Wait till you go through Chains of Harrow and get haunted by the man in the wall. Angles of the Zariman will revolve around the space ship where the tenno got their void powers in the first place. The New War will simply blow your mind as it's gonna be a quest at the grandest scale as the sentients return for a rematch after the Old War you hear about lore wise. It might take you up to 5 or 6 hours to complete that epic story line. The New War and The Duviri Paradox provide interesting context for each other. Then there's Whispers In The Walls that revolves around the Lovecraftian void entity you're introduced to during Chains Of Harrow.
Honourable mentions for The Sacrifice that gets you a version of Excalibur that has free will along with an emotional story about how comes this warframe is so one-of-a-kind. And also The Call Of The Tempestarii which is quite a treat when you get to hear the first and as of yet only sea shanty in the game. Or rather, space shanty which is btw very catchy and even more epic than We All Lift Together.
Point is, you're in for quite the ride tenno.

We can guide, make sure going in right direction, not making newbie mistakes if can help it. But the rule of no spoiling is held to such a high regard, that if someone does it, its not even a warning. Thankfully, only 2 or 3 have been kicked for spoiling content.

Here's a spoiler free sunmery of who the Orokin were: many many years into the real life future, humanity expanded beyond earth. A literal golden empire stood all over our solar system. They had a caste system with the Orokin being the highest caste, they saw every normal citizen as below them. And even treated them as experiments. The Orokin went through extreme plastic surgery making their arms assymetrical, their skin blueish grey, their eyes white and they would wear Greek style ropes of white and gold, loving in towers made of ivory and gold. They would also be almost 3 meter tall. And yes they would go to extreme lengths to prove that they are above everyone else. Even cheating death to the cost of their own citizens. (You'll find out more about during the War Within.... It was extremely fucked up). You might have met some of them on Deimos ;) (although they are a lot more reasonable because well... They are infested they are kinda powerless because of it) They created the Sentients, the Infested, the Corpus and the Grineer. You can learn how the Corpus was created by donating these Granun Crowns (you get for killing the Treasurers on board or Corpus ships) to the fontain with his statue on top of it. But in short: Parvos Granam (who you met during the Deadlock Protocol) was a poor peasant under the Orokin Empire. He then stole a gemstone from the city gate. The Orokin saw that and decided to publicky humiliate him and cut of his hand. But he sold the stone fir a shitload of money and started a busines. He made more money and created a capitalist city underneath the Feudal Orokin Empire. Oh he became so rich that he replaced his cut off hand with a golden hand. For the Grineer there'll be lore bits scattered all over the place but they basically clones people to create a lot of free labor. They were then used as soldiers to fight the Sentients during the Old War because the big amount of brute strength they had. But they were done being the genetically inferior disposable workers of the Orokin and started rebelling against them. But 2 Orokin twins who were outcasts hijacked their movement and made it fascist. They became their Queens. And you'll find out about the Infested and the Sentients during the Sacrifice Quest.
The Orokin society was also divided into classes. Above all you had The Seven Principles. We know very little about them since they were very secretive to make themselves be as detached from the rest of the population as possible. They wanted to hold so much power that they would feel like that they are gods. Then you had the Executors (there are 2 notable once whose names you should remember: Tuvul and Ballas. ESPECIALLY remember Ballas! You actually heard him talk with Margulis during the Second Dream!) And below them you had the Archimedeans and scientists. The most important one is Albrecht Entrati. If you are grinding for a Necramech (which you need anyway for the New War) you should take a look behind the Necramech vendor. You'll find some logs from this Albrecht Entrati. Listen to those logs! They are gonna be VERY VERY important to everything in this game!
Under the archimedeans and scientists you had the general rich powerful asshole Orokin class and under that you had regular normal citizens that were disposable to them.
    I think this is all?

Another thing of note is that the quest where you get Excal Umbra is where you find out how the first Warframes were made. Not a pretty sight. It’s even important to know about the Zariman Ten Zero and how that shaped the current timeline.
Speaking of which, I think that Albrecht Entrati is one of the more interesting characters in the entire series. Basically he made most of the stuff that we see in Warframe possible. At a price.

