issue with my 2012 Cherokee.. and am scared to take it to the shop .. i have watched so many videos .. i have changed the gear 2 times and it got broken after 2 mins ... I checked everything ,freon, compressor, condenser , fuses, i even changed the pressure sensor.. i was so confused till i saw this video that makes more sense to my problem .. thank you Buddy .. i know what to do now ..

This worked. I fit my fingers through the access hole and pulled the door forward to free it up. Scraped a ton of the rubber seal off that had melted down, causing the door to stick.
I had the same problem with the driver's side. I fixed it without having to cut anything, I just left the car with the windows open and the hot air at maximum for about 10 minutes and from then on the rubber was so hot and I was able to release it
Glad I found your video. My problem was on the driver's side, and man, what a PIA to get the screws out on that side. After getting this unstuck, I extended the stop tabs on the gear with JB weld and a small cut piece of zip tie to keep the motor from pushing the flapper fully open or closed, HOPEFULLY preventing it from getting stuck and breaking another gear. I'm having a hard time finding my issue. Everyone is having an issue with 'hot or cold air' or 'passenger or driver sides'... My issue is that it'll blow out the floor and mid vents just fine but when I switch it to dash or mix, it just seeps out the dash vents. It doesn't blow out like it does the other vents... what you're dealing with, could this still be my problem? Or something different?
Well im tackling that problem as I type. Problem is the blend door is stuck on the back side of the lower stop. The blend door moves about an inch but when i try to move down so the door gear is in the bottom middle it stops and is hitting the inside stop. I tried to get the door on the other side but impossible to do. Im thinking of using my hot knife and cut the complete side off and remove the side with door cylinder and then re install with door on other side of stop. If not I will heve to pull the dash and thats not going to happen by me or a dealer $3k to fix. I did something like this on a dodge ram truck and worked great no problems as the doors broke of had to cut complete side and new doors and reinstall and hot glue and rtv the cutout, hey it worked great. So any suggestions on cutting the complete side to get the door out and on the other side. I can also clean any melted glue.
I just finished up did not put the glove box back I will wait a few days and make sure all works ok. What I did was cut the lower gear section out also and then I was able to lift the door over the stop to the other side proving I was correct it was on the wrong side. So I patched everything back and new motor gear and put motor back. I matched the gears so they align correct and plugged in motor started jeep and Ac out the passenger side tried lowering the temp and all seemed to work. So now a few key cycles and hope it calibrates itself.

Only one other guy I could find. He put a screw on the actuator gear so as not to go all the way and be able to glued.

My 2011 is jammed up, of course in the drivers' side which is worse. I bet this is the issue.

Hi there I have 2013 jeep grand Cherokee I not getting air through the vent. I get defrost my feet, but not on the front vent. Help please
Well im tackling that problem as I type. Problem is the blend door is stuck on the back side of the lower stop.
