    Have a try at using plastic window mesh to line the bottom of pots. You can easily buy a roll of it. They’re easy to cut to size for different pot sizes, it’s washable/reusable, and best of all, it won’t mold since it’s made to withstand moisture.

    i recommend coffeefilterpaper for the bottom of the pot. I use one layer, so just one part of the filter. It works quite well and it doesn't cause mold probs. You might have to make a small hole, because sometimes the flow isn't well enough without doing so, but you will see. I put it in, let water drain through, put the plant in, water again.. and then i use my nails to poke through very carefully to check the water can come out :D the seramis and sometimes perlite i use, stays in anyway. It will work with soil as well i guess.

      I don't usually use my moisture meter for them because they're not at a high risk of being overwatered. If the pot is light and doesn't feel moist, I will water them. I wouldn't let them get lower than a 2 or 3 if I had to pick a number :)

    Ok I immediately thought of you when I found these - they're pots on amazon that are SUPER cute (cylindrical, have a drainage hole and a tray) and are plastic but come in terra cotta color! I know that terra cotta and plastic are pretty much the only 2 pots that you use, and you love the look of terra cotta, so I thought those would be perfect for plants that might need a plastic pot while still having the ~aesthetic~ of good old TC. I ordered a bunch for myself in white and terra cotta. Had a field day repotting some of my dudes in those while playing this vid in the background!

    The best solution I have found for covering the drain hole in pots is to use a piece of paper coffee filter. It eventually breaks down over time, but by then the plant/roots/soil has had time to settle in and establish a bit, and soil falling out is much less of an issue.

    I loved this video! Also learned some things from you.
    Love your calathea medallion, can’t believe you brought it back to life? It’s not you, it’s the plant lol, was also surprised to see that you give it tap water and tolerates it! I live in MB and my calathea freak out if i give them tap water lol
    Thank you for another lovely video Fern 💚💚💚 you’ve quickly become one of my fave plant tubers

      Awe haha! Yeah, I guess I am pretty lucky that they do okay with tap water. I always intend to collect rain water, but it doesn't happen lol. I need to work on that. Thanks for your kind words 🥰

    Do you give Calathea star regular tap water? Don’t you have any problems with the drying edge?

    My calathea white star just died to thripse and i am so sad, because she was so big and beautiful and i couldnt help her. I hate these thripse. First time dealing with them for me, i hope i can save my other plants that are infected. :(

    You never gave us an update on your cabinet? How’re the plants in there doing after the pest scare? 😷

    • @wildfern
      @wildfern  3 роки тому +1

      They are all good! I think it was soil mites in there, which are harmless... I am still monitoring the Anthurium though, I'm still not sure what was on them.
