      Mate I am 52, I've got a university degree in engineering design, did that for a while, things got sideways with my career, ended up in the UK looking for a decent job, ended up driving forklifts in a factory in Birmingham. Always loved driving, either travelling or just to chill out, been playing ATS and ETS and I thought, why the f**k not become a lorry driver and get some more cash while I do something I love. So I'm going for my tests this July and hopefully will progress to HGV sooner than later. And yes i also enjoy this lad's videos, he's a cool geezer, can transmit information awesomely and has a positive outlook alltogether. Wishing you good luck in your journey, hope to see you on the road some day.

      You'll be fine as if you weren't focused, you wouldn't care so much. The first few months will be interesting but, be prepared for some sacrifices to get experience and then, the right type of work for you will find you. REMEMBER, longer term, don't sacrifice family life. They'll be there when wheels ain't turning for you. You, bring back the bacon, as us Jews say, when the works good. But, be home rather than become a stranger in your own home!

      Keep your cool.
      I failed my first test because I'd crossed the line at a right hand traffic light turn, and didn't proceed after lights went red and subsequently blocked a pedestrian crossing with the trailer. Should have moved and gone, but saw people from my right setting off so I stopped!
      Second test passed with flying colours. 3minors, all gained in the last 300yds before re-entering the test station....
      Good luck mate 👍

    Became HGV driver as it was my childhood dream. I knew I have to try it. If it's not for me I can leave any day. I still like it and enjoy it every day even when hours are long and start times are mess. And I take pride in what I'm doing. I used to operate FLT loading/unloading curtain siders and often talked to lorry drivers. 9/10 told me it's far away from regular job like warehouse/office/store but they love it and never looked back.

    "Beats working for a living" is a phrase I've said at times when people ask me about the job. To be fair initially it can be a steep learning curve but once you settle into it and think back to the crappy jobs of the past (and I've had some bloody awful ones) you ask yourself "Why didn't I do this 20 years ago"? I always say if you're genuinely happy at work then it's not work, you're getting paid for doing what you love. Yeah sometimes you have to do things like pull curtains back or open the back doors but hey I can live with that 🤣

      Yeah when you realise you are angry because someone did what you should it opens your eyes 👀
      I never look back on the opportunities the industry has opened up for me.

    I feel your frustration pal I work in a tyre fitting place been doing it one year now after being sacked from previous job and tyre fitting is something I had to fall back quickly cuz of previous experience. Gotta say don’t miss the dirt and lying down floors etc but enjoy the odd mobile jobs here and there I get to do which is why I decided to do Class1 license which I have now. Applied for jobs this weekend for class 1/2 soo 🤞🤞🤞

    Ive been on the Class 2's (tippers, concrete mixers, multi drop etc) for 2 years now. I actually passed my Class 1 over a year ago and I've never used it (in a pretty stable Class 2 job so never bothered) and I'm thinking of making the jump to some "cleaner work" shall we say. Problem is I've left it so long I'm scared sh*tless at this point to get myself in an artic lol

    I went accountancy degree for a yesr and a half, halfords and then two bikes shops which i lasted 10 years in. Deaking wjth the public is bad eboigh at the best of times and wben you add in mechanical things that require maintenance it's another kevel.
    Class 2 got me into handballing shops but got me experience for a year. Monday to Friday 50+ hours about £35-40k. £14ph £50 weekly bonus.
    Class 1 i recently started doing milk delivery. It feels so easy just delivering the product without having to spend hours handballing into shops. Early starts/weird nightshift. £15.05 basic, £17 during antisocial hours and £22-25 on a sunday. 4 x 12 hours with a bit extra gives me £46k

    I've put off retirement for nearly 2 years nearly 68. Put feelers out with my employer about part time work. Starting Monday 2 nights a week trunking/hub work. Yipee😂 no more building sites and especially London building sites. I can't say I'll miss it after 26 years class one, I've had enough in particular London. The whole job has changed and not for the best.

      @Tribellion 7 місяців тому +1

      Basil I didn’t want to comment as people are usually quick to attack. I’ve been trucking now only 8 months and I hate it.
      It’s decent money but the stress it’s put me under is making me really regret the decision.
      If you’re a family man or have a Partner it will likely add pressure to your relationship. Nights out or working late - get home and eat sleep repeat.
      I don’t think it’s talked about enough the pressures and stress. I suppose some people handle stress better than others but it hit me hard and I wasn’t expecting it.

    12month into the class 1 job and believe me, plenty of other dickheads on the road to worry about and look out for, half the time you can't see them!
    You get very good at predicting what other people are going to do by their behaviour! As long as you're heads on a swivel!

    I just got my class 2 license i have module 4 this week. I'm thinking of doing class 1. As I have a personal connection with a haulage company that collects milk with tankers. I know the owner and some of the drivers and they're encouraging me to go for it and said they would train me up if I got class 1.
    But I've never done any driving job before. In your opinion do you think I should try get some 7.5 and class 2 experience first?
    The milk collection is going to be the same routes but it's all in tight country roads and farm yards.
    It's great employment opportunity but I just fear it will be abit too overwhelming to go straight into that.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  7 місяців тому

      I always advise people to slowly work there way up the ladder, not only does it give you experience you will appreciate the class 1 work alot more when you get there.

    I got my hgv license in 2012 and then didnt use it until 2017 and i came off the road 2 years ago to work in a quarry.
    Any skill/trade/licence is good to have just incase.
    I drive machines now so its just as boring as driving a lorry lol
    Just like any job there are pros and cons but hgv drivers seem to get the raw end of the deal when it comes to how people treat them and facilities.....during covid i frove from somerst to london and i suffer with dodgy guts and in the 100+ mile journey i found 1 service with a toilet that wasnt "out of order"
    I even made a comment to one of the staff that there will be alot of rich plumbers after covid with all these boken toilets.

  • @Baloovanz
    @Baloovanz 7 місяців тому +1

    Quite the opposite for me. I was a class 2 driver for about 8 years deciding i wanted a change in career went to uni became a social worker and then went into management. 4 months ago i decided i miss HGV drivin so went and got my class 1 and ADR with tanks started with DHL and very quickly remembered how people speak to you like absolute sh1t as a driver and the long a$$ hours. I lasted 2 weeks and decided no. Went and got a job as a manager for an Autism Charity but now i don’t like that either. I am Autistic myself though and can’t seem to find my niche. I enjoy building camper vans but not sure whether to make it a career/business 🤷🏻‍♂️ the joys of an overactive brain lol
