It also pains me to see the direction Malaysia is heading now 😢 truly knowing how great it can be. Most worrying is that the younger generations of Malay youth heavily influenced by race and religion

To start off excellent podcast Chuang. I genuinely appreciate you honest work. Thank you so much for all your good work. Chandran represents a non-western iteration of politics and economy. I sincerely appreciate his opinion its refreshing. I cognisant there is two sides to a coin. The both of you did an great job in providing a non western context to the geopolitical issues we are facing today. I am however quite offended with how he describes migrating Malaysians. As a Malaysian who has lived in the antipodes in the past decade, I would say the choice to live here is purely because finances and innately the rights that I enjoy. While I do agree with Chandran that I cannot run away from casual racism, I know all well that I’m protected from institutionalised racism. In my experience in both NZ and AUS, I’ve seen our Malaysian diaspora participate and hold important positions in these countries. In addition to politics, I see plenty professionals we are talking across all races not just the non-Malays thriving in these two countries. Im not saying there is no glass ceiling but the ceiling is definitely higher. I think national identity is defined differently in the antipodes and maybe the UK. Thats an appeal. To allow your children to think they can be the next Rishi Sunak or a Penny Wong is much better than have them told constantly by their fellow countrymen your can't. As such, I disagree with Chandran when he insinuate wanting to be white. Being involved in the education in the antipodes, I've seen young children from various different backgrounds who while are proud of their ethnic identity, identify Australian or Kiwi 1st. We Malaysian are still obsessed with our racial identity our national identity is a muddled mess. I mean we are only Malaysians abroad, in Malaysia our notion of identity still mirrors of that left to us by our colonial masters.

Chandran's insight to geopolitics is brilliant. But I wish to comment on his view of Malaysian race politics that he may fail to understand, which is : the psyche of the Malays minds being obsessed with the seiged mentality. Lets be frank, the fear of the dreaded lost of Malay political power is real to the Malays. If the race demographic is change in the distant future favouring the Chinese, which is plausible, that will be the lowest point of Malay political superiority. Hence, the Malay leaders' obsession with race politics. Malay "lordship" remains paramount importance to the Malays. Multi-racialism, far from being ideal, will be based on these terms.
In that is the failure to see the Malaysian project and Chinese as Malaysians distinct from non Malaysian Chinese. Getting rid of vernacular schools will be a step in the right direction to address this issue. And long as government takes steps to keep public schools secular. The problem too is, once and if the race problem is sorted, hypothetically, religion will be the next dividing line. 😅
Fair comment. From Non Malay (mainly Malaysians of Chinese and Indian heritage) perspective our numbers will continue to decline as a percentage. We cannot see how we can be a threat politically to the Malays when we are becoming less in numbers.
@vijaynair6161 Figures from Google shows Malay etnic group comprised of only 50.1%. Non Malays (Chinese, Indians and others) between 45% to 48%. It will not take much to tip the balance against the Malay numbers, give or take 30 to 40 yrs from now. Here's an excerp from Google : "The demographic composition in the country are as follows. 50.1% of the population are Malay, 22.6% are Chinese, 11.8% are indigenous Bumiputra groups other than the Malays, 6.7% are Indian, and other groups account for 0.7%."

