- I will never forget what my dear old grandmother used to say over and over when I was a very young lad..
“Son, all I ask is that you remember me this one thing…if any human being on this earth ever figures out a way to build a round neck resonator guitar that is actually properly intonated, PLEASE promise me you will buy one”
Thank you Paul Beard
Thank you Gruhn Guitars
I swear 3 different times in the last month I have been in the studio and this exact scenario has happened…
Producer: “man a resonator would be fucking killer on this track, did anybody bring one?”
Collective guitar players:
(Sheepishly) “Uhhh…no”
Well those days are over friends
And….do you guys remember a while back when Duke Levine was in town and we were working on a record together?
Well it’s finally out….and Jedd is on it too.
PS: Did you play this resonator on the Wade Bowen album? The album sounds pretty good.
it KILLS me that none of you people read the video descriptions that i so carefully and painstakingly write....scott honey, PLEASE read the video descriptions in the future...it would mean a lot to me....
your pal
Uncle Larry
@@501chorusechoDr.Evil reference? By the way, did you give them crap for the Bukovak spelling?
Ahhh yes, it is clear to me now...thanks for the redirect brother!
@@scottshand8559 no worries my dear man....thannks for taking part in all this homeskoolin madness
Now I hear the foot tap. Perfect
Deep in the pocket!
Tom I'm so stoked about the Duke Levine collaberation. Duke is one of my favorite guitarists.
Fellas…..have I missed something? What Duke Levine collaboration? Massive fan. 👍
Duke is so damned good he brings me to tears almost every time i put it on!
Damn dude. You could make a living doing this. :)
Killer playing ! Love your compositions
By the way, you are the master of tone. A studio guitarist has to not play 97% of what he knows. The only thing that is left is the quality of the tone, and you have become the master of studio tone. There are so many people copying you now I don't know how long that will last- it is like the 10,000 Brent Masons that are out there now. Surely there will be a Tom Bukavac Quantum computer program with Guthrie and Brian and Brent and every one else soon. Tim is raising the quality of the student so much that the bars are going to be full of studio quality guitarists playing for nothing soon. Where were you guys when I was twelve?
That picking hand work playing melody with full chords so cleanly is incredible. Beautifully done.
Particularly outstanding today. Thank you for brightening our day!
That resonator sounds killer, sounds like it has way more bass response than any I've played
Cool tone Tom. Love the chromatic motion too.
I could listen to that sound all day.
Duke Levine!? AWESOME!
I've been checking out a lot of Duke Levine with Bonnie and solo and man is he a tasty guitarist!
amazing player
He's been relevant for years...amazing how much talent is unrecognized by non musicians....
You tell us how important the vocals are, we’re listening!
You’ve taught us to hear what’s implied. The in - between
Keep on the sunny side
Killer tone, killer song. Love it Uncle Larry. Man, wish my ole grandma had passed on these words of wisdom.
Such a beautiful sound the resonators make. Wish I had one.
Oh man, sounds so good, congrats Uncle! Now you can be the resonator guy at all the sessions.
Now you’ll be happy.
Seriously, congratulations on the find, man, gotta assume you just got that by your vid description. 👍🏻
Uncle Larry making that dobro talk. Beard builds exceptional instruments.
Hell yeah boy!
Damn, what a beautiful instrument. Congrats
Id love to get a good look at the action set up of the res. Uncle Larry.
What great way to start the day!!! Thanks Tom!!! 😎👍🎶🥇
National, Beard, Gretsch, Recording King, etc. in Uncle Larry’s hands they all sound great !
That's a song right there !
What a beautiful instrument, beautifully wrangled!
What a beautiful toon.
Oh my gosh Uncle Larry, that’s sweeter than Jimmy and John Paul at Headley. Thank you!
Oh man… TOM! I been checking out resonators for a session. I’ve loved them all my life. Now after seeing you play one… imma give it some doh.. bro see you in August
That's some mighty fine pickin' and grinnin'!!
Acoustic album coming our way soon!
I'm gettin' a bit of "Gentle on my Mind" there Tommy. Sounds lovely.
Beautiful instrument..and you make it speak so well!
Those Beard resonators sound good!
Larry, you make it look so easy.. lol
Man..
Thx
:)
Wildwood flower 2.0? Dang Tom, that was beautiful man.
Thanks for the info on the Wade Bowen album. There is some good music on it. I live outside of Austin and the radio stations around here play Texas music. It will be fun to see which ones they play. I’ve already picked about three that are my favorites.
Beautiful guitar, very cool album cover
Wow!That one is a real beauty
MAN that is purty! Grabbing my trusty koostic right now to see if I can figger out how to play it. Thank you o Melodious One!
