It does look like a good budget option if you're just starting out, and need an amp to run a pair of normal subs. Really hard to beat 1200 certified watts for $100 - Quite the bargain price for some decent bump. I remember when I bought my first car amp back in 2008, it was made by a brand called Magnat, and it probably did around 700 watts in 1 ohm. So damn old school Big-D. I remember bumping all three of them kinds of bass.. on cassette tape. If I remember right I had two 12” pyles at the time. Oh the hiss.
The business with the mixed caps might not be a problem... The green ones are most likely low ESR, and I have seen this a few times with class D amps where the caps before the inductor part of the pi filter have more high frequency switching noise so require low ESR (more expensive) devices, but the ones after are just cheap general purpose caps as they aren't as stressed in that part of the circuit.
When your cloning a 20 year old design using the cheapest parts you can get, do no engineering or testing and have little to no employees to pay the price can get really low.
Dang. A budget amp that does something resembling its rated power! Wonders never cease. Nobody who can't handle a soldering iron should touch this, though. If they were that haphazard with the capacitors, I'd bet good money they didn't match the MOSFETs. Replacement of blown FETs will probably be needed, especially if it's pushing its rated power most of the time into a super Lo-Z load (< 2 ohms). Might be fine if you're usually below the red line, or driving 4 ohms. Good find for a hardware hacker, however. 👍

Exactly what dude said below, think about how advanced car audio would be today if we could've been able to buy a 1500 watt amp back in the day for $150. I had two Image Dynamic 1500 watt amps and two ID 15" woofers in my 1989 Chevy Beretta GT and the kids at my school used to tell me that they could hear me coming from a mile away. I actually got suspended for 10 days when I pulled up out front of my high school and shattered my rear windshield with them. I paid almost $2500 for both amps back then.
The actual mosfets and IC's used in today's amps didn't exist back then. What was available cost a small fortune. So amps were very expensive to build back then.
Big D, it would be really nice if you could get your hands on a Magnat The Rock 600 or 1000 amp so you could review it. Do you think it's possible? Keep up the great work!
Big D, I have a video idea. You’ve done so many videos, it would be amazing to do a “Best of Efficiency” 0-999 watts, 1000-1999, etc etc. some of us appreciate a high efficiency amp, at various ohm loads. I would love to know what the most efficient amps you’ve tested are. Thanks OG 🤝🤝🤝
I've never heard of this amp it's not too bad for the price but I have to know more about it before I would buy it but it won't cost to much if it does go boom 💣💥lol I love your video contait keep up the great work big D and oh yeah have you ever done a test on planet audio before I've been seeing them around and really don't know nothing about them so I hope to catch you doing a video on it 😂😂😊
Wish you said bump it and tried .67 and .5 ohm. Price definitely cheap but for a few bucks more you can get a brand that will be around for a while and a warranty. Now it's $87 bucks.
Based on the results it performs more like a crappier rp1200.1 .8ohm results tho...... not bad for 100 bucks tho how longs it gonna last??? a week a year... 5 years... an hour:??
I dont know if youve done any yet but i remember having a old california msc400 amp that i unknowingly ran at 1.3 ohms for over a year..lol id love to see the dyno on one of them if you can find one.. i remember i got mines at a flea market for like $40 back in 98-99.. wish i never sold it.. it was a little warrior.. and i now know i abused it the whole time i had it, never had a issue and sold it with my car..
Love your videos Big D. And the clips from older sitcoms I certainly remember and enjoyed. Especially Sanford and Son. LOL. Old Skool is the Only Skool! :) Because I'm not going Woke! and then Broke! "Ya Big Dummy" lol. (whoever came up with this "Woke" stuff sure didn't think it through!) duh!
There is probably a Chinese profile factory where the heat sinks come from and I'd imagine they are somewhat universal designs and can be chosen from a catalog for your product. At least on the "lesser" brands, meaning the ones that check for the available stuff in China, make deals and then get these types of products shipped. The big brands spend more money on their unique designs, sometimes potentially making even less efficient heat sinks than the traditional style offers, just to stand out. And when you see a knock-off, it's usually quite easy to spot the differences.