It was only 3 years, but yes, we _did_ lose our minds when this quest dropped. The Second Dream is the reason Warframe has a firm position on my list of my favourite games _of all time._ SkillUp did an entire video analysing this one (without actually spoiling anything) and he used the word "masterstroke"- the one little brilliant twist that turns a piece of art into a masterpiece. It's much harder for new players to be unspoiled these days, what with Operators being casually discussed in-game and in the promotional material, but it's still taboo for Warframe veterans to spoil the twist of The Second Dream for a newbie. One of THE greatest experiences in all of gaming, and some people even claim that the follow-up quest, The War Within, is even _better_ (I personally don't agree, it doesn't _quite_ have that same jaw-dropping gut punch impact as the final reveals of The Second Dream, but it's still incredibly epic).

As a veteran who has played since day 1 it was on Steam, even when new people start now, all I say is "get to the second dream, that's when you really understand the game" :P Was mindblowing to be there as it happened, what I love about DE is they go "this is a cool idea...let's just add it", it's so many different things in one experience these days. I just wish the new player experience was a bit better still because it's hard to make people invest in that initial commitment, but anyone I know who has, has never stopped playing since.

I don't think it's as easy to stumble onto the spoiler that easily. First of all it's so ridiculous that u wouldn't assume that it's true unless it's explained to u directly, then there's that operators are invisible in relays and hubs until u do that quest. Also there's the fact that most newbies just don't notice it.
Yes you could use the operator in a mission with a newbie, and I'm just speaking from my own experience here, but I accidentally saw an operator in front of me in hydron, and the vet noticed. So he, the gigachad that he was, started moonwalking into the wall and typing in chat that he "got the Cetus child model bug again" and the other two played along as if they were trying to get him to get killed so he could self revive.
Another time was in a random squad in the plains at night. 3 people were eidolon hunting, typing in chat about lures and operators. I was flying above them with my archwing and continuesly asking "guys what's an operator?". They completely ignored me thankfully, and I eventually left without even noticing the operators. Call me blind but how many times have u actually looked at ur teammates directly?

@@balbalofficial8212 ...on the other hand, a new player might innocently watch the cinematic trailer for The New War and find themselves asking "Who is this kid that came out of that Warframe, why can she shoot a disintegrating ray from her hands, and why does she have a memory of being carried by the Lotus?" Even DE have pretty much given up on protecting the spoiler these days because the Operator has become so integral to further developments in the game.

@@sutton9000 Well, to be fair... *MINOR SPOILERS*
At least to my understanding, the Duviri stuff happens before, simultaneously, and after the other events of the main story. That's part of the time paradox nature of it. It's also why after it was introduced it became one of the options for new players to start the game rather than the classic Warframe start, since there's a stable time loop connecting parts of everything.
It does shift your perspective on how you're introduced to certain characters, but whether that's for the better or the worse depends on the player's opinion and how the experience felt to them personally. Some might like getting introduced through Duviri first, since they get a stronger connection to some characters, while others might like the other route better as it means there's more mystery to who those characters are.

The part before the drums is Lotus(the singular voice) speaking to the choir (Tenno) then the drums kick in signaling the Old War. Then the Lotus lulls the Tenno to sleep. And finally the song ends with Lotus waking us up from our Second Dream. Congrats on beating the tutorial! To clarify some things about the story. From the quest you learn you were on a ship called the Zariman Ten-Zero (hence the name Ten-0, Tenno), when something called the Void Jump Accident happened. It gave you uncontrollable powers. The orokin wanted to kill you because of those powers, but a woman named Margulis, who you hear throught the quest, protected you. She developed Transference as a sort of therapy, where you would be put into a sleep and your mind would be transfered into a vessel that could contain your powers. The Orokin, seeing this as an oppertunity, sought to use you as weapons and control Warframes. Margulis objected to this and they killed her for it.
Lotus hid the moon in the void because to protect you from The Sentients. Sentients are weak to void energy, which is why your beam attack does so much damage to them, and why they became unable to have children when they traveled through the void to our solar system (As explained in the Natah quest).
Youll get a bunch more details about your past in future quests, but thats a summarization of the details you have been given so far. I would argue that the quests you have ahead of you are even better than this! Enjoy tenno!