Looks and sounds fantastic!
In the early 90-ies, I was in some guitar shop in Frankfurt am Main Germany. I was passing by the acoustic guitars boot, and the door was a bit open. Boots were made of glass as well as the doors. You could hear dude playing loud. I thought he was plugged in. I've peeked in, and there was no cable and no amplifiers. Just similarly built resonator guitar. I couldn't believe how loud and clear it was. I did know the sound of Knoplers Dobro, but this was different and just huge. Way more everything and not as middle pronounced as smaller Dobro. I hate to admit that my interest back then was more some superstrat with the Floyd Rose. I needed a way to channel my youth anger 😂
Anyhow, that guitar impressed me a lot.
In the meantime, I have played original vintage Dobro from the same year as the Knopflers, and it's an epic instrument. Only not shiny. It had patina. Felt a bit like sand paper. If it was mine, I would go crazy because I couldn't decide to polish it or leave it be. The slide sounds awesome on it. Friend played finger style flamenco on it, and it sounded awesome. I would have never guessed that. It's a unique sounding instrument.
That's a beautiful Beard! I've got 2 of them... squarenecks!
Yes, the George Tut, and Rob band. I think Neal Young bought Hank Williams' Martin from Tut.
I have never heard anyone play as good as you my friend!
thank you my dear man
That them there is a purdy geetar! Sounds nice in yer paws to boot!
That was, Oh so fabulous - Salvis
thank you sal dolce
Ever played any of the Mule resonators? They have a haunting reverb-y goodness that's hard to explain
Beautiful Tom! I want one!
Hey Tom is that house with a pool still underway 🤞-? sometimes wonderful things happen even to cynics from Cleveland... could be an epic summer.
The video description doesn't say where we can find this Duke Levine album. I love his solo albums and all the MCC stuff he played on.
Very pretty, the playing and the guitar. Your knowledge of the tones available on the fretboard is astounding. And I’m sure that’s just a little something you whipped up 10 mins ago
5 to be honest
@@501chorusecho Haaa! You ole dog, you.
Sweet looking Guitar. A bit surprised that you didn't pull out the slide again...
This piece gave me perma-grin 😁
Hey there Question. When you are on a session, do you, or have you, ever said to a producer, I think this might sound better? Or, is it better to be quiet? Listened to Wade album. Killer. Thanks for the cool music recommendations along with the superb playing and teachings.
Wow!! I was just gonna ask you the other day if you owned a Weissenborn, been geekin out on these sounds pretty heavily as of lately. Sounds great!
Sweet!
Sounds like a Chet Atkins song, only faster. Love it.
beauty
I’m wondering which track(s) Duke played on. I listened through and tried to guess who was playing what.
Hey schoolers. I’ve been trying to find the episode in which Tom plays Honest man by Lowell George. Does anybody remember which one is it?
i don't know that tune man....you must be mixing me up with someone else
@@501chorusecho really? Oh man, then I guess I didn’t get the name of the song. Thank you 😅
Watching this dude playing anything just makes me want to quit. Uncle Larry is just too goddamn good.
wow, love it... is that song in standard tuning (EADGBE) ?
Willie Nelson's 90th B'Day show was on CBS the other night, plenty of "Look! It's Uncle Larry" moments while watching it. I remember watching as Kris Kristofferson walked past you and out onto the stage, way cool for me. Did you get a chance to interact with him? He has been a song-writer hero of mine for many years. That was a great show too, did Don Was do that one?
yeah man don was the bandleader and he played bass...i didn't talk to kris, i think he has dementia or something, he seemed very frail, roseanne was carrying him around everywhere and he was holding on to her like a child
poor fella
nice wood good playin
National makes some kind of compensated bridge for their biscuit/cone combo but I've never heard one in action. What engineering marvel has solved your intonation issues?
i almost grabbed a couple of spoons.........
Your granny was a very wise woman
Ah, my buddy Jim Bass, he's a-working pumping gas
And he makes two-fifty for an hour
He's got rhythm in his hands as he's tapping on the cans
Sings rock and roll in the shower
Dude I can see by the last couple videos just started getting into more slide in dobro that is awesome I would love it if you to try to figure out the Four Walls of Raiford buy Lynyrd Skynyrd well covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd should I say.. you are my far one of my top three favorite guitar players
thank you dude...
Should never have put the football commentary over that Duke Levine intro.
