The Oregon state course is typically slow (coming from a former Oregon XC runner), and seeing as it had rained heavily in the days leading up to the meet, the course was a bit soupy in spots. Tyrone still managed to run a course record in those conditions, which was absolutely INSANE to watch. It was the greatest XC race I think I've witnessed, it was incredible to be there for.
I wish people stopped caring about times in cross country. Every course is different making times incomparable. I just wish people would stop caring about times and focus on their dominance in cross country. Now track on the other hand, that's where times become the thing that matters most.

I’m just waiting to see Hunter Jones, the king of Michigan. I’m a friend of his and I’ve been watching him run since middle school. He’s a beast and I’m super proud of him.
Look at the map. The Pacific coast here goes E-W., so PCH and the 101 are going E-W until at least Point Dume and mostly to Port Hueneme. Even a lot of E-W mostly to Ventura. Thus, Newbury Park is due west of LA, at least the San Fernando Valley. It is only about 10 miles north of downtown LA and 35 miles West.
Hunter jones just set the second-fastest time ever on the course faster than Riley Hough's time on the same course last year. With Riley getting a 14:10 at running lane reckon hunter will get a similar time with competition and on an easy course like Runninglane. Can't wait to see what he does.
Newbury Park is untouchable this year as a team. Barring injuries, they will go undefeated in every event, local or national. Their talent and depth is simply unbeatable. Individual competition is different. There is a lot of talent out there. Several top competitors don’t have fast teammates to push them, so they’ve got to push themselves. The question is, if/when faced with fast competition, will that overwhelm them or inspire them to greatness? Time will tell.
I don’t even know how you asked that last question. In California historically the team to beat has been Great Oak. The 2015-2016 season was legendary and that 2015-2016 season was loaded across the board. But man oh man Newbury Park makes those kids look like JV alternates. No hate to Great Oak I’ll always respect the squad out in Temecula but Newbury Park is just completely outclassing the team that completely outclassed everyone else.