It’s so cool as someone a legend 1 player looking back and seeing a Tenno who is so passionate and awe struck by the reveal (keeps ng this comment as spoiler free as I can). I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even think about it, I treat the operator as my second skin and in some cases there are frames whose kits, without the operator, would feel unfulfilled and lacking. Honestly this video has inspired a slightly jaded player like myself to reflect and appreciate what has lead me here, it’s been a hell of a journey and I’ve done a lot, from helping the ostron, Solaris united, the entrati and everyone else along the way. The world of the game might be pretty easy to notice the additions that time has brought but I really think everything comes together to form a beautiful world and such a good story (even if a certain character with a limited vocabulary get on my nerves). I remember sitting there, going through this quest the day it came out and my brother and I freaking out about it, so much of the world gets blown open with just this quest and it’s like a stone tossed in a still puddle, as soon as the ripple starts there’s no going back, everything else falls into place. This is why I love DE, are they greedy sometimes? Yes, but every company wants to make money. Are they short sighted pretty frequently? Admittedly yes, old de tended to be a bit short sighted, but new de has so far been very thorough in the updates since the introduction of Voruna, the last one that even remotely feels like a content island is Duviri, everything else is nicely done within the star chart. I love this game, it’s a special thing to me, and I love the devs for staying so devoted to it and trying their best to make the game fit the vision they began with. Here’s to another decade Warframe

Yeah this quest is exceptional. Not only is it a great reveal in itself but it is also masterfully crafted. The music gets you in the perfect mindset. It is not uncommon to hear people talk about how they were in tears during this quest and a huge part of the is how powerful the music is. The timing of the events in the throw you from surprise to confusion and on into curiosity. And that in the span of about 5 seconds. The question goes from 'who is that?' to 'Is that me?' And while your certainty grows it is only when the child reaches the warframe and places its hand on the it that you are certain.
But there are more surprises and mysteries. The near confirmation that the Stalker is itself a Tenno. The Lotus is a real person. What are the warframes? How can it act on its own? Why does the Stalker hate you so much?
It is worth noting that before this quest came out there was a lot of speculation on what the Warframes were and who we were. Were they suits we put on to go fighting? This idea ran into the problem that different warframes had different genders. So were we controlling them remotely? Well then why would they not look more like robots similar to the ones the corpus have? As I recall there ended up being two schools of thought on what we were playing. One group thought that the warframes were robots remotely controlled by our character and that the look of the warframes was a stylistic choice. Another group believed we were not actually playing an individual but rather that each warframe was the personal suit of a separate person. So in effect we were playing a whole group of people. And then BAM 'Second Dream'. Seemingly answering all our questions. And yet it only really answers one of them and that one not fully.
There are still so many questions...... so you know... good luck with that.

What i love even more about this quest is how the cracks were there from the beginning. Before i started the second dream i was scrolling through warframes and gauss caught my eye. I was like "how can a guy fit in that thing? Arent his feet too small for that?" And just... ignored it, somehow. Same with octavia and wisp. Like i straight up didn't even question it. like a dream.
This was before frames like xaku, citrine and dagath were in the game. I can't imagine how a baby tenno might stumble across dagath who has no face, or xaku which is literally just a spooky skeleton.

Having played Warframe since 2013 long before this quest ever existed by the time i got the end of it i was sitting at my computer feeling kinda like i'd been punched in the gut and thinking
"What the fuck just happened?". This quest took every theory, thought and expectation I had about what a Warframe was and who the Tenno were and just blew them all into millions of little pieces.

A while ago, the game's developers announced plans to release a purchasable pack that lets players skip story quests so they can access the latest content immediately. The intent was to let veterans invite new friends to play alongside them, but there instantly was a lot of pushback from nearly everyone, and they very quickly announced that this story-skip pack would no longer be released.
This video explains exactly why this pack would have been a bad thing. The Second Dream is one of the greatest moments in any MMO game; its ending is the defining scene of the entire game. Every player deserves to get to see this amazing moment.