I was just wondering today if you and Duke are making progress on a duo album together. I sure hope so.
we never got started on it bro...maybe one day
Hey Tom, for - In Stereo, were y’all recording live for some, most or all the tracks? It sure has great vibe and is really fresh. Either way, good goin Dude, cheers 🍻
yeah man the whole record was basically a live recording
@@501chorusecho That’s bitchin’ also the tones are just popping… there are moments where I’m hearing a P90 perhaps from your SG? Just a great record y’all made, thank u!
👏👏👏🎸🔥
Speaking of Ohio resonator players … Have you worked with Jerry Douglas before?
yes he is awesome.....super funny cat too
Gentle on my mind?
That's what I heard.
Isn't the dobro one of those phases guitar players go through. I'm going to buy me a dobro and move next to a swamp 😂
I think that’s just modern folk singers who can’t really play them
@@DominicHudson79 I have a friend that's been in bands pretty good bands for 40 years. Plays a lot of slide he does a solo act also with an acoustic. He's a standard tuning guy. I asked him why don't you have a dobro he says he doesn't hear much difference in sound from a regular acoustic. But he's just one of those Stone Cold players he's not really a thinker.
Almost Beatle ish kinda......
❤❤❤
Sweet!!!
Did they misspell Uncle Larry?
Oh man that sounds good! I've wanted a resonator for a few years and have yet to buy one. I have a few swampy dirgy sounding ideas that I think a resonator would bring to life.
❤skool
A damn fine instrument
you did a beautiful job building it sir
😉
This did my heart good. It's a beautiful thing ya got there kind sir.
What model Beard resonator is that?
Got up this beautiful Mississippi morning. Went out on the screened porch to enjoy my Sunday morning coffee. Thought to myself, some Uncle Larry would be righteous about now. Sure enough, brand new vid with Larry playing the dobro. Perfect! Thanks Tom for making vids.
thank you bro i appreciate that
Any update regarding the Titanium, Furious Slides? Thanks sir.
Killer killer killer. Ohio boy playing the HELL out of some country music 🙌🏽🔥
Congratulations on that album broskie. Cool stuff and BEAUTIFUL guitar
thank you dood
Funny the Wade Bowen detail comes out. We had a short 2 hour road trip this weekend, and I had that new Wade Bowen album on repeat. He’s one of my favorite artists. I met him a few years ago when he was playing at Flannagan’s in Columbus, Ohio with our friend, Eldon Huff. He was so nice, and I got a nice photo with him. Anyway, I told my wife as we were listening that this is my favorite album of his. The songs are all compelling, and the production is awesome. So, I am not surprised at all to hear that you were involved! Nothing but class from Uncle Larry! 👍
wade is one of the sweetest guys on earth....i've been playing on his records for over 20 years
Gitty up
Wonderful keep this for the solo acoustic album
Haven’t seen you play that particular resonator guitar in the past! Sounds great! Also wonderful take on Me and Bobby McGee! Very tasty indeed! Thanks for making my Saturday Tom!
haha thanks man...but thats not bobby McGee
Hey bud, start reading the descriptions he wrights for each video, most of the time they tell a lot more then what's in the video and includes the same Uncle Larry human...lol This one is a perfect example and explains that he just acquired it. Also, I hope this doesn't come across as being prickish(never know how people takes things on the internet), as I want the Homeskoolin' community be friends. Just passing along a helpful tip.. Cheers!
@@deerhunter972 No offense taken at all! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! If I got it wrong I apologize and very much appreciate you bringing it to my attention. Definitely need to remember to read the descriptions. Lots of important and interesting information in there. Definitely my bad.
@@501chorusechomy apologies! Just thought I recognized the melody in your first few bars, where you went with it though was a completely different planet! Absolutely beautiful and uniquely yours! Thanks for sharing it!
Man, that is one beautiful & bad ass sounding resonator guitar!!! After watching & listening, I visited the Beard Guitars website and learned everything about this amazing company and the family that founded & operate it to this day. They have such a cool story and history!!! Great sounding tune Tom!!! .........Damn, I want one of these, and I never played a resonator before. Always loved them though.
This might be my favorite Homeskoolin’ playing performance.
I have a square neck hanging on my wall. I listen to Jerry Douglas, and I leave the square neck right where it is, hanging on the wall. Game over.
Yeee hah! The Melbay guitar method with additions, you too can play guitar!
Definitely the most well rounded sounding resonator I've heard and living in Hawaii, I've heard quite a few over the past 34 years.
Round neck???
You seem pretty comfortable playing it.👌
Long distance information give me Memphis Tennessee, help me find the party trying to get in touch with Elvis. lol
Sunday Funday. Talk about springing out of bed and dancing a jig. That was a happy little ditty to start my day. Cheers
I love the 'BONUS' content! On top of all the FREE content it's just incredible to get that sweet BONUS!🤑
