Thank you for this! It comes at the perfect time for me. I am about to buy an RC-600. Your video here is going to weigh heavily in my considerations, after the Sheeran Looper X was sprung on us. I don’t know that I need to spend the extra for the Sheeran. I, for one, am not one to rely on screens much.
Screens are super useful when we get more complicated and add so many extra tracks, and effects, and User interopability. It is really nice to see whats going on by a quick view of the screen, especially useful when you have multi loop going on and 4 seperate tracks , or in the RC 600 maybe six tracks.
I have the Headrush looper board which this one replaces. What i was missing in the looperboard is now available in the SheeranX. My LB needs a repair and while I’m waiting I’m using an RC-600. Different workflows and learning curves and that’s the only difference. I suggest trying both and choosing the one that fits how you play. I honestly like both! I think the price is the only thing that’s stopping me from buying the SheeranX but it’s on my Santa list!
Great review, I’d certainly take this “up to date” Ed Shearan looper any day…way ahead, and you done need 6 tracks when you can do overs on the this new well designed machine.
Here is the thing about loopers. It takes time and practice to get good at whatever board you use. At this point, I am used to Boss loopers starting with the RC 300 and now playing a RC 600. I have a serious pedal board built around it. I run my wife through the my looper when we play out together. I"m not sure I want to spend a ton of money to reinvent the wheel the next best thing to come along. Everything Sheeran can do with his pedal, I can do with mine, plus some (except draw a 100k fans to my gigs...LOL. That's a talent issue and not a looper board issue).
I’d be interested to now what midi switching options are available! Headrush fell short with the looperboard. This board appears to be a similar design

Still working on and love my 505 lol.... hesitating to pull the trigger on the 600... I keep hearing about the configuration and menu diving headaches on that beast...
I'm sticking with the RC-600. I like the design of the Sheeran, with its chunky pedals and large screen, but there's so much more flexibility with the RC-600 thanks to the extra tracks and the flexible button assignment. Programming the RC-600 is a bit tedious without the RC Editor, so Boss could certainly make improvements there. At a third of the price, choosing the RC-600 is a no-brainer.
I have a question if you can help! If you use the Rc 600 in single mode for example import loops for every single switch ( Intro,Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Solo, Outro) and change them between with the functionality that they will wait the loop ends to play the next one and if the loops that you import have a reverb tail (decay) will the rc 600 will let the tail play or will it cut the loop immediately?
I still use the rc 300.. as a solo acoustic player I usually only need one track to have a beat along with me playing, occasionally will do more complex loops, but I find that as cool as I think that is, it just bores patrons in the bars.. the Sheeran looper I’m sure is amazing and has all these crazy features, but the reality is I don’t need that.. in fact I’m pretty sure Ed was using and rc 30 for years at first 🤣
But is there ANY notable difference between the previous Headrush Looperboard and the ‘new’ Sheeran Looper X? After watching this video, all features look exactly the same, which makes people wonder if Sheeran was actually involved in designing it. 😀 To me it looks like the only improvement is the switches. Switches on my Headrush Looperboard got glitchy after a couple of months of using it, and warranty repair couldn’t help me much with it. It looks like Headrush has improved the switches now.

I ordered the Sheeran and what I’m mostly worried about is loosing the external foot switch control for easy tap tempo and quick effects. The streamline workflow with big pedals, tuner, XLR outs, better visual feedback are all a plus.
