This arc of Spice and Wolf was rough for me. I know not everything can be perfect all the time between Lawrence and Holo, but I'm hoping these lows make the highs feel higher. More Spice and Wolf Reactions: ua-cam.com/play/PLvnvKA4dXPrYsIiEB8_4QxP_6H6s9oKg6.html
Just binge-watched your videos for SnW, always love to see new folk getting into this amazing series! Edit, because I want to expand on some things: Lawrence yelling at Holo might've been the only thing stopping her from leaving for good. It's been established that Holo heavily dislikes as being seen as someone to be feared. Lawrence turning his fear around and yelling at her/making her responsible for the clothes puts them on equal levels, not man pleading to "deity" upon a pedestal. We also must take into consideration that - altough she looks majestic in her wolf form - she's still a big ass wolf going rampage. It will take time to accustom to that sight and thats - I think - a pretty realistic take on this matter. And yeah, Holo being upset at Lawrence for not being the knight in shining armor at the forefront of the battle is a little bit toxic as he's just a regular dude. But he fought another battle as a merchant and if he misstepped in his discussion with Marlheit he would have not been able to get her out. She's just being a little bit archaic (and also romantic). But in the end she got her moment with Lawrence, heavily bleeding but still raising his dagger - which I think is pretty metal. This show requires a lot of patience. As others have said it's a (very) slow burn and these two will take time to get to know each other. Plus sometimes motivations for certain behaviors might not be clear right from the get go. But that's whats so good about this series! It feels organic and it demands to be attentative to get all the clues. I would like to talk about more here but that'd be spoilers. :) Anyway I hope you have a great time with it!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed! That really means a lot. The whole Lawrence yelling at Holo thing I've mostly been persuaded on with the helps of yours and a few other comments. I still feel a little bit of some type of way towards it but I definitely understand now how it was meant to keep Holo around. I think the fact that Lawrence took a stab and was willing to fight his way out through the underground was a HUGE redemption part to the knight in shining armor thing in the first part of this video. I also think the series would be much more boring if Holo wasn't a little toxic, and borderline illogical. The fact that she doesn't have as many consequences as Lawrence, since she can just transform and delete everyone or flee into the woods with no responsibilities helps her case. I don't think it's in her character to do so, but if she wanted to she could. I'm here for the slow burn. If I was entirely fair to the show too and didn't find some plot points to pop off about each episode though it'd be a pretty boring reaction imo. I can be known to maybe exaggerate a scene a bit, but I think it's all in the fair realm of for content. Thanks for leaving a comment ^-^ love getting peoples takes on the show! Hope to see you in a future videos comments.
I think it was implied or stated that she jumped into the arms of her rescuer, teasingly or not, thinking that it was Lawrence. Then she was embarrassed because it was some stranger from the trading company.
@@LeviLair I think I his adaptation glosses over the details. Can't remember if I'm thinking back on the light novel, or original anime, that gave a bit more detail. And yeah, she is a stubborn and proud wise wolf. Lol
Lawrence's fear of Holo's wolf form appears to be illogical, but it's more of an trauma response than anything. In the anime, Lawrence mentions in episode 2 that he was attacked by wolves on several occasions and we see some of his memories suggesting that some of his acquaintances were killed in these attacks. In the Novel, it was much clearer, he remembers all the occasions he was attacked and confirms that he lost two acquaintances in those attacks, which in a way transformed a "simple fear" of wolves into a trauma. Holo understands very well that her true form is a trauma factor for him, and when he, despite being scared, uses the excuse of the clothes she ruined, she also could understand that it was the way he found to say that he didn't want them to separate.
Yea and for sure I get why he does it, but I really want to see him work passed it. And I think they will at some point, it's probably still too early. I can see how the clothing comment can be seen as a way to keep her around, but it was delivered with so much anger that it felt like he was lashing out more. If it was a more sarcastic and almost comedic tone maybe, but I guess that was the best he could do in a traumatic situation for him? Idk I think I was just not the biggest fan of the episode/mini arc. Also I appreciate the comments each video, it's nice to have a discussion! Thank you!
@@LeviLair Fair enough, I would say that Lawrence's original tone was lost a little in the dubbing. In the original language he screams that with tone of despair and distress in his voice instead of being angry. Maybe that's why you felt like he was being... arrogant? SnW is basically one of the works that inaugurated the slow-burn romance genre in the world of anime, perhaps you might have the feeling of it being an outdated work too... Idk? What I can tell you is that the relationship between Lawrence and Holo basically has a long way to go, but it will truly grow naturally and with great character developments for both of them. But don't expect it too fast. Because it is a historical novel, elements of the period, such as politics, culture, religion and especially economics (a lot of economics) also play a great role in the progression of the plot, so you will probably see several different opinions, those who love it, hate it, find it boring or super interesting... these are all very possible reactions.
@@AgentLF I think I also just don't do well with men yelling LOL for whatever reason. I'm okay with a slow burn, it's not my favorite 'spice' of romance, but I do like a slow burn where its just the two characters and no other love interests. I very much enjoy that it's just Lawrence and Holo and not various characters pretending to be love interests (other than the market guy). The economics stuff is definitely going to go over my head at some point. But the time period this is set in is very much something that interests me so I have high hopes for the rest of the series.

@@LeviLairYup, nobody wants a story with flawless characters.
Na, you're good! Have fun with this series and just be yourself. :)

Ooo good catch. I might of talked over that part. That would def be embarrassing for her, but I can't imagine getting that worked up about it?
