It would be fun if amp reviews on UA-cam were reviews in the way we have most reviews, i.e. actual critiques. The reviewer here clearly thinks high gain on this amp is crappy, which is of course the case, but can’t actually say it. How are we supposed to use these reviews for actual purchases when everything is « fine » all the time. This amp is good value, just know it’s bad at high gain stuff. There. It’s not a bad product, but come on, say something useful.
Great job, Sir! I love mine. I was in the market for a very good solid-state combo amp with "tube-like" tones. Being the owner of way too many heavy, high-maintenance tube combo amps, I was leaning toward the ROSS BLUES CUBE. Then I saw the price. Just as expensive as a very good valve amp. I got really lucky & came across my AV30 used online ($200.00 USD). I think it may be my new back-up amp for small live gigs...
Great review and playing. I bought this amp for just learning songs at my house and it has been pretty good. I love Clean 1 - OD 1. I don't really care for the Hi-Gain sounds of the amp. For those sounds I run my Boss DS-1 and Big Muff through the Clean 1 channel and they sound great.
I love how people give this amp a crappy review or look past it because they think its a digital modelling amp. This amp is fu*kin amazing. It's not digital it's ANALOG--8 ANALOG circuits. You can pick it up used for $200 bucks. Here is why this amp is dope and worth way more. All the amp circuits are analog, very close copies of the actual circuits used in the amps they are modelled after. People are spending $200 PER PEDAL for amp in a box pedals (with no tubes at all mind you) with the same kinda sounds and circuits--either to play through their clean amps or hook up to sims to do recordings etc. If you got 8 dif pedals all based on these circuits (which there are pedals made for every one of these amp circuits), --it'd be $1600. You have these circuits: clean 1= fender tweed/ deluxe reverb clean 2= fender bassman crunch 1=ac15 crunch 2=ac 30 001= marshall plexi 002=marshall jcm800 hi gain 1= Marshall sv20h (can also sound very orangey) high gain 2= EVH 5150. So right off, the fenders are great, nothing special, just good sounding cleans. The circuits that absolutely SHINE are the ac30 crunch 2 setting....its amazing, and both the marshall plexi circuit and the marshall jcm800-- these things sound absolutely phenomenal. The marshalls respond like marshalls, the gain responds to the picking dynamics, there is no lag or disconnection like you see in almost every modelling amp ever. On my other amps, I ALWAYS use some type of king of tone/bluesbreaker pedal to get that kinda marshally breakup, or that transparent type overdrive. You don't need it or want it on this amp because all the marshall circuits so so freaking good. Also if it doesn't sound right, its not the amp that sucks, make sure you are switching the switches under the tubes to best setting for the circuit you are on, and mess with the eq a lil bit, boost some mids, scoop some mids, whatever. This amp is really a underrated lost treasure, and it's only a matter of time before someone famous starts using one for studio recording or using in shows miked up......then they will be impossible to find and $1000
You know what’s strange? These guys have an effects loop, how come nobody ever tested the preamp circuits into the power amp of a real tube amplifier? Something really interesting might have happened!
I own a great Vox amp and I love it. Seriously I would push you in front of a bus to save my amp but the Brit or MKII setting on my amp has made me fall in love with Orange. I may just sell a kidney or a lung to get me an Orange Rocker 32 :)
Nice Demo. Is the AV30 too loud for apartment bedroom practice? Can chimey cleans and pleasing overdriven/high gain sounds be achieved at low volumes? Thanks!
Michael Griffith yes you can achieve these overdriven tones at low volume. I max out volume on guitar and control master from amp. With gain set high and guitar volume maxed, I only have to put master at 2 or 3 and it's good in apartment
Vox AV series or Vox VTX series...which do you like better, and why? I can't make up my mind between the AV30 and VT40X. I like that the AV30 has an output for an external cab and an effects loop, but I think the VT40X has more usable amp model presets. Great demo BTW.
+Guitar Interactive - The Free Online Guitar Magazine Hi! I just bought this amp and I hear that slight hum/buzz when turned on (even when nothing is connected and all controls are at minimum). It seems your unit does the same on the video. Is this normal on this kind of amp? I'm starting to think it's faulty. Thanks!