I went with a Pioneer gm-e360x4 for JL Audio for my doors and tweets. Says rating at 1000W but doubt I’m getting even close to that, but she does bang for $139! (My PPI Art Series A300 handles the 2 Kicker Comp 10”s @2 ohms)
those are rail caps, replacing them doesn't affect sound quality. for class d amps like this the components don't have a huge affect on sound quality, more focused on layout design and the output filter.
Strapping means one amps positive and the other amps negative goes to the sub. The amps internal clocks need to be synced. So strapping requires a master slave switch and a cable that synchronizes their clocks. This amp can't be strapped.
You get what you pay for. I had a cheap planet audio that did hit, but it ended up sending DC to my sub causing it to blow. So yeah take Big D's Advice and buy a D4S amp for 150.00 bucks and get a decent warranty.
possible longevity issues from those cheap caps and that power off noise are the only serious downsides i see. pity, it seems like it'd be a nifty baller budget option otherwise.

Hey big D can u do a video on the old school mini trucks that were called audio chamber
Would love to see you upgrade that quad box with the new solo x's
QuadBox vs SoloX you say? Let me work on that 😏
Looks like a Skar Rp series amp. Must be from the same build house.
Looks completely different. Definitely not the same build house.
No you didn't 😂😂
The actual mosfets and IC's used in today's amps didn't exist back then. What was available cost a small fortune. So amps were very expensive to build back then.
I got one new on eBay for $66 no turn on pop powering a 6.5 ctsounds tropo and it bangs budget amp on the fly
Big D, it would be really nice if you could get your hands on a Magnat The Rock 600 or 1000 amp so you could review it.
Do you think it's possible?
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the suggestion
Can you do a dyno on Nemesis Audio 2k I can't find a dyno video no where!
Thanks for the suggestion
Yeah do this. We could watch hour long videos of this.
I always wonder if the amp dyno is going to let the smoke out . Big D should just make a vid on amps that blew up
Great idea!
I've never heard of this amp it's not too bad for the price but I have to know more about it before I would buy it but it won't cost to much if it does go boom 💣💥lol I love your video contait keep up the great work big D and oh yeah have you ever done a test on planet audio before I've been seeing them around and really don't know nothing about them so I hope to catch you doing a video on it 😂😂😊
Thanks for watching and commenting!
No problem I always watch your videos 🎥keep up the great work 👏🔥💯👍
I got the amp it hits hard
Its three time better planet auto...I got 3 of them andeman amplifier....
@@kayden774 what subs are you running
Wish you said bump it and tried .67 and .5 ohm. Price definitely cheap but for a few bucks more you can get a brand that will be around for a while and a warranty. Now it's $87 bucks.
This is the way I look at it, In the late 90s I bought a 250 R for $650 , This things a budget Jim
Is this a bot?
@@jackravan3242 Is what a bot?
NICE!!! What's up BigD!?!?
Pretty close to the soundstream TXP1.3500D in price and output. Love to see a comparison video.
@WillistonAudioLabs 🤣🤣🤣
I was looking I was about ready by the same amp but I got something different!
PNASE! that made me chuckle. 😂 Great vid as always, thank you! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Based on the results it performs more like a crappier rp1200.1 .8ohm results tho...... not bad for 100 bucks tho how longs it gonna last??? a week a year... 5 years... an hour:??
We need a Big D class D amplifier. Then Big D could do a review on it 😂
That PNASE control along with the BDIDGE are 🤣🤣🤣
Did I read PNASE instead of PHASE. Not sure what the N is good for?
I dont know if youve done any yet but i remember having a old california msc400 amp that i unknowingly ran at 1.3 ohms for over a year..lol id love to see the dyno on one of them if you can find one.. i remember i got mines at a flea market for like $40 back in 98-99.. wish i never sold it.. it was a little warrior.. and i now know i abused it the whole time i had it, never had a issue and sold it with my car..
@Rock Island Railfan yeah.. i didnt realize how good i had it with that one..