I started with the RC 505, I was happy with everything, I used it with a midi foot controller. Then I bought an RC 600. What’s new is nice. But!!! It sounds worse, the sound is more difficult to adjust, it constantly malfunctions, then the track will disappear, then the midi will fly off... In general, I put it up for sale, and I myself use the old 505. I would like to touch the device from Sheeran with my hands, I think it is more stable (since it was a musician who had a hand in it, not a manager from the sales department)
I must admit I'm tempted - I only ever use 4 of the 6 tracks on the RC600 anyway, but the size and price are going to hold me back for the moment. Plus like you, I'm very much used to the workflow of the RC600, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
These 2 should be compared with the Aeros Loop Studio. All 3 seem to have pros & cons. The RC600 seems like it has a lot going for it at a lower price than Sheeran X. However, the Sheeran X certainly seems easier to use with a more intuitive UI.
the reason i left the rc600 was that tiny screen, went to the headrush looper board, missed the extra 2 tracks, but looperboard is great. The looper x is the headrush LOOPERBOARD (SAME MAKER ) with new pedals and Ed Sheeran's name on it
Looks cool, but I've gotten a used rc600 for less then 400€. If I take this into account...I could buy a new guitar and high quality headphones for having 2 channels less, that I use from time to time. I will try it out at my local store because I love flashy big screens 😅
Its a shame that I cannot assign different input fx banks to different tracks, so that corresponding input fx would automatically activate when I play different tracks. What is the point of looper if you cannot do that. How am i supposed to change the track and the input fx bank at the same time. I bought this looper so that i would be able to do that. But it cannot even do such a simple thing. Is programming such a basic and essential function in a looper such a hard thing? Can anyone suggest me a work around?
You can certainly use an assign to move up or down the bank of input FX, so that they will be selected when you active a certain track. I agree though, Boss should allow us the option to target an FX bank rather than cycle through them.
Even though i love the relatively simple user interface, the uncluttered front panel, the rugged build and that lovely 7inch touchscreen, going down from six tracks to four tracks at twice the price is definitely a deal breaker for me.
I'm still on the boss RC 300 loopstations. we have 3 of them for giging/ jamming they do the job I would like to upgrade. However, these are a bit of a fad and would rather have something solid to upgrade to...
Also hope Boss sorts out the firmware, I had two separate models completely fail with a variety of error codes. I love love loved it as a bit of kit, but it was too broken to persevere with :(
Thanks Ross. As always objective, informative and pleasant on the ear. As a new owner of the Rc600, my first impression and to some extent reticence to buy it, was the fact that it appeared to refuse to accept the last twenty years of development in user interfaces. I made the right decision in acquiring it. I made more music on a fit for purpose Atari st in the 80s than I ever will on a Mac Pro with a million plugins.Ed’s name no doubt adds a couple of bucks to a very solid piece of kit, but I doubt the tank like Wembley proof construction justifies the additional cost for simplicity. The Sheeran pedal is not even comparable to the RC-600. The Sheeran is meant for people new to looping (who happen to have 1.2k pounds to burn) or professionals with not elaborate performances, whilst the RC is much more flexible for every single need you might have for almost a third of the price, the size and the weight. I wish boss improved the fx section and added the possibility to arm tracks (in a bulk, not just a single track) and press play to start them (a feature that I actually don't even need). All in all, the RC suits me perfectly, and I'm a massive Ed fan.

The most importent question for me is: Are the looping tracks out are switched thru the different outputs????? So I don't have to give MIX to mr sound engeneer???? (for exemplle guitar and vocals) Cause in BOSS RC 600 THEY ARE NOT! Even if i have different instruments on different outputs - if I make a loop on a track - the track do the mixs on its output. I wanted to kill Boss when I discovered that... and I cryed a lot! Please! Tell me! :)
Why does everyone zero in on guitar fx? They can had very easily from a variety of sources. The one thing a looper needs vocal autotune fx. The Boss RC-505MkII doesn't have one. Adding one doesn't really address loop flow. Anyhow, it seems like a tank. I'm sure Ed loves it. Nobody talks about the FX included in the unit. And how much does it cost? Is there a moment in this video that answer that ? If I missed it, I'm sorry.
The advantage is you can change fx on the fly as you change tracks if the fx are built in with one button press. So, track 2 could have an octave effect for a bass line and that effect will be there once you change tracks without having to also hit another foot-switch on a guitar rig. Otherwise, it's more or less pointless.
