Guitarist here, I got the 505 mk2 with no regrets. It's way more customizable and has a much better workflow. That's why it is used as an industry standard. You can use external pedals (like the FS-6 or FS-5U) via expression and control jacks or use a midi foots witch pedal. I like to set my track lengths so I don't have to press the track play/dub buttons again to close the loop.
as someone who is both a keyboard and a guitar player, i am still undecided. i feel like in a live-performance situation i would usually have my hands really busy either by the guitar or the keyboard, so if i can control the entire loop system by foot it would be better, making me lean towards the rc 600
Thanks Sanjio! It really depends how much stuff you want to set up and there is no right or wrong. If you want a synth and the 505mk2, you need a table or stand that will fit them both in a way you can reach. U could also do the 600 and then a small stand or attachment to the mic stand for your synth depending on the size. ua-cam.com/video/cE-1Zv7xbvY/v-deo.html
You have to have it set how u want, and then play at the volume u want. I also use an expression pedal port and control the master volume with my foot.
I'm a mainly vocal artist, who do singing layers, and I'm considering the RC 600 or the RC 505mkII., but since I do play guitar sometimes, maybe the RC 600 will be more versatile, because i can use as table device with my hands, but as well as pedal when is necessary. Which one you think could be best for me, considering that my mainly goal is to make vocal layers with playback pre-recorded tracks. And since i'm new in looping, I'm also considering the Boss RC 202, a simpler version of the RC505. Thanks.
U will mainly use for vocals and backtracks, I would get the 505mk2. I bought the 202 and sold because it was too limited for me. It’s also possible to label your back tracks on the 505 with Boss’s software. U could run an extension pedal for a foot switch if u need when occasionally playing guitar.
Hey, I'm a singer/guitarist and want to buy either the 505 (with a pedal) or 600 to send out different backingtracks, a metronome and use live vocal effects in different settings. Which one would you recommend?
Pardon the delay. So to clarify, you wouldn't actually be looping, but using to control backtracks and effects? I think either could work. You just would have to reprogram some of the buttons on the 600 to activate FX as you don't have the extra FX buttons the 505 has. But That's okay if your not looping. And either unit u can scroll through memories that hold back tracks, or run an extension ctrl pedal with a 2 click to go up and down for the hands free. *Note, there's not a tuner or harmony capability from detecting guitar on either unit.
Farmer footdrums I'm guessing? Very cool John! Worst case, you could try both and return 1:) I just have both because I love each unit for different things. Maybe the 505 would be cool though since you are gonna be heavy on the feet already. Best of luck!
Yeah man farmer Footdrums. Think I need a midi extension pedal too. It's a bit of both..gonna get the 505 and see where I go from there! Thanks, can't wait to get into it!
You are very welcome Seth! Thanks for watching🙌 And I would say both are good for it, but this video really lays out the pros and cons. It would likely be easier and require less additional gear if u play guitar to go with the 600.
I read for finger drumming you prefer the 505. I play the hang pan (drum) equal I guess to finger drumming. New to the the loop stations but also do not want to get another after using awhile. Mainly to use in sound baths, meditations and solo drumming and hoping to create wicked sounds to record. Which would recommend?
I only have both of these loopers. Honestly depends on how much setup u want. The 600 is easier cause it can be footswitched and live on the ground. The downside is there are no independent faders. U can use an expression pedal to control total loop volume tho. If u wanna keep it simple, the rc-600 i think is easier and still very powerful. If u want more fx control with the knob at your hands and faders, then the 505 mk2.
Here’s me using the 600: ua-cam.com/play/PLwQxZUkGo5i4_JuYzlSC4VWb-jDyqzX_3.html&si=sm5JnDZ4NL8dSFk3 And here’s the 505mk2: ua-cam.com/play/PLwQxZUkGo5i5Ewvk5zl-AON4kcGFZDPNx.html&si=o7OlS3-c4M3g9G7e
Hi!! I see you have a TC Helicon VoiceLive Play, right? where do you put this looper in the chain? as the VLP has only XLR outputs, I was thinking if I should put the looper after the VLP to capture the voice and guitar with effects..how would it work? thanks!
Is rc 505 mk2 and a midi pedal (like behringer fc1010) a good solution to play guitar and loop with some hands reach functions? Consider that I'd use just the 505 effects and amp simulations, I just use clean sounds for acoustic, ambient and dream pop songs... Thanx
Honestly I kinda want one just to try this out. I really can’t see how you’d go wrong with that. My only concern is potentially latency for exact loop starts. The ctrl pedal in should be used for primary looping because there is a millisecond delay to MIDI
@@brentbrownmusic yes I'd like the midi also for the expression pedal, I love the idea of rc 505 mk2 for both worlds (manipulating effects with hands in a sort of dj stile and even guitar style). I know I won't make complex looping structures, just need to have several options (I wanna find a good set to improvize music in theatre improvization performaces), I hope I'll be able to do that. Thanx a lot
This is true! But when I’m playing shows, I don’t use a set list and so I like a one size fits all setting I can roll with various mismatched measures on the fly. Thanks for watching yo🙌
Can hear the sound quality is way better on 600 from listening to the you explaining each one. I have noticed a nasty compression that happens on my RC505 that just crushes my guitar tone, wondering if the 600 will solve this.
Part of it was that I still hadn’t dialed in my tone as well. Different voice pedal on the rc-505 in the video and guitar. I’m soo much happier with my sound now. This from my last show I played with it. ua-cam.com/video/Clp7fYHpgNU/v-deo.html First, make sure the master compression isn’t on. Then try turning down your input gain; Preferably before it hits the 505 if u can. Or else in the EQ or on the mixer. Then turn up the total volume. Any time compression is happening without compression on, that is a sign u are sending too much signal through the pipe and clipping. Hope that helps!
Thanks, I'll be sure to check out the compression settings, cause I chucked it out of the chain on my last show! I watched the video, creative use of the looper. great arrangement!
@@KaneMuir Let me know if you have any luck with lowering that first stage of gain. Thanks a ton for watching my other video! I appreciate the compliment Kane:)
Honestly I perform differently which each. So for the finger drumming and full orchestration I prefer the 505 because of the faders and knobs at hands reach. But for a setup that’s easier to carry around and use, the 600 is a great bread and butter rig; It’s primarily what I gig with. I’m also working to perfectly document where the glitches I get occur, because that’s the only way BOSS fixes. I already got 1 thing fixed.
I have a hotone Ampero Control. I tried everything for midi assignments, checking cables, etc., UA-cam I can't assign the ampero with my rc 505 mk2. I'm completely lost Is there anyone who could help me? Thank you 🙏 Hervé Cosenza

Read page 20 of the rc mk2 manual and also reffer to the Ampero Manual to compare what they say under midi programing/sending/receiving. can you make one or the other, be like ableton looping or loopy pro ? meaning that you can tap record any time after the end of the loop and it will record to the start of the next one so you could get ready then stops to how many bars you set it to ?
I deleted the last comment cause I realized it was a diff video. Yea! Just have single play mode engaged and then set to stop at loop end for the tracks u want to do that to.
