The vin doesn’t match 2. The ownership history doesn’t match 3. When receiving the ownership change the number plate doesn’t match 4. You don’t receive the ownership change

Selling cloned cars is not the biggest scam and this method is many years old. The big problem today is people advertising cars, or car parts, on the likes of Facebook and then getting people to send money online, as payment for the part or deposit on holding the car.
Surely the insurance company and DVLA would be able to detect this if the car is sold on to an unsuspecting and otherwise law abiding citizen? If the same car reg is registered, taxed, MOT'd and insured by two different people at two different addresses shouldn't that raise a red flag?

I was actually a victim of car cloning. Someone using the cloned car was involved in an accident, which caused my premium to stay high for three years while the claim was unresolved because no one showed up in court.
The VN document you mention... to make it more generic so that the video applies to the US... just call it the registration document. Other than that, all the same. Also, cash on an older cars isn't as much of an issue (vs newer) because most older car buyers are looking for a "cash car" to get a better deal and avoid payments. So, it can be tricky with an older car, but definitely get a loan if it's a newer car, say over $10k USD. Good video.
I think the bit about ANPR is deliberate misinformation. There’s no way the ANPR cameras are high resolution enough to check if there is dealer information in small text on the plate. They are going to see the plate letters and numbers only so why wouldn’t it read it and pass.
I think they were perhaps trying to imply that plates without the mark *could* be non-standard and therefore less readable by ANPR, which is true. But yes, the system isn't looking for the manufacturer markings, it will read plates without it, foreign plates etc.

In France you don't even need documentation to get number plates!
love how he is just casually displaying to a wider audience on how to scam people, even if it is for educational purposes.
Anyone tempted to scam will already be aware of this - i doubt there many people watching this thinking “im going to go and do this”. However there’s a lot of people who would fall victim to this as they’re unaware and knowing things from this video will help a lot more people.
I was actually a victim of car cloning. Someone using the cloned car was involved in an accident, which caused my premium to stay high for three years while the claim was unresolved because no one showed up in court.
Main thing is the V5 not present or has wrong VIN number on it, don’t buy if no V5.
Great video, learned a lot, thanks Matt and team.
Good video.
You never fail to surprise us!
Suprise us ? How, by uploading a video 😂 it's UA-cam remember, where people share videos 🤦🏼♂️
@AMG63 Ignore it, she is a bot
carwow, do you realise this is a bot? just look at the profile.
two thumbs up to whoever edited this vid, great work
I think the bit about ANPR is deliberate misinformation. There’s no way the ANPR cameras are high resolution enough to check if there is dealer information in small text on the plate. They are going to see the plate letters and numbers only so why wouldn’t it read it and pass.
Exactly - I've got legit plates on mine without the markings as it looks cleaner.

I think they were perhaps trying to imply that plates without the mark *could* be non-standard and therefore less readable by ANPR, which is true. But yes, the system isn't looking for the manufacturer markings, it will read plates without it, foreign plates etc.
carwow should have someone from outside of their company to try to sell the car to the employee, because the employee basically trusts Mat from the get go.
