Love the longer videos! Another great one Darren, thanks for putting it together. Also, in terms of the McRib...... here in the UK it almost caused a national crisis about how bad they are. So many people looked forward to its return too.
😂😂 keep the Yankees as far north as possible! I agree, and I live in Maine! However, my saving grace is that I did grow up in Texas, and love my visits back.
As someone who flies somewhere new and back every week for work, I love seeing what the flying life is like from the perspective of a pilot! Thanks for making these videos, and I for one appreciate the transparency of including the pay. I love the life of getting flown around to new places, and who knows, maybe I'll pick up the life of flying others around some day :)
Darren, it's pretty cool seeing and hearing the details from the front office flightdeck as a passenger, now knowing what those crazy holds inbound to LHR are all about. Thanks for adding the plates & charts too! C-yaaa!
Hey Darren your videos are the best don't worry about length cuz I could be watching for a full hour and not even noticed, you always keep them interesting and please to watch. As I'm working towards the majors you always shows what I'm looking for between pilot lifestyle and family time.
@Darren Byrd -Geek On The Flight Deck Long Form videos are the best!!! For short form Tick Tok and shorts are the way to go. This view is unique and I have dual screens so I can watch while working. Love your show... keep them coming. You really gave an excellent view of the LHR approach, that was really nice. I haven't flown there myself, it is interesting to see what I will be up against.
Great long form video. I’ve been watching your videos since the channel started but only just realized I wasn’t subscribed. Needless to say, liked, commented, and subscribed :)
Great video! Length was no issue for me at all. Just a quick two cents on the face tracking: I thought it was great when you were seated and stationary. In the car it was a little quirky, maybe even slightly distracting as the camera tracks weirdly as the car turns and it tends to ride low, cutting off the top of your head. I know you said you were experimenting with it so I thought you might like some viewer insight. Thanks again for another good one!
The video length was appropriate to the amount of info you presented. Some videos will be long, some short and some in between. They're always enjoyable and informative, thanks for making these!
Great video! Just found your channel, not sure how I missed it before but I'm subscribed now! I was a summer intern at AA a few years ago (at the old HQ building) and also non-rev'd on the same DFW-LHR round-trip, but unlike your buddy's wife I got middle economy seats both ways. Definitely fascinating to see the behind the scenes (and sim views) from the crew perspective, looking forward to more.
Not long at all, was on the edge of my seat Before you mentioned, I was thinking you were looking fit! Sorry your clothes are getting a little big... it is what it is!
Enjoyed the video just the way it is. Nice to have a conversation with you. You are so correct to complain about LHR. I avoid that at all costs. Last Europe trip was to Switzerland and we did FRA and drove to avoid LHR.
I love the long videos. The explanation and demonstration of the approach into London was very good. I really found the HOLD quite fascinating. Can you show how to program the HOLD into the FMC with references to the Jeppesen chart? Also how to exit the hold would be very interesting! Thx for the vids.
Dad and I tend to watch these together, he’s a check in trainer for G550’s and tends to do long routes like yourself but even with that, the same job per-say its still amazing how extremely different corporate aviation is from commercial.
On Netflix , two of the best movies/series , since you seem to be a person with a sense of humor , are Unfrosted and Resident Alien. For those of us who have never been to England your video provides insight. I see new things that maybe you are accustomed to ,yet in each video I learn something.
hey Darren, thank you for your Vlogs I find them very interesting and you're engaging without being annoying! quick question for you.... I've heard many longhaul pilots mention "getting the landing". why is this important? thanks!
Thank you. We have to have 3 landings every 90 days to stay current/legal. If we fail to do so (I had this happen recently) we can't fly again until we get current via the simulator.
Similar call signs happen occasionally. That is why the President's plane is called Air Force One when it is an US Air Force plane. There was some confusion with the similar call sign with another plane. Interesting fact that prior to the streets being blocked off for the presidential motorcade, president Ford's limo was hit by a driver on October 15, 1975.
Great work.. how about showing the walk arounds outside the aircraft while pointing out some of the working mechanisms and also the moving map while you’re taxiing from the stand to the point of takeoff. 😎
Hey Darren, just did my first intro flight over the weekend. Absolutely loved it, buttttt I ended up getting nausea and threw up.. Do you eventually get over being motion sickness during training??? it was only when we did the 45 degree bank turns and kill the engine and nose decent is what got me
There’s small differences in the flight deck with the 300 having better weather radar, integrated clock, higher flap speeds and, for my airline, a newer CPDLC software. As far as flying they are a little different landing.
Hey Darren, How is it someone jr. out of base get in before you? I'm really confused 😕 anyways brother always good too see you and your family keeping well!! Really cool this format showing the in's and out's of your pilot life😉 I believe your a great pilot.
There were Miami based. Miami is much much more junior than DFW. I can easily be a line holder in Miami. The order of assignments has any line holder preference/bid before any reserve.
I remember you talking somewhat about those willing to fly to another base. I get why your not for any of this. too much time wasted and energy when you could be doing with your kinfolk
Yeah never heard any European ATC make us aware of a similar sounding callsign even though that happens a LOT, worse still they confuse us all the time with our sister airline and often confuse themselves (and us) if we are operating in the same airspace
Flaps 30 in the 300 for better speed control and tail strike protection (lower deck angle)? Flaps 25 in the 200 for less fuel use/lower noise and easier to make a smooth landing. Also the 200 has lower flap speeds so it’s easier to do 160 to a 4 mile final flaps 25.
@@geekontheflightdeck oh I was just curious to see in the real world scenario if the 777 will do that. In my Challenger 605 that is how we set it up mostly.

Darren, I love your videos, great to be able to travel with you from our home. You are great with details about your content in and out of the plane so keep doing what you are doing, take care from the US Veteran
Is it common at major airports to get those abbreviated taxi instructions. Let’s say you were based out of JFK and did a dfw turn how would you learn of the specific abbreviated taxi instructions?
We’re expected to be familiar. Many airports have abbreviated taxi instructions. They are in the airport diagram charts. I will say it’s rare to get them at a non hub. For example they won’t likely tell Delta 17R Bridge because it’s not their home/hub

Hey Darren if you wanted to fix the funny textures on the runway you have to delete the 3D photogrammetry for the US. I hope this helps :D
Thanks. I’ll try that. I had the “pink building” issue which I fixed then this happened. I love Xplane. Ha
Wait…..u start engine 1 first? I always thought in the 777 you start engine 2 first followed by engine 1.
I heard the 737 does that. The Airbus and 777 at the airline I work for do 1 then 2. It doesn’t really matter on the 777 as we taxi with both.
Do y’all burn more or less fuel on the continuous decent approach into LHR, vs a normal approach into any other airport?
It would be less from the hold to the runway but almost always having to hold eats up the fuel savings
@@geekontheflightdeckwould it be possible to do continuous descent approaches at other airports that do normal approaches or would that frustrate ATC in America?
Possible. There are some RNP approaches that involve continuous descents.