👌😬👍
Once you add in what the actual speakers impedance was, you probably weren't abusing it.
I'm hoping you do a Dyno on the Marts 13.5k. people left Taramps and started this company. They're on sale at Big Jeff audio.
Marts = Taramps
Just bought 4 amps with the warranty for $393. Not bad. Let's see how they live in the basshead environment.
😳
I bought 6 of them. Going to strap them to 3 subs.
I have one running a pair of Kilner Audio HR10D4 10" subs. I'm really impressed. Definitely worth the money.
You should do an amp dyno on a hifonics be35 4000.1, i think that amp will do wayy more than listed spec power
Thanks for the suggestion
A Copy skar audio heat sink :D LOL Hmm well we all agree it is at its rated RMS wow a nice pick sir thank you for this awesome review/testing
@@HulluJanne Good point there nice
Pnase 🤣🤣🤣 glad u did a review of it was just talking to hifi vega a few weeks ago about it 🔊
Still eant to see u run the Class D Roadstar RDA 1011 4000w mono amplifier
I went with a Pioneer gm-e360x4 for JL Audio for my doors and tweets. Says rating at 1000W but doubt I’m getting even close to that, but she does bang for $139! (My PPI Art Series A300 handles the 2 Kicker Comp 10”s @2 ohms)
It's not a 1000 watts amp it's 70x4 at 4ohm and 90x4 at 2ohm
With box rise would it be safe to run this amp at 1ohm?
Big D - the clips got me dyin and not even 3 mins in
How can I get any info on a couple of early 2000 amp that I found from a friend viper d1200.1 and a diamond amp really can’t find any info
Derek stetsom digital Bass dyno test!
Thanks for the suggestion
So, Dereck.
Say you strip the guts, and replace those dubious caps with descent caps like nichicon. Would that improve the sound quality? 🤔
those are rail caps, replacing them doesn't affect sound quality. for class d amps like this the components don't have a huge affect on sound quality, more focused on layout design and the output filter.
@@bensonak47 ok, thanks. I was just curious.
these style class D amps were never designed for sound quality!
@@NightshiftCustom point taken.. 🤷🏻♂️
Unfortunately not
Is there a way to bridge strap two amps without having the master and slave knob as well as the RCA input?
Strapping means one amps positive and the other amps negative goes to the sub. The amps internal clocks need to be synced. So strapping requires a master slave switch and a cable that synchronizes their clocks. This amp can't be strapped.
It's cool Big D but what can u really push with this amp ? 🤔🤔 Somebody please tell me
Alot of subs
Those settings side graphics and knobs looks alot like the C.A.B. 1600.1D everything but the bridge but the in and out are the same, and so on soforth
👌😬👍
Big D you think this thing is worth 85 dollars? Someone has a new one and Offered it to me for 85 bucks
They sell for $87 free shipping, see my link in the pinned comment or video description
@@wal yeah but was it worth it. Did it sound good?
You should test some of the slapz audio amps. 3k for 185 5k for 255. Im running the 5k and very impressed
Same as the Bully 3k and 5k’s I’ve already tested.
I’m surprised you missed they misspelled phase on the amp
I’m getting old, where’s my Walker?
You get what you pay for. I had a cheap planet audio that did hit, but it ended up sending DC to my sub causing it to blow. So yeah take Big D's Advice and buy a D4S amp for 150.00 bucks and get a decent warranty.
one of the many reasons I stick with the Rockford Fosgate power series amplifiers
they are very well made and last forever but they are not cheap
Fact that it can somewhat bump the quad box I'd wait it's a win
possible longevity issues from those cheap caps and that power off noise are the only serious downsides i see. pity, it seems like it'd be a nifty baller budget option otherwise.
Why didn't you bring up the misspelling of the pnase control???
I missed it! Is to be human
Williston audio labs, ain't that the truth!
Is this amp with getting?? Just wanna run a couple twelves in my SUV
I saw Dyno, bought 2 of em. What's the power gauge and fuse size on these bad boys?
Im running a 120 on them. What The manual calls for