It's a Fret King Country Squire Semitone Deluxe. The man in this video does a review of it here on youtube. He clearly liked the guitar so much he kept it! ttps://ua-cam.com/video/Yir8CyMDsIU/v-deo.html
Thats a good question sanad i jus got a VT40X N IM tryna decide if i wanna trade 4 an AV model 30 or 60 not sure wat to do hear does anybody have any feedback on this issue
@@larryhuston3867 Did you end up trading in the VT40X for an AV30 or AV60? After over a month of research and watching lots of demo videos, I'm still trying to decide between a VT40X and an AV30 or AV60. Still can't make up my mind.
@@ethanpunto9222 Ended up getting a Vox AV30 demo unit from Sweetwater for less than $190. Great deal, no regrets. Small 10" speaker, but I play it thru a Marshall 1960 4x12 cab and it sounds great.
Martinal no i didnt trade in VT40x 4 AV60 vt40x has more stuff 2 learn about biggest issue 4me learning new stuff however the more i play it the btr it gets it has only 1tube in it and AV60 has 2 and less stuff 2 learn.i upgraded spkr n got the VFS5 footswitch its past warranty date n its much less$$than the AV60
i believe most everyone will say AC30. its a classic. i would totally try them out first. some people cant hear a significant difference between solid state and tubes. ac30 will need its tubes changed every other year so thats something to consider if you dont hear much of a difference. itd already be a few hundred dollars cheaper with the solid state without the need to constantly buy tubes and pay someone to install them. most of the time tubes come out and go in easily but youre gonna need someone who knows what theyre doing to bias the thing. dont try biasing yourself. you can get electrocuted even with the amp not plugged in. try them out for real. ive a met a couple people who actually prefer a solid states with digital processing and stuff. they say the warmth of the tone muffles the guitar to their ears. its not a popular opinion but theres no right or wrong for everyone. the only one thats wrong for you is the one you dont like the sound of. i always get my balls busted by old folks and other guitarist for keep my mids maxed but thats what tone that sounds like me so to hell with them. ill play this oversaturated mess til people think theres cotton in their ears cause its my tone so i do what i want. oh yeah i almost forgot: the AC30 is loud as hell. alot louder than youd think for 30 watts.
Dunno may trade up my AC30 for one of these and a distortion pedal. Problem is I have no place to plug in headphones for quiet time. Also go black star tube for higher gain.
AC30, easily, but one to consider would be the AC10C1 which is probably just as loud as this one (because it’s a full tube amp) and sounds way better. The AC10 costs a bit more though and is less versatile. Depends what you want really.
Sorry, but it's not good for anything else than a bedroom playing. When you crank it up loud then you'll get nothing but mud. Buy something else than this. You'll be not able to gig with this amp.
Not gigable! Very loud, but not gigable. Sounds terrible when loud. Sound is a little better when plugged in a good, big cabinet. This amp is enough only for bedroom playing. Then one can adjust a nice sound.
So i only came here to hear others play on high gain. And i found out what i tried to find out: Its not my guitar or my amp, this amp is simply not made for high gain, sounds dull. I shouldnt have bought it 2 years ago since i only play metal. But my budget was low (bought it for 290€) and i wanted an integrated delay, still better than mei 10 watt 50€ used hiwatt from before, but still, know i kind of want a decent one for clear, distorted metal sound, that can still carry the heaviness

Zackary Johnson how well does it take pedals? Can I use a zoom g5 with it?
Much better demo than others, especially the effects. Didn't know had to press in switch before increasing ir decreasing effects.

Versatile amp and nice video but perhaps next time back off on the reverb usage or at least vary it.

Does AV30 sounds good with OD2 at 80% gain while volume is at the bare minimum? What about H.Gain1 at 80% gain plus lowest volume?
Strangely I had that issue when the amp was upstair, I moved it downstairs it's load better, don't ask me for the logic, it's just my experience
there is no sign of intelligent life in this thread

Kozmo260 not very well with a drummer but put in an external cab or plug it into the pa and it’ll be fine