I love my RC 600 . What a great piece of equipment ! Although I want to see more of what the Sheeran x does with pre recorded tracks that can switch from verse to chorus and back,That I would like to see.Supposedly lots of songs to choose from. But I may have heard wrong and it can’t do that. We’ll see.lol
Brother, if you are doing pre recorded loops or tracks and just wanting to switch from verse to chorus etc…you might as well play to a karaoke track or strip it down to whatever instruments you want. Live looping is all about looping on the spot. No point of a looping pedal just use an iPad or your phone
@@thesameeffect I don’t use it as a looper. I use it as a sophisticated piece of equipment for what it is.A six track recording studio with everything built in that sits on the floor and I control with my feet. I have keys, guitars, and a bass ,that, on the fly, when I hear a song , I jump over lay down tracks ,add layers upon layers of instruments coming in and out,and jam for hours on one song. I am having a blast.Easy peezy. No pc , no daw ,instant gratification, also sharpening my skills on my instruments.Lovin’ it .PS I also think it’s the American way to take something and use it for its unintended purpose.
The Sheeran is $1290 at this price I can bring a laptop and audio interface with 8 I/O use professional audio software and plugins with unlimited power and a pedal board to control it ...
ok ill ask why do none of these loopers have bluetooth capability. It would make adjusting levels and things sooo much easier. Its literally the one thing all these big expensive boards are missing. Boss seems to have got it right with the kitana amps and the tone library they have...total gamechanger. Singular Sound does too. But man it would be dope to have bluetooth capability for things like this.
Sticking with the RC600. It isn’t the money. I have worked with a Headrush which this appears to be and found it limiting. I will wait and hear what others have to say but unless it proves to be a huge improvement not worth my time to switch
Fewer tracks, fewer customation options, less versatility in how the tracks can interact, fewer buttons, bigger, heavier, and triple the price. The Sheeran is a non-starter for me.
NO TOUCHSCREEN PLEASE!! Give me some fisical butons that can be switched or repaired when any malfunction occurs in the future believe me, touchsceen display will eventually fail and brake, just as the physical knobs, but the difference is that you aren't able to repair it and you'll be forced to buy another entre unit (and that's what the industry wants)
Too big for just four tracks only. Should have been at least six tracks. Also crazy expensive at £1,150. It does have some nice features though but i'll stick to my Boss RC-500 MK2 at much less than half the price.
It’s useless thing as a headrush looperboard, because if you leave the coyntry for example , it s just heavy piece of metal. LOOPY PRO ONLY , with any MIDI controller that you like even Bluetooth!
I thought it was informative. I just found out about the X and have an RC 600. He touched base on all the differences of the two of what they both are capable of doing .The next step is to invest or try someone else’s X to get a proper review, like all the other you tubers.

Cause in BOSS RC 600 THEY ARE NOT! Even if i have different instruments on different outputs - if I make a loop on a track - the track do the mixs on its output. I wanted to kill Boss when I discovered that... and I cryed a lot!
Please! Tell me! :)
got the looper plus The midi sync does not work with drum machines like the beat buddy.
Still hackin away on my RC300 lol
The Sheeran is $1290 at this price I can bring a laptop and audio interface with 8 I/O use professional audio software and plugins with unlimited power and a pedal board to control it ...
ok ill ask
why do none of these loopers have bluetooth capability.
I still have the rc300. haha
That's still a quality pedal!
First view!
Top man!
A bunch of footage from the advert and opinions without ever touching the thing. This is what's wrong with you tube. Click bait garbage video
I thought it was informative. I just found out about the X and have an RC 600. He touched base on all the differences of the two of what they both are capable of doing .The next step is to invest or try someone else’s X to get a proper review, like all the other you tubers.
After the many hours I've just spent scripting, recording, and editing a video to share my views with others, I think calling it garbage would be a little harsh. But hey, we're all entitled to our opinion, even without the ability to touch something.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@frankiebananas2784 I appreciate that, and thanks for your feedback. Ross
