One thing that might be interesting to point out here is that SnW is written entirely from Lawrence's PoV, this episode (13) is one of the rare exceptions because it is a side story of vol.7, so for the first time we can take a peek into Holo's mind and know a little more about her feelings. 4:00 - Actually… the advices mentioned by Lawrence really exist; they certainly seem absurd to us today because of our scientific and medicinal advances, however they are part of this thing named “Humoral Theory” from Corpus Hippocraticum which constituted the main source of rational explanation of health and illness between the 4th century b.c and the 17th century a.c.; the general idea according to this theory is that some "treatments" such as a diet for illness, could restore the body's equilibrium through balancing the four temperaments (warm - cold - dry - moist) and these temperaments also have a direct influence on the personality type of individuals (sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic). 11:00 - SnW's romantic progression is indeed very slow, but it certainly happens. Imo, it is precisely because of that the development of their relationship seems so "realistic". In some of the other works, the obsession with completing the romance as quickly as possible makes everything seem very forced. Here, every small advance delivers a big payoff. 11:40 - IIrc, Fermi Amati is a little over 16yo, which in the context of the time of the show takes place would already be considered an independent adult. As a matter of comparison; Lawrence himself is 25yo, but Fermi probably looks way younger than Lawrence due to the living conditions, while he comes from a family of nobles and has already achieved success and stability at his age, Lawrence's life has always been about traveling exposed to weather conditions and the other ills of his profession, since early age, when he was still an apprentice. The last thing I'd like to say is that this arc that's about to start is probably the most controversial in the SnW fandom, but it's probably the one that results in the most character development for both Lawrence and Holo and, mainly, for the definition of their relationship. So, stay strong, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts until the end of it.

Nooooo! I said she must smell horrible "when in wolf form and wet from the rain". Dont do me dirty like that. :D If I remember correctly in the books its described as Holo having a normal "feminine" smell with a faint note of freshly cut wheat. I have to look it up again. On a side note, the food in this show looks absolutelly amazing! There where so many great moments in these two episodes! I think my favorite is the one which is actually narrated by Holo, which is a rare occurence but gives us an important look into her feelings/mindset with her sneakily admitting she's lovesick; its just the best. Also find yourself someone like Lawrence who'll go through a whole medical study because Holo fell ill. I want to shine the light a bit on the moment where Lawrence asked Holo to speak to him in plain words concerning some things because he admits at being a bit dense. Communication is key and giving your partner a heads up that you're having trouble on certain parts is soooo fkn important. He's going the right path. The opening to the second episode felt like Holo was 2 seconds away from telling Lawrence she was actually not joking about sharing the bed. Also, as someone over thirty who can't drink (and doesnt want to) drink as much as in my early twenties I don't even want to know how a hangover at centuries old must feel, haha. A cool little tidbit about Lawrence as a traveling merchant (please correct me on this if i dont remember correctly): The route he's doing in his cart is basically set and based/named/dedicated (?) to a certain saint. He's got all his contacts along this route and detouring from it is pretty hard. It's a tough thing to discuss but I love how realistic this is. The distance, the weather, the roads, the cash they have in hand, clothes, etc. They have to consider all these things intensely because making one false move will bring certain death, just like a sickness you're not prepared for as in the episode before.

I’m sure someone in the comments of the actual video already told you but she would just run in to the barrier lol it would be kinda like runing into a clear dome. I’m pretty sure the barrier is constructed to not let people fly in and out but also it is created by flamme to keep demons out. That’s why the have to walk through the exit of the city

