I spend most of my days alone and I really enjoy watching you while I eat/cook and sometimes before bed. I feel like a have a company with me and I'm thankful for your existence!
I have major holiday + seasonal depression. For the past two weeks everything has felt like ‘what’s the point’ (work, eating nutritious foods, exercise, etc.) your videos & vlogs especially help me romanticize the every day..cooking, skincare, taking my dog for a walk. Things that can be perceived as a pain. I rarely get into this bad of a funk & I hadn’t watched your channel in a few months..sometimes I self sabotage by intentionally turning away from the things I know will motivate me or make me feel good. After starting to watch your videos again on Sunday, I had the best weekday I’ve had in such a long time yesterday & feel great again today. Thank you, Fern ☺️ I think in one of your recent vlogs you were worried that it was boring - they never are, I promise!
Hey Erin, I will be praying for you and always remember God is waiting for you with open arms and can take every single worry away from you! Hoping you will trust him ❤
You're one of the few UA-camrs that makes me feel like I am just hanging out with my friend and you're having a conversation with me. I love the longer and more low key videos! Love your work girl!
Please keep bringing longer videos I love watching you and your plants and just chatting, wish we could all sit down together you ,me and everyone in the chats just to talk at least once a week or even every month that would be so kool to make new friends around the world with semi same interests and or hobbies. Stay strong Fern you’re a gorgeous young woman and God Loves You!❤❤❤❤
The relief I felt when you got that ctenanthe out of the jar was immense. PHEW. I didn’t realize until I breathed a sigh of relief but I was holding my breath the whole time 🤣 so glad you got her out!
Hey Fern! if you over water your glass or no holed container of pon/ perlite that has a neck to it, it becomes a lot easier almost slushie like to pull the plant out:)
Love following along while you do your plant chores, Fern! Makes me get inspired to do my own. I found your channel because Jeff of Everything Plants mentioned you! Glad he did! Great idea to cover the soil with a simple bag, nothing worse than root rot....
I love the longer videos from you!! Also I have my linearis in a south facing window, hanging! I have some trees and stuff that block some of the light throughout the day so it gets periods of bright light with some indirect. It loves it!
I just got home from my fil's funeral on the other side of the country. I'm so greatful for your videos, you helped me feel a lil sense of normalcy when I was feeling sad and home sick 💖
I remember you said awhile ago that you were curious about what we do to combat algae, and I had to tell you my new favorite thing! I have been going to thrift stores and looking for lightly tinted glasses/vases so that I can still see the water level of my hydroponics, but now the algae no longer forms!! 🥳 Plus the few I have collected thus far are so gorgeous 😍 I totally got that idea from you so thank you once again, Fern! Loved this long video and your content never dissapoints 🥰
you should have used a chopstick to loosen the pon in the ctenanthe lubbersiana! i feel like it’s easier than a knife bc it’s skinny and kinda bendy. i always use chopsticks to loosen compact soil :)
I'd love to see an updated video about your soil mix ! As a huge leca grower from the beginning, I'm struggling with plants in soil (and honestly kind scared of it) Your soil mix video inspired me to pot my philodendron narrow in a chunky mix and it is probably the only philodendron I have in soil that is not rotting on me right now lol Thank you for your videos, they are always so entertaining and informative ! I love your energy too, so calm yet refreshing
About the plant stuck in the jar: I haven't tried pon but a trick I use for leca is filling the container its in with water (all the way) and then wiggling the plant out. It helps suspend the substrate to let the roots through. It always works for me, I wonder if you could do the same with pon? I would love to see if it ever happens again!
Hi Fern. Do you still have succulents and cacti in your collection? Somehow i havent noticed any in a while. I would like to see an update if you have the time 😊🌱 Best wishes from germany 🇩🇪 and lots of hugs for Olive 🐶❤
From my experience in bonsai I’d like to mention that when dealing with Pon which is v similar to bonsai soil, using a chopstick can be super helpful for getting rid of air pockets and clearing out hard to clear containers- use a chop stick to either push into the soil to let the air pockets fill with substrate OR when removing a stubborn plant, do the same and the soil will slowly get removed when turning the plant upside down- love watching your videos Fern!