Mr. Chong, The talk with Mr. Chandra is interesting. In Malaysia the Malays have potential to compete in education and economic. Sad that because they are support than there is no reason to compete when things are been spoon fed, therefore no need to complete. This is just to create weakness on the son of the soil by some irresponsible leaders. There has been a strategy to stay in power. Regarding honesty , good governance , strong anti -corruption. policy is nothing new as the Brilliant Lee Kuan Yew already explained in the 1980s . India - Lee visited India n told Indian leaders , to bring in intelligent people as ministers On how to solve the political ,racial , ethnic religious ,caste , bureacratic issues . Lee also said that India wasted 50 years of misopportunities . Wasting times on politics ,etc Indian did not pay attention . Deng Xiaoping visited Singapore in 1978, Deng saw the progress ,and asked Lee to teach Deng on industrial zone , foreign investnent , cleanliness , housing policy education systens ,civil service etc So Deng went back to China n started in 5 regions in China . Deng changed China governing systems ! Deng had foresight followed pragmatism- So Lee Kuan yew ,a teacher for Singapore , Lee a teacher for Deng n Deng a teacher for China.Rest is history . All Chinese base countries - China , Taiwan , Singapore progress within 30 years (1980-2010) , All became econmic powers . Why did Lee Kuan Yew visited China 32 times - you ask the Malay , Indian - leaders for the answer ?
LKY was brilliant. That’s irrefutable. It’s also irrefutable that he ran a population that was and is still very small that’s made up predominantly of Chinese, making for easier political navigation than a country where the racial breakdown were more dispersed. Furthermore, considering all that Deng had gone through and against the backdrop of the unforgiving history of China of the day, do you seriously believe Deng needed lessons from Lee? Popular pulp and especially Singaporeans love to and robotically perpetuate that myth just because Deng publicly urged his officials to study other economic systems, including Singapore’s .This self-congratulatory and oft-repeated fantasy about Deng learning from LKY is quite a tiresome trope that only embarrasses people who profer this drivel.
Main problem with Malaysia is the language. Big emphasis on Malay. Whereas English and Chinese are a distant 2nd and 3rd. There's nothing wrong having Malay as national language. National language of Spore is also Malay. But in Spore ,English is king. English is so important because all investors are comfortable with English. Majority of investors aren't so with Malay . attracting investment is of the utmost importance
The problem is that the nation is damaged. Main reason is dominance of racist thinking, policies and institutions. Another is state capture by elitists. The sum result is embedded corruption and mediocrity. Attitude of we can import industries, talent cannot last. Corruption must be rooted out like root canal. Racist policies and practices and racial talk must end and not be tolerated. The rule of law must prevail, even while the legal system is reformed. Malaysia does not need to copy Singapore or China. They have serious problems.
Most of us are forgetting who really was PMX long before he joined UMNO. He was in ABIM and his fight was against the ruling party. He wanted only the Malays to rule the country and should have Islamic policies in all government undertaking. To shut him down, TM pulled him into UMNO with a good offer so that his barking would stop. Now that he is the PM, he is now implementing his plans visioned when he was in ABIM. He is blinded by his aims that he does not see Malaysia not going anywhere. Looks like we are at the end of the road. It is time we create a third force before GE16. Get a leader who can think of all races and not one particular race. Malaysia is not surviving on the energy of one race but by all Malaysians who are contributing to the development of the nation.
I’m 100% with Nair on preference for Trump. And EXACTLY for that overarching, singular reason: he abhors war. Everything else that he does that might be unfavourable to China, I’m relatively less fussed about.
@abbafunz9986 race is always the denominator. You have religious distinction and racial distinction. Religion & race are used in peninsula while its the Bumi vs non Bumi in SS. This is Maoism.🤣
Amazing interview. His thoughts about Asians living abroad is absolutely true and real. I am a Malaysian who have been living in USA for 34 years and Asia provides a much better life than living in the so called developed countries. I am working on returning to Malaysia for good and contributing my knowledge and skills at a humanitarian org. Many of my Caucasian friends who have retired in Asian countries have no regrets.
I think the problem too many Malaysians still think that if only we had good people in the gov, things would change for the better. After 65 years of gov taking the lead in every aspect of Malaysian lives and with mountains of corruption to show for, I think maybe it is time to admit that gov can't solve our problems.
Our 3R issues are not exclusive to Malaysia. It is the politics in all democracies. Look no further than the US, UK and France. The same nonsense exists and in fact continues to thrive. Why? Because the system hasn't worked since even during the great philosophical period before Christ. Socrates said democracies created demagogues and suggested that only the educated be allowed to vote. This was a reason that got him in trouble and eventually sentenced to death. Has the western world learnt anything since? It's all to do with the system of governance. Likewise monarchies and autocracies have probably done worse since absolute power corrupts absolutely. However, communism with a certain balance of liberalism seems to have worked out well as in the case of China and Russia. They're not perfect and can never be but its probably the best option based on historical record. Communism is truly governance for the people (give - shared prosperity) unlike democracy that has its foundation built on dominance (take).
Your take on Communism has truly been the only its philosophies and not its practicality. In the name of a "shared prosperity" has made more corruption and poverty worldwide.
@@nadaiduit True, communism in the past went through tough, horrific times but for the better. However, the dominance nature of western hegemony's democratic narrative have probably similar nos. if not more through countless unjustified wars in the name of freedom, democracy and liberty.
In France the R of religion also corresponds to Islam. But unlike Malaysia, Islam is considered a foreign religion there. Apparently this doesn't make a big difference...
Politics can never be totally be based on rationality because humans have emotions. What is right for one may not be right for the other because everybody experience growing up in different environment. A Malay from the rural area will have different opinion on the same issue.
We did not come here by accident. It was pre-planned from the beginning, after the 1964 Parliamentary election. Slowly but surely we are here today, made by the majority of the race. Will they ever change ? Personally, I believe they won't because of their own ignorance : race n religion is the cause.

