I love these! Decades ago, we had a coal fire in our living room, and my childhood cat, Mitten, would sit in front of it when it was burning. Both Mitten and the coal fire are long gone, as is the gas fire that replaced the coal one. but we still have central heating and radiators all through the house. Lilly, the cat I have now, has two favourite places to sit, one being the front room window sill with the radiator just beneath. I'd say this is her second most favourite place to sit, because, though she can get warm she cannot lay down and stretch out. This can only be accomplished on my bed. which is pushed up against the radiator in my room for several reasons. All too often when I go into my room, it is to find Lilly stretched out on my bed with her back pressed up against the hot radiator...

I have multiple cats. One chilly afternoon I'm sitting at my computer as the sun continued to travel to the west side of my house. As the rays of the sun came into the room, I could see that the air was filled with fur. Not just a strand here or there, it looked like a blizzard. I had a small heater going for my feet and 3 of my lovelies had placed themselves, shoulder to shoulder, in a half circle directly in front of the heater. It was blowing fur like crazy. Looked like 3 huskies being deshedded. Yup, they love warm
All cats like warmth, they don't like to be cold. Always keep your baby's warm

I'm with the radiator cats ! I grew up in a large family mainly in the 70's, and when we wanted to watch TV at night the living room was crowded, with sofa and chairs all filled. I grabbed a spot on the floor next to the radiator where I could prop up my head on the stereo. It was just a tad uncomfortable, but during the winters I was the warmest person in the room. I LOVE being warm ! That was MY spot until I left home. Cats are SMART !
Caught myself smiling the whole time! Then I realized my feet were under a heating pad and my cat beneath the covers spooned against me. A perfect rare moment of rest and peace.

I sometimes find my Precious Pixie sitting in front of the heat vent in the kitchen. When I see that I'll go bump the heat up and she is happy. 😸

Awesome! Cats are amazing. Cats like between 77-86°F (25-30°C) temperatures. They can do cooler and hotter, but that is their comfort zone. They would prefer warmer to cooler as well. Just be careful because cats will go towards an open flame, fireplaces to candles, if they feel heat and can start their fur on fire wthout knowing it right away. Treat their safety just like a child.

Late family cat had probably 2 favourite places when it came to snoozing in the warmth. One was by the front door ( right against it) which used to get the sun, but it was out of the wind. But he got rather unhappy if anyone wanted to actually come in or out of the house . Secondly was the bonnet ( hood) of a car, in particular more or less above the engine, because of the warmth of the engine…
apparently a lot of people need to set up sunny window spots and other 'warm' places, like a high shelf. HEAT RISES people, its cold down there on the floor. Make your house more cat friendly, give them routes up to the warmth and sun!!

My first cat, suki, she was a sweetie. She was a siamese cat.who literally picked me.
In one of our houses we had a loveseat that had been over a heat vent. This loveseat has bottle m drapey things so underneath was a personal warm cozy zone for her.
Our Second Siamese cat was a male Mom named Suki, which we got while we lived in Germany. He came back to the states with us when Pappy was reassigned to Ft Belvoir.

My Mom's rescue cat Biddy would demand to join me in the bathroom to cuddle the cast iron radiator while I used up all the hot water steaming the place up. Seemed to provide her some relief for the congestion she suffered due to a viral infection.
She would also lie against the old spark screen for what was now a gas fireplace. Her long hair would stick through the screen less than a foot from the flames.
She knew cold.
In our second house, you could trace the hot water pipes under the floor by the line of cats.
My two have their sun spots to lay in or they crowd into their cat bed but also love my warm blanketed lap.

Have a small heating pad. Put it on the couch on low with a cat bed on top. Almost 24/7 there is at least one cat on it, often two.

Am I the only one that thinks 1:13 a gigantic fire hazard? That cloth contraption, is directly on the radiator.
I have some cats that like to get in the bathtub, which is close to the heater vent, this winter, they also figured out if the pushed the bathroom door part way closed, the vent would blow directly on them as well. I have some others that like to lay on the KB, of course. If you only have one cat, they are jut not trying to find you!

I would think a bare radiator would be too hot for a cat to lay on ?
How come they don’t get burned by directly touching the radiator? If the radiator is producing heat, it’s gotta be very hot to the touch.
