Straight peat moss works great. At one point I had 55 blueberry bushes in pots with just peat moss. I did fertilize them with a fertilizer for blueberries.

Hello, For acidity I just put an inch diameter of Alum in the soil below the drip. I do this once a month. It works like a charm. I use it in flowering plants like rose and citrus who need acidic soil. It's a very cheap alternative. Alum in my country is like 10-12 cents a kg :D

Thank you so much Laura! I was searching everywhere for this video on how to apply the soil acidifier to berries. I grow sunshine blue blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries down here in Central Florida and just got the soil acidifier from home depot. I can't wait to see how it works. My plants are a few years old and starting to get big, so I figured it was time to freshen the soil and add some rich nutrients in with it. Thanks again! It's always so great to see you! 🌱🐞

Unless they are dwarf varieties, two in one pot is crowded. The varieties you planted get to be 6' wide and tall. You did say the growth was less in a pot. Blueberries can live 50 years. The patriot blueberry gets huge berries! They're northern highbush. I know this because I was researching blueberries for where I live, which requires southern highbush. I really enjoy your videos, but you're costing me a small fortune! I'm going to try that jug sowing that you had a video about!

This is very timely as I have blueberries in 2 gallon pots from last year & was looking to transplant to larger containers. Mine bloom early & then a month later. A 22 in is probably not quite big enough for both together at this point, but will make sure to keep them close to each other. They are leafing out & getting buds now. Western WA weather is definitely different than yours so mine love as much sun as possible.

Congrats on 501k Subs Don't forget if your Blue Berries flower while still indoors dont forget to let the Bumble Bees in to pollinate them or the blossoms will just drop off and no fruits will form. The natural places to find Blue Berries is in Pine Forests so you are 100% correct about the sun requirements.

I'm having to yank my Duke Blueberry out and start a new mix with Sphagnum Peat moss and Pine Bark Mini Nuggets, the acidity will not be leached out by rain, I will add garden soil and perlite to get better drainage but I will see if the Duke cheers up since the soil amendment via soil acidifiers are not working.

  • @kyrad6543

I have some giant terra cotta pots like that. The only bummer is that if you leave them outside for the winter (at least here), they may eventually break. The big rolled edge broke completely off of one of mine this year. I was *very* sad. I think you are supposed to empty them of all the soil and turn upside-down for the winter and maybe cover them with burlap or something. Since mine are filled with perennials, I was never planning to empty mine. I am planning to switch to fiberglass pots as budget allows.

    Hi Laura
I bought 1 blueberry plant from Stark Brothers it said it was a self pollinating plant I did not know it was OK to plant 2 plants in pot 🤔 SO should I buy a second plant?? I have a 20” pot I’m using.
Also wanted to ask you QUESTION what do I use if PH level drops to low??????
Please let me know if you can. That would be great.
    Thank you always

    • @tinaknutsen
      @tinaknutsen 8 місяців тому

      Did you test your soil?
To raise the PH in the soil apply a material that contains some form of lime.
Lime/Limestone is used because it contains calcium, magnesium, or both, which are both alkaline components. If you have a wood burning stove take the wood ash and sprinkle around your plant. (Free method) or you can purchase Dolemite Lime pretty inexpensive. Most gardening centers have it.

In my garden I never use nets over anything because I always plant enough fruit trees and berries for me and the birds. I let my trees grow high and the birds eat the fruit I cant reach. I like to give back to nature because nature has given us so much. And with that Ive never gone without fruit or berries but the opposite. The more you give the more you receive.

Congrats on 500k! Hello from Killarney, south west Ireland. I have watched all your videos since I found you - most of them more than once. I just love listening to you and I learn new techniques all the time. Not sure if you used the phrase ‘breaking the root memory’ quite sometime ago. I would not have dreamt of playing with the roots but now I smile and think of Laura. I have been trying to grow all kinds of plants in containers -bulbs do very well, but the dreaded vine weevil really loves heuchera and no plant is really safe. I need help preparing a border, so fingers crossed.Rambling on, my first ever comment, so please forgive me. I enjoy reading comments from others. You both have built a super gardening community, great credit due to you. Thank you for sharing Benjamin with us, he is so cute. Lots of love Sile.

I planted 2 in a pot for one of my pots but preferred 1 per pot.

How was your blueberry harvest last year using your soil recipe with Espoma holly tone?

Can you give us an update on how your blueberries did and was the soil acid enough for them?

I found this information on blueberries so helpful! I have been waiting for three years for a berry from ours. I have a question, Laura will you add into the pot anything through the growing season or do you feel this is enough for the year?

Same question. As well as what do you add the following season?

Looking for great annuals & vegetables for your gardens? Check your local high school. Many have an FFA (Future Farmers of America) and will be having plant sales to support their activities. I'm going to to one on Saturday 🌷🌺🌼🌻