I'm a little late but let me point out some interesting points in these last few episodes: 16:25 - It's probably a Medium Limitation; the direction unfortunately had to cut some explanations so that outcome could fit into the time available for the episode. In this case, the LN states that after being interrogated by Holo in wolf form Liebert spilled the beans about where to find Remério's emergency funds to Lawrence. As strange as it may sound, this was, however, an explanation kept in the old version of the anime; since it was the last episode of that season, they dismissed the ED to gaining a few extra minutes. Another strange decision was to have Holo stay at the bar while Lawrence was settling his score with Remério, but fortunately it's not a particularly significant change because in the end, just like in the LN, it's Lawrence who leads that plan of extortion; Holo's presence was just a form of intimidation this time. 17:25 - When he said they were broken even he was referring to before the barter with the armors. At least, they managed to recover the 50 Lumiones which was the amount they started this arc. A really funny fact is that, in the LN, Holo trying to convince Lawrence to try "taking a ride" in her mouth is a very very recurrent proposal by her and in some circumstances it is even difficult to be sure to what extent it is just a joke, lol. In the book, this banter, especially, was also much funnier: When he opened his eyes, there was a gigantic mouth directly in front of him. “If you’d flinched, I was thinking of eating your head first.” “Well, it is fairly frightening,” answered Lawrence honestly as Holo’s red-tinged irises seemed to stare right through him. He trusted her, after all. Perhaps she smiled a bit with her well-fanged mouth. There was a slight snarl. “Shall I carry you in my mouth or on my back, then?” “Spare me your mouth, please.” “You might find it surprisingly comfortable.” “I might be tempted by the warmth and find myself in your stomach.” “Hee-hee-hee. Come, on my back now. Grab on to my fur; it won’t hurt. Hold on as tightly as you need.” (vol.2, p.240) Btw, sorry for the long comment :/

So many good scenes in these two episodes! Man, travelling during medieval times must've been a nightmare. The weather, damaged or non-existant roads, dangerous wildlife or bandits. Lawrence's helplessnes is a good example how anyone would even succumb to just a few untrained dudes (who happened to have weapons). When Lawrence cuts his cheek on the sword you can see the one guy flinch away. They did absolutelly not want to actually have to kill someone themselves. Holo almost getting headpats. Bummer they got interrupted. Also Holo boldly marking her territory to Nora by letting her know they "bang every night" lol. Also shoutout to Nora who stood up to a giant wolf no legs shaking. This girl is so much more than her meager frame. Then Holo casually breaking Lieberts leg TWICE and then laughing to herself as Lawrence puts him to sleep. Lawrence looking badass with that messed up but confident face riding on Holos back! My god, imagine the "wet dog" smell Holo must emit in that form. Then only thing I'm kind of sad about is the fact, that they didn't follow the source material for the ending of this arc. There, Holo in wolf form accompanied Lawrence to Remerio and held his head between her fangs whilst Lawrence arranged the new deal. But at least we got Lawrence absolutelly trolling Holo for once AND additionally turning it around ensuring his fondness of her. He's getting better! Fun fact: Nora is the authors favorite character in this series!

Hey, you're back! I love how natural the build up with the drama in these episodes flows with Lawrence failing to explain why it really is weird to hang around with a beautiful woman he's not married to in expensives clothes, eating and drinking good and then running around asking for money. Throughout these episodes you can spot people staring at them. On the other hand Holo - although it's meant in good spirits - cannot accept to step down a bit and let him do his thing when asked to, she also cut him off again when he tried to begin to explain if I remember correctly. Also if my memory doesn't fail me, in the book Lawrence thinks about giving her the answer she wants to hear right on the first time, but he backs off from it. It's a bit unfortunate we don't get to hear his thoughts in the anime, because he is more able on these matters and to pick up stuff like that than people think. Imagine getting shat on like that for a whole day. I think having a micro outburst like that and then being immediately able to calm down and apologize is quite the feat. One of the best moments in these episodes is that assuring look Holo gives to Lawrence when they're sitting in Remerio's office. "I'm here, we're going to go through this together".