Hunhow was actually first shown in the New Strange iirc but first named in the Natah quest. He is the father of the Lotus (Natah). The sentients hate the Orokin, and in turn the Tenno.
And the Orokin were human, for the most part. They were the ruling class in their empire. The Tenno are not directly orokin but they were members of their empire. As for the ship mentioned, the Zariman 10-0, it was a colony ship that was supposed to jump to Tau Ceti. Although things had gone horribly wrong. The ship was missing for years, until it randomly appeared one day from the Void. The only ones aboard being the Children.
Margulis, the woman heard whilst on Lua, was the one to take pity upon these oprhaned misfits. She was a mother figure to them all, even if they burned and blinded her sometimes. She had eventually developed Transference with the help of Archimedian Sylvana, although shes not important later

Man, are you in for a treat... Warframe's story is not only gargantuan, it is an *insanely* well-written exploration of identity and purpose. This little space-ninja game truly has some of the most personally touching moments I have ever had in a videogame, right up there with Nier: Automata, if not exceeding it.
One thing I do want to mention, is that the Lotus did not phase the moon into the Void by her own power. Humans - which are also called "The Orokin," just to clear that up for you, it's the name of the old human empire - built that giant cage around the moon to allow it to travel around the star system and protect itself from invasion. All the Lotus did after the Old War concluded was just turn its engine on and phase it permanently into the Void with herself, and us, still on board.
Really looking forward to more videos from you as you progress along your Warframe journey. You are just getting started, my friend. You're only just now awake, Tenno; now the real work begins!

  • @Ammuze11

    Spoilers ahead
I've played this game on and off since the start of it back in its beta days. There was only a star chart. You picked your loadout and you entered into a mission. No walking around anywhere. No real plot line. Hell, the bosses looked basically like your common Grineer enemies. They just had more health and had a name. They were basically glorified eximases. But something that was always a constant all the way back then was that you are the Tenno and that the Stalker is hunting you.
Year after year after year, I was called Tenno. I was hunted by the Stalker. I spoke with Lotus (Who used to say 'The Lotus will be proud' as though there was another Lotus. It got retconned. Now she's the only person named 'Lotus'.) I would kill the Stalker. The Stalker would kill me. Me, the Tenno and him, the Stalker, always duking it out. And he was always mysterious to me.
Now come many years later, and the Stalker is a main focus of the story. And not just him, but the Tenno as well. I had become so comfortable with me being the Warframe that Tenno and Warframe were the same. There was nothing else. I was the suit, I was the weapon.
And then Second Dream flipped it all. Everything I thought I knew for many many years. All the way back to the game's infancy (I played Dark Sector before Warframe as well), it all changed. Natah pushed me towards wondering about the woman who had been my guide for so many years, but Second Dream told me who I was all along. It wasn't a few days or a week or a month after starting the game that some newer players experienced. It was so long. And then I learn that, all this time, I was incomplete. That there were two of us in this war.
To say that I have been blown away by DE's Warframe universe is an understatement. It is, without a doubt, my favorite Sci-Fi universe I have ever experienced. And time after time, Digital Extreme has shown that, when it comes to lore, world building, characters, artistic design and general writing, when they cook, we're eating like kings.

The problem with 2nd Dream, New War, etc. is that these are cinematic questlines that barely have anything to do with the actual game.
As you put more hours into Warframe and really start to understand it, you will find that your view of these quests shifts from "mindblowing unexpected moment" to "another bored dev team's glamour project".
There is so much in Warframe that is simply not functional. The game is broken on a very fundamental level, and DE is too scared of upsetting the playerbase that has stuck with the game (which as a result of their choices is mostly very lazy people prone to buying plat to skip playing) and actually fix their stuff.
If you're a new player or haven't played it, this probably sounds hyperbolic, and that's because the new player experience is actually well balanced and works very well, but once you're past a certain point in your account's progression the game simply breaks, and not in the fun PoE way, but in the very boring Warframe way.
This brokenness of the RPG elements reached a breaking point with the playerbase when the Railjack update came out, which fell into all the exact same traps of the main game and quickly turned into yet another "Enter room, Press button, Everything dies" chore. This led to a mass exodus at the time, as players completely lost hope that DE had any intention of making the game better. With some of the newer content it seems that their solution has been to put a parallel minigame inside the game while keeping the busted warframe gameplay the same, and that hasn't won it any favors with anyone outside of the people who didn't leave, at least from what I can see.
Aside from the RPG elements being completely out of balance even at a mid-point in your progression, the networking and connectivity for the game just doesn't work.
It's not noticeable if you're just killing hordes of enemies, but whenever you're fighting a boss in multiplayer it becomes very apparent how janky everything is, with constant popping and snapping to place, broken animations, glitches, really the works.
The 2 exceptions to this would be the Eidolons and the Profit Taker, but these are more like scripted Zelda-like puzzle bosses than actual action RPG fights and I'm not a programmer or anything but they seem to be handled by the game in a completely different way from bosses like Vor or the robodogs.
Ironically this is not much of a big issue in terms of getting things done, because the RPG elements are again so unbelievably broken that the bosses get vaporized in 0.1 seconds no matter what, including the Nemesis dudes.
Within the context of Warframe as a whole, including the time where opening relics was made purposefully unfair and revives during missions cost platinum(I didn't forget), these quests just feel like the devs played nu-God of War or TLoU and wanted to also make a moviegame like their industry friends.
Credit where it's due, unlike GoW and TLoU they do stick with actual videoludic narrative elements instead of cheaply going "Press L3+R3 to accept the truth", they actually use established game mechanics and flip them on their head to tell a piece of the story, and often use these big set pieces to introduce new features.
Great moments like that are why there's still a lot of people who hope&cope that Warframe will hit the spot for them at some point. It's always "offensively mediocre with moments of greatness" and I think most people at this point figured out that it's is all it is meant to be.