You would crack up if you saw me when you were mixing the soil. I was mesmerized and actually caught myself holding my breath when you poured the perlite. So not to inhale it. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I've been using plastic wrap (and reusing endlessly) to make a tight seal on the pot when they don't need watering. I also tip them over sideways in the shower to wash the leaves, so water doesn't get down near the stem. I did it last night, but got too much in btw 2 separate stems on a plant I just thoroughly watered 2-3 days ago, so now I'm going to take it out of the pot and wrap the root ball tightly in paper towels. The Swedish plant guys said newspaper, but I don't have that, and the paper towels with a bunch underneath really saved a Hoya I overwatered! I checked on it everyday and as soon as the paper towels could no longer pull any water out I put it back in the pot. I only lost 2 leaves, so was happy to have that small of damage. Easily recoverable with that method.
About the Hoya linearis question-I have always kept mine in my south facing window. It gets a few hours of direct light a day, and the rest of the day it receives bright indirect. It grows like crazy and the leaves have never burned. They’re a nice healthy green color. I have never tried it in lower light but that would make me nervous.
Thank you for this long video. It motivated me to pest control all my plants and I finished right when the video ended I’m so happy :) I was dreading it but this made me feel better!
Ahhh girlie I had the same issue with a Philo in moss in a mason jar. It had just rooted up soooo much that it was impossible to get out without breaking the jar . My hubby took it outside and took a hammer to it 🙈 We freed the plant tho 🤷🏻♀️ You did great getting that Planty out
I like when you throw a longer video in every now and then. For my Hoya linearis i keep it in a south facing window that doesn’t have any obstructions so it gets a lot of sun all day. That’s the best window I’ve found for it. As for humidity that room can get down into the 30% range and still no problem for that Hoya.
I love your channel!! I’ve been having a hard time with my soil mix. The potting soil I use does not drain well so when I water, it doesn’t drain quickly - even though I add a lot of pumice and orchid bark. I have used coco coir in the past but I got the one that is in blocks and then you have to soak them which I hate doing. I’ve never seen a bag of coco coir! I’d definitely love to see an updated soil mix video 😊 also, I had never heard about pon so maybe including that too would be cool
@@wildfern I feel like I’ve gotten the chunks moldy!! 🤷♀️ I could possibly be an over waterer?! They don’t work for me.. or I don’t work for them 🤷♀️ I’m water for hammer time… the bashing of the mason jar 😂😂
All of this, especially the part about adding pon. I have a Hoya that needs repotting and the original potting mix it came in looks VERY similar to this, but there is also what appears to be some pon included. Also I noticed today how the mix I’ve been using is NOT draining as well as I’d thought, very muddy 😣 so yes please help!
Fern I absolutely love your nails 😍😍 also I loved the way the krimson princess looked after being potted up 😍 can’t wait to watch yours grow! I have 2 of them and they hardly grow at all 😭 so I hope yours thrives and explodes with growth so I can live it through you 😭😂💚
Hope your feeling much better on this beautiful monday! Well its sunny and 8 here in Toronto. I'm watering my orchids today and I enjoy watching others water like i do.
Hola I'm visiting my family in Puerto rico and i be watching you and my sister ask mewhat im watching i told her watch her u learnd alot about plant she was like i dont have that green thumb lol going back home tomorrow so happy i cant stand this heat here in the Island 💚💚💚💚
Enjoyed. One thing I used before pumice became a thing was chicken grit. Around here it is made from granite and comes in various sizes. You will have to look at what it is made up where you come from I'd get it from the local feed stores.
Hey Fern! I have two different Hoya Linearis. One grows in what I'd consider low light, and another in what I'd consider medium light and they both do perfectly well. Only time they give me any issues at all and lose leaves is if I let them dry out too long. They've both been in these light conditions for about 8 months. Hope it helps give you the courage to move her!
When you knocked over your Obliqua I literally yelled SAME loll. I was doing plant chores yesterday morning and went to pick up a plant off my bf's desk. One of my more uncommon Aglaonema. Ceramic pot slipped out my fingers, smashed onto my bf's metal desk, and then fell 3ft to the floor. HUGE mess of dirt. Like half the soil in the pot fell out. Had to vacuum and clean my bf's desk down. Then take my Aglaonema downstairs to the garage to top up the soil. I was so damn mad. I really felt that when you were just like hold up PAUSE.
i'm so interested in your use of the slow release fertilizer. i've always been resistant to them but the more plants i accumulate, the more they seem appealing!
I keep my linearis off to the side and pulled back 2 feet from a south facing window. Its seems to like that spot! gets a few hours of direct afternoon light. otherwise its indirect medium-ish light.
Hi Fern, thank you so much for sharing the potting mix with us. I was actually looking to ask about it and you did it. How cool 😎 is that. Love the videos and all the hard work you put into it. Keep them coming. I’m learning so much 💪🏽🥰🌱🌿🪴