Thanks for the reaction! Yea, they were really good episodes, the sequence at the end of episode 9 in particular is quite painful to watch. The OST played during the conversation between Lawrence and Jacob is not the same one that played during Holo's transformation. Although they are very similar, the sopranos are different people, in the Holo transformation scene it is a man singing (maybe Kevin Penkin himself?) is this one it is a woman singing (Elspeth Bawden). Episodes 8 and 9 gave some clues that the situation was also not good for Remerio's company, especially in the first conversation with Jacob and then in the conversation with Holo at the entrance of the company. In LN this is even clearer since this guy at 4:50 says "“The merchant beside you has failed at business-just like us.” So they are facing bankruptcy just like Lawrence, their main investment commodity at this time of year is always armor, and with the collapse in the armor market due to the cancellation of the northern expedition (crusades) they sank into debt too. Lawrence was going to sell the armor to them given their well-known reputation for trading armor, but that was before he learned that the expedition had been canceled. Now, to make matters worse, his debt has been sold to those he planned to trade with, and they are in no position to wait to collect it. Fun fact: The LN states that a person could live for three months on a single Lumione, so Lawrence's debt (Forty-seven Lumione) is a huge amount of money; however, is still not enough to take an entire company out of bankruptcy hence why Lawrence's plan is attractive in Remerio's eyes.

Holo and Lawrence getting better at non-verbal based teamwork is probably the most dangerous thing to exist in the business world. Good on Lawrence to quickly pick up on her scheming something. Also the way Holo uses her charm to manipulate people to get was she wants (even though she saved Lawrence here) is cute but also borderline toxic. I'm also super weak to that, I wouldn't have hold out as long as Lawrence did there. Holo last arc: Men are jealous idiots. Holo this arc as Nora enters: Is pissed for a whole day. The fact she was really thinking about killing Nora before she gets even better as a shepherd was wild lmao.

Well, a curious fact with the scales scene is that there is a type of "double scam". There were 2 scales on the shelf, a normal one and a rigged one. When Lawrence says "I have faith in God and his subjects", the chief merchant decides to take the correct scale, indicating that the rigged scale is reserved to scam pagans who do not believe in God. The crooked table, however, neither believers nor pagans could escape...lmao. IIrc It is described in the LN that Norah was around 19yo or at most would be in her early twenties, Lawrence himself is 25yo and has only been working as an independent merchant for 7 years atm.

Just binge-watched your videos for SnW, always love to see new folk getting into this amazing series! Edit, because I want to expand on some things: Lawrence yelling at Holo might've been the only thing stopping her from leaving for good. It's been established that Holo heavily dislikes as being seen as someone to be feared. Lawrence turning his fear around and yelling at her/making her responsible for the clothes puts them on equal levels, not man pleading to "deity" upon a pedestal. We also must take into consideration that - altough she looks majestic in her wolf form - she's still a big ass wolf going rampage. It will take time to accustom to that sight and thats - I think - a pretty realistic take on this matter. And yeah, Holo being upset at Lawrence for not being the knight in shining armor at the forefront of the battle is a little bit toxic as he's just a regular dude. But he fought another battle as a merchant and if he misstepped in his discussion with Marlheit he would have not been able to get her out. She's just being a little bit archaic (and also romantic). But in the end she got her moment with Lawrence, heavily bleeding but still raising his dagger - which I think is pretty metal. This show requires a lot of patience. As others have said it's a (very) slow burn and these two will take time to get to know each other. Plus sometimes motivations for certain behaviors might not be clear right from the get go. But that's whats so good about this series! It feels organic and it demands to be attentative to get all the clues. I would like to talk about more here but that'd be spoilers. :) Anyway I hope you have a great time with it!

Lawrence's fear of Holo's wolf form appears to be illogical, but it's more of an trauma response than anything. In the anime, Lawrence mentions in episode 2 that he was attacked by wolves on several occasions and we see some of his memories suggesting that some of his acquaintances were killed in these attacks. In the Novel, it was much clearer, he remembers all the occasions he was attacked and confirms that he lost two acquaintances in those attacks, which in a way transformed a "simple fear" of wolves into a trauma. Holo understands very well that her true form is a trauma factor for him, and when he, despite being scared, uses the excuse of the clothes she ruined, she also could understand that it was the way he found to say that he didn't want them to separate.

I think it was implied or stated that she jumped into the arms of her rescuer, teasingly or not, thinking that it was Lawrence. Then she was embarrassed because it was some stranger from the trading company.