The New War, The Sacrifice, The War Within quest, are gonna be a joy ride for you. The Second Dream is what kicks off the true past of the Tenno, Warframes, and just what the Orokin were capable of, why the Tenno was so important to controlling the Warframes. I have completed every single quest in the game, Mastery 18, and it only gets better from there. This quest, was the true tutorial of the game, and now, you will see the game in a new way, when you do The Sacrifice, you will see the warframes in a new light, you will see them differently, and understand just what it means to control the Warframe, and feel new emotions when you look at them. DE has outdone themselves with how the player experience truly begins from this point on. I hope you enjoy the game, and enjoy just how the world opens up from this point onward.

Oh, this rabbit hole goes much deeper. You are only beginning. Wait until you meet the maker of the Warframes. Wait until you meet the _other_ version of the operator. I don't believe the game has dropped anything about the Man in the Wall yet, who's the real big threat, who they've just started fully revealing recently. The scale of what you're dealing with is progressively revealed to be larger than you thought with every single story arc.

The second dream was the BEST, I was kinda aware of the existence of the Operator thanks to MatPat's game theory. But I didn't really know when or how it would be included. Then I did this and had to deal with suddenly getting a whole new character, the "Pilot" if you would.
I was blown away by the idea that the operator would be an actual character to play, something to kinda link all the different "playable characters", yet in and of itself stands on it's own. the series just gets more wild. Personally I'd say War Within and The Sacrifice are the most 'ground shattering' to me, but this was the start of the secrets being discovered. 100+ hours into my game.

Seconding all the other commenters saying that oh boy, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! I originally got into Warframe story-end-first, meaning that I was pretty thoroughly spoiled on most of the storyline (and my Tenno as an OC predates my Warframe account by about three weeks lol), but I played many of the more recent quests totally blind, and I am SO glad I did. While I still think Second Dream provides the hugest context shift, the main quest line has no shortage of other plot twists, and other awesome experiences. Have fun!
(P.S. Spoiler-free tips that idk if you realized:
-You’re not locked into your initial focus school choice; it takes some investment but you can change it as much as you want later
-The next main quest after War Within is Chains of Harrow
-Did you ever find a funky stone door in a cliff in Cetus that wouldn’t open for you? Try it again in Operator form
-A lot of the “optional” side stuff, notably syndicate pledging and Nightwave, is totally worth doing. Save your Nightwave cred for potatoes (Orokin Catalysts and Reactors) if there’s nothing else you want
-Conclave is not worth doing though
-The only mechanically necessary thing you need platinum for is inventory slots. Everything else is either cosmetic or available through gameplay. If you need plat but don’t want to spend real-life money, there are lots of things you can sell to other players, including Prime parts, rare mods, and some miscellaneous stuff like fish lol
-DE does livestreams regularly on Twitch. Beware LOTS of spoilers if you decide to watch those, but even having them on in the background will get you cool in-game drops if you link your Warframe account to a Twitch account (which you can do on the Warframe website)
-A weapon is good if you like it. End of story)

