Most younger Millennials and Zoomers wouldn't understand '80s and '90s car HP ratings. They forget that it was a representation of its time, technology, and standards of the day. They forget that those cars were also a lot lighter than much more modern cars -- they didn't need 700hp just to make it move, like today's cars. Let's not forget, either, that 225hp was still respectable even into the mid-2000s. The 2002-07 WRX was 227hp, an SRT4 Neon was 215-230hp (depending on year), and the supercharged Cobalt SS and ION Redline was 205hp. A VERY underrated 205hp, but 205hp nonetheless. Horsepower isn't EVERYTHING when in comes to a performance car, or a vehicle's driving dynamics. It's a decent part of the equation, but it isn't everything.
I think some people get so focused on power, they forget about the other driving dynamics. yeah, my grandmother's buick makes twice as much power as my honda. but the honda is half a ton lighter, a few feet shorter, & the suspension is tuned for a sportier feel. on paper, the buick should be more fun. but it isn't.

They can combine things from Diddly Squat farm, Hawkstone brewery, May's pub, Hammond's car modifications (with crazy/deadly adventures) to it. Ford have always set cars up well. Even without a 50/50 weight balance, they handle very well for what they are. Biased as I own a MK3 ST pushing over 31lb/min of air and a lot of suspension changes.
The post 90s cars weigh twice as much though. Back in the 80’s people didn’t believe in safety, so cars were light. So 200hp then wouldn’t feel like 200hp today.
The focus mk2 st / rs may have nothing to do with cosworth, but i'll be surprised if their prices don't shoot through the roof with their legendary inline 5's which can easily be pushed to over 600bhp and be awd converted by bolting on some volvo bits

Now I'd love to have a Sierra and spice it up with a new engine and making sure it's fully updated to today's standards. Making it into a real powerful vehicle will make it a lot more interesting.
Interesting you say about everyone wanting to be associated with Cosworth these days, Bugatti seem to have downplayed their input into the Tourbillon quite a bit
Lotus Carlton 5 door salooon from back then had 377hp it was 0.4 seconds quicker to 60 than a Ferrari Testarossa. Caused the entire UK to have to upgrade its police vehicles as they couldn't catch it, was a green one done ram raiding all over the country and was never caught, mp's tried to have it banned. That's the real legend from the 90's never mind a cosworth, The cosworth badge was more like an apple on a phone these days, the phones aren't as great as your told or folk belive but people love showing off the apple for some reason.
I mean, the Carlton barely sold over 900 units, mean while ford sold over 10,000 Cosworths to the U.K. market alone. Not to mention the cosworth motor could easily be mapped up to 300bhp. Yes the Carlton was the big dog, but with so few about (and starting at 4 times the cost) the Cosworth arguably left a bigger impact on the U.K. 90s tuning culture
Is up to Drive Tribe now to take the Grand Tour's torch. I hope the trio continues to do some road trips and take us along.
'5 door saloon' 😆😂 but get ya point anyway..

@@TheJpf79 What?? How is it possible to make a 5 door saloon? 😂
Very cool car, wished you drove it up to Clarkson to show it to him as part of the story for the vid.
That duel rear wing was going to be a triple wing! But the bean counters stopped it happening 😮
Thankfully
Dream car since I was a kid
the ford probe with pop-up headlights.....awesome
Front wheel drive sh*tbox.
Thank you for removing the bot comments!
Now that I can legally import them into the US, I really, really, really want to get one. It looks like prices on decent ones have gone crazy though.
That will go for millions
I think lotus Cortina was the pre ancestor of fast fords... With 180 hp and 6.5s to 60. All of that in 1960 ties.😮
Is up to Drive Tribe now to take the Grand Tour's torch. I hope the trio continues to do some road trips and take us along. Maybe they're "too old and fat" (Jemery's words, not mine) for crazy adventures, but not for some nice road trips, hanging out, talking and enjoying cars, and messing around like always.
I just hope whoever buys that Cossie, let’s Clarkson have one more blast in it
I brought it 🙂
Silk Cut and Jaguar; Clarkson and Cosseh; name a more iconic combination...
Extremely cool car with a huge nostalgia factor but 60k+? No, I don’t think so
You think that's expensive, I saw two RS500 Sierras from the same owner and he was asking for £265,000 - each.
It will do twice that imo