A profound discourse. Sadly, all of us know the predicament Malaysia is in but no firm action or political will to correct the wrongs the BN Govt had inflicted upon our nation for decades. DSAI perhaps but the latest Sg Bakap election is not encouraging. I think it is due to the lowering of election rights to those of 18years and above. Those people are still in their nutshell. We still have a long way to go. We must never give up.
Afghans & Syrians have a right to come to the west because they were bombed by the west & their countries destroyed. So since the west bombed them for nothing. It has been proving that the west lied to go to wars so they need to compensate in whatever ways they can. Malaysian Malays are not leaving, its the Chinese & Indians who leave the most.
@@rebeccajoseph8678 Chinese always leave their countries. Even in Singapore & Taiwan people are leaving by the hundreds of thousands despite their small populations. I can understand war torn countries where people are forced to leave by the millions. But Taiwan & Singapore are rich countries with zero ongoing wars. What's the justification? Right now there are record numbers of Mainland Chinese leaving China. Millions fled China to the US, Europe, Japan, Australia, etc. Even to Malaysia where it is supposedly so racist there is a record number of MM2H applicants. Chinese people have the worst record of migrations other than the west throughout history. So let's cut the nonsense.

In east malaysia, they use bumi vs non bumi, a subset of 3R.
Only the leader counts. Good Headmaster bad school, the school will improve. Good school bad headmaster the school will slide.

So much compliment Chandran Nair is giving China with regard to South East Asia Seas etc., looks like he is out of touch what China has done in Tibet and also doing in the Indian Borders, it is good USA presence is also shown in the SEA
Regarding honesty , good governance , strong anti -corruption. policy is nothing new as the Brilliant Lee Kuan Yew already explained in the 1980s .
India - Lee visited India n told Indian leaders , to bring in intelligent people as ministers
On how to solve the political ,racial , ethnic religious ,caste , bureacratic issues .
Lee also said that India wasted 50 years of misopportunities .
Wasting times on politics ,etc
Indian did not pay attention .
Deng Xiaoping visited Singapore in 1978, Deng saw the progress ,and asked Lee to teach Deng on industrial zone , foreign investnent , cleanliness , housing policy education systens ,civil service etc
So Deng went back to China n started in 5 regions in China .
You can fix an economy but not a stupid.

TalentCorp, are you listening to this?! Send Chandran Nair a letter now!
Why does our govt not approach tis person to be in d govt??
Malaysia's monarchy is a liability! Fear has created submissive malaysians. 3r bullying will stop when people stand up to it.-
Those who use the 3R R coward, after independent for 67 years still cant improve the country. Malaysia Taboleh
The spectre of communism claimed how many lives across the world?
Your take on Communism has truly been the only its philosophies and not its practicality. In the name of a "shared prosperity" has made more corruption and poverty worldwide.
It does look like you're viewing russia n China through rose tinted glasses.
Apparently this doesn't make a big difference...
y can't u say directly all is ours banggang politicians make Malaysia rise again
Politics can never be totally be based on rationality because humans have emotions. What is right for one may not be right for the other because everybody experience growing up in different environment. A Malay from the rural area will have different opinion on the same issue.
Never understood Che Guevara ... ? do ppl really comprehend what he stands for ? Sad ...

We did not come here by accident. It was pre-planned from the beginning, after the 1964 Parliamentary election. Slowly but surely we are here today, made by the majority of the race. Will they ever change ? Personally, I believe they won't because of their own ignorance : race n religion is the cause.
pray and hope for changes

Sadly, all of us know the predicament Malaysia is in but no firm action or political will to correct the wrongs the BN Govt had inflicted upon our nation for decades. DSAI perhaps but the latest Sg Bakap election is not encouraging. I think it is due to the lowering of election rights to those of 18years and above. Those people are still in their nutshell.

I don't think Malaysians are unique in leaving their troubles behind.
Just look at the Afghans, Syrians, Africans etc.
Did they stay behind to fight?
Afghans & Syrians have a right to come to the west because they were bombed by the west & their countries destroyed. So since the west bombed them for nothing. It has been proving that the west lied to go to wars so they need to compensate in whatever ways they can. Malaysian Malays are not leaving, its the Chinese & Indians who leave the most.
Great insights...we need more great minds like Mr Chandran to speak without fear or favour...

Thanks to Tony Pua among others risking their life to ensure scandal exposure, yet the general Malays don't seem to be bothered with, maybe because they prefer Jiban and loathe rocket at the same time.