If i'm remembering the timeline correctly, you're a bit out from reaching New War. I see you finished War Within, but i believe you have The Sacrifice, then Apostasy Prologue, then Prelude to War, THEN you can get into New War. provided you have a railjack built, i think a necramech has to be built, and it MIGHT have an Angels of Zariman requirement as well. The sacrifice might be optional, and i don't know if Angels is required beforehand. In fairness, when i actually DID second dream, that was when it released eight years ago, so i am hard-pressed to identify prerequisites as i just have done stuff as it released.
oh, as a heads up (no spoilers) the New War is LONG. and i don't think it's one you can stop partway through. I think it took me and my buddies like 4-5 hours to complete?
I was in the group of people who had significant time in game when this quest dropped. It... yea, it caused some shifts in perception. If i remember correctly, that update was like, six months after Natah released? maybe closer to a year. but it was one of the first story-telling quests in any form. It predates any of the open world zones. I think they started doing more story-driven stuff because of the reception that Natah/Second Dream had.

God I want to like this video but at the same time you sound so new and ignorant to Digital Extremes actual greed that I can’t in all good faith give you a like. Beat all the quests and be completely Cairo up with all the man in the wall quests and stuff then wait 3 more months. Then tell me you still love, head-over-heals this game. 70 hours is not worth considering yet. Try 200+ most vets who’ve been playing for 5+ years or way back when the game had raids your looking at players with 10,000+ hours. To us the game is fun but lost a lot of its heart over 5 years ago.

For me personally the introduction of the Drifter (and wonky time jumping) is what fundamentaly changed Warframe. I consider time travel, time paradoxes and time jumping a screwed up can of worms that CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT be taken seriously because it simply cannot be unraveled properly. The fact that Warframe attempted to do this with the Drifter and Duviri Paradox just made it significantly drop in my eyes. I still love the game, but I hate the living hell out of the Drifter concept and I just can't stand to play Duviri more than absolutely necessary. I appreciate the Duviri Circuits allowing us to get base frames easier, but other than that I refuse to set foot into Duviri.

For me this quest didn't really have an impact for me, the reason being is that i kinda figured out that Warframes weren't really us from the beginning, i thought i was controlling an old robot that was rebooted by lotus.

I remember playing it back when it first came out. I had been playing Warframe for around two years already so I didn't know much of the lore. Just little nuggets here and there. However; Finding out I was a child was a complete shock to me and then being able to customize said child was such a brilliant move on DE's part. The sacrifice quest was also another shocker to me. The frames themselves can be made from humans by using the infected virus such as in the case of Excalibur Umbra. Because some frames couldn't be controlled, the children found on the Zariman Ten 0 (Tenno) --The Zariman was a colony ship which had a void jump accident and caused its inhabitants to be left stranded--were used to control the beasts in their experiments because they had acquired the ability to use void powers. Check out Rhino's and Ember's codex entries.

It tricked me. Only just completed the war within. Put in about 50-60hours (most just ranking weapons and warframes up). Now just trying to do mastery rank 12 as i cant do the MOT in void mission

I started the game in 2018 and probably played the Second Dream in 2022. So yeah, quiet some hours before getting to that point XD I got spoilerd just a little bit. I did not know what was coming but since I played early on with people that played that quest long before I did actually know that there was SOMETHING coming. Still catched me what happend.
I was thinking about replaying all replayable main quests, since I have played some of them years ago without actually paying attention and I honestly can't really put together what happend in which quest.
And just to give u a hint there are even better quest waiting for u! (and I hope to hear your oppinion on those)
And to add another note: I have read some descriptions of the game from the time when most of the story didn't exist yet and from players that haven't played much of the story... I really didn't had in mind what the game seemed to be about in the beginning XD

as someone who played from beta, not really diving into the lore. also assuming the frames were suits. i probably had around 1000 hours when i played the second dream quest, and honestly it might be the biggest revelation i have ever experienced in a game. I didn't know, but i had an inkling about what i would find. but when that pod opened, and my frame fell to it's knees, i fucking SCREAMED.
it was a genuinely insane experience.

The Second Dream is easily the most consequential quest in Warframe, from a narrative perspective. It reveals the true nature of the Tenno and kickstarts the "real" story. The War Within is mechanically far more significant as it introduces Operator mechanics, but The Second Dream is THE cornerstone of the entire story. There's a reason its central theme song is called "This Is What You Are". And good GODS is it the best music Warframe's ever done!
Incidentally, there's a pretty simple reason for why The Second Dream is such a huge blind-side reveal late into the game - it was a pretty late addition. When Warframe first launched, it was little more than one mission type, one enemy type, one tileset and four Warframes. The concept of Operators didn't turn up until years later and DE decided to not retro-fit it into the new player experience. Instead, it shows up later as a reveal. Lately, they seem to be going back on that idea a bit, since so much of the experience is locked behind Second Dream, War Within, Sacrifice and New War.

I recommend you to actually take your time with the quests, digest them after finishing one, trying to understand them on a basic level.
To me there is a problem that came up, where you can just rapid fire them... which mightnot be the ideal experience.
BUT yeah i still love this quest.
you possibly already got a small recap, but the basics of the story are that the orokin were once the dominant "race", colonizing the solar system with Craftsmen (grineer) and the Economy managers (corpus), kept in check by the Dax, augmented soldiers in strict service of the orokin.
They managed to Solve the problems of death, but as Albrecht Entrati once said; "immortal as we are, we die with the sun"
Starved of recources, they had to expand theyr grounds. There the conflict with the sentients came in, in which the tenno were basically found by pure luck... Although luck isn´t the right word, because at the end they caused the Orokin empire to fall and vanish.
There are some good Lore videos out there, you could read it up on wiki or something, but there are bound to be spoilers. And actually unlocking the ingame information codex can be a LONG incoherrent mission.

I'm playing games for 30 years now and at a point it felt like no game could ever give that '... wow' feeling anymore. Iconic moments (Father.. is it over?) were often dumbed down by a feeling 'meh seen this before'. Warframe, wich i play since the P2P era, was always that 'great game, but not story amazing' and that mission.. Blew a homerun and 10 more. It is by far the best experience of the last decade by miles. Although people that started to play later on, it has far less impact, the shroud of mistery around these 'who are warframes' is lifted and the impact of this mission is far less then it ever was (specialy because any given mission with others, you seem them popping around).

I'm glad you're liking the game story. I've played for like 3500 hrs so I'm kind of over the story, but I still do really like the gameplay loop. It wasn't until recently that Nova finally surpassed Oberon as my most played frame (I played Oberon a lot back in the beginning because he can heal himself, which isn't easy a lot of the time)

Had a genuine belly laugh there for a second. "Seventy to eighty hours in... that's a really long time." Oh, you sweet summer child. Not laughing at you mind. Just genuinely amused at thinking back what I thought at that approximate time spent. Not far off five thousand at this point. Glad to see you're enjoying the story. Have fun!

I went blind when I started playing Warframe a year ago. But man, I did not just expect a stellar lore and story-telling. All I expected is a looter-shooter with cool customization.
This quest made me fall in love with Warframe. And it is indeed one of the most memorable gaming moments I've ever exerienced. And the funny thing is, there are more quests in Warframe that gav me the same feeling.
I highly recommend Warframe for both combat ANd lore/story lovers. This game offers both.

Prior to this Quest, the name Tenno was a link to the game Dark Sector where you played Hayden Tenno, who early on gets access to a Proto-Excalibur Suit. I believe one of the boss fights is against a Proto Nyx suit-wearing person. It's been so long since I played that game. I think early on people thought that you were a descendant of Hayden.
So more than flipping the game on its head with the introduction of the Operator it also undid everything people thought they knew about the links between Dark Sector and Warframe. Now the only relic of that currently is the Dark Sector nodes on the Star chart.
And now with Warframe 1999 it looks like they are going back and maybe rewriting those links in a whole new way.

The thing about The Second Dream when it was released was.... We had zero idea that we were never IN the warframes. We had no idea we weren't physically wearing suits of armor. The context of this moment was significant because we were no longer just "robot space ninjas" we were an orphan with powers way beyond our comprehension, stuck in a cryopod in the void. The whole time, we were piloting the Warframes with our minds from literally another dimension. Not only that, but we learned that the Warframes weren't just special suits. They were their own entity. They could move by themselves, without our input. Our relationship was symbiotic.
Literally none of this was known when this quest dropped. And for literally years the entire Warframe community kept this a giant secret from new players. Not until they started using this information in promotional material around the hype of The New War did people start talking about it more freely.

Oh *brother* you have so much ahead. Eldritch entities, pocket dimensions, mastering your *true* powers, maturing, growing, fighting in a war, learning what *warframes* actually are. Supposedly the next upcoming story arc after the current one involves time travel???
